Suggestion - RDAC mpp driver bundled with DVD/CD/Public repo.

Might I suggest that you bundle (include) the LSI RDAC driver with the CD/DVD/public-yum.oracle.com repo site so as to provide the mpp driver support for those of us Oracle/Sun customers with a Sun 6000 series storage array without "Crystal" version 7.x firmware so that we can connect our Oracle Enterprise Linux system to the now Oracle 6000 Series Storage Arrays in a multipath failover configuration without having to compile them by hand. Additionally have the driver available in the kernel so that when we update the kernel we don't have to re-compile the mpp driver again and install it by hand (or at least provide an option to include the driver upon installation/upgrade).
The drivers from LSI are located here: http://www.lsi.com/rdac/ds4000.html#current
Just a suggestion to cut down the installation/upgrade irritation.
Thanks.

  • Blue Ray Disk drive compatibility with DVD S Pro, Mac Pro

Ok, I'll make this an official question, where might I find info on BDR drive compatibility with DVD S Pro, Mac Pro, etc? I'm a little surprised that there doesn't seem to be much info available.
I can always use my Pioneer BDR-202 with a windows box, I have several, but I'm trying to get AWAY from them.
Any thoughts, links, etc. welcome, thanks
    Les

Blu-ray offers a level of interacivity that is not possible with DVDs, so it isn't just an different drive that you are getting with Blu-ray. Seeing how Apple didn't upgrade DVD SP with the new FCP Suite 2, it is reasonable to assume they are working on a separate Blu-Ray Studio Pro, that is going to be completely different than DVD SP. Adobe Encore's support for Blu-Ray is extremely buggy, so obviously moving from DVD programming to Blu-Ray programming isn't just a simple tweak to the code.
Apple doesn't pre-announce software they are working on so this is all guess work, but it is reasonable to assume that they are working on a Blu-Ray programming application. Be patient. Do you really have the money to burn on the bleeding edge of new technology? A single Blu-Ray burnable disc sells for $20. Two months ago the exact same disc sold for $45. Prices will continue to fall as things stablize.

  • Drive error with DVD-DL discs

I just bought a case of TDK DVD-DL's and so far on two discs it has burned so far but stopped with this error:
    The drive reported an error
    Sense Key = Medium Key
    Sense Code = 0x0C
    Write Error
Is this a faulty drive or faulty media, I tried using the built in burner and Toast.

    Hi-
Media errors are commonly due to incompatible or poorly made media.
    http://www.digitalfaq.com/reviews/dvd-media.htm
As far as the drive goes, if other media burns properly, I would try a different brand of DL discs.
Taiyo Yuden is recognized as one of the top, quality disc makers.
    Verbatim is also a winner.
Slowing the burn, burning after a restart of the machine, and using a hard drive with ample free space are also ways to improve burn performance/reliability.
It is also possible that a firmware update for the optical drive could help the problem.
Firmware updates typically address media compatibility.

  • Driver issue with DVD SW820

I am not sure what happened to my drive / driver but here is the issue.  My drive showes up in the divice manager and in the properties it showes a Code 39 "Windows cannot load load the divice driver for this harware. The driver may be corrupted or missing. (Code 39)  {Unable to Load Device Driver} %hs dsvice driver could not be loaded.  Error Status was 0x%x"
I have tried uninstalling (not physically) and re-scanned for it.  It comes right back up with the same issues.  I tried using the Windows drive update process as well as downloading and running the application from HP.  Nothing seams to be affecting it.
As background this was preinstalled in my machien but I did at some point remove the SATA conection to test a hard drive I had. But reinstalled it and I believe it had worked since then.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

    Hi:
Try each of resolution steps 2, 3, 4 and 5 at the link below.
One of them should resolve the problem.
#3 or #5 usually works but try #2 first as that is the easiest one to do.

  • DVD Drive issues with A700

     Hi there!
I am having problems with my DVD drive in my A700 machine. The drive is a Sony Optiarc DVD RW AD-7640S. When I put in in a disk I hear the drive spin but when I click to open the drive in My Computer it prompts to insert a disk and ejects the one in there, sometimes it will show two drives one as DVD and one as CD. I have tried many different types of disks as well as using the Lenovo Toolbox, which also asks me to insert a disk. I have removed the DVD drive in the device manager and reinstalled, the driver is listed as being Microsoft and up-to-date.
I have not been able to locate a different driver for this device even off of Sony's website the product is not listed. I considered a possibilty of a bad lens and wanted to replace the drive but notice that there is a seperate eject button in the casing of my machine, powered from the board. This DVD drive has the eject button to the far right and most that I am finding are off-center. Has anyone experienced this issue and believe it to be a driver problem and know where to get a driver? Or if I need to replace the drive can I use any notebook SATA drive or does it have to be this model because of the button in the casing?
                            Any suggestions are appreciated!

    hey kristin7522,
    welcome to the forums.
i do find it weird that in My Computer it shows two optical drives when clearly you only have one and thus i would like you to get into device manager and uninstall the current driver for the DVD drive.
this should then prompt windows to install generic drivers, let it do so.
    try again.
if this does not work, head over to http://consumersupport.lenovo.com/us/en/DriversDownloads/drivers_list.aspx?CategoryID=399423

  • Epson RX 700 DVD label printing - "driver dealing with CD printing is not..

Thank goodness I still have my PowerBook with Tiger 10.4.11 on it so I can print DVD labels. But I would like to be able to do this with my intel iMac with Leopard on it.
When I try to print DVD labels on my iMac with Leopard 10.5.3 using the horrible Epson Print CD software I am getting, "EPSON printer driver dealing with CD printing is not installed."
I searched on this message board and others have gone to the Russian website and downloaded the newer print driver which isn't available on the American website. I found driver 3.09, download it, and installed it. It shows up in English and everything LOOKs good.
Then I try to print from the EPSON CD Print software and it gives me this error.
Note that I also bought Roxio's Toast 9 Titanium with Disc Cover RE and try to print from that it and the print job gets all the way to the printer queue which tells me, "CD/DVD guide open". Well DUH, I'm trying to print the CD/DVD so I want it open, stupid printer.
Or I'm just being stupid. Help. Did I forgot to stand on my head, rub my stomach, pat my feet, and chant something before/after installing the new printer driver which is supposed to work?

I've done all that (exactly as it is suggested from the Epson support site) and I still get the same error. I called their tech support and they admitted that there is no real fix... only a workaround by doing a manual print. I had already figured that out, but all the instruction on their support site is useless.
My older machines work fine, but our new iMacs running Leopard will not print with Print CD.

No. You have no alternative but to plug it into a computer running iTunes and restore it.

My DVD drive not reading DVDs, but can read some DVDs with data on it. Device manager shows no errors.
    I tried to reinstall driver.
    I downloaded new codec

     Nothing worked.

Hi Albos, This is a known problem. These superdrives die after a while. See the various threads on this site and the internet. I have the same problem with my Imac 20" 2.16 ghz. Just wants to burn and read cd's. Its has to do with the laser. For DVD an CD are two different laser and the one for DVD's has probably died in yours (as it did in mine). I bought an external LG burner and problem solved. (And a lot cheaper than replacing the superdrive)
    Hope this helps you.

  • Help, DVD Driver keeps ejecting DVD and requesting a Blank, I insert a Blank and the same message keeps coming up, any suggestions ?

DVD Driver keeps ejecting DVD and requesting a Blank, I insert a Blank and the same message keeps coming up, any suggestions ?

    Hi
    a. You are using Cheap media as Memorex, NoName etc DVDs - I only use Verbatim
    b. You use a DL-DVD or DVD+/-RW type of media - Old Macs can not use DL-DVDs - I only use DVD-R
    c. Your DVD-burner needs a cleaning - Cleaning DVD without liquid but the brush type
    d. Is there OK free space on Your Start-Up (Macintosh HD) hard disk - I never go less than 25Gb free.
    e. Can You describe the material used to create Your DVD
    - Video Codec/s
    - Photo file formats
    - Audio file formats
iDVD can not use all but only a few of them - still it tries and then often fails
    Just to start by.

  • DVD/CD Drive Problem: Works with DVDs, but won't Read CDs

As the title states, my laptop's CD drive will not read CDs (it is a satellite A205 by the way).  The yellow light lights up, it makes noises as if it is trying to read the CD, but just doesn't do it.  It won't show up as a CD being there when I look it up on "computer".  On the other hand, when I put a DVD in, it works no problem.  Anyone have any idea of what I could do?  I've tried uninstalling the driver on device manager and restarting the computer, thus allowing it to reinstall it, and it didn't help.  Any and all help is greatly appreciated!

Try cleaning out the drive with compressed air and/or a lens cleaning disk.  This often times helps.
Next try booting to a Linux Live CD or some other Self Booting CD like Memtest.  If it doesn't then you know for sure that the drive itself is defective as you are taking Windows out of the equation.  If it does, then you know it's a Windows problem which will more than likely require restoring the system to it's factory out of box state using the Recovery DIsks to fix.
If the drive works with a Live CD then try going into device manager, uninstall the DVD drive, then reboot the system to have Windows automatically re-install it.  This sometimes helps as well.
If you don't post your COMPLETE model number it's very difficult to assist you. Please try to post in complete sentences with punctuation, capitals, and correct spelling. Toshiba does NOT provide any direct support in these forums. All support is User to User in their spare time.

  • Has anybody had problems with DVD's burnt with Optiarc drive

I am burning movie DVD's through iDVD. The movie formats are initially QT with PCM sound encoding. They seem to work well on an old Samsung DVD player, but stutter on a brand new Samsung computer. I do understand it could be a problem with the newer computer, but I would like to hear if anyone else has had any problems so I can see if the problem is more widespread.

I too am having trouble playing DVDs burned with my Optiarc drive. Sorry I don't have the solution, but I can add a data point to the story about problems with DVDs burned with Optiarc.
    My current hardware: mid-2007 24" iMac, built-in Optiarc DVD RW AD-5630A with firmware 1AHM / MMC-3.
My scenario: after making home movies with iMovie '08 and iDVD '08, I either burn to DVD (TDK 16x DVD-R 4.7 GB) straight from iDVD or I save as disc image from iDVD and then burn the disc image from Toast 9. In either scenario, I can play the DVD on my iMac or any other Mac or Windows computer. However, it will not play on my Xbox (original Xbox, not the 360) because it freezes when trying to mount (sometimes the Xbox will not recognize the disc as a DVD, and sometimes it will begin mounting the disc and then freeze before displaying the title menu).
Before I bought my new iMac, I had the same workflow on an older 2003 17" G4 iMac that has a Sony DVD burner, and those discs play fine on all DVD players including my Xbox. To test the hypothesis that something happened to my Xbox around the time that I upgraded to my mid-2007 24" iMac, I burned several DVDs using my older iMac, and they continue to mount and play fine on the Xbox. On both my older and newer iMac, I have Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard installed, same version of Toast 9, and I burn at the slowest speed (2x) on both. So it seems that the problem can be isolated to the Optiarc DVD burner, but I'm not sure if there are other factors at play here.
I searched the Optiarc site (www.sonynec-optiarc.com) but could not find a firmware update for the AD-5630A. However, I did find this site via Google:
Liggy's and Dee's modified NEC and Optiarc firmwares
    http://liggydee.cdfreaks.com/page/en/Optiarc-AD-5630A/
Because I was not sure about the site's reputation or validity of the firmware, I have not tried it yet.

  • BSOD on X300 with DVD drive

    All,
I have a X300, XP SP3, SATA AHCI, latest BIOS and drivers.  When the removable DVD drive is not present, the machine runs fine.  But if the DVD drive is inserted, with or without a disk, the machine consistently BSODs within 10 minutes.  Error code 1000007e/c0000005...
If I change SATA to compatibility mode with DVD drive plugged in, the machine BSODs while "Found new hardware".
    Any ideas?

  • New 27" iMac; Glitch with DVD drive

Just got my new refurbished 27" iMac yesterday(my first mac computer ever) and after starting up and playing around few things, I tried to play DVD and it would not accept any DVDs including the setup dvd that came with iMac.
After talking with tech support they asked me to powered down and take out the power plug for few second and restarting the mac solved the issue with DVD.
Not sure how did powering down and restarting helped with DVD in this case. Should I be worried about this DVD drive?
    Thanks,
    Jeegar.

I guess at least it is now working - I have just bought one myself and just been shipped. First refurb Mac i have ever bought so fingers crossed...
