Suggestion for voltage reuirement for p45 platinum

alright now that i have added information about my system in signature could you suggest me the right voltage setting to set for my motherboard to make my cpu go at default since i dont want to overclock now . just want to use it normally for gaming and other activities but even at entering at default mode it locks up and hangs making it impossible for me to use.
i tired only playing with the memory voltage and all the settings i inputed so far failed. if any of you geniuses out ther can help me figure out the right voltage setting for my corsair ram id be greatful. plus let me know what other setting should be chnaged in the cell menu of the bios and what about the jumper. see i have tried all of your suggestion in the other post and thread but sadly none of them WORKED! so plese help me out here ok. also note here gaming is my number one priority and all the time it hangs when im playing even when the os is idle and stable for few minutes after some time it hangs. what id like to do is also pin point the culprict responsible for hanging.

Sudeep, i hope you do not get offended by my reply. MSI who manufacture your mobo spend fortune in trying to see which memories are most suitable for the mob they have made, and once they have tested certain memories they put the result of test in mob manual. i bet your corsair memory is not among those memories recommended by MSI.
your prob lies with your memory and it is not easy for us to recommend you a set of setting for your mobo from top our head. most of us who have learnt one or two lesson from overclocked memory, distance ourselves from such memories unless one is looking for headache. if you love your mobo and want to enjoy it then my best advice to you is that you put up those memory up for sale on ebay or keep for future use and buy none overclocked memory or any of those recommended by MSI in your mobo manual.
you can try default setting in your bios [it is on the main page of your bios, top right hand side] click yes then save and exit that will make your memory to run at 800 at 1.8volt. good luck

Memory Upgrade for P45 Platinum

My P45 Platinum recently failed in its access to memory - so I believe something in the 3 yr old North Bridge gave. The system fails to boot to Windows now, or to any of my emergency repair disks. I isolated the problem to my memory. When I test the memory (see signature below) using a boot CD with Windows MemTest, it only fails in the Stride-6 test. Yet when I test the same memory sticks in my other P45 Platinum system (w/ E8400), it passes all tests.
No problem. I have a couple of spare P45 Platinum boards.
As I rebuild the system, I was wondering if OC'ing this long at 3.8GHz with this memory was taking a toll on the North Bridge. Anyway, I'm considering upgrading the rebuild's memory from the sticks in my signature to some high-performance G.SKILL's - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231246
Curious what the community thought, as I had thought the original sticks were of decent quality, but have always had problems getting the board to acknowledge their true timings...

Personally I would stick with the Crucials. I have OCZ on mine and have tested both at 800 and 1066 and the gain was insignificant. The additional voltage needed and potential instabilities just didn't justify it. Set the DRAM ratio at 1:1
I use the beta BIOS 1.7b10 which allows me FSB up to 465 and beyond on my Q9550 and that then pushes my mem to 900 or more in any case. Just increased the DRAM V to 1,9V and thats it. 5.5.5.15
Stick with the Crucials.

Hi there. Just for your info, I have the Q9550 (E0) running succesfully on the P45 Platinum. Initially I had to update the Bios to v1.6 as the board had shipped with v1.1 which had no quad support. Then I had memory issues which were sorted by OZC who replaced it. I removed the jumpers on the board so the systems posts at 400MHz. I now leave everything else on Auto and the system is as stable as a rock at 3,4GHz clock (standard boot now without any further overclock in the BIOS). Far Cry2 with all graphics maxed out pushes my cores between 50 and 60 deg. (MSI 9800GTX+ card)
I run my 1066 mem at 800 5.5.5.15. I have run it at the overclocked 1066 but the memory benchmark increase, or rather the lack thereof, does not justify infrequent instabilities.
This information is just to address your concern of the 2.66 clock speed. Jack t.N will remember my perceived initial lack of confidence in the board, and all due to memory issues as it turned out. (Once again thanks to Jack)
Now I can only report back that the system has been rock solid over the last 2 months at the 3,4GHz. I don't foresee any problems with a quad core with BIOS v1.6

Question on P45 Platinum bios setting for "Adjust PCI Frequency (MHz)"

8BG (2x4 slots) Cosair TWIN2X4096-8500C5D PC2-8500 1066MHz
PowerColor 1GB ATI HD 3670 Video card
System runs almost fine at the default setting. As it boot to blank screen a few times. Hard reset to boot into system fine. Once a while, system just froze and need hard reboot. But seem to stable enough (temperature around 26C)
I wanted to overclock to 3GHz. But as I just increased FSB from 333 to 340, the system will not boot or it will boot and then locked up after logon to window. I left everything at auto. Do I need to set the PCI clock? It is default at auto.

Well, the fact that all memory slots are populated makes the matter a little more complicated, but the main problem is elsewhere: The Intel P45 Chipset natively only supports DDR2-667 and DDR2-800 modules. In addition to that, your memory modules are not "real" DDR2-1066 modules, but DDR2-800 memory sticks with a permission to overclock and overvolt them to DDR2-1066 @~2.1V.

- Enhance Setting (Try all settings here: "Enabled", "Disabled" and "Auto")
- DRAM Voltage = 2.1V

- Spread Spectrum = Disabled
Usually, the reduction of the DDR Reference Voltages compensates stability problems that are related to overclocking/overvolting the memory to DDR2-1066 on this board. There is no guarantee that it will work for you, but you may as well give it shot.

You don't wanna use MSI Dual Core Center for temperature monitoring. The tool is unable to read/calculate the Core Temperatures of your processor which are based digitial sensors implemented in each processor core. The data these sensors collect is stored in specific CPU registers that can be accessed by tools like Core Temp, Real Temp, Everest Ultimate and Speedfan (there are more tools of course). The "CPU Temperature" value shown in BIOS and by MSI Dual Core Center are based on the readings of an analog sensor of unknown location. It is uncertain, what this value actually refers to and it is also not very reliable.

P45 Platinum IEEE1394 drivers for Win7 x64

I just reinstalled my PC with P45 Platinum mainboard and everything installs fine with the drivers from the MSI website, however there is no driver for IEEE1394 controller there.
I installed Win7 x64 now, before I installed WinXP and at the time of that installation it installed fine.
I am not using the IEEE1394 controller at the moment but there is a exclamation point in the device manager I want to get rid of.
Can anyone point me to the driver, thnx.

In windows 7 there's no Firewire driver needed it should automatically install it as already integrated. Is it already installed and exclamation mark on it like it isn't working correctly or unknown device?

P45 Platinum, Need help in enabling vt-x for virtualization

Hi,
I have the following system.
Intel Q9550 Core 2 Quad @ 2.83Ghz, with a MSI P45 Platinum board, 8GB DDR2 800 Mhz Memory. I need to have the vt-x enabled in the bios and i dont see that option anywhere in AMI bios screens. I need this as i am trying to set up Microsoft Hyper-V, and this cannot be done unless this feature set is enabled on the mother board.
I dont know whether flashing my BIOS will help in this case, and if yes kindly help me in getting the right BIOS update.
Let me know if any other details are needed.

I have read alot about vt-x now, and I also have tried every tip to enable it permanently, and I have also tried the link that you have posted. But it didn't work for me.
The sleep and wakeup thingy works for me, but I consider it not as solution because it's only for programs started after the wakeup. vt-x would greatly enhance bootup time when enabled.
It's very disppointing by Apple, that they don't comment on this or try to fix it, but then again, this is the Apple way.

This is a known v1.4 BIOS Bug. It was fixed in BIOS v1.5b1 and in all BETA Releases that followed. If you don't want to flash a BETA Release, you need to wait for the Release of the official/final v1.5 version.

P45 platinum voltage problem

I am unable to set vcore voltage any higher than it is in bios. Right now it is 1.20v. When i raise it in cell menu and reboot it stays the same. though cell menu still shows the voltage i need. I guess it happens not only with vcore, but with any voltage i try to change. I am just checking vcore with monitoring programs and it is always 1.20v. Is there any safety switch for voltages or what am i missing here? I can change any voltage in dual core center without any problem, but bios won't let me change them.
My system specs:
msi P45 platinum 1.0 / bios 1.4
intel e8600
g.skill 2x2gb 800mhz ddr2
vista ultimate

The problem is solved. I had to change GTL REF voltage of the cpu from "auto" to some other in order for CPU voltage to go above 1.208v. With the GTL REF cpu voltage set to "auto" it was just stuck at the 1.208v and won't go up no matter what amount you set. So the problem is solved. Thanks.

P45 Platinum Voltage Readings in Speedfan & HWMonitor

I am having some problems reading the voltages (+12v, +5v, etc..) of my P45 Platinum motherboard in Speedfan and HWMonitor.
Attached are some screenshots.

His voltage readings are also around the same range.
Is this due to a problem with our motherboard or the reading of voltages by speedfan/hwmonitor?
Could those who have the P45 Platinum do a test and see whether they get the same strange readings from the voltages too?

I knew those were ridiculous readings. The readings in BIOS are perfect. If those tools are bad, are there any that currently read the voltages correctly on the P45 Platinum? Besides MSI's own DualCore Center of course. Being able to monitor voltages in Windows without a multimeter sticking out of the casing would be nice.
And does anyone know what the other voltages/temperature sensors are reading? Thanks again.

There will not be any updates /deletes on the table.
I have created a partitioned table with same struture and i am inserting the records from my original table to this partitioned table where i will maintain data for 6 months.
After loading the data from original table to archived table i will truncating the original table.
If my original table is partitioned then what about the restoring of the data??? how will restore the data of last month???

The fact that you can receive means you have a valid e mail address, and have established the connection to the incoming server, so all of that works. Since the send does not work, that means your outgoing server is rejecting whatever settings you used formthe outgoing set up. Try them again.
Google your particular isp, and ipad and many times you will find the exact settings needed for your isp. Or tell us here, and soneone else may be on the same isp. Some mail services need you to change a port, or have a unique name for the outgoing server.

garageband : create & edit audio. add 1400x1400 image.
share to itunes.
drag file to desktop.
upload .m4a file to google drive.
create a link post in wordpress using "podcast" tag & create "podcast" category.
click on "entries rss" in wordpress, which takes me to the rss subscribe page (which is basically just my wordpress address with "/feed" at the end.
i copy this url.
go to itunes store > then "submit a podcast"
itunes gives me the error message "we had difficulty downloading episodes from your feed."
when i try to subscribe to my podcast in itunes, it does, but gives me no episodes available.
i went back into wordpress and changed settings/ reading settings to : "full text" from "summary"
still the same error message.
i added a feedburner step after wordpress but got the same errors. i don't think i should have to add feedburner.
wordpress seems to be encapsulating the rss, what am i doing wrong?
this so much easier when you could go directly from garage band to iweb to mobileme; i miss those apple days (also idisk).

How do I make suggestions for new features or improvements in LR?
The stacking function, IMO, needs to be improved. The time between shots does not take into account the length of exposure. For example if my exposure is 5 seconds the stacking exposure will not add the two exposures together in the time setting < 4 seconds.
Ideally I would like to see an HDR stacking function, looks at time between exposures (taking into account the length of exposure) and changes in exposure.
ideally there would be similar options for pans and focus stacking.

Drive setup suggestion for multiple users editing simultaneously?

At work here, a city college, not a professional company or broadcast studio, so resources are limited, we often have three people editing HDV content simultaneously in Final Cut Pro.
Keeping the content on our multiple backup servers, there's simply too much network traffic to do this smoothly.
Instead of keeping projects locally spread across multiple machines, I would like one centralized place for everything, for the Macs to access directly over gigabit or something else.
So, what kind of setup do you guys suggest for this?
The machines here are two quad-core G5s (no RAID or fiber-channel right now), and a Core2Duo iMac, F400 only.
Again, it'd need to be able to handle three HDV projects going on simultaneously without skipping due to having to seek back and forth all over the drive.

Yes, an XSan system would perfectly fit the bill for what you want to do, but an XSAN is not a cheap solution. When it is all said and done, it will cost you tens of thousands of dollars.
The best, cheap solution would be to use Firewire drives. I would not duplicate a project onto three drives, because you will then always be trying to figure out which version is the most current. Instead, keep all of your project, capture scratch and render files on the firewire drives. Then move the drive to whichever computer you want to do the editing on.
Properly log & capture all your footage, then archive all your project files, because Firewire hard drives will fail over time, loosing all the info on the discs. I did say this was the cheap solution. "Cheap" does have its costs…

Suggestions for setting up external storage for video editing please?

I am just starting up as a one-man video-editing business, using a 24 inch iMac running Snow Leopard, with Final Cut Studio. I have realised I'll need an external hard drive for HD footage, and I also need to get some back-up solution in place. Looking for speedy i/o, I would like to connect via the ethernet port (if only eSata was included in the iMac, eh!)
I've been planning to get a Drobo, but looking around the forums I see that people say it's too slow for using as a working drive to keep all my source footage, so I've been looking at the G-tech 4 Tb, as it says it is designed for media-content production. Does anyone know if I could use two of the drives for working from and two as back up? Or would it be better to keep back-up entirely seperate, and get a Drobo for that for the G-tech to back up to?
But I am also wondering whether a Mac Mini could be a worthwhile addition to this set up? I find myself sitting around waiting for rendering to complete on clips in my timeline (not to mention exporting to Quicktime conversion!), and I wondered if I put a Mac mini with Xserve installed (Apple store offers this with two 500gb hard drives inside), maybe I could farm the rendering out to the mini while I get on with editing on my iMac? That would require two installations of FCP, which I thought was allowed, but just today in a forum I saw that one would have to be a laptop... anyone have any suggestions for getting rendering done without stopping FCP from doing other things simultaneously?
Also I don't know if that arrangement is even feasible... I see all these things like Xsan and Artbox... as a one workstation editing suite, does FCP handle all the dataflows for external working drive and external back ups okay without having to introduce more controllers?
And can anyone explain to me how I could set up an ethernet connection to an external hard drive, or does that require the extra controllers mentioned above? I've seen it said that you can do it via ethernet, but haven't seen how you can actually go about doing it.

as NLEdit said, there will be loads of answers to this.
IMO i'd avoid drobo like the plague. G tech drives have served me incredibly well working on a huge variety of broadcast projects (just over the water from you in Bristol), I've had no probs with FW800 when using DVCproHD, pro res is ok, sometimes a little slow with multiple layers and of course it eats up storage space. so I'd go for 2 4tb drives, keep the backup one in a different location.
one tip that has saved me countless times is to format them as follows:-
mac os extended (not journalled)
create 2 partitions
partition 1 - make this small (1gig) and call it "drive a - do not use"
partition 2 - the rest of available storage and call "drive a"
this is because the boot sector of the drive is within the first partition and with this method if it goes down it can be re erased without losing all your footage.
If you call your backup drive the exact same name and have the exact same folder structure, you will not have to relink if you get a problem.
Ignore getting a mac mini for rendering, won't help at all in FCP. instead I would make every attempt you can at buying a mac pro rather than an imac. much more expansion/speed possibilities and a more robust solution.
