Suggestions:  alternatives to Slide Show Pro?

Hi, I have Slide Show Pro (with Director) and I like it -- but before formatting my entire site around it, does anyone suggest any alternative slide show programs of comparable quality?
Is there any robust presentation program that interfaces directly with Aperture (like SSP does with Adobe Lightroom?)
Thanks for your tips!

Hi, thanks a lot for the input. Fotomagico looks very nice -- the only thing I'm unclear on is whether it essentially exports just linear videos, or if the web user can manually advance to the next photo, go back, pause the show, etc.; all while keeping a music bed playing. (these are the things I like about Slideshow Pro...)
Also, it appears that you can't have thumbnail navigation to the side or below to jump to a shot?
Thanks again for your help!

Having difficulty with inserting a SWF created by Light Room - Flash Gallery; I used the Slide Show Pro pluging and exported the Album to a folder. I tried insert>media>swf> and selected each of the swf files in the folder but none of them would play.
I have previously uploaded the SSP folder directly into a folder on my site and it works fine there. Dreamweaver just doesn't seem to invoke the slide show with the method I've been attempting.

  • Action Script Newbie has problem with Slide Show Pro

    Hi,
here is a demo page -
    http://www.libertypromotions.com/asptest/newsite/cars/product_page.htm.
The flash gallery in the top left is my problem child. I am
using Slide Show pro to display my images but I want to add some
external buttons that will switch albums when you click them (all
images are in there own album, giving me the Grid effect when you
click see all) I have asked for help on how to do this on their
forums, but they are useless (so far) so I came here. Below is the
code SSP provides for external Next/Previous buttons that switch
    images inside albums.
I am hoping someone here knows SSP well enough to help me
    with this.
    Thanks in advance.

    cowenstx,
Javascript is VERY different from Java. Your code example is Javascript, a scripting language invented by Netscape. Do a web search for "javascript images" for lots of good pointers.

  • Suggestions for the Slide Show.

I waited until the 1.0.2 release hoping some of these features might have been incorporated.
Just a few small changes would make the Slide Show feature a real "Show Stopper".
    * That annoying "PLAY" sign which appears (always over the most important central part of the image) for virtually the full duration of the first slide - can it please be moved to the top, bottom or a corner?
    * Similarly, the "Caption Full" feature covers a significant chunk of the image. Why not instead, include the label and rating info in the "Caption Compact" display at the bottom left?
    * Related to this, when hitting C to change back to "Caption Compact" the announcement (right in the centre of the screen) is totally unnecessary.
    * Can we have the ability to change the background colour and/or add a narrow contrasting border to the image?
    * Can the images be set to fade from one to another rather than simply jump as they do now?
    * When the slide show is instigated for (say) Green Labels only, can changing the label to (say) red eliminate that slide from the sequence?
The addition of these features would turn Bridge into a full-fledged previewing application for professional photographers and studios.
    Chris.

    > * That annoying "PLAY" sign which appears (always over the most important
    > central part of the image) for virtually
    > the full duration of the first slide - can it please be moved to the top,
    > bottom or a corner?
Seconded. I was thinking that a H keyboard shortcut instead of only (H)elp
Text could act as a (H)ide button too. That is: when any info text is
already displayed on top of the image pressing H for the first time would
hide that text, and for the second time, would show Help Text.
    Couple of other ideas:
    1. A keyboard shortcut to edit (in PS or CameraRAW) current slideshow image.
This is one of the strangest omissions. Maybe Return could act as one
instead of cloning already available Next Image behaviour?
    2. Hide mouse pointer when in fullscreen mode.
    3. Better mouse navigation: Now Left and Right mouse buttons both act as
Next Image, Middle Button and wheel are unoccupied. How about: Left Button -
Next Image, Right Button - Previous Image, Double-click - Edit Image or
maybe Exit Slideshow, Wheel to navigate through images back and forth
_without_pausing_the_slideshow (as opposed to other < & > shortcuts which
_pauses_ current slideshow - sometimes I want to go back to last image for a
while without pausing the slideshow. Or maybe sacrifice right (and
consequently left) mouse button navigate ability for having proper context
    menu with image specific commands?
    4. I'm not sure about this one since the slideshow window could act
independent entity but what about synchronizing slideshow with normal view -
the last image of the slideshow would be selected in Bridge after exiting
the slideshow. What do you think?
    5. Currently slideshow uses only previews instead of real image data so it
could be fast. But that prevents it from abilities such as viewing images at
100% (and more) magnification and e.g. showing histogram for the image. How
about _an_option_ in slideshow to use real image data (slower but with
benefits of having Zoom Tool from PS with it's respective keyboard shortcuts
    and maybe a histogram palette?).
    6. 1.02 added _nice_ ability to have fullscreen slideshow on the second
monitor. Thank you. This is controlled by initial placement of Bridge before
entering the slideshow. That is: when you invoke slideshow when Bridge is on
the second monitor - it will play on it. How about: slideshow would fill the
second monitor as well in situation when you pressed W with slideshow
_window_ being on the second monitor?
    7. How about remembering and restoring the last size and placement of the
slideshow _window_? When pressing W and when entering new slideshow.

  • Song suggestions for a slide show...

I'm making a highlight reel for my little brother (who has just finished his first varsity football season). It will be composed of mostly pictures and some video, so far I have the song tick tick boom by the hives selected. I'd like 2 more 'pump up' songs like that one to throw into the video. It will be for private use only (my little present to him for finishing the season strong), I would love any suggestions you guys could make. Thanks.

  • Just want to do slide shows

Ok. I did a web site in go live. I added slide shows
that i did in iPhoto. The slide show files are too big.
I was told they need to be Flash so that they will load
quickly. I bought Flash, I bought two books but all i want to do is
get these slide shows to play on my web site. Nowhere in any of the
books is there any discussion about something as simple as making
slide show into a flash that I can then put on my web site.
    Help Please!!!!!

I really like Slide Show Pro (
    http://www.slideshowpro.net).
This is a $25 component for Flash.
Needs Flash, you drop the component on the stage, adjust the
component settings to taste and you're done.
It reads your slide show galleries from an external XML file
which is simple to code by hand and there are many tools to be able
to create it you don't want to code it.
Sounds like you don't know much about Flash or ActionScript
so this still might be a little out of your league, though.

I keep saying this over and over, in the hope that people who do a search will find it.  Apple cannot possibly test for or be reponsible for the bazillion combinations of adapter, cables, and TV's out there.  The only monitors that are 100% guaranteed to work with the MacBook Pro are the Cinema Displays and Thunderbolt Displays, because, they're made by Apple.  They're expensive, but they work perfectly.
My guess is that you bought a cheap MDP to HDMI cable, or have a defective one.  From my reading of these boards over the past few months, cheap cables have a high failure rate.  And the regular priced ones have only a slightly less of one.  Try a new one.  Make sure you do not damage the Thunderbolt port.

  • Help? Dvd Studio Pro 3 (Slide show) Glitch?

I'm new to mac's, and am currently in the process of upgrading at work to the computer editing side of things, but I'm having problems with creating a slide show in DVD SP3.
My system i'm creating the slide show on is a Power Mac G5, OS 10.4.5
The problem is that in the simulator, everything seems to be fine with how it transitions through the images (I'm using standard dissolves)... but, when I take the burnt dvd and play it on dvd burner/players (normal units with the tv, I've tried 3 dvd players so far), I get some weird shifting in the images, so it plays fine for a second or two, then looks like it's whacked out of focus slightly. It seems random to me... My first thought was that it had something to do with the dissolves... but sometimes it starts right in the middle of the image.
(I'd tried finding this exact problem on the forum, but am still baffled.) I tried saving the slide show as a track as well, but it still does it. The weird thing, is that on some systems it seems worse than others. However because this is something my work is offering to customers, I am left with trying to find some way of fixing this problem.
    Any help is greatly appreciated...

As drew suggested, if your having issues with the slideshow side of DVD SP, then bring your slides into Final Cut Pro and assemble them there, (with the transistions of your choice.
Export them out as a self-contained Quicktime movie and encode that movie into a Mpeg2 file. Import that file into DVD SP, (author your project in DVD SP and burn to disk.) All of the issues with things not looking the way they should, will have gone away.
Apple really hasn't dealt with the scalling issues in DVD SP, which is what is causing the shifts, in the transistions of Slideshow presentations. You will also see this shifting issue, when creating your own tumbnail buttons, using Mpeg 2 movie footage (from your project) and let DVD SP scale it to the button size your created, (it just looks wrong.)
This is why most of this scalling is done outside of DVD SP, in other programs and then brought into DVD SP.

  • Final cut pro crashing with slide show photos

I am working with a large slide show - a few movie clips, but mostly still images from Aperture.  The photos were shot wtih a Nikon D300 in Raw, not that I think that matters much at all.
Becasue this is a slide show I am working wth short durations for the images - usually 3:14.  Most of the transitions are simply cross dissolve, but some are more complex.
I am getting again and again crashes - or the spinning color circle going to oblivion and requiring a Force Quit.
Either can happen when adding new material, moving arround existing material, or trying to reset durations, add text, different transitions, or working wth the Ken Burns options.  Sometimes it also happens when resizing the time line zoom level.   This marvelous feature seems the most consistent way of trashing the application so I tend to leave it alone.
I may be able to work for an hour or only a few minutes.  Sometimes deleting and re-adding an image seems to help, but that may not be true - most of the time it's just simply random.   The system has 14 Gig Ram and I am using iCleanMemory now to see how much is in play.  A crash / freeze may occur with a lot or a little - usually looks like I have about 8.9 Gig in play for normal use of Final Cut and no clear change when it crashes / freezes.
Clearly the images are compatible - they are from Aperture and there is no consistency in always the same image being the issue.
Below is the first part of the error report dump.
Hoping someone has an idea for how to overcome this.
    Appreciate the thoughts.
    Cheers -
    Dan

Well, I filmed many of those videos in HDV (the 2x2 wall, the 5x5 wall and some of the 10x10 wall). Plus I converted the whole project to HDV because it is the way I displayed it (thru camera to Plasma TV's) and I wanted the HD space to work with and since part of my videos were HDV I figured that would be best.
Of course the DV footage is not so good quality, but when made very small for that big screen it looks fine I think. Yeah the AIC codec is great but it takes 4 times as much room, but you think that would work better hey?
I just don't want Final Cut crashing like that. I don't care if it can't play it back in real time or it takes 10 seconds to display 1 frame.
I have not used motion....would it work for what I did. Remember I used over 100 discreet video streams I had. I don't want to replicate the same layer...you get the drift.
Did you see it in youtubes HD? What did you think of the quality?

    Hi jackwyatt,
Thanks for visiting Apple Support Communities.
If you would like to connect your MacBook Pro to a projector to output the display and sound, the cables and adapters you need will vary depending on the specific model MacBook Pro that you have.
I recommend this page for getting a good idea of which adapters you might need:

Go to sounds in system pref and select outputs. When the hdmi cable is plug into the tv it will show as an option under output. Just select that option.

  • Creating a Slide show in Quicktime Pro

    Hi all,
I have over 400 hundred images that I need to run into Quicktime for a slide show presentation. I tried IDVD and it just hangs up when I try to burn the disc.
Now I'm trying Quicktime Pro. I created a folder with the 400+ images named in sequence 1,2,3....
Choose File-Open Image Sequence and selected the first image.
Then Saved file as a Quicktime movie. It brought in the one selected picture. Now, how do I get the rest of the images into the movie without having to click and drag everyone of them? Is there a any kind of automation to bring the rest in. Maybe I missed something. I'm working on a Mac G4 Laptop, Tiger and just purchased Quicktime Pro thinking it would do the job. IMovie is not an option because the images come in too pixelated.
Thanks for any help on a quick way of doing this.
    Cheryl
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.2.x)

Problem solved. It seems that there is, indeed, a rather strict file naming convention. My original filenames began 1,2,3, etc...but with more information behind that which was seperated by an underscore. I took all of that out and renamed the files using only single digit filenames in sequence and that seemed to work and I also took out the extention--I don't know if that matters or not; but it works now. I'm on my way to the IDVD forum because this might be the reason I couldn't burn an IDVD as well. You wouldnt happen to know if IDVD has similar querks? BTW I'm using a Mac G4 Laptop OS 10.4.6
I'd say my Quicktime problem is solved at any rate.
Thanks so much for your help!

  • Picture Slide Show - Macbook Pro with retina display

Is the Macbook Pro with retina display capable of doing picture slide shows with music, or do I have to purchase additional software?

The only benefit that the Retina has over the standard MacBook Pro is the display.  It is slightly thinner (and lighter), but with the 13" model, the difference is fairly minimal.  If you're comfortable carrying the Retina, you'd be fine carrying the MB Pro as well.  Also, for all intents and purposes, while the display on the standard MB Pro is not a Retina display, it is still one of the best displays on the market and will easily provide a better image quality than most displays in similarly classed laptops.  Another thing to consider is that both the 13" Retina and standard MBP have only an integrated HD4000 GPU.  This is a fairly low power graphics processor built into the CPU.  It can easily run the display on the standard MB Pro, but it can sometimes struggle with the Retina as there are several times more pixels to drive.
    So...
13" MacBook Pro Retina:  Fantastic display, slightly thinner/lighter
13" MacBook Pro: Not at the same level as the Retina, but still an excellent display.  Slightly thicker, but as you said, you get an optical drive as well.  Memory and storage are easily upgradable.  As Kappy mentioned, the get a faster processor as well.
