Suggestion: interactive update of text while its path is transformed

I've been using Ps CS6 for a couple of months now, and I occasionally used CS5.1 before that. I'm becoming increasingly frustrated with its lack of interactive feedback during many manipulations. A lack of feedback which is provided in applications costing a small fraction of the price. This is 2012, Ps is a leading graphics app in some ways, but in other ways it is pitifully like a relic from the early 1990s.
The latest case. You have text on a path and you decide to transform that path with Free Transform (Cmd+T). The positions of the text characters don't update while you manipulate the path! You don't see the changes until confirming the transform command. So you blindly transform again, confirm, and again, confirm, and again... again... again... until you chance upon the desired result.
Please improve this, Adobe.

I think you're transforming the characters and their path.
I want the form and scale of each character to be unchanged. It's the path along which the characters flow that I'm transforming. Below is a trivial before and after example.
The characters' positions do not change during use of the transform command, e.g. Free Transform (Cmd+T), when it's only the path that's being transformed. It's like working with a blindfold on.

I have experienced a similar error with the iPhone 4S. The new version of iTunes will not let me restore the phone, it must be updated and nothing appears to be happening. Suffice it to say I am not amused. Apple needs to work this out - I had trouble updating to 8.0.2 as well.

This issue can be caused by an extension that isn't working properly.
Start Firefox in <u>[[Safe Mode]]</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).

Locked on an update can mean a couple of different things. So there are a number of things to try, but start with these.
If you have a "waiting" icon, try tapping on the icon and see if you can pause the update/download. Of it pauses, tap on it again and see if it will resume.
Try holding down on the icon until all of the icons on the screen wiggle. If the X to delete pops up on the waiting/stalled app - tap the X to delete the app. Tao,the home button and the apps will stop wiggling.
You can also try this and see if the downloads will resume. Reboot the iPad by holding down on the sleep and home buttons at the same time for about 10-15 seconds until the Apple Logo appears - ignore the red slider if it appears on the screen - let go of the buttons. Let the iPad start up.

What OS do you work on ?
Do you experience this any particular PDF or happens with all of them?
Did you try the same with turning on the OCR ?Please check the same and compare the outputs .Does that help you in anyway ?

A little information will be of a great help, witch iPhone did you upgrade, memory , and version of software ( iOS 8.x.x )?
Try restarting you iPhone and make sure you have a god internet connection , get as close to your wifi router (1-3 meter / 2-9 feet ) as possible. Don't use restore to factory settings before you tried other options . And most imported du you have an iCloud backup.

It's a bad idea. It *ought* to recover OK, but there are too many cases where it hasn't to be safe assuming that it will.
If, as Changren Yong says, you have a good backup, you always have the safety net of a restore, but it's a silly thing to do,
My advice when doing software updates is to download separately then update (you're always offered an option to download only). You can do what you like during the download, which is always the ling part of the process for me. The update usually (for me) only takes about 5 minutes.
One further point - in case you didn't know, you can initiate a backup by right-clicking the phone in iTunes and choosing Backup from the drop-down. That should always be part of your update process

If you are getting a network timeout error then try temporarily turning off all your firewall and antivirus software until the download has completed.

Photoshop wants me to update its path

I need some help with a problem and I hope you can help me. Photoshop keeps telling me that it has been moved and that I have to update its path. It is true that I moved it to a folder, but when I kept getting this message every time I opened Photoshop, I moved it back. Now the software is in the root folder, but it continues to give me the message. I have tried to update the path as it tells me to (by clicking the button in the pop-up window) but it doesn't stop giving me the message.     Is there anything I can do to make this stop?!
     The message I get is the following:

I am using Photoshop Extended CS5 on a Mac with the student discount.

Are you sure you did not alter the path yourself, for instance by creating a subfolder inside the root-level Applications folder in a misguided attempt "to organize things"?
Also check for illegal characters in the names of folders or files anywhere along the path. Stick to the letters of the English alphabet, numbers and underscores. No apostrophes, slashes, asterisks, ampersands or the like.

In itune did you play any of the songs downloaded. If so plug your ipod back in an manualy check off to sync all music. If that doesn't work you might have to restore the ipod.

‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just canceling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.

SSIS can only recognize the absolute path of a XML Configuration file, the relative path is not supported. Furthermore, if the XML Configuration file is already generated, we can use the Environment variable package configuration type instead so that
SSIS runtime automatically looks for the configuration file from the path defined in the environment variable. This is convenient when we need to deploy a package to different environment. We only need to define the environment variable for package configurations
once on each server, and then the variable can be used by all the packages on this server.

How can I run a continuous interactive update script?

I've written an interactive update sql statement that will need to be run several times. Typing @f:\folder\file.sql can get time consuming and boring after a couple of times of inputting the data.
Is there an easy way to write a procedure that will run the script until you tell it to stop?

The script prompts the user to enter an academic year e.g. 01/02, a student reference number e.g. 20000001, a prior attainment figure, a course suitability figure, an 'other' figure and a baseline figure. These values are updated into the relevant fields using an update statement within the script.
Yes I am using sql+ and have tried using the / function but all that happens is the update statement runs again not the actual @f:\folder\filename.sql;
As for knowing when to quit the script, there would have to be some sort of loop.
Example (Pseudo code)
Prompt user to run the script, answer Y or N
Do
run script
while answer to prompt is Y
I have a feeling that the above loop would have to be written in PL/SQL.

"Text on a path" and "paths" rasterised when printed from a PDF on an iGen

I have just obtained from the printer the first proof of my book (printed on an iGen) and I'd like to find out where one of the problems lie. I'll ask the printer his opinion before second proof, but I don't like to annoy him unnecessarily.
One of the chapters in the book has a lot of maps. I drew rivers by stroking a path, and named the rivers using 'Text on a Path' so that the text follows the curve of the river. Some of the maps have a pale background image on a different layer. And this is where the problem seems to lie.
1. Rivers (and their names) appear normal on a map WITHOUT a background. By 'normal' I mean they look sharp. When magnified they seem to have been drawn as vectors.
2. On maps WITH a background layer, 'Text on a path' appears very chunky (as if it has been rasterised at about 300 dpi) and paths (the rivers) appear to have the jaggies. Horizontal text does not appear to be affected.
I can't be certain that (1) and (2) exactly define the problem, but it's as close as I can get at the moment.
When I opened the original PDF file from which the book was printed, no matter how much I enlarge it, all paths and 'type on a path' retain their smoothness. i.e they are obviously vectors. However, I noticed when I opened the PDF in Acrobat 7 and tried to edit the 'text on a path', the PDF went haywire: the text I tried to edit disappeared, and other text frames on the page were shifted around.
A sample PDF (6.7 MB, including an original two-page spread, and a scanned copy of the iGen print of the same), can be downloaded from:

Two questions:
Q1: On the maps with a background image, is the rasterising of stroked paths, and 'text on a path' due to the iGen mishandling the file? Or might there be another explanation?
Q2: Re Acrobat 7 mishandling my 'text on a path': is this a bug that has been fixed in later versions of Acrobat?
To reproduce this bug do this: Open the PDF described above, and within Acrobat 7 select Tools > Advanced Editing > Touchup Text Tool. Then click inside the name "Georgina River", backspace to try and delete a letter, and the PDF should go haywire.

Sandee: Almost certainly below the text, but I'd have to check them all.
But before I do that, we'll have to go back a step. I can almost handle layers in InDesign, but didn't know they existed in PDFs. The printer printed from the PDF and as far as I can tell after a brief visit to HELP, there aren't any layers in the PDF. When I go to View > Navigation Tabs > Layers and click on the Layer Tab when it appears, there's nothing there; and all the items under Options are grayed.
Q1: Why do I need a layer in a PDF? By not having layers, can that cause problems?
Q2: Re Robert's suggestions: what do you mean by "move all the text to a top layer"? Within InDesign before I export to PDF?
Q3: Is printing more foolproof when I export to PDF, if all my text is on the one layer in InDesign and that layer is above any images? There are several hundred river names, place names etc, sitting on lower layers, but if need be I'll move them all.
