Suggestion I made to Apple on Cut and Paste

I posted the following suggestion to the feedback web page on cutting and pasting with an iPhone:
You have undoubtably heard many requests for cut and paste. It seems to me based upon my two decades of software experience is that the text-based paradigm found in the emacs editor works works better than a mouse-based one. (As you stated in your developer guidelines a finger does not equal a mouse.) I suggest that double-tapping an editable region enters "edit mode" (and exits it also). Edit mode has four buttons. "Set mark", "cut", "copy", and "paste". "Set mark" sets a mark point at the current cursor location and creates a selection region between the mark point and the current cursor location. Cut, copy, and paste work in their traditional fashion of working with the OS X cut buffer.

  • Apple Mail Cut and Paste Problem

When I cut and past in Apple Mail font changes to smaller size.  Any suggestions?

As you know, type sizes are uniform - unless you use cut-and-paste. The resulting text will sometimes be smaller, larger, or different than the type-style you began with.
Personally, I'd ignore it. But if you want to fix the font size, you can alter it in the Format Bar on the top of the Mail program. This allows you to change the type, size, and even alter special characters. To make the text uniform, highlight the text you want to alter, open the Format Bar, and change the settings.

  • I cut and pasted a description from the Internet. It posted as a link in iPhoto. It seems to have made a global change--all my descriptions are now blue, underlined, and Times Roman 12 rather than Arial white. How can I get this back to the default?

    Greetings,
I've never seen this issue, and I handle many iPads, of all versions. WiFi issues are generally local to the WiFi router - they are not all of the same quality, range, immunity to interference, etc. You have distance, building construction, and the biggie - interference.
At home, I use Apple routers, and have no issues with any of my WiFi enabled devices, computers, mobile devices, etc - even the lowly PeeCees. I have locations where I have Juniper Networks, as well as Aruba, and a few Netgears - all of them work as they should.
The cheaper routers, Linksys, D-Link, Seimens home units, and many other no name devices have caused issues of various kinds, and even connectivity.
I have no idea what Starbucks uses, but I always have a good connection, and I go there nearly every morning and get some work done, as well as play.
You could try changing channels, 2.4 to 5 Gigs, changing locations of the router. I have had to do all of these at one time or another over the many years that I have been a Network Engineer.
    Good Luck - Cheers,
    M.

  • I can't cut and paste any images into apple mail

I have had my MacBook Pro for over three years now, without much trouble, but recently I've been unable to send images that I have cut and pasted into Apple mail. I can attach an image that I have saved in my photos and it will send but I can not send an image that I have cut and pasted from the internet.
I am using a gmail pop account and firefox as my primary browser. It took me a few times to figure this out as the image appears to be attached in my mail, but is removed when I send, such that if I have text and an image in an email the recipient receives only the text. Before I hit send I can see both the text and the image.
I have tried starting again in safe mode and repairing permissions. That has not helped. I can login to my gmail regularly and cut and paste images with no problem.
    This is exceptionally frustrating.

Hello.  In 2012 you answered a query about the following problem:
"I have had my MacBook Pro for over three years now, without much trouble, but recently I've been unable to send images that I have cut and pasted into Apple mail. I can attach an image that I have saved in my photos and it will send but I can not send an image that I have cut and pasted from the internet."
This problem started with me this morning and it does not happen when I open a test account.  The thread stops after you asked if it occurs in the test account, did you ever find a solution to this issue?  I am using mac mail 3.6 on system 10.5.8.
I hope you receive this, I have never posted in one of these forums.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

  • HT1212 I did not sync my iPad to iTunes on my PC. Now my iPad is disabled because I forgot my passcode when I set up iOS 7 on it. I have tried to use the support info from Apple AND the cut and paste responses from people in the community, but it does not

I did not sync my iPad to iTunes to my PC. Now my iPad is disabled because I forgot my passcode when I installed iOS 7 to it.
Before anyone cuts and pastes the info from Apple support in response to this, I have already tried those steps. iTunes simply states that it cannot do anything since the iPad is locked with a passcode. I cannot access iCloud to use that specific advice as iCloud will not let me sign in; a message keeps coming up reading that there is an error with the server. Remote Swipe? Not sure. It is three hours later, and I am no further.
What else can I do? I never had a passcode set up when I first got my iPad. I would have bypassed this with the installation of iOS 7 if I had known about this.
    Thank you in advance.

You can only play 720p video.
Download the 720p or standard def version.

    Highlight the item.
    Finder>Edit>Copy
Place the item where you want to
    Finder>Edit>Paste
There is 3rd party software that makes cut & paste easier with just 1 or 2 steps.
Q2 how do I correct a spelling error when it has a red line under it?
You can find the correct spelling in the Apple dictionary.  Just add the correct spelling & delete the error.
Care to share which OS you are using and which model iMac you have?

    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Go to Settings>iTunes and App Store and sign out and sign back in.
    - Go to a computer and go to iTunes>Store and sign in.

  • Suggestion-Cut and Paste

I would love to see a "Cut and Paste" function in the iphone. Hopfully the next OS update will have it.

Posting an opinionated statement about the iPhone on a forum meant only for user-to-user technical problem discussion does very little to get Apple listening. Believe me, it's already been said many, many, many times here. The chances are virtually null that an Apple iPhone engineer glances these threads, sees your post, and exclaims, +"Aha! A virtuous and profound prose! We shall add it now."+
Instead, send your thoughts directly to Apple:

  • Cut and Paste - inter-application...

I am wondering if inter-application Cut and Paste is possible? Or am I being remedial? Because I seem to be able to Cut and Paste within an application, but not between applications.
Is it just that I am missing something, or does this functionality not yet exist?

I can copy paste from GMail to any other app.
But I think you are referring to the Bridge Mail application, in which case I am not an expert but this is consistent with the future BlackBerry Balance that will appear in OS7 for smartphones. You have one device, and two sets of applications : the corporate ones and the personal ones. And copy/paste from one set to the other will be forbidden.

  • Cut and paste from Word into Mail

I have an earlier post where I thought I had solved this problem, but now it's back with a twist:
I can cut and paste from Word, but after a few cut and pastes, it seems as if I can only paste the last successful section of text: copying new text from word seems to work, but when pasting into Mail, only the previous section of cut and pasted text appears.
I have checked the preferences within Mail, and they are set for plain text... so there should be no problem, yes?
I also tried quitting and then restarting Mail, but had the same problem...
    Any advice?

    Thanks, aqua*star -
I just checked the "archiving" and "back-up" suggestions in the Mail "Help" window and got the following info:
    Mail preferences and messages
Your Mail accounts, rules, signatures, and Smart Mailboxes preference settings can easily be backed up. Tip: All Mail-related preference files should be backed up or restored as a group.
    To back up:
Note: These steps back up Mail preferences, but do not back up Mail messages (emails), although you can do that with the .Mac Backup utility. See below if you want to manually back up Mail messages (mailboxes).
Create a uniquely-named folder on your desktop (or other favorite location). For example, you might call it "Mail Prefs Backups May152005" (adding a date is a good idea).
    Quit Mail if it's running.
In the Finder choose Home from the Go menu.
    Open the Library folder.
    Open the Preferences folder.
Copy the "com.apple.mail.plist" file to the folder you made in step 1 by Option-dragging the file. Don't remove the original file from its current location (this file contains your Mail accounts information).
    Close the Preferences folder.
    Open the Mail folder.
Copy the "MessageRules.plist" file to the folder you made in step 1 by Option-dragging the file (this file contains your Mail rules).
Copy the "SmartMailboxes.plist" file to the folder you made in step 1 by Option-dragging the file (you guessed it, this file contains Smart Mailboxes information).
Finally, copy the Signatures folder to the folder you made in step 1 by Option-dragging the folder. (Your custom signatures, if you use them, are stored here.)
To restore: Just move all of the copies of the files and folders from your uniquely-named folder to the original locations from which they came, as listed above.
It looks like I can save and restore the Mail rules separately from the plist...

  • Mac running slow when cut and paste

    Hi,
recently I noticed that my mac is running slow when I cut and paste (there is a delay of approx 1-2 secs). I thought it might be some kind of spyware which is trying to steal sensitive information such as passwords, credit cards and others. That would be surprising as I thought those were still rare in Mac. Any thought on this? Suggestions on how to protect my mac from these security issues? Thanks in advance!
    Mauro

    Morning smartasso,
Thanks for using Apple Support Communities.
If you find your Mac is running slowly, there are a number of potential causes that you can check.
For more information on this, take a look at this article:

  • Cut and Paste Cross References

As some of you know, I'm updating a book composed of chapter files, with cross references between chapters. This used to be incredibly buggy, with crashes and broken references common. Some of that is improved in CS5.5, but a couple of big issues remain, and I'm wondering if anybody has any suggestions.
    Two problems:
You generally can't cut and paste a cross reference. I have text that says "see page 27". I want to move this somewhere else in the same document. Cut it. Paste it. The paste comes in looking like this: "see <?>" -- and you get a broken link in the Hyperlinks panel. That really limits text editing. It doesn't always happen. Sometimes you'll paste and your cross reference works. But that's rare. And you can never copy and paste. That always breaks.
Cross references refer to absolute file pathnames. I'd like to rename some chapter files. But I dare not because I assume that all cross references to destinations in those files will break.
Anybody have any suggestions for either of these things? Number 1 is a real work-stopper right now.
    Many thanks,
    Steve

Okay, guys -- I've made some progress. And I really appreciate your support, now, and in the past.
Upgrading from 7.5.2 to 7.5.3 -- no improvement,
Save a new copy of the file via Save As -- no improvement,
Export as IDML and then just double-click the IDML to open it -- worked! (Is that the correct procedure? Anything else I need to do?)
It's still just about suicidal to try and edit text in any story containing multiple cross references to chapter files that aren't open. And adding a new cross reference is super-slow, during which time you're sure you're going to crash. But with the imported file, the new cross ref held.
One other point of confusion: new cross references display differently than ones created in older versions of the software. The old ones have dark grey boxes around them. New ones have light blue boxes. No mention of this in the help file that I could find. Even if you update an old cross ref, the dark grey remains. Only starting from scratch produces light blue.
Something corrupted that file, which IDML got rid of. It was corrupted by doing little more than adding or updating a bunch of cross references, and doing some minor text editing. No images in the file, so that had nothing to do with it.
Chapter file sizes, since you asked, are anywhere from 3 to 40 mb. The file I was having problems with is only 2.5 mb. The book contains 22 chapters. Long ago I converted it from one big file to separate chapters. Easier to manage, chapter numbering works more logically and chapter starts are easier to handle. But cross references worked a lot better with the single file.
In any event, problem solved for the moment, so thanks very much again. But Adobe really needs to look at this. It's been broken for way too long.

  • "cut and paste" not working since lion download

Since downloading Lion, when I go to paste something I've cut into another doc, nothing happens.
I can cut and paste from email to email, but not from doc to email.
    Any suggestions?

    1. Open Disk Utility and repair the permissions
    2. Go to Finder, press Option key, select Go > Library, open Preferences and delete com.apple.dock.plist

  • Cut and paste from text field not working in early access JRE 1.90-ea-b38

I noticed that cut and paste no longer works with JRE 1.9 on Windows 7 professional. Anyone else having that problem?
I haven't posted a bug reports since the Sun days, is there still a place to post bugs?

Which advice didn't I follow?1) How to write a simple SSCCE.
Again why do you have a custom TableModel? It is not required for the SSCCE and in fact is not required for your real program.
Why is KeyListener code included. It has notthing to do with your question.
    2) I also suggested you add the mouse listener to the text area. Well, the text area is defined in the popup dialog, not the editor in my original SSCCE. So why have you made the code so complex by defining a second text area?
I did look at your sample program (the table with pop-up menu appearing on right-click) That was only a wild guess because you didn't respond the second time when I asked you why the mouse listener wasn't added to the text area.

  • Cut and paste files by dragging in finder is only possible by giving my password. in the menu bar cmd x is depicted in grey so not available. How to c

I can only cut and paste files in finder (with the mouse) when i give my password at every single action. This is too time consuming of course. The option in the menue bar cmd x is depicted in grey in stead of black, thus not possible. How to solve this? I use the lion version.

Wow, thanks for the tip!  Should've known Apple wouldn't have made it any easier for us to tap this hidden function.
In the meantime I've gone back to Snow Leopard on my MacBook Pro 13" 2010 model, where I use PathFinder as a Finder alternative that allows cutting and pasting, among other features I like (such as enlarging the default sidebar icon sizes in 10.6.8).  My battery life was cut in half with Lion and most of the new features have been supplemented in Snow Leopard by third-party utilities.  The only missing feature is iCloud, but I'm convinced Apple will backhaul this functionality to Snow Leopard at some time.  Otherwise frustrated Snow Leopard users will move to Windows to move up to the cloud!
