Suggestion to firewall a biometric timeclock

All Experts,
I want to see what would be the best practice to get a finger print scanner.  We recently hired a contract company to come in and bring in some temps to come in and do some work.  Well, they want their temps to scan their fingerprint on a timeclock and they way they can keep track of what time they come in and out (as well as bill purposes).  Well, I want to see would the best way to do this?  We do not want any other equipment that is not controlled by us to be on our corp network.  One thought I had was to put them on the DMZ network and just give it a NAT address from a public IP to the biometric device itself with a ACL list?  Also, I was told that they could possible have someone there from their corp network plug in and access their site as well.  I am sure I can put the one user on the guest network.  I am more concern about the biometric device if anything.  Any suggestions on what I can do here or recommend best practice?

  • Brand new iMAC, Mountain Lion installed, dashboard widgets will not download. Webpage times out. Any suggestions?

Just purchased a brand new iMAC and sucessfully performed download and install of Mountain Lion (free upgrade). Discovered that dashboard widgets will not download as webpage times_out in both Safari and Firefox. Already set security to allow downloads from 'anywhere' but with no change. Downloads from anywhere else works fine, just widgets won't work, and I've been trying for several days now. Any suggestions? (firewall is off).

  • Firewall tab greyed out in System Preferences - have I been hacked?

    Hi,
I am running 10.4.11. In System Preferences, under Sharing, the Firewall tab is greyed out, suggesting my firewall is not running or has been tampered with.
    So I did some poking:
    brendan% sudo ipfw show
02000 844220 100107534 allow ip from any to any via lo*
02010 0 0 deny ip from 127.0.0.0/8 to any in
02020 0 0 deny ip from any to 127.0.0.0/8 in

20000 0 0 deny log icmp from any to me in icmptypes 8
65535 92033 23684897 allow ip from any to any
Does this look suspicious? I also tried:
    brendan% /usr/libexec/FirewallTool
    Firewall Tool: Error, sysctlbyname(net.inet.tcp.blackhole): 1
    Firewall Tool: Error, sysctlbyname(net.inet.tcp.loginvain): 1
    Firewall Tool: Error, sysctlbyname(net.inet.udp.blackhole): 1
    Firewall Tool: Error, sysctlbyname(net.inet.udp.loginvain): 1
Firewall Tool: Error, sysctlbyname returned: -1
    Firewall Tool: Error opening socket
Firewall Tool: Error 1, Error setting up V4 Firewall!
Firewall Tool: Error opening socket for V6!
Firewall Tool: Error 1, Error setting up V6 Firewall!
Should I be concerned? Am I being paranoid?
If I want to reset and restart my Firewall, how do I do that, if the tab is greyed out in System Preferences?
If I want to load a backup copy of my firewall configuration, what file do I need to copy from my backup disk? There is no /etc/firewall.conf on my system.
    Thanks.

As I recall, if you do any sort ipfw stuff in command line under Tiger, that that made Sharing > Firewall gray out. Try doing a sudo ipfw flush then see if that lets you reconfigure from Sys Prefs.
This article discusses Tiger's default firewall settings with web sharing turned on. That will give you a start in seeing what you should have on. This article may help a little, too, if you are running services or have certain softwares doing different things (gaming, etc.)
Hope this helps some; sorry I can't help you more.

  • Warcraft Firewall problem

    Hi all
I bought World of Warcraft for my kids at the weekend, and installed then patched the game which is played over the internet, pretty much without any problems on my G5 tower. Now I need to use my tower for work, pretty much all the time, so I have installed the game on our Mac Book Pro - this is where we have the problem. In order to patch the game after installation (which is done automatically by the game), our Sharing/Firewall needs configuring as per Blizzards instructions here:
    http://faq.wow-europe.com/en/article.php?id=321
This worked fine for the G5, but the MBP has 2 entrys for ports, presumably because of the newer OS, and requires these:
    TCP Port Numbers
    UDP Port Numbers
I have tried entering the same info Blizzard suggests in a few variants but neither works. The patch installer suggests the Firewall is blocking the download. There are no other tech support topics I can find to help with this and hope someone out there can tell me what to do ... so I can get some work done!
    Cheers
    Dave

You're right, even though the patch installer reports a problem, being behind a Firewall, I left it alone, then went back a while later and it had downloaded. All up and working now folks - many thanks.

  • Error msgs in app store; network connection could not be made

Anyone else having trouble downloading apps directly from the appstore on your iPhone or iPad?
50% of the apps do not want to download. The msg I will get is that there was a problem and it will be available for download next time I connect to iTunes. And I already paid for it
Connecting to iTunes on my iMac tonight there were updates available for apps, I clicked to download them and again about 50% of the apps will not download. I now get the error msg that that app blah blah blah could not be downloaded because a network connection could not be made. Even iBooks won't download. Others download fine.
The apps I purschased on my iPad or iPhone and that did not download are nowhere to be seen.
    Any insight?
    cheers,
    Christine

Just thought I would add that I did every test the help files suggest, no firewall etc.
Strange thing is that after the majority downloaded I had about 55 apps left that could not be updated because of the network connection that could not be made, I downloaded them manually instead of clicking 'yes please do download them all'.
I still came across a few that gave me the msg that an connection could not be made but when I skipped them and came back later to try again it did download. Took some time but I now have them all up to date.
Now see if I can sync the iPhone and iPad.
I run the latest iTunes 10.4.1 (10) and 10.6.8, have not updated to Lion yet.
    cheers,
    Christine

  • How do I activate Acrobat on a second PC?

I have Acrobat XI Pro and it runs fine on my PC. I am trying to install it on a second PC, but I keep getting an error message saying that the computer is offline and cannot access the internet. Email and browsers are working. Coould this be a firewall issue?

Moving this discussion to the Acrobat Installation & Update Issues forum.
Ysask you are likely on the right path with suggesting your firewall could be causing the problem.  I would recommend you check it's configuration or try temporarily disabling it to see if the problem continues.
You may also want to review Sign in or activation errors | CS6, CS5.5 Subscriptions, CS6 Perpetual - http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/activation-network-issues.html.  This document contains several other common causes for the difficulties you are currently experiencing.

I can't download the Adobe Edge Reflow. The file's downloading is successfull but the file doesn't go to my Creative Cloud so I can't install the programme. I have already install the Photoshop CC and the Reflow Plug-in for Photoshop.

    Hello
    1. I am running on Windows 8.1
    2. When running the installer file from https://creative.adobe.com/products/download/reflow I get the following choice
I click "OK" which doesn't do anything for me (CC is off).
I turn CC on and run the installer again. I get the following window that within few settings disappears:
Then - just for half a second it says "Launching Creative Cloud desktop" and then it brings CC to front, and that's all.
    RF still not there.
    3. I spoke ta support agent on the Adobe chat on Friday. He looked into my computer for an hour. Uninstalled After Effects (after failing to update it). For some reason all apps disappeared from the list. They then reappeared after he opened PS.
This morning After Effects is still showing up in my system and is operational.
    Weird.
    4. At the end the agent suggested maybe Firewall is the problem here. Trying that out now.

  • Cannot download TV episodes "stopped (err = 9006)"

I can't download 4 episodes of 19 from a season pass I purchased. I have no firewall, virus-protection, or web-acceleration software installed beyond what OSX provides.
    I have tried:
    (1) Checking for Available Downloads repeatedly.
    (2) Clearing the "~/Music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Downloads" folder repeatedly.
    (3) Downloading from my iMac and my Macbook Pro (each with it's own user account).
    (4) Creating a new, test user account.
    (4) Downloading from two different physical locations.
Nothing works. Apple Support insists: "this error is caused by limits set by your ISP. It tends to occur with files that are over 2GB in size. It isn't based on the file being SD or HD but the total overall size of the file.
I do realize you have mentioned that you have contacted your ISP and they said there is no limit set on your downloading and that you have also tried downloading from two different locations.
Unfortunately, there is not something that I can do on this end to make these files download so I can just refer you to your ISP again to consult about this issue."
I made 2 separate calls to my ISP. They claim, and my experience suggests, there's no limits and according to speetest.net my bandwidth is fine. Furthermore, the files I can't download range from 300 - 800 MB.
    Does anyone have any suggestions?

This may be a little late to be suggesting anything for this but I ran into the same problem just this morning while downloading a TV episode. I am running OS X 10.9.5 and iTunes 12.1.0.50 .
Tried all the usual things such as re-starting iTunes and re-booting my MBP with no resolution. Checked some threads that suggested running using an Ethernet cable connection rather than Wifi or turning Wifi off. Tried both and still no resolution...the error 9006 continued. Checked some other threads on this and saw that someone suggested the Firewall could be involved.
So I checked my Firewall and found the OS X Firewall was indeed turned on as per System Preferences for Security & Privacy. Before trying by turning the Firewalll off, I clicked on the lock and entered the password to get Admin privileges This allowed me to click on Firewall Options where I got the window listing the apps in which incoming connections were allowed. I noticed that iTunes had two lines in this list while the other 4 apps in the list had only one. I deleted the second line for iTunes thinking that the first line would be the oldest one.
With Wifi turned off and connected via an Ethernet cable, I tried the download again and it worked. I paused the download and turned Wifi back on. The download resumed OK. I paused the download again and disconnected the Ethernet cable. The download resumed again normally.
Don't know why there would have been two lines for iTunes in that list I saw but deleting the second line seemed to resolved my 9006 error. I see this is a very old thread but thought I'd add my comments anyway.

  • Sharing files between XP & Vista Computers

I've set up Network Magic on my XP & Vista operating system computers. Works great from Vista to XP. Can share files perfectly. However I need the reverse. I need to share the files from the XP machine on My Vista machine. I get an error message that the Vista machine cannot access files even though the machines are communicating. I've set up windows firewall correctly on both machines, so I don't believe it's a firewall issue, but not absolutely positive. Any help would sure be appreciated. I've troubleshooted for a week & am about ready to take it to a professional computer repair center. I've tried pinging the other machine and get a timeout error, which leads me to believe there may be a communication problem. If anyone has any suggestions, I would sure appreciate it. I'm just about ready to throw in the towel. I thought that networking 2 computers would be the simplest task. It's turned into one of the most complex nightmares I've ever had to deal with on computers. Thanks for any help.
    Kevin Kierer

I double checked everything and file and printer sharing is turned on everywhere I can find to turn it on. Windows firewalls are configured correctly and have file & printer sharing on. I even turned both firewalls off & still was unable to access files on the XP machine. Internet works great on both machines. I can do a screen shot of the XP machine on the Vista machine and everything checks out as being connected & working properly. Something somewhere is blocking file access from the XP machine, but I cannot figure what it could be. I've uninstalled anything that I thought might be causing a problem and still get the "cannot access shared folder" message. It suggests a firewall issue, but as far as I can tell, there is no firewall blocking file sharing. The files share perfectly on the XP machine when I try to access the Vista files. It just won't do the reverse and when I try to use the networked printer on the Vista machine, the queue just holds the job forever and never prints. I also get a  timeout error when I try to ping the XP machine from the Vista machine. I get a "file path not found" error when I try to connect to the drive using Vista's networking controls. The XP computer icon only shows up once in awhile and when I do a map network drive command, it says it cannot find the path even though the path exists and is typed correctly. Here is all the information about my system. I certainly appreciate any suggestions as to what might get this network finally sharing files from my Vista machine. Thanks.

  • Contribute Won't Transfer Data

After working well some weeks ago, Contribute CS3 now says it
is not able to transfer data, so I can't access my site to edit. It
does state that it can connect to the server, but then nothing
happens. I've had to recreate a connection profile with the ftp
info and url, but still nothing. The message suggests my firewall
is to blame but those settings are the same as when the program was
working fine. Needless to say, I'm perplexed.
    Any thoughts?
    Joe

I've learned that my firewall is evidently the culprit which
is surprising since I've never encountered this before while the
    firewall has been on.
Since I'm on a Mac using 10.4, what settings in my
Preferences should I utilized to allow for access while the
    firewall is on?

  • Having trouble with synching (iTunes/iPhone) & Security software

I use ZoneAlarm Security Suite on my PC.  Ihave been using iTunes/iPhone successfully for a couple of years with this software, but after the most recent iPhone o/s upgrade I get communications errors that prohibit my iPhone from syching properly.  It often comes up saying that I need to restore my iPhone.
Any suggestions on firewall settings that may be causing these issues?

Find a new friend. If you don't have access to the last computer your phone synced with, you will have to force your phone into recovery mode & restore it as a new device to remove the passcode. All data on your phone will be lost:
Turn the phone off using the Sleep/Wake button, then the slide to power off. If you are unable to do that, press and hold the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons at the same time. When your phone turns off, release the Sleep/Wake and Home buttons. Then, leave the USB cable connected to your computer, but NOT your phone, iTunes running, press & hold the home button while connecting the USB cable to your dock connector, continue holding the home button until you see “Connect to iTunes” on the screen. You may now release the home button. iTunes should now display that it has detected your phone in recovery mode, if not quit and reopen iTunes. If you still don’t see the recovery message repeat these steps again. iTunes will give you the option to restore from a backup or set up as new. In your case, you will only be able to restore as new.

  • Problems in verifying connection to CF Administrator Mail Server

I  need to send e-mails using CFMAIL, but am unable to verify the connection to the CF Administrator Mail Server, which presently is localhost.
This question has been asked in other places, but I have checked the remedies suggested there (firewall blocking, etc) to no avail.
I am using Server Port 25 and have tried enabling both TLS and SSL.
There are no basic Server issues, since I get the message "Server has been updated successfully" upon re-entering the Server Settings data.
    Thanks in advance for comments.

Are you saying that you have an SMTP server running on your localhost?  That would be unusual.  Even if you do, the real SMTP server would have to allow relaying to allow your local SMTP server to get mail through it.  If you don't have an SMTP server running on your localhost machine, then you need to specify the name/IP of the SMTP server on the CFADMIN MAIL screen.
