Suggestion to Apple

I was thinking it would be a hugely useful feature of itunes to hihglight in the library which songs have been added to a playlist, that way especially with those of us who has an ipod mini/nano/shuffle, or even a full ipod we can easily chop and change songs in the current playlist without duplication.
Unless of course there is a similar feature already that i have come across.
Does anyone have any views, ideas or suggestions on this point - do you think it would be worth putting this to apple for future iTunes software, and if so does anyone know how it would be best to submit these views.

One way to accomplish this might be to create a Smart Playlist and use the Date Added, setting the criterium to something like "in the last one day" or whatever would be appropriate for your use. Perhaps that would give you want you want.

  • Suggestion to Apple: Animated GIF's in mail.

[Note: I would prefer to not hear one response from an apple user stating "animated gifs are ugly I'm glad it doesn't work." I too hate them, but read on...]
I recently helped a family of PC users switch to a Pentium iMac. I do their tech support and this has made my life SO much easier
The wife loves sending stupid little animated gifs back and forth to her friends... it's not for us to judge if they're ugly or annoying, they like them. Period.
I am so ashamed to have to go to her when I return her computer today and say "I'm sorry, this awesome and capable computer I have set you up with is unable to play back simple Animated GIF's.
I trust in Apple... playing back an animated gif should NOT be a major security threat. Make it work. Of course I could switch her back to Thunderbird but then that breaks her Address Book as well.

If her friends are using Outlook Express, then it should work. Here is an excerpt from:
    http://forums.macosxhints.com/archive/index.php/t-19275.html
    a) Apple Mail can embed animated Gifs in Mime Format Mails, but it doesn't show them animated itself! This means if you send such a Mail to a user with e. g. Outlook Express, he will see the Gif with it's animation, although Apple Mail didn't show it!
    b) Even more interesting is this: when a user with Outlook Express sends you an Mail with embeded animated Gif, Apple Mail also shows the animation! Why is this, you may ask? It's because Outlook Express sends the Mail as HTML with MIME Attachment and also does a URL "CID:" reference in the HTML code to the actual embeded animated Gif! Quite nifty!

You can read the site for more information.
The other option is to just use MS-Entourage.
Entourage can synchronize with Apple's Address Book. And, it's naturally going to have support built-in for Microsoft's methods.
As for making suggestions to Apple, you'll get better results by making the request to Apple directly.
They don't comb this discussion forum for ideas. And, tend to ignore what we say here.
So, go to their actual feedback page, and submit your request there:
    http://www.apple.com/macosx/feedback/
At least then you know someone at Apple will actually read it.
There's no guarantee that they'll implement your request. But, you'll have a better chance if you submit your requests there.
Like all requests, the more people that want it, the more likely it will be added. So, get all your friends to request the feature if you want it.
Obviously, if the request comes repeatedly from the same person, they'll probably grow tired of it, and quit reading your requests. But, if several distinctively different people ask for something, they are very likely to consider it.
    Hope this helps.

  • Everytime I try to update to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 I get an error containing 0xE while it is trying to backup data from the iPhone.  I have done everything suggested in Apple support.  How can I upgrade to iOS5 without losing all the data on my phone?

Everytime I try to update to iOS5 on my iPhone 4 I get an error containing 0xE while it is backing up data from the iPhone before installing the new operating system.  I have done everything suggested in Apple support with no success.  I still get the error everytime (about 5 minutes into backing up iPhone data).  How can I upgrade to iOS5 without losing all the data on my iPhone (the error message says that if I continue I will lose all data on the phone)?  If I have already synced the phone before upgrading the OS, would I be able to restore my data after installing the new OS by syncing after the OS upgrade is complete?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I had the same problem today and was able to resolve it without having to do a restore or reset. The problem had something to do with my mail accounts. The upgrade reset my mail settings, switching both my gmail and my .mac mail to "archive all mail". I went into the General Settings, disabled that setting, and resynced the phone. The "other" storage allottment dropped back down to less than a gig.
Before you restore or reset, I would try that first.

  • Mountain Lion won't install on 10.7.4. Suggestion from Apple is to completely erase harddisk and install Leopard Snow Leopard Mountain Lion. Is there no other way to install Mountain Lion

Mountain Lion won't install on 10.7.4. Suggestion from Apple is to completely erase the harddisk and install Leopard > Snow Leopard > Mountain Lion.
Is there no other way to install Mountain Lion?

I tried and failed for several hours to install Mountain Lion, and was repeatedly getting the "Recovery System" cannot be created error.  I tried all the tricks: resizing the drive partition, booting from an external boot drive, all to no avail.  After reading other users struggling with the same issue, I had determined it to be a boot camp drive error.  However, I didn't want to have to erase and begin anew when I came upon a possible solution.  I had long ago renamed my boot camp drive with a "." (".windows" for me) in order to avoid having the partition show up on my desktop.  So, I boot into windows and renamed the c: drive without the "." ("windows"), and reboot into os x.  The install then went off without a hitch.  I hope this will be helpful for others struggling with this issue that may have renamed their boot camp drives in a similar manner.

  • Is there a way to make suggestions to Apple?

With the iPhone being so popular and many reports of it being stolen, the Find My iPhone can be a great feature.    Except that the perp can turn it off!!!  What good is the feature then?
How can I suggest to Apple that they put a pass code lock or restricive lock on that particular feature so it can't be turned off so easily?    It seems they could easily fix this in an update.

I wouldn't hold your breath since there is an option that prevents this along with preventing anything on your iPhone from being accessed, prevents a backup from being created on another computer, prevents the iPhone from being synced with iTunes on another computer, and from being restored with iTunes on another computer without having to place the iPhone into recovery mode first.
All someone has to do is power a CDMA iPhone off or turn Cellular Data off which prevents Find My iPhone from working. The Passcode lock prevents Cellular Data from being turned off and from accessing anything on the iPhone.

I have done everything suggested in Apple's support pages and reinstalled iTunes and all Apple software as suggested.

  • My iPhone 4 turns off (crashes) after accesing any apps, It work fine when plugged to charger. I tried all troubleshooting steps suggested by Apple but it doesn't work. What could be the problem and what are the solutions?

My iPhone 4 turns off (crashes) after accesing any apps, It work fine when plugged to charger (power supply). I tried all troubleshooting steps suggested by Apple but it doesn't work. I backed up my phone. I restored it several times. Even I re-installed iphone software. Also I restored it as a new iphone but doesn't work. What could be the problem and what are the availble solutions?

We can't know if there's a "fixture" because we can't examine your phone.  But Apple can.  Make a Genius Bar appointment and get your phone evaluated.

  • Suggestions to Apple

Anyone know if there is a way to make suggestions to Apple on features we'd like on future iPhones? I'd like a screen lock button similar to the ringer vibrate button for when I hand my phone to my son to watch his movies. He constantly touches the screen not knowing how to use the phone and pauses or backs out of the movie. It's be nice to have a little switch to flip that would still display the screen but keep it from being changed accidently, i.e. when watching movies mainly.

  • Wondering if there is a place that we can make suggestions to apple?

I was just wondering if there was a way that we can make suggestions to apple about things we would like to see on IOS software.
Wouldn't it be nice if there was a place that the engineers would check, maybe they will come up with some good ideas.
    Here's mine.
Since most people carry there phone with them every where they go, but might not carry there ID.  Wouldn't it be nice if you could push the home button, even on a locked phone and be able to see an overlay on the picture that we chose that would have emergency information.
My locked screen has the earth planet that comes with the phone, I think its pretty.  I want to be able to see that, and also the date and time.  But I would also like to be able to have emergency information on the phone in case I am in an accident while riding my bike or walking.

  • Suggestions for Apple in dealing with icloud outages

The ongoing outage of icloud mail service to many of us, two days and counting as of Sept 12, 2012,  prompts me to make some constructive suggestions for Apple.
Apple should find ways of letting customers know whether customer inability to access their icloud mail is something the customer can fix or whether it is a problem only Apple can fix.
As a starter, the popup windows that users see when icloud mail is unavailable should direct them to the web site where system status of icloud mail is shown, namely
    http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/systemstatus/
Customers will be less likely to exhibit anger toward Apple if they are given some real information about why icloud mail is unavailable. This can be put on the system status web page above.
The staff on the floor at Apple Stores should know, and be willing to tell customers, that when their own ipads are having difficulty communicating because of a server problem, that this may also affect the service to customers.
Apple should consider gathering from clients of icloud mail some alternative email accounts that could be used to notify clients of outages.
Apple should acknowledge that people do rely on their icloud services and should find ways of using backup servers, much as hospitals have backup generators to supply electricity when municipal sources fail.

Exactly the same problem.  But it gets worse.  iTunes has now disappeared from my list of installed programs so I can't uninstall anyway.  Appalling problem.  This update clearly didn't get proper testing before release.
In answer to your question about your song library, I seem to remember uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes a few years ago and the uninstall didn't remove the library then - I can't see why it would.  Of course there have been a lot of updates since then, so it is definitely worth asking the question.  Personally, I would be inclined to make a copy (if you have the space) of the iTunes folder just to be sure.
I certainly hope they get this fixed soon.  I use iTunes mainly for podcasts on my iPod and I can't download anything right now.

  • [Suggestion to Apple] Terminal apps to autodetect proxy settings

This is a suggestion to Apple engineers (did not find a better place for it).
When changing network connection, use of proxy is automatically informed to most OS X apps, but not command line tools s.a. subversion client, wget/curl.
This could be done by setting/unsetting 'http_proxy', 'ftp_proxy' and capitalized versions of those, when connection type changes, in new and also existing terminal windows' environments.
Were OS X to do this "magic", applications that currently require manual changes for proxy access would just work. This is the kind of thought through easiness that keeps me loving Mac OS X, anyways.
(not a subscriber, pls. send private email if questions on the issue - thanks!)

These are user-to-user forums. The likelihood of any engineers seeing this is nil. If you want to report this to Apple, send a bug report (or enhancement request) via its Bug Reporter system. Join the Apple Developer Connection (ADC)—it's free and available for all Mac users and gets you a look at some development software. Since you already have an Apple username/ID, use that. Once a member, go to Apple BugReporter and file your bug report/enhancement request. You'll get a get a Bug (ER) ID number; thus, starting a dialog directly with engineering.
Additionally, Unix and Terminal queries are best handled at the Unix forum under OS X Technologies where the Unix and Terminal gurus hang out.

  • A suggestion to Apple!

    With all due respect,
I am a very big fan of apple products and engineering team. They are the BEST!
I don't have a question rather i have a suggestion to apple. My iPhone 4s was recently stolen from me and it was the most dearest thing to me. I want you to add a self destructing feature in iPhone so that if someone stole it, they should be punished!

  • I want to make a suggestion to Apple

I want to simply make a suggestion to Apple on a modification I would like, but can't find any way to do this.  Any suggestions?  While working with a client, his phone died (not iPhone) and asked if he could borrow mine to make a quick call.  While he was on the phone, I received a text message from, of all people, a competitor of his.  Very embarrassing.  I would like to suggest to Apple that there be some way to temporarily disable, not only the sound, but the visual notification of an incoming text message.
