Suggestion on 2 or 4 ch portable (battery-power option) mic pre?

Hi,
I am looking for four channels of mic pres to round out my 16-channel portable setup. My goal is to be able to run the whole system, computer, cards, and audio, from battery power. Right now I have:
Powerbook G4 1.67
MOTU Traveler
RME Octamic-D
I would like to have 2 or 4 more pres that sound, if not excellent, then at least unique. Any suggestions people?
PowerBook G4 1.67 2GB   Mac OS X (10.4.5)   Logic 7.2 / MOTU Traveler

i wasin your situation 3 weex ago...
I got the Mobile I/O from Metric Halo recommended and borrowed it along with a mini me an Motu Traveler and an M audio....Some said the Mbox 2 was great but i did not bother to checkk it...
I wasnt really happy with any of the above mentioned aside from the mini me from apogee - but the integration in Logic thru the funny core audio was not smooth - so I deceided to give the mbox 2 a shot - it blew me right away - the preamps are fabulous - i must say that i had not counted on the quality igot thru the mbox2 but now it's sitting here with me and a sure sm 58 is hooked into it and it sounds amazing - it powers right off of your Powerbook with usb one - if u get make sure u use the left side of the powerbook to power the mbox2....
It has 2 analog ins (mixpre or line) phantom power and 2 SPDIF inputs which u can ride alongside the analog ins....
All for 444$ - protools 7.1 LE included...
This would be my recommendation - bar none

  • Can't find battery power option for time machine

I'm semi new to macs. I've been messing around with my wife's for the last week or so.
I first upgraded her OS to 10.5. After the initial upgrade I was given both the
    a) battery power option and
    b) time machine in menu bar option.
Unfortunately after messing around with her sparesimage I corrupted it and had to do a clean install last night. After this clean install these two time machine options are missing.
Can anybody lead me in the right direction on how to restore both of these options?
Working with a Macbook with an intel processor. Pretty sure last night did all the software and OS updates, so I should be running 10.5.5.

    a) I don't need my laptop's battery status... I want the option to disable time machine backups when my computer is running on battery power.
    b) As my original post states, that option is no longer on the Time Machine preferences screen. It has disappears since I re installed the OS.

  • HT201250 do I want to keep the backup on battery power option checked?

should I keep the back up on battery power choice checked?  not sure if it will use to much battery power

Your call. You won't know if it will use too much battery power until you try it out for a few days.
Depending on the quality of your wireless connection, you may or may not notice that things slow down during a backup.

  • I need a good portable battery backup for my iphone5.  Needs to be small and able to recharge the phone at least twice before it runs out of juice.  Any suggestions?

I need a small portable battery charger for my iphone5.  It seems to eat the battery quickly and there are times when I am away from a outlet to plug into.  Like I said it needs to be small, and rugged, as it will be out in the boat or out in the woods while hunting

Bought the same SRW2048 thinking it should be a good upgrade for the unmanaged 10/100 switch, but within the first two weeks, I need RMA. Then the new switch is starting to have similar problem. Some are trying to blame some network packets causing the switch to reboot. I have a pretty simple default configuration (plug it in, assign IP and plug in workstations!)
    Here's my laundry list:
    - Time is off, never come back to the right one and SNTP never really works. When the switch reboots, I get back to the 00/00/00 and it's a pain to the time right.
    - I see ports going online and offline and lots of them. I know there are nobody at the office, so it has got to be the switch.
We do not have any complex network set up, just one SRW2048 to a ~30 node s network. One one side is the clients and on the upside is a pix firewall.
It's so hard to setup each time the switch reboots, the whole office scramble and lost work.
If you guys have an answer to why ports go offline/online, etc... or why the switch does a cold start, please share.

  • I have pluged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?

I have plugged a portable battery to the USB and my macbook pro stopped working after that, right before it shut down there was a message on the screen that said something like " USB device is withdrawing so much power, please disconnect and connect again?
if the device I connected have caused this, shouldn't the macbook itself have some type of protection that should prevent this from happening.
because when I took it to an apple certified maintenance shop, the guy said that now it could only run while connected to the power. it won't run on batteries. and that I have to change the motherboard.
can I just replace the damaged part only, would apple consider this as a design issue and they could pay for it, or should I just buy a new motherboard for 800$.
    Help.

    BB1B2,
The problem is in finding a tech shop that will/can do board level repairs on Macs. They are few. And I certainly wouldn't spend $800 on a new logic board - I would replace the computer if I had to pay that much!
You could call around to a few repair shops and see if they feel competent to isolate the problem and do a board level repair - but I'm afraid, in the end, that your search will be futile.
    Sorry,

  • Is there any adapter to make my AC Magsafe charger into a USB so I can use my portable battery?

I have a regular Magsafe charger to charge my MacBook Air. I am looking for an adapter that my AC can plug into to make it a USB to be able to charge my MacBook when a plug is not around.

I understand that I can not charge via USB. What I am saying...is there an adapter I cant put on my AC cord that would turn it into a USB therefore being able to plug into portable battery. So in other words the big white box that has a removeable prong (you plug into wall) plug into adapter that turns that into a USB. Kind of like the chargers the iPhones currently come with except reversed.

  • Any portable battery packs that work with the iPhone?

I'll be doing a lot of "line waiting" next week and would like to use the iPhone for entertainment (internet/movie watching). I believe they're rated to last about 6-7 hours but I haven't been getting that much from mine (I'd also want something as a backup in case my battery dies on me and I'm not by a charger (or have the time to let it charge)).
I've seen portable battery packs for the ipod (that plug into the dock connector) but do any work with the iPhone?

I haven't tried one, but I think it's extremely likely that it would work. All the reports are that every iPod charging accessory - wall adapters, car adapters - works with iPhone.

  • Portable battery not charging Ipad Air

got an ipad air, only charges through the adaptor, nothing else. anyone has the same question?

My iPad Air charged from a USB port on my computer, a USB port in my wall outlet and from and Anker portable battery.
Are you using a certified lightning to USB cable? Be sure to use a good cable. Try with the cable that came with the iPad if you are using different cables.
First thing to try is to reset your device. Press and hold the Home and Sleep buttons simultaneously until the Apple logo appears. Let go of the buttons and let the device restart. See if that fixes your problem.

  • Zagg sparq2.0 Portable Battery Charger---is it any good?

I just bought my iphone 4 and I must say that it uses up a lot more power than my old 3GS. Has any one used the Zagg sparq2.0 Portable Battery Charger? I friend of mine loves his for charges his iphone 4 but the reviews that I have read are not very good. Is there a good portable battery charger on the market. I use my phone a lot on the go and I would love to be able to recharge it on the go.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Barbara

Did you ever figure this out?   Have new 4S and same problems.  Car charger seems to work the first few times then it won't charge any longer.  Same problem with 3 different chargers and 2 different 4S phones.
Have you found a car charger that works and doesn't burn out?

  • Samsung portable battery pack 9000mAh

Can the Samsung Portable Battery Pack (9000mAh) safely be used with the iPhone 5?  Will it damage the phone?
    Thanks.

The iPhone 5 seems to work well with many third-party battery packs, including products from Mophie.
As long as the voltage doesn't exceed what the iPhone can handle, it should work with the device just fine.

  • Portable battery pack

I'm looking for a portable battery pack to use with ap350 and br350 when doing a site survey. any recommendations, manufacturers, etc.?

I’m just curios if you bought the battery pack from Terra-Wave and if it worked together with the 350-serie? The specification of the battery pack says that it can deliver 5V and 12V (according to their homepage). My concern it that 350-units uses inline power and that the input power requirements for AP350 units are “24VDC 10% to 60 VDC (Ethernet line power)” compared to the AP340 that have a power consumption of 5V5% @ 800 mA.
I am looking for a battery pack that works with 350 units myself, and I would appreciate any comment of the topic.
The only product I have seen that should work together with AP350 is available here. http://www.ensign-net.co.uk/EWS/mainframe.htm

  • Is there a MagSafe 2 compatible portable external power source for the retina display MacBook Pro?

I’m using a retina display MacBook Pro with the MagSafe 2 connection.   I would like to have a portable external power source to extend the use of my laptop on long field trips where I am away from power sources. Swapping batteries is not an option for this generation of MacBook Pros.  There seem to be many options for PC’s and even iPhones/iPads/iPods but the MagSafe 2 connection seems to be the issue.  I saw one link that suggested buying an Apple MagSafe 2 power adapter and performing surgery on the power cord (using components provided by the vendor) so that the adapter would run on their back up battery.  I was hoping for a more esthetically pleasing solution. Any suggestions?  Does this product exist and I just missed it? Clearly, if a MagSafe(1) compatible external battery existed I could adapt that using the MagSafe to MagSafe 2 converter.

    Sparon,
I wouldn’t recommend using an underpowered AC adapter with your MacBook Pro. It sounds as though the best solution would be to get a different laptop bag with a sufficiently large side pocket.

  • How to maintain high battery power?

For MacBook Pro, the battery was built-in with system, unlike other ordinary notebook where they are detachable. Please suggest which below is the proper way to use with charger and battery so as to maintain high power battery life.
    1. Whenever AC power is available, always connect charger with AC power supply, no matter whether the battery has been charged or not.
    2. Connect charger only whenever battery power has been used up. Whenever battery has been charged, detach the charger so as to allow battery power to be used up again. The procedure will be iterated.
I suggested the Apple web page about battery, however I cannot interpret what the answer should be for my above question.
I look forward to a procedure so as to decrease the battery life depreciation. Perhaps you would noted that, for ordinary notebook, if their battery was continuously charged, no matter it has been charged fully or not, the battery life will be depreciated, where the maximum power would be lower and lower gradually even when it was fully charged. Therefore, in the old day, I would normally detach the battery and directly connect power supply so as to avoid battery power depreciation.
    Please comment.

    HI,
Open System Preferences/Energy Saver. Where you see Settings for, click that pop up menu and select Battery. Now click the Optimization button and select Better Battery Life.
*"Whenever AC power is available, always connect charger with AC power supply, no matter whether the battery has been charged or not"*
    Yes.
*"Connect charger only whenever battery power has been used up. Whenever battery has been charged, detach the charger so as to allow battery power to be used up again. The procedure will be iterated"*
No. Connect to AC power whenever you can.

  • Laptop freezes while on battery power.

I have Arch 64 bit install on a Thinkpad T510. While the laptop is plugged into power, it is rock solid and can run for days without a crash.
The laptop freezes up quite often when it is running on battery power. After anything from 15 minutes to an hour, it will probably freeze. I cannot switch to a tty, I just have to do a hard reset.

I'm not sure if tracker could be causing the problem, or if it is something else.
I have the discrete graphics card enabled - NVIDIA Corporation GT218 [NVS 3100M]

It might not necessarily be caused by loss of power, but maybe if the battery power dips? Or if the battery gets too hot and something overheats, then that could cause freezing. I'm only going by what I've found on google.
Anyway, I found another thread (not sure why I didn't see it before) that suggests that it might be caused by bluetooth (bluez specifically) https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=115814, but it seems like that was more of a locking up problem than freezing completely. I've remove bluez and disabled bluetooth for now anyway (unfortunately can't remove it completely because I'm on Gnome Shell) and I'll run on battery for a good while and see if things freeze again.
EDIT: also followed this - https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/HDAPS in case the problem was caused by the hard drive being moved about.
