[Suggestion] Gaming Edition

I have a huge suggestion.....  Windows has attracted some of the most widespread users to date ranging from students to government business users.  What I have noticed is a new trend of users that are moving in a new direction with Windows by using
custom api's, user interfaces, and hardware capabilities.  I'm talking about the GAMING COMMUNITY!!!  We have watched DirectX emerge and blossom over the years.  Now AMD has developed Mantle, NVidia develops their custom version of DirectX that
delivers high performance improvements, and we have the HSA Working Group, delivering new unified capabilities by allowing the motherboard to interact with the APU and RAM.  Not to count out Intel, but we now have XMP and AMP overclocking for motherboards.
We are not just playing crossword puzzles, but today's culture is playing Steam games like NBA 2K15, Ultra Street Fighter 4, Darksiders 2, and new PC games that are rivaling if not are visually better than consoles.  This new culture of gaming are
now using 144 hertz monitors to run the most solid games.  What I see is a ton of "tweaks" done to the operating system that just disables settings, services, and applications, which might cause some instability.  Why not create an edition
of Windows that allows the gaming community to take full advantage of DirectX without disabling or tweaking.  An image that does not use Virtual Machines, additional plugins, enterprise services, or added domain capabilities.  These capabilities
could reduce RAM at the consumer level and would allow the hardware developers to take full advantage of Windows.  Just a suggestion.
Erick

Yes of course.  I think the only reason I halted in this area is because I see that the Technical Preview has the DirectX 11 platform, so Windows 8.1 really accelerates in this area today.  Currently I had video driver issues (not being able to
install on AMD), so I switched to an NVIDIA GPU and will resume testing soon.  This is because I have to wait for AMD.
What my suggestion meant is that I know Microsoft worked really hard on the next version of DirectX.  Another culture specific item is the use of consoles and Steam clients.  After logging in, most people would like to just start playing the games,
not having to check email, Facebook, or something web facing.  My suggestion is a version or option/mode of Windows that allows for drivers, patches, and security updates without the use of the main UI.  A user can either have a custom UI or a full
screen Microsoft app that will run after logging in while retaining the ability to log off.  I have done this on previous versions of Windows and more system RAM becomes available.  Maybe an option for a Game Mode within Windows that allows most
resources to focus on the games being played.
I will say this so far, I like the combination of the live tiles and the start menu, which eliminates the confusion.  I still see some Windows 8.1 in there (right-click on the Start button to shut it down), but I definitely like it.

I downloaded a job application with Adobe.  What is your suggestion on editing this?  What is the best way or best program?  Thanks!

Simply, export the data from this esy share system to standard formats like jpeg, making sure to preserve all metadata on the way. How to do that? YOu'll need to post on a Kodak forum I'm afraid.
Then copy the files to the Mac and import them.

  • Goldenvs. Gaming Edition

About to buy a GTX 970 for my son's new PC build (Christmas and graduation gift).
I am strongly leaning towards MSI vs. Asus, EVGA or Zotac due to what I read about the build quality and cooling. Do I need Golden edition due to better backplate and copper and factory OC? Or will I be just as happy without the backplate and regular pipes and factory OC? I did some OC 5-10 years ago on CPU and memory, so I am not totally unfamiliar with how to do it.
And, if in a year he decides to go SLI will the Golden Edition still be in production? I realize I can SLI a Gaming GTX 970 with it but then I lose the factory OC and backplate on the second card so why wouldn't I just get the gaming version now?  About $50-60 difference in price

Personally I would wait until January/February (yes I did read it's for Christmas etc). Therefore after new year it's very likely, in most places, that prices will drop, especially if nvidia would announce new GPU chip like 980Ti or 990.
Golden Edition does look nicer just because it has this backplate+gold instead of red (red is standard for MSI Gaming, so that's why gold looks so "special"). But apart from that, performance is exactly the same, and I would simply go for Gaming edition one. Also once warranty goes out (3 years I believe?) you can always paint it your way
You could pre-order either one on retailer's website, and just make sure they have them in stock before Christmas (usually says like "Re-Stocked in 2 weeks or on 20th December") so it's not late Christmas present

  • Hauppauge 1445 HD-PVR Gaming Edition High Definition Personal Video Recorder

    Hi,
I recently just purchases an HD-PVR Gaming Edition from Best Buy so that I can record gameplay from my Xbox 360 and make videos with them. I tested it out at home and it works fine but I wasn't too happy with the quality and the fact that I had some issues with the software that come with it. For others it works fine but it didn't with me. I wanted to know whether or not I am able to return this product to best buy and get a refund so that I can buy another capture device. The product is brand new and all the cables are in mint condition. The software CD is in mint condition as well as the capture device itself. I have only recorded with it twice (2 hours worth of footage). Please let me know of my options!
    Andrew A.

Put everything back in it and pack it up how you found it. Don't tape it up cause they will have to inspect it befpre giving you your refund. Take Your recepit, your card(If used) and Goverment Issued ID.
You have 30 Days or 60 if Premier Silver Member from purchase date.

  • MSI GTX 660 gaming edition

Hi just a quick question, I overclocked my MSI GeForce GTX 660 Gaming Edition slightly from 1180mhz to 1203mhz and left the memory clock at 3005mb which is the same as MSI app OC setting that came with the card. (Overclock is so minor i just wanted to test)
Now for some reason im getting kernel driver error 331 stopped responding and has recovered which I never had before I uped the card a tiny bit and not sure if this is linked to adding more MHZ to the core clock or not
Also i noticed when the Kernal error showed MSI afterburner showed me my cards power usage hit 36,405,567 % .........
    current setting of GPU
    Core clock 1202MHz
    Memory clock 3005MHz
Full load temp 45c-59c depending on what game
Power supply Corsair 600w gaming edition
Any help finding what caused the huge power % would help
Also is adding few more MHz onto the clock speed the cause
extra info ..... Case being cool by 3 Corsair 120mm fans so 100% not over heating

    Don't overclock it like that.
Overclock it by using Kepler BIOS Tweaker v1.25 and nvflasher in combination and by modding the bios of the card. BUT do some reading on it before you go on with it. There are risks involved as in every kind of bios flashing. However, I have flashed my cards' BIOS so many times (like more than 30 times each lol, a bit too much yes) until I found stable settings yet I haven't seen any issues other than once where I tried to flash the TOP version's BIOS into my card and that way I had to boot using the integrated graphics card to log in to windows and reflash back to card's own modded-bios version.
OCing via card's BIOS will give you more control over your overclock.
When you increase the card's core clock the boost clock automatically increases as well and sometimes to a clock that the card cannot carry. I know this because I was OCing using Asus gpu tweak or afterburner before and I was getting the same error from even little overclocks.
I then used Kepler Bios tweaker and set the Max Boost Clock to a safe value after much testing.
Most of the time this value is at least as high as 1202Mhz. Msi is usually better in this department and gives more headroom but I don't see any need to go beyond 1202Mhz to be honest.
If you cannot get there with default voltage you can up the voltage a bit until it is stable.
I have 2 of these cards but Asus DCU2 versions in my mini atx motherboard setup where they sit like glued together. Yet still with 1.212 voltage running through the Bios modded one it does not get hotter than 70-71C. Without the voltage it is maybe 1 degree lower. I recently lowered my OC to 1136.6 max boost clocks and in games and heavy apps they run @1137 clocks both. I lowered it because it gave me smoother experience in BF4.

  • MSI R9 270X Hawk vs Gaming Edition IDLE FAN SPEED

    Hello,
Just wondering, I've seen in a review that the Hawk can achieve in idle a 700 rpm.
I'd like to ask if this 700 rpm in idle is true and what percentage? (18% maybe?)
And what about the Gaming Edition, what percentage can achieve in idle and what rpm?

  • MSI GTX 980 Gaming Edition 4G Throttling? Faulty Bios? Aggresive Temp limit?

Hey everyone, I've been trying to find a thread regarding the issue or shall i say experience i am having with the MSI 980 so i thought ill start a thread.
I received my 980 yesterday, as you may know the fans don't spool up until the card reaches 61c. I've noticed when the temp reaches 62c my card starts downclocking the core by 16mhz and voltage by 25. I do not understand why if this is a temp limit why is it at 61c when the fans actually only spool up then? Why is it not at 81c like the 970 G1 Gaming i had (never experienced anything like this with it and it boosted 1392mhz out of the box) Is the bios faulty?
I started to increase the Power Limit to 122 and prioritized the temp (91) and that did not help. Sometimes it's averaging at 80 90 and sometimes it actually reaches 105 etc but i have not seen it go any higher than 110. The power limit has reached 110 but this was at 59c but the core and voltage was still at stock. (1342mhz core 1.225v)
As this did not help I increased the voltage by +7 and then the core went back to 1342mhz and voltage back to 1.225 (Goes to 1.200 when it throttles). at 65c it drops back again. So i increased the voltage again to +13, then at 68 69c it drops again. then at +20 the core and voltage is sustained at 1342mhz and voltage 1.225.
Does anyone know why this is happening? My MSi 970 Gaming Edition did the same thing but my Gigabyte 970 Gaming G1 did not do that. I am considering on buying the 980 G1 instead as i think they have the temp limit to 81c so if it reaches such temp it throttles to bring the temp down. Some people have experienced this on the G1 only a few as far as i'm aware.
Just to mention I can still overclock to 1535 when it throttles
Any thoughts? RMA? try the G1 as i never experienced it with that ?

Done that, when the power limit reaches 120 it throttles which is normal. As soon as i enter the game the usage is 90+% and then the core and voltage are at 1342mhz and v 1.225 as soon as it reaches 62-63c it drops the core to 1329mhz and v to 1.200. What ever i do it is stuck at that level unless i increase my voltage by +20 and then it goes to 1.225v. Then it does not throttle. What could this be? If it really is in the BIOS as MSI inteded, then why when i use third party apps to increase the power why doesn't it still force it to throttle. It seems like there is something else wrong to me.

  • Any suggestions for editing Music Videos with Multiclip?

Hi there. I have been reading about the new multiclip feature in FCPHD5. Sounds as if it would be perfect for editing a performance music video with multiple run throughs. In fact it almost seems too good to be true. I was writing to ask if anyone has tried this and what problems they encoutnrered or what workflow they could recommend. I haven't used multiclip before (or editied many music videos either) and would appreciate any suggestions.
This is my idea so far.
capture offlineRT the whole tape, make subclips with an angle setting of each take. Then edit the multiclip in a timeline which includes the song as an audio track. I thought I would synch with inpoints manually set to the beginning of the songs first riff in playback (as there was no clapper on set that day, curse them)
I have questions about onlining as well and how to make it a less tormenting nerve racking experience. Maybe its just me but the thought of trashing all the media, duplicating projects and recapturing makes me break out in a cold sweat. But I'll deal with that later.
Thanks for your thoughts, observations, suggestions.
    Have a merry Christmas
    Sincerely
    Peter Stenhouse

The plan was to sync up the mixed PT audio to the video track. However the club screwed up the recording and I was left with using the audio from one of the tripod mounted cameras that I placed a stereo mike on.< </div>
    General advice for live performances:
    1. Depending on a computer to make the only recording is a silly idea. Use tape or a minidisk. Take a line feed off the main board and record it on at least one of the cameras.
    2. There is nothing that will substitute for missing timecode better than a good countdown. Insist the band develop a creative visual and aural timing cue that all cameras and mics can see.
    3. The most important part of shooting a performance or a lipsync gig for mulitcamera assembly is preproduction. The bugs, glitches and gotchas are all well known and thoroughly documented on thousands of band blogs.
    4. There is no excuse to go into a location shoot unprepared and carrying a solid backup plan for all of the stuff that will go wrong.
    5. A full, all-camera, all-personnel rehearsal is a good idea.
    6. The band's lighting guy knows nothing about video. Give him some help or give him the day off.

  • Quad Config Suggestions for Editing Machine

EDIT: OOPS - Meant to post this in FCP Forum, sorry!
    Hi All,
Getting ready to order a Quad G5. Need some suggestions.
Regarding the three video card options... I will be editing (up to) 8- or 10-bit uncompressed video, doing some light titling and motion graphics, and DVD authoring.
What advantages (if any) does the QUADRO card provide in my situation? Would the mid level (7800 I think) card be sufficient? I don't plan on doing much heavy duty work with Motion, and I believe that FCP doesn't take advantage of advanced video cards for processing, so what is the advantage of the significantly higher priced card?
Also - what is suggested re: Hard Drives? Will internal and external SATA drives provide the throughput I need to capture and playback very high quality video (configged as a RAID I imagine)? As I mentioned, we'll be doing HDV as well as 8 or 10 bit uncompressed (although capturing lower res for offline editing)..
    Thanks!!
    Jason

Quad, 4.5 GB or more RAM, Decklink video card from BlackMagic Design, a X-Raid or a Sonnet 8 channel SATA PCI card and a external SATA enclosure like the MiniG.
HDforIndies.com is a good site to visit and learn more.
I'm not into video quite on this level, but the info should help.

  • GTX 780 Gaming Edition, PCB custom or not?

Ok so i was planing to buy this gpu, but then i saw 3 reviews and all showed stock pcb, no military class pwm, mosfets, caps etc.. Why so?
Now i saw a shop that could have proper pics with custom pcb., but then again it looked like it was copied from MSI GTX780 GE/OC page

its standard/reference PCB with special components on it [Solid CAPs,New SFC,Hi-c CAP]
Not according to Altesc.com and guru3d back picture (right stock 780gtx) with  missing 2 PWM just like by stock 780gtx..

special components are there,[military class 4] but visually they looks near the same as reference card,

btw I know how custom SFC, mosfet looks like - I own MSI 570GTX TFIII Power Edition OC
    Quote
else the PCB is reference and there is no special PWM on it
Yes that's exactly what this is, at least by all 3 reviews..
So why promote it if its not there, i guess MSI was in a hurry and didnt sent full custom? Will retail be custom like on MSI page or not?
Well im thinking of buying it soon and custom pcb PWM plays a big part for me. More then cooling.
