can anyone give the suggestion how to set the number ranges 8 digit alphanumeric externally.

I'm beginner so I haven't defined such thing but isn't your proposal 'numeric'?
If it was alphanumeric the string should contain 'Z' I think. (e.g. from '0' to 'Z')

and maintain number ranges as 01 Internal

Hi All,
When I try to execute
SAP Easy Access screen - > Auto-ID Infrastructure -> Master data -> Number Ranges -> Number Range Administration
on the next web window when I select the object type BTI , it comes up with the error
Number range table not maintained for object BTI in customizing
No authorization for number range object type BTI and activity SHOW
I am using AIN 5.1 . Is this an authorization issue ?. If so which all roles I should give to the user? IF you have any idea about this please share some tips.

Error when creating interval for number range object

Hi,
I am trying to transport my BW stuff from QA to Production and I am getting the following error in the transport logs. The info objects are inactive in RSA1.
Start of the after-import method RS_IOBJ_AFTER_IMPORT for object type(s) IOBJ (Activation Mode)
Characteristic YRESD: Error when creating interval for number range object BIM0000396
Can some body advise me what's wrong? Is something need to be maintained in number ranges?
Also when I am checking the objects in RSA1, I am getting a message saying "source system WD110 does not exist", WD110 is our dev system. How can I change the source system after transport?

Best practice for Number range buffering in SAP BI for FI Cubes

Hello Experts,
I have a question regarding Number range buffering. What i have observed is if we use more number of background processes while loading data, it for sure creaets locks with NRIV table bcoz of more calls for bufffered numbers with multiple processes.
But there is a clause in SNRO while we buffer 'Main Memory' that it should not be used for Financial documents. I understand that this is for serial assignment of numbers for Documents and acoounts on the backend ECC, but does this even stand true for DIM ID's which we are buffering while loading data into a FI Cube?
I have looked up a SAP note 1398444, which talks about NRIVSHADOW and parallel buffering and different use case scenarios.
Which one of those should be used if I need to buffer my Dimension while loading a FI Cube in BI with maximun background processes?
Please help me understand the difference?

well the message is just like a warning to signify that incase you load more number of new records then your existing limit of buffer then you will have to increase accordingly if no then you can ignore
if you want to understand the reason it like this....
if there is not sufficent buffers space available and then process would be rollback and the existing numbers will get lost resulting gaps between the document numbers and for applications like finance this is not desirable .

Also if you are not sure you ask your basis team for Early watch alert report in their you can easily see whether number range buffering is really required or not, if yes then for which object/dimensions

Gautham , I'm not disagreeing with you as Im not sure abt this, but I do remember a requirement similar to this few years back .As long as the SO is not saved , I believe we can get this number back.
Its weekend today in this part of the world so I dont have SAP system to check but I will get back to you tomorrow hopefully with a solution.

OSS note for number ranges

I have question here.
I have an external number range assigned for specific group ofBusiness partners.
A0000001 - Z0000001.
I created a B with A0001 under this group. It accepts and saves it which should not happen and must throw an axception that the number does not fall in the Number range.
I was wondering whether there is any OSS number to implement it. Please let me know.

Hi,
This compare logic itself is applied to all programming world, not only ABAP I believe. The problem here is that it should check the length of the number assigned. But this also lead to problem, for example if the number range is defined as all letter combination: A - ZZZZZZZZZ, then it is not necessary to check the number length.
Thus what I think is that if the number range need to be improved, it might introduce a control that whether you need to restrict the length of the number range into a certain number.
But this also lead to another conflict, as this might be more specific requirement, customer can also fulfil it using customer codings, that is why we have introduced various interface for customer function modules. :P
The above is my personal comments regarding this issue. And if you do consider this should be a SAP bug, please feel free to post messages in service market place and let's see.

MIGO exit/ BADI for number range

Hi All,
When I am doing MIGO, then I want that after posting, a particular document no should be genrated which is wrt particular PO Number range.
For example, One PO No range is from, lets say, 1000 to 1999, then Doc no generated is, lets say 100 to 199,
and if PO no range is 2000 to 2999 then Doc no generated should be from 200 to 299.
So is there any BADI or user exit for the same or is there any other way of doing the same.
Please guide me.

The actual rqmt is I want to generate MIGO doc number wrt PO Document type..
As you are asking that there could be multiple GR's for one particular PO, so all these GR's will be having one particular number range, lets say from 1000000000 to 1999999999.
I have got one enhancement ES_SAPMM07M, where its selecting number range from table NRIV.
But the problem is I am not able to implemet this from se18 or se19.
Now could u plz tell me the suggestions...

Hi Nabil..
If you are referring to Material Document No Range for GR/GI then plant wise numbering is not in standard sap. You have to build a customized program to achieve it.
However you can consider GR/GI slip numbers (manual or automatic) settings to enable different numbering apart from Material Doc number if that meets your requirement. You can do this in OMC1

Reason behind error msg for number range when hiring through PA40

Hello Gurus,
I am getting the following error message when hiring thru PA40.
"No valid interval found(internal number assignment)"
Internal number range is already defined and the system is picking up the number from the defind range. When we press "return" button, the system accepts the input asks the user to save the data. The whole action is runnig fine except the error message.
Can you please explain why such error is comming?
