Suggestion for Tracks

Dragging one or more objects from a Software Instrument Track into a Real Instrument Track should convert that/those object/s. This can be useful if you want to make very precise cuts or edit the actual audio from a Software Instrument object instead of just being able to add/delete/resize/relocate notes.
This is possible through exporting a GarageBand project with a desired Software Instrument Track that you have created as a .mp3 file or such, and then importing that file into your actual project. The bottom line is that it wouldn't be so much trouble for the Apple Programmers to implement this idea into GarageBand, and would let us get things done even faster; which is a big part of why we love mac!
Lastly a question: If Apple were to do this, would it be included in a future iLife '08/GarageBand '08 update or would we have to wait for and purchase iLife 2010? What do you think anyways?

i'm not sure i understand what's not working for you. even though i work almost solely with audio, the truth is that editing a software region is FAR more accurate in every way. i can't think of any editing that can be done to an audio region that can't be done to a software region.
BTW, if you drag a software loop from the browser into a real track, it will convert, and there is a pref you can set to always force this conversion

I downloaded two movies from itunes at the same time (both free digital copies from a dvd) and when they finished downloading... they disappeared. I've not been able to re-download them or find them.. anywhere. Any suggestions for tracking them down?

If you downloaded them on your computer's iTunes then they should have gone into the Movies part of your iTunes library, if on a device (iPad, iPhone or iPod Touch) then into the Videos app - they haven't appeared there ?
If you downloaded on your PC and they don't show in the Movies section then you could try searching for them by name (or part of their name) via windows explorer and see if that finds them. Or if you downloaded them on a device and they aren't in the Videos app then have you got a film age rating set in Settings > General > Restrictions that is hiding them, and if not can you find them via the device's spotlight search screen (swipe your first homescreen to the right) ?

  • Suggestions for tracks i can use on a 3 min sports promo?

I am creating a 3 min sports promo for a client, they are willing to pay for the use of a well known pop or rock song from the last 10 years, i just need to find the right song and contact the publishers for using it, it will be used one time only at a big Sports dinner. It has to have lyrics that fit the images or a good instrumental, they will be positive sports related images and footage that i have shot thoughout the past year. Any suggestion for songs anyone?

    U2, Beautiful Day
    U2, Vertigo
    Foo Fighters, All My Life
    Eminem, Lose Yourself
Limp Bizkit, Rollin (depends on your audience's tolerance for obscenity)
    Foo Fighters, My Hero
My favorite is Beautiful Day for this kind of thing, because it will not offend, it is sophisticated (as pop songs go) and it stirs the right mix of nostalgia and suppressed joy to push a lot of emotional buttons.
The Foo Fighters tunes drive a little harder, and have a bit more transparent desperation in their vibe. Better for a pre-game "pump tape" than a banquet.
Eminem – it is a song about not choking. "You only get one shot…" Again better for a pump tape or a teaser or promotion.
You probably should not use Rollin'. I just threw it in there because cutting to it is just too much fun.
Vertigo is also here because it is great fun to cut to. If the audience is young, Vertigo might work better than Beautiful Day. Less sentimental.
    Good luck.

  • Suggestion for Exercise Motion Tracking App?

I have my favorite calorie (food) tracker (MyPlate) hooked into the new Health app.  I gather that the iOS 8 Health app, doesn't in itself monitor motion, attempt to interpret it as, say walking, climbing, rowing, rowing machine, etc.  I gather that it serves as a gathering point for health-related information, and, like calorie-intake, you need a separate App for interpreting motion and estimating calories burned.  I gather that the Apple Watch will help with that, but until that comes out...
Anybody have any favorite-app suggestions for interpreting motion and estimating calories burned?
The Nike+ app seems to be primarily about running, and presumably walking.  I'm guessing it won't be able to help with stationary exercisers.

    Interesting stuff:
Active Calories (in the Health app) says "No Data."
    When I tap the Active-Calories would-be graph:
    Show All Data:  No Data
Share Data:  With "My Plate" app.
Dietary Calories (calories eaten) clearly are getting forwarded from the "MyPlate" app.
    In the "MyPlate" app:
"Track my activity" is turned on.
Under exercise performed today, "iPhone Daily Steps," meaning that that app is clearly seeing my day-to-day activity, either by reading the accelerometers itself, or by getting it from Health, probably reading it itself.
When I enter the weight-lifting I did this morning into "MyPlate," the Health app doesn't see it, even though MyPlate is listed as a source of info for the Health app.  Ah, but I see that the Health app doesn't appear to have a switch to input exercise information (Carbohydrates, Dietary Calories, Dietary Cholesterol, Fiber, Protein, etc., but no switch for exercise performed.
Turning off "Track my activity" in the MyPlate app, on the Theory (guess anyway) that it's gobbling up the accelerometer data, and thus preventing the Health app from grabbing that information:  I did so and then took a quick walk around the building, and so far, still nothing shows up in the Health app.  I'll keep it off for a while, and see if anything accumulates in the Health app, but it looks like the MyPlate app is seeing my activity.

  • How to include suppliers quality claim form for tracking of claim.

    Dear all
My customer has come out with the following scenario:
To include suppliers quality claim form for tracking of claim.
Items received under Quality Inspection and after inspection will be transferred to Unrestricted used stock or blocked items.
Under blocked items, inventory department (warehouse) will raise the Complaint Form about Supplier and send to purchasing department. Purchasing department will then check and confirm whether there is a need to request Credit Note for Claim without return (it means the item will not be treated as Return Delivery or Return PO). if there is a need to create credit note for claim without return, how are we going to make the quantity in PO, GR and invoice matched?
On the contrary, claim with return or close suppliers complaint form as non-claim required. The request Credit Note will be sent to Account Department to issue Credit Note.
    Any suggestion?
Point will be given handsomely for any good suggestion.

    Closed. Thanks

  • Suggestion for a needed Walkman app improvement

    Dear Sirs,
Although I’ll sadly have to part from my Sony Z1 (for other issues reported on this forum and to Sony Xperia Care, namely the touchscreen issue), I would still like to leave a suggestion for the most underachieving app (imho) from a Sony Smartphone.
With the long tradition on audio excellence and the Walkman brand, I would suspect that it would be a strong point on a Sony Smartphone. Strangely enough, the Walkman app made me buy a third party app (PowerAmp) to get some basic functionality like I had on my old iPhone 3GS.
One of the most serious faults of the Walkman app is the lack of volume normalization between audio tracks. Although Sony does provide a workaround (which is nothing more than a dynamic range compressor), it doesn’t make any sense (imho) with today’s technology.
Replaygain (for instance) is a free (but very effective) way of normalizing volumes without degrading the sound quality. Many apps like PowerAmp have it, and even iTunes has a proprietary version of it built in on every device for many years now.
As I said before, this can be done with third-party apps and third-party media management software (like JRiver or the free Foobar), but by doing so, the user loses the integration provided by a unique manufacturer (Sony Media Go -> Sony Walkman).
I’m really just trying to help, as it gets harder to understand why Sony lacks on such elementary things audio-wise, when the same company has Walkmans supporting the highest definition audio formats available today.
I tend to relate Sony with high quality digital audio products, so it seems strange that this particular app is so rudimentary on these levels. The Walkman app is eye-candy, but it should also be “hear-candy”, which it isn’t.

You need to pass this on to the Sony delvelopers site as this is a user support forum

  • What do you guys suggest for playing guitar thru my Macbook Air? I use guitar pro software to learn tabs but I would like to be able to play along thru the computer. thanks

I used to play my guitar thru my PC using a line 6 Guitar port, Then I could play along with Guitar Pro tabs or MP3's. Now I have the Guitar Pro software on my Mac Air and I neeed an interface (which I can get at the Appple store- guitar plug to USB) but I neeed a suggestion for what software to run as an amp simulator, maybe line 6 is the best or maybe there are others I should check out. I know there are guitar "apps" for Ipads etc but this is a Mac. BTW I did not like the guitar sounds produced by Garageband. Thanks

I'm using GJABB with Logic Express 7.2.3 and have no problems.
However, I haven't started messing around with the modulation wheel yet which is pretty important in this libary since it controls volume. The sounds are great, though. I've just raised the mod wheel on each track to get the basic arrangement done, then I'll try the mod wheel for expression.
One thing about this library is that it pretty much forces you to do single horn lines since each patch is monophonic (like the real instrument). It does produce pretty nice results that way. I haven't tried upping the polyphony as I like the results this way.

  • Suggestions for how I can get the new purchases currently trapped on my iPod transferred to iTunes?

I recently bought an iPod touch and had no trouble loading all the existing music I have in iTunes to my new iPod.  The problem is that no matter what I try I cannot transfer purchases I made on the new iPod into iTunes.  Every time I try, "Transfer Purchases" is greyed out.  As a result the seven tracks that I bought on the iPod are trapped on the device.  I can't get them into iTunes.  Does anyone have any suggestions for how I can get the seven new purchases currently trapped on my iPod transferred to iTunes?
I've tried suggestions from multiple support forums, and nothing has worked.  Does anyone know why "Transfer Purchases" would be greyed out and how I can fix it so I can get the music purchases from the device to the computer.  Before anyone asks, this has not happened with any other Apple device I have owned, including my iPhone 4 8GB, iPod Touch 2nd Gen 32GB, iPad 1st Gen 64GB, and iPad 2 64GB.  Why is it suddenly happening now?
My new iPod is an iPod Touch 5th generation 64GB  using iOS 7.1.2, and iTunes is version 11.
I've never had this problem before.  It's driving me nuts.  Any help is very much appreciated.

    Does iTunes see the iPod?
Is the computer authorized for the account that purchased the items?

  • Suggestion for Apple or Third-party software company?

My first question is, where should I post the following suggestion for an improvement in FCP or for the creation of a third party software – suggested sites, blogs, etc.?
Next, my recommendation, and then my explanation of the reason why (including my personal semi-disaster):
Recommendation: That someone create a “Project Management” software for FCP (essentially a file management program that runs in the background) that organizes and tracks all of the files created during editing/post production – including the log/capture or log/transfer of the original footage, the audio files, stills, effects, etc, AND all of the files created by the program -- Live Type, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, and Color (especially color). The reason for this is that FCP has an incredibly complicated filing system that results in shots, files, documents, etc., being distributed all over the place – and not all known to the filmmaker or identified in the documentation. And, that condition can lead to disaster – see below.
Explanation: I just finished my first HD project using Studio 2, including sound track pro and color. After completing what I though was the absolute final version, I burned a one-off DVD and ran it by several filmmaker and non-film maker friends. They all spotted a small sound problem with one cut, so I went back to tweak it – and discovered that ALL of the footage had gone offline. I had nothing, nada, zilch. I had saved earlier sequences (rough cut, polished cut, etc.) and all the original footage appeared, but I had taken the final version into color for some corrections and adjustments, and ALL of those shots/files were missing.
After burning what I believed to be the final cut, I had cleaned up my hard disk, moving stuff to my backup hard disk, to my RAID array, and to the trash. So, after the initial shock and complete panic, several hours of searching all of these drives, led me to the file that contained the files that contained the color corrections – in my trash, which fortunately had not been emptied. I have no idea where the files were before or how they got into the trash – obviously they were not added to the scratch disk with all of the original footage.
Part of the difficulty of finding the shots was the discovery that color creates a file folder, that holds a set of file folders, each of which holds only one shot. In order to reconnect, I had to move the parent folder to the desktop, and then move all of the shots, one at a time. into a single folder, and then point reconnect to that folder. Problem solved.
However, now I face that question of archiving the project, moving all of the files off my hard drive so I can use the space for my next film, and I am terrified that I will leave something out, and not be able to recover the project in the future. Having a project management software that organizes and coordinates all of that would be a lifesaver – and well worth the purchase price.
Anyone who would like to explore this idea, please feel free to contact me – [email protected].

You've just learned a hard lesson. Put your current energy into your education, not finding a way to wallow in ignorance.
There already is a hardware device that will do what you want. It's called a "manual". In particular, the sections that relate to "where the program stores media". Pay very close attention to those sections and set up your computer so that all the scratch and storage pointers are aimed where you want. It's very simple to have them all go to one drive.
Then, when it's time to archive the project because you are starting a new project, just purchase another hard drive for the new project. They are absurdly inexpensive these days.
Remove the drive with your project to be archived from your computer (since you now know how to keep all the files organized, they will be all together) - and plug in a new disk for the next project.
If you want a backup, use carbon copy cloner to simply duplicate the drive (or simply just copy the relevant folders- you'll know which ones) to another drive (or get a RAID 1 device)
    good luck,

  • Need Mic suggestions for solo guitar video...

I have a Sony TRV-38 mini DV and need suggestions for an external mic. I want to video a solo guitar player sitting in a chair. Would I need to mic the guitar from a mic stand in front of him or would some sort of shotgun mic do the trick? Would buying a Beachtek unit be the best way to go, or is there a simpler/cheaper mic alternative that gives very good results. This is primarily just for good sounding archival footage.
    Thanks for any help.
      Mac OS X (10.4.3)

there are a couple of approaches... you can close mic, but if you are experimenting with your equipment and techniques, it is quite possible that you could get a very colored tone and not accurately depict the performace from a sonic standpoint.
something that is quick, easy, and relatively high performance at a budget is to use an M-S stereo shotgun mic. the left channel will be mono hypercardoid aimed right at the performer... with the mic mid range, not close mic'd. the right channel will be the "-S" component of the stereo signal, which is optional and can be decoded with an M-S stereo process in the edit process, or if for example, there was too much ambient noise, simply discard the track and just use the left / mono signal. (personally, i would probably just mount my audio technica M-S stereo mic on my rycote hotshoe adapter, and mic camera mounted... no stands or cables to deal with)
yes, the beachtek or similiar direct interface is the way to go, bypassing the Sony's poor gain stages (disable auto gain control, if possible).
IF sound quality is of the utmost importance, then the real correct way to do this would be to record with 2 mics in an X-Y stero mid field setup. expense, complexity, and possibility of getting something wrong are probably too high to do for something as critical as a 1 take live event if you don't have experience under your belt.

  • Sensible suggestions for ipod touch firmware

Not sure where to post but please note my suggestions for development of ipod touch firmware/native apps as follows:
1: on-the-go playlists. Please add the VERTCAL ALPHABETIC MENU when scrolling for tracks to add to the on-the-go playlist.
2: Mail, Notes & Contact apps should be available in LANDSCAPE mode as touch keyboard is by definition larger and more manageable.

  • Suggestions for smartband

I tried the smartband during a match of badminton and I start to wondering if all of my steps actually was recorded.
Does this work as some pedometers, that they don't count if you just take for ex. 5 steps. You have to do more steps to get them recorded?
If that is the cas I would suggest a sport mode that counts every step. I mean sometimes I don't take many steps during a point in badminton but I think they should be counted if you look at the complete workout for let's say an hour.
(I don't have the band on my racket-hand)
Another suggestion for the next version is GPS tracking in he smartband. Woulod be great just using the band while running, and then get the result when it syncs with the phone at home.
Is it possible to get the smartband to work with Runkeeper ein the near future?

I would say that it does eliminate steps when they are not full, or if there aren't several in rapid succession. To be honest though, if you want to track badminiton, you should probably forget about a glorified pedometer, and get a HR monitor. That is going to give you a far better idea of the activity and it's affect on your fitness. You aren't going to get any quantifiable results using one of these to track a badminiton match.
The GPS thing, just take your phone with you while you run. Lifelog tracks your movements via GPS, you'll get exactly what you are looking for, and an armband is pretty unintrusive (to put phone in).
Also, if you want to track badminiton with a tracker, you should probably look into a Moov, that seems to be the product you want.

  • Any Suggestions for Bus/Aux, Sub/Stems Organization, Naming?

    Hello Fellow Macers!
Using Logic Pro and learning step by step using Logic Pro 9 Manual. When it comes time to mix your first song (see pg 758: "Understanding The Basic Mixing Stages") under "Stage 1 Making Preparations" the manual suggests that you define some logical channel strip groups, grouping tracks, for example, roughly by type (drums, guitars, keyboards, eg.) in order to link their parameters so that you can adjust the whole group at once. My question is what is the best layout or organization to do this. Is it to select all your drums, create a group "Aux" Channel strip, name this group "Drums, and then assign all sends of this to  Bus 1?
If that makes sense, then does it also make sense so set up a standard convention for Bus assignments for those Auxillary Channel Stips that you create, like below....
    Bus 1 > Drums
    Bus 2 > Percussion
    Bus 3 > Bass
    Bus 4 > Guitar
    Bus 5 > Keyboards
    Bus 6 > Orchestral
    Bus 7 > Backup Vocals
    Bus 8 > Wet
    Bus 9 > Dry
etc, etc....while creating other Groups and assigning Buses for those...e.g.
    Bus 20 > Strings
    Bus 21 > Horns
While perhaps also using Buses 30-40 for grouping EFX, eg., ....
    Bus 30 > Tape Delay
    Bus 31 > Instrument Reverb
    Bus 32 > Snare Reverb
Also, would 20-40 above be considered Stems, or submixes, or
FYI, This article, together with going through the manual, got me thinking on this subject:
    http://logicblog.info/logic-pro-blog/2011/12/03/tips-on-organizing-and-bouncing- aux-buses-in-logic-pro.html
Also, any suggestions for a color convention to help organization, easy identification?
Hope this makes sense and I appologize in advance if it doesn't. Feel free to set me straight, ask for clarification, etc.
    Thanks!!

  • N97M Software for tracking

    Hey
    Just purchased the N97 M
Apart from a minor issue with the battery only lasting 6 hours (resolved issue, took phone to shop for a new battery)
I was looking for tracking, Theft help software for my phone.
So in the case of the phone being lost or stolen I can remotely lock the device and Trace the location of the device.
I have noticed several on the Ovi Store. I would like to ask peoples preference and why?
Also any other apps you feel I should obtain, please let me know what and why.

Many antivirus softwares detect these types of threats. I would honestly suggest backing up your data and doing a full reformat reinstalling your operating system.

  • Suggestions for helping us respond to your ?s

In an effort to help us address your questions more efficiently, we'd like to appeal to our audience and make some suggestions for the content and format of the topics, and the type of information we need in the body of the message itself.
For the content of the message, please try to include the following:
    1. Version of JDeveloper you are using.
    2. Type and Version of the server (if any). For example, Oracle 8i 8.1.6, Oracle Lite 8.1.6, OAS 4.0.8.2, Apache 2.0, etc.
    3. If the problem is on the client side, what kind of client are you using (JSP, DAC applet, Java application, Servlet, etc.)
    4. If you're getting an error, what is the error (stack trace is helpful), and what steps did you take that lead to the error. Information from the trace files for the database is helpful if the problem is with accessing an EJB/CORBA object on an 8i server.
    5. Which version of the JDK are you using (both client and server if applicable).
    6. If the problem is related to a connection please include what driver (thin, OCI) and connection type (named host, TNS, etc.) as well as details about the server you are trying to connect to.
The more detail and specifics you can give us, the better we are able to track down the source of the problem.

    Chris,
Like I said, Im relatively new to PhotoShop and PS forum. I have researched the PS manual, PS help topics and this forum. I am not an individual that would ask a question of hard-working volunteers about a subject that I have not already researched. And yes, I know and understand what FAQs are and how they are generally presented on the web.
Huh? The FAQ section is for administrators to add things to, not users. If you have a question, you ask in the main forum. If many people ask the same question, then the administrators add an entry to the FAQ.
Okay if this is true, how was I able to post a message? I wasnt aware that I couldnt post a FAQ suggestion to the FAQ suggestion Forum? Hmm, maybe I missed the
    small print on that one.
Look ... I do NOT want to create any hostility with you. You have given me some answers and I appreciate your comments. I will go back and "wade through" all of the forums to look for basic or frequent problems that may answer some frequent questions.
    Cheers!
