Suggestion wanted for next release Sun Studio installer?

My name is Ngoc Nguyen, tech lead of Sun Studio Support Group. We are in the process looking for design/modifying our installer per customer's feedbacks or requests. We really want to make it become your most favorite installer.
Please give me all of your ideas, suggestions, requirements that you like the installer should have. We will consider any feedbacks.
Or If you already filed a CR (Changed Request) before and you feel strongly that we should implement it, please give me the CR number.
We really want to hear from you.
Best Regards,
Ngoc Nguyen
Sun Studio Support Team

I think new installer should provide an option to install the product as if it is extracted from a tar file:
- no packages are installed
- no changes in registry
- no root privileges are needed
- the product is completely installed under one directory,
so it is easy to uninstall this version - just remove one directory.
This installation is a very convenient way to try a new version without affecting any existing installation.
Thanks,
Nik

  • Suggestion for Next Release - Dynamic Column Widths

Is it possible for the next release of xcelsius to allow the developer to dynamically set column widths?
Appearance > Layout > Custom Column Widths - let the developer bind the values dynamically to a range.
    Thanks.

The XScorecard (part of the XComponents @ www.antivia.com which are free to download and free to use) does exactly this. In fact it does a little more because the column widths bind in both directions, which is useful to sync two tables together. If they are bound to the same column width cells then even if the end-user drags the columns in one table the second on changes as well. If there are things that the XScorecard does not do which you need it to then leave a comment and I will see how difficult it would be to add.

  • Call for beta testers for next release of ODT

The next release of ODT is approaching (no dates yet) and we are seeking motivated testers who can help us by playing with the product and providing valuable feedback.
If you would like to participate, please email me at [email protected] Just a note: I cannot guarantee there will be space for everyone who wants to join the beta.
Please include in your email whether your work is primarily with Windows applications or ASP.NET applications and whether or not you use source control regularly.
    Thanks!!!

How abut you perfect it for PC / Firefox first? I just updated to Firefox 9.0.1 and click to call is broken. I cannot find any reference for it in Tools.

  • More items for next release

I read that another user would like to be able to alphabetize their bookshelves and I could not agree more.  But I have one other request.
When you load a book you don't have the option of changing the title or the author.  No complaints about that - EXCEPT - not all publishers follow the same format of last name first, first name last.  Even from the same publisher a different format could be used.
I end up with books by the same author that I cannot get sorted into the same general area in my library unless I make bookshelves.
Bookshelves don't alphabethize.  So, it can end up being a mess.
Furthermore, titles don't take into account that a certain book is from a specific series.  So, it is difficult (if not impossisble) to arrange things in a way that is meaningful, even if the author name is formatted identically.
Can you add allow me to add and hide columns in the library? I would want to be able to add my own data in these fields. This way I can sort by author, series or some other key word that is relevant.
Another option would be to allow for sub folders within the bookshleves.  That would be great too.
    Your efforts are greatly appreciated.
    Thanks, Cozworth

Thank you for the feedback.  Making the Library better in general is certainly one of things I am looking forward to working on in the next release.

  • How to generate gdb compatible .o for CMT using Sun Studio C compiler?

    Hello,
we've been working on a joint project for telco bearer plane applications on CMT.
We started the project using gcc for Sparc and we switched to Sun Studio compiler when we hit some bugs in gcc (optimized mode was not completely stable). The switch took a few weeks due to syntax differences and toolchain option changes.
With Sun Studio we got a double digit percent performance improvement, so Sun Studio proved more stable and faster than gcc.
To debug programs we require gdb, because the Telco customers are more familiar with it. The problem is that Sun Studio generates object files which are not compatible with gdb.
Our main requirement is to be able to generate gdb compatible object files using Sun Studio compiler.
    We checked this link:
    http://cooltools.sunsource.net/gcc/ReleaseNotes.html
but this seems to be a variant of gcc. At this point we cannot switch compiler because of the performance and stability issues mentioned above and because it will take a few weeks to months to switch.
    We have two questions:
    1) Is there a way to generate gdb compatible object files using Sun Studio 11?
    2) If not, is this funcionality going to be available in a future release of Sun Studio and what is the time frame?
    Thanks for your help.

The undefined symbol is in the C++ runtime support library that is part of Solaris. Probably you have an out-fo-date version of the libraries.
You can get current patches from the Sun Studio patch page:
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/cc/downloads/patches/index.html
From the page for your version of WorkShop or Sun Studio, select the C++ Runtime Library patch for the version of Solaris that your are running. While you are at it, you can get the current compiler patches as well.
If patching the runtime libraries does not fix the problem, let me know, and also show the exact command lines that you use for compiling and linking the program.

  • Approximate time for next release

Can anyone at Adobe give a general idea for timing of the next release? Eg. Q4 2010, Q1 2011

    Hello out there....
I've been waiting for someone from Adobe to answer this one?
After lots and lots of great feedback and suggestions from this forum, can you give us hint of when we might see some of them, pretty please?

  • Suggestion for next release of TM

    Hi
I hope Apple takes up this suggestion or someone tells me I have been doing something wrong.
I have a 250GB external hard drive which I use for storing movies I make. I want to allocate half my 250GB to TM. I don't want to reformat my external drive with its current moves and set up 2 partitions.
It would be nice if in System Preferences one had the capability to allocate a % of the external drive to TM.
    Hopefully fixed in next update.
    Regards

I don't think you really understood my post.
To do such a thing would be to put your data in danger.
As TM changes how the file system (the thing which keeps track of your files and so on) works it would be unsafe to promote such a behavior you wish for. And by giving the option to set a limit on how much space TM may use on a partition Apple would in some way promote this dangerous setup.
But on the other hand such a thing could be useful if you were to have several computers with TM to use the same partition.
My point is that Apple will probably not implement your request as it would be more dangerous than helping, in most of the cases were it would be used.

  • PDF renderer for next release please

I would like to add to the
    discussion
    on the old labs forum.
AIR would be hugely more useful to me if it could display a
pdf natively. This would mean bundling a basic pdf renderer with
AIR. This needn't add much to the AIR runtime (e.g. FoxIt reader is
    only 2mb).
As mentioned in the linked discussion, AIR could check for
the presence of Adobe Reader x.x and / or full Acrobat and then
make use of them if required. But the ability to simply display
(and hence print) pdf's without launching an additional application
and without worrying about what the user might have installed on
various OS's would IMHO make AIR a more wonderful thing!
    Here's hoping..

The release notes state that you can display a pdf natively,
ONLY if the client has the most current 8.1 reader. Unfortunately,
I have not yet found a method for doing this, despite having the
    most current reader...
Regardless, I second this proposal, and I do not understand
why Adobe would essentially leave one of the core products of AIR
out of the 1.0 release. I would have assumed that the first alpha
would have been able to not only render a pdf to the display, but
also write a pdf out to the client machine. Understandably, this
may be easier said than done, but should have been done before a
    1.0 release.
Also, I do not understand why 2/3 of the release notes are
known issues many of which should have been taken care of prior to
release. I do not understand why anyone would knowingly release a
    buggy product.

  • Logic wish list for next release

Cosmetics may not be important for some but for the rest of us it is.
When I work with PT9 or DP7 I am amazed how beautiful they look. It makes it so easy and pleasing to work with them. BUT I like Logic Pro better for everything else so APPLE if you read this MAKE LOGIC PRO WITH THEMES (COLORS CHOICES) OR SPECTRUM CHOICES AS IN PT9 and DP7 . IT MAKE LIFE BETTER WHEN YOU WORK 10 -12 HOURS A DAY ON PROJECT.
The Dark gray color In Logic is nice but boring. Other competitor are cathing with a pleasing environment.
DP7 is a wonder and EM choices of DAW for 2010 Cosmetics are important to.
    Thanks:-)
    ED

meh ... color themes I can live without.
here's something I've been wishing more and more for though:
    * bounce by markers
Say you've got a whole show tracked. You run through and you set markers on each of the songs. Maybe you run through again and set some automation while you're mixing etc.
Now you just need to bounce each song out and set the ID3 tags etc.
What'd be super nice would be a bounce by markers button that just starts at the beginning of the project and bounces each marked section and labels it with a track number and the title of the marker.
I also vote for "flex pitch" ... that's highly marketable and good to have.
And also Mainstage as a software intstument in logic would be AWESOME.

  • Five-wants for next Acrobat version

1). Make the stamp tool click able so that once selected, it remains selected to enable stamping multiple pages without stopping. This was an active 'feature' in version 4 (possibly other versions).
2). Add code to allow stamping multiple pages in a document at same time. Stamp location selectable such as lower right, upper left, etc, and can be sized. Stamps can then be relocated page-by-page to proper locations. This was available in early versions using Java script batch language. (Code lost).
3). Allow unknown font to be replaceable to common font (such as Ariel or Times) when selected using text select tool. This was available in version 4 (possibly others).
4). Allow text in text box to changed to different font or size or color. This was available in version 4 (possibly others).
5). Add keyboard shortcut for batch processing.

Some of that you have already, and some isn't there for a reason:
    1) Right-click any markup tool and choose "Keep tool selected".
    2) Still possible with JS, same as before. Use doc.addAnnot() in a loop.
    3) The text select tool (as opposed to the text edit tools) copies character data, so there's no concept of embedding a font in the clipboard - if you "Copy with Formatting" to include the RTF definitions, and a typeface isn't present on the user's system, it's up to the application into which the data is pasted to decide what do do about it. When editing the text inside the PDF, Acrobat does indeed substitute for missing fonts.
    4) Tools Pane > Content > Add or Edit text Box. Still the same Typewriter controls as last time - font, size, color, everything.
    5) There is no longer a batch processing workflow in Acrobat. Operations on multiple files are performed by Actions, for which there are no keyboard shortcuts as the entries are all user-definable.

  • CC for Linux with Sun Studio 12 gets Signal 11 parsing gtk.h

I just install SunStudio 12 on a Fedora 7 Linux box, and it appears it can not compile
even the simplest gtk application written in C++.

while processing /usr/include/gtk-1.2/gtk/gtk.h at line 1.
tstgtk.cc only contains the one line
    #include <gtk/gtk.h>
The same command works if I replace the CC with lowercase suncc or with g++.

This is probably different problem since the one mentioned above is in compiler's front end, which shouldn't depend on target architecture option, which from what I know affects back end only.
Can you post source code of hello.cc here so that we can reproduce it?

From the testing I did, it appears to have these problems for most of the C++ programs I have written, especially the ones that involve object oriented programming. All programs that I wrote do not have these problems with g++ or Sun CC for Solaris. It does however work fine only for small fraction of the programs I have written. I dont quite understand why it works in some cases and others it doesnt, but I know for sure, that it should be working for all cases when Sun CC from Sun Studio 10 on Solaris 10 for X86 has no problems compiling the same programs.

Can someone please respond? There is more to the problem. Perhaps
there are more glibc headers that have problems. In addition, if Sun wants to port the Sun Studio Compilers for linux to be stable on all linux distributions I suggest using VM ware and installing several linux distrobutions as virtual machines and testing this software on each virtual machine to see the problems that occur on each distribution. That way you might be able to uncover more problems to find a solution that will work best for portability on all linux distributions.

  • Sun Studio 11 with Rational ClearCase (for its VCS)

I'm trying to use Sun Studio 11 with Rational ClearCase.
IMHO, it is possible to use ClearCase in it as a VCS,
because an error message in Sun Studio 11 indicated http://vcsgeneric.netbeans.org/profile/ to add external VCS support.
    Then, my questions are...
    1. Is it possible to use Rational ClearCase for the VCS?
    2. If it is possible, which module do I have to get from the site
    (http://vcsgeneric.netbeans.org/profiles/)?
    3. How to Install it into Sun Studio 11?
    Thanks in advance.

First of all - Sun Studio IDE is shipped without Clear Case support,
and there is no official way to add this feature. Technically it is possible
to add a plugin module, compatible with NetBeans 3.5, which will
provide Clear Case support, but it is not a supported configuration.
So it is not recommended to experiment with a Sun Studio installation,
which is used in real job. The answers below are mostly my guess,
because we did not try Sun Studio with Clear Case.
    1. Is it possible to use Rational ClearCase
for the VCS?Yes, I think there is a ClearCase plugin module for Netbeans 3.5:
    http://vcsgeneric.netbeans.org/profiles/index.html
    2. If it is possible, which module do I have to get
    from the site
    (http://vcsgeneric.netbeans.org/profiles/)?
    I think this one:
    http://vcsgeneric.netbeans.org/files/documents/67/117/clearcase-profile.nbm
. How to Install it into Sun Studio 11?You have to be able to write to the installation tree, which means you
have to be root, or you have to change access modes. This module
will be installed in /opt/netbeans/3.5V11/ directory, so this directory
and its subdirectories should be writable for you. You have to start
Netbeans using script /opt/netbeans/3.5V11/ bin/runide.sh, and
upgrade it with the new plugin module. I can provide more details,
but I want to repeat again, that this is unsupported configuration,
so if you want to try it on your own system as an experiment -
let me know, I'll describe the process in details.
    Sorry about this problem.
    Thanks,
    Nik
