Suggestions consolidating iTunes accounts, home media network

Hello, I am not exactly sure where to post this, but much may revolve around iTunes store, etc, so I thought I would try here first. Really looking for advice, sorry for the long entry.
I am in the process of trying to reorganize, simplify and set up a nice home media/storage network for my wife and I (and kids as they get older) the opportunity to basically use and sync any of our devices/computers so that we all have access to a main music library, movies, etc. Here are my main questions, and the scenario ...
I have my own iMac
Wife has Mac Air
Have Apple TV2
Will each be getting our own iPod Touch
Airport Extreme currently used for home wifi network
External drive connected to Airport Extreme to store all/everyone's media?
My initial thought is this could function well as a media storage hub that all our networked devices could pull from? Or maybe there is a better option, setup that I'm not thinking of?
Consolidating two individual iTunes Libraries/accounts to one main one?
What is the best/cleanest approach? My wife and I each have our own, but are find merging if it is recommended. Is it recommended that my wife or I change one of our accounts/ids so we both now purchase off the same apple id? Then just combine our two separate libraries onto an external drive hooked to our Airport Extreme, and use that as a main media collection? Can that external drive then be accessed by the Apple TV as well as our personal computers? Or what if the kids down the road want their own account, if you don't use a single apple id to purchase content, is it difficult to have a central media driver with everyone's content?
For eventual syncing into iCloud?
Is it recommended that we put all devices (whether hers, mine, or kids) to the same Apple ID so all devices have access to all the same material? I'll admit I don't know much about iCloud yet, so this might be a basic question. Or maybe there are still ways to sync all devices even if through different ID accounts so the family doesn't feel I'm 'in complete control' ? Is media stored on an external drive for the network able to sync or be used in the same way by the iCloud service?
I'll probably have more questions, I hope these made sense, and again, sorry for the wordiness. Maybe its a simple setup, but if anyone has the interest or time to lend some advice on what has worked well for them, I'm all ears. Thank you!
Mark

Might be you need to do some settings on NAS..Try resetting the NAS and try to reconfigure again.

  • Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive contents not appearing in iTunes

I'm running iTunes 10.5.1 on my MacBook which is running OS X 10.6.8
I've got an iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive ( http://tinyurl.com/l8jmaa ) NAS hooked up to my home intranet, and I use it as the master repository for all my music for iTunes, as I've got multiple computers in the house, and the device (with iTunes and DLNA activated) will show up in the "Shared" section of my iTunes source list, and I can view and play all my music from there.
Sometime over the course of the last few iTunes updates, however, this functionality broke, and I'm not sure why.  The device shows up in the "Shared" section still, but when I click on it, iTunes shows a message on its screen that says "Loading "Iomega-0557fc" (yeah yeah, I didn't give my drive a spiffy name, I just stuck with the stock out-of-the-box name) and gives me the horixzontal cady-cane, and the little circle spinner spins away to the right of the device in the source list, but iTunes never actually completes the task of bringing up an index of the drive.
The drive itself is fully functional.  All the settings are proper on it, I can move data on and off from the Finder, I can even drag-and-drop music files from the NAS in the Finder into iTunes and the files will add to playlists and play just fine (I've got "Copy files to iTunes Media Folder..." turned off, so I know they're playing from the NAS) so it's not like there's some kind of malfuction on the NAS itself.  I've also made sure I've got the latest firmware updates and such.
I'm sure I'm not the only one with one of these drives, and I'm hoping someone else has encountered this issue and figured it out!  Any help is appreciated!

Hi , I have similar problem..It was working initially and for some reason it stopped. I device shows up on the SHARED , however when I click it doesnt load the songs..however I am able to stream songs from Iomega NAS via other DLNA clients (ace player etc in ipad)...

    Hello dhanse_k,
For something like this, there really isn't much that I can help with here.
I'm limited to giving advice and that isn't going to help if you have a verified IP that's not granting access to the UI.
I recommend starting a support ticket here:
    https://lenovo-ap-en.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/18133/session/L3RpbWUvMTM2NjU5MDgxMS9zaWQvSEtSbjZqb2w%3D#phone
It sounds like your NAS is having issues with Apache and starting a support ticket will enable an agent to assist you with that.

  • Can two separate iTunes accounts home share music?

Can two separate iTunes accounts home share music? I load music on my mothers iPod nano and my brother would like to load music onto her iPod also. Would there be a problem and what would be the process?

Yes you can set up homesharing on more than one library to be shared with other devices, just use the same homesharing ID and password on all of them.

  • "Home Media Network Hard Drive - Cloud Edition": what is it?

I have a "Home Media Network Hard Drive - Cloud Edition".
I want to update the firmware (actually, I already did, but may have made a mistake).
When I go to the support page https://lenovo-na-en.custhelp.com/app/subproduct/p/1031 I find that there are two choices that have names similar to my unit's, but not identical.
Is one of these actually the same as my model?  If so, which?  If not, how do I get support for my model?  Why isn't this clear?
PS: These names are awkward, long, and confusing.  So long that I could not put all of them in the Subject.  Too late to change them now.

    Hello HughR
See the below hotlinks for a picture confirmation of each device.
If the Home Media (Network Hard Drive) Cloud Edition (HMNHDII) is your device, then you would want to follow the firmware update guide from here.
If you have the Home Media Network Hard drive (HMNHD) then you should follow the firmware update guide from here.
From your post it seems you have the Home Media CE, the second generation of home media NAS.  The " Home Media Cloud Edition " link would be the correct link to access the support page for the device.
The names are long, hence the abbreviation from "Home Media Network Hard Drive - Cloud Edition" to just "Home Media Cloud Edition"
    Hope this all helps!

  • Can't access Iomega Home Media Network HD from my MacBook Air

    Hello,
I recently bought a MacBook Air that is currently running OS X 10.8.4. This is my first MacBook.
I have an Iomega Home Media Network Hard Drive, but I can't connect to it. I downloaded their most recent software for Mac (the LSM client for Mac OS 10.6-10.8, version 1.4.3.9580), but keep getting a message saying "The version of the server you are trying to connect is not supported" when I try to access my files from my Mac.
I tried to find the answers from Lenovo, who bought the Iomega, but their support seems very poor and I wasn't able to reach anyone about it since my warranty has expired.
I was wondering if some one could please guide me to find a solution to this problem.
Thank you so much in advance!

Preferably, get rid of that junky device. If you don't want to do that, see below.

  • WRT54G2 and Iomega Home Media Network HDD

So I am on my second HDD with Iomega. I am thinking now that this is a router problem rather than a HDD problem. I have a 1TB Iomega home media network drive, eversince I bought my router and began using it I have been unable to use my HDD. It is hard wired to the router via RJ-45 cable and both units have been reset and powered up in about every order you can imagine. I have reset factory defaults on the router and made security changes to ensure there was nothing blocking that port. I am at wits end. I cannot connect to the HDD and the drive flashes yellow and blue indicating it cannot estabilsh or receive an IP address from the router. Can anone help me with this. The drive has already been replaced once after the same symptoms occurred previously. Any help is appreciated.

    Per the Iomega support site:
How do I find the Home Media Network Hard Drive on my network?
Install the Iomega Home Storage Manager software. Once the installation completes, the Iomega Home Storage Manager icon will appear in the system tray (Windows) or Menu Bar (Mac) and your computer will automatically be connected to the Home Media drive's shared folders.
NOTE: If no DHCP server is found on your network the Home Media Drive will get the self-assigned IP address 169.254.55.82.
NOTE: The Iomega Home Storage Manager will automatically scan your network and connect to available shared folders. If you receive a message from your operating system's firewall alerting you of network activity, click the unblock button.
Mac Users: The Iomega Home Media drive's shared folders should mount and appear on the Mac Desktop.
PC Users: The Iomega Home Media drive's shared folders will automatically be assigned a drive letter and will be available in the Network Drives section under My Computer.
Also see the User Manual for the drive or the Iomega online support site.
The network drive has a menu system to allow the user to configure the network settings for the drive.  Log into the drive per the User Manual directions and check the Network settings to ensure the Automatic (DHCP) is enabled. When this option is enabled it should pull an IP address from the router.
One other option is to configure the IP setting to Manual in the Network page on the network drive and input an IP address (Static IP Address) outside of the IP addresses the router will hand out via its DHCP server. You would also have to fill out any additional settings for the Manual option. So for example if the router is configured for IP address of 192,16.1.1, and a starting DHCP IP address of xxx.xxx.xxx.100 and a Maximum Number of DHCP Users of 50 than set the network drive's IP address to 192.168.1.200, or any ending IP number between 151 and 254, or between 2 and 99. That way it won't conflict with the router's DHCP address assignments and it will always have the same IP address.

  • Iomega Home media network drive & Time machine backups

First timer guys, so go easy. :-)
I have macbook pro. Upgraded from Snow Leopard to Lion couple of days ago. I have Iomega Home media network drive NAS box which I had setup for Leopard and my backups via time machine were working perfectly. I could also mount the shares on the Iomega box on my macbook. Post upgrade to Lion, I can access the shares on my MAC (over smb) but backups not working anymore. Apparently Lion requires shares to be accessible over afp only. I have confirmed Iomega box is compatible with smb as well as afp shares and I even tried manually mounting those shares using command, still no luck.
Command I'm trying to mount afp shares & the error -
    bash-3.2# mkdir -p /mnt/backups
    bash-3.2# mount_afp afp://username:[email protected]/backups /mnt/backups
mount_afp: AFPMountURL returned error -5019, errno is -5019
    bash-3.2# echo $?
    101
    bash-3.2#
Can't see any references to this error. I see few links that ask to carry out some clumsy steps to sort this out. That's not working either for me.
On a sidenote, why mac doesn't have /etc/fstab? Any alternatives?
Appreciate any kind of help here.
    Cheers.

    Hello jarmin2411
A factory reset from the web interface would correct this sort of issue.  However I suspect that using the pin-hole reset button should also be able to clear the issue as it seems to be a network configuration issue.  The network settings may have become corrupt during the update.   Using the device reset button

  • I have two different iTunes accounts - home and work. Need to merge them.

I have a work account and a home account and both have music in them. I am pretty sure they have the same login and password, but they still register as the different content. How do I get them to merge, as all the content is mine.

How do I get them to merge, as all the content is mine.
Locate all the content in the Windows Explorer, move it to the other computer as you would any files, and drag it into the open iTunes application window. Rented movies can't be moved this way.
Each purchase from the iTunes Store other than applications only grants you one download to a computer. Even with applications, you need to redownload it again, which is a separate process from installing and setting up iTunes.

  • What is best way for 3 person family to share 200 gb music on 1 itunes account on two networked windows 7 PCs, have access to each others music on each PC but have own libraries. Goal is simplicity

Currently, one windows 7 pc is upstairs in common area and is used most frequently.  Father's (me) windows 7 pc is downstairs and has 200gb music collection on internal hardrive.  PCs are networked together.  Wife and kids would like to buy and listen to itunes music upstairs.  They would be ok sharing a music library and it would not need to be huge.  They generally, but not exclusively don't care for my music.  I am eclectic and like their music as well as mine and would like access to it to be able to easily put it on my devices for family trips, etc and update playlists.
Ideally, I would like to be able to keep all of the music together on the same hard drive for managament purposes (organizing, replacing a computer, etc).  I don't trust them not to screw up my library (too many hours invovled in it already), so I'm assuming that they should have their own libraries.  These they would access upstairs and would also sync their devices on the upstairs computer.  I think both their libraries could be pointed to the harddrive on the downstairs computer where the music files currently reside.  When they played music from the upstairs computer, it would play from the downstairs computer across the network.  If they purchase music on the upstairs computer, I would like it to get downloaded on the downstairs computer with the other music files and not be downloaded onto the upstairs computer.  I would like to be able to rely on my library and the music files not getting messed up.  If friends and babysitters come over, they use the upstairs computer.  We've had a disaster before when it was just one computer, but the music was on an external hard drive and my wife launched itunes without turning on the external hard drive first and fried my library.
The best I can come up with is their having their own libraries, on the upstairs computer, that reference all music files on the downstairs computer over the network.  Am I on the right track here?  How do I make sure their purchases go into and only into the music file downstairs?  Is there some other better option of having a separate itunes on the upstairs computer and storing their music separately upstairs?  How would I make sure to get copies of their music files from the upstairs computer also into my large music file downstairs, so I can keep one comprehensive collection of music all in one file.  This seems like it shouldn't be so very difficult in the 21st century.  I ought to be able to keep one comprehensive music file and one comprehensive library, even though my wife and child, who are less computer literate than me would like smaller, more personalized libraries and to purchase music on the convenient upstairs computer and even store their music on the upstairs computer accross a network.  I the old days, you could just dupe some of the CDs.  HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  My wife is tired of waiting on me to resolve.

  • Can't copy any file to/from iomega 1TB home media network CE other than through FTP

Hi, since few days ago I can't copy any file to or from iomega using Windows Explorer on my PC or any file explorer ony my android phone. I can acces the drive but when I try to copy something to the drive, a 'copying'  window pops up  and shows "estimating" in ETA and often freezes. Same goes with my phone, it just shows 0B/s as speed. I can however copy files to/from using ftp connection. Do you have any ideas what's wrong? I didn't change anything, it just stopped working. Also, will factory reset delete all data from the drive? EDIT. Turns out I can only copy FROM the drive using ftp. So at this point there is no way for me to move anything to the nas.

    Hello naat1,
With the majority of support incidents I have dealt with, odd behavior like this can usually be attributed to a failing drive.
The firmware runs on the drive, so, if it is beginning to fail it can cause unexpected behavior.
I would backup anything from the NAS that you wish to keep, then run the factory reset (it is data destructive), and then try to re-load the NAS.

  • IOMEGA home media network hard drive security issue - admin password bypass

Some time ago I analysed the http traffic between the above and firefox so that I could automate the restart process because I wanted to restart the drive about once a week overnight.  This I achieved by writing a simple python program and it seemed to work ok but I stopped doing it after a short while.  Many months later I have returned to this and found that the conversation has changed.  The redirection that used to occur has gone and I can now restart my drive without the need for a valid administrator password and I have done this both from a computer on my lan and also via an external  no-ip free dns domain name.  Note that any attempt to access the drive via a browser still requires a valid password.  My original drive was at firmware level 2.063 and this one (a replacement under warranty) is at 2.064.
Has anyone come across this problem and has anyone any idea how to fix it?
Happy to post my python code if required.

Thank you for the reply.  I followed your advice.  I guess the upgrade worked ok because the device now says its at the right level, it removed the admin password (which I then re-instated) and a robots.txt file has appeared in the FTP folder.  However, a couple of things didn't work as advertised:
    1. When I tried to turn on remote access it just hung and I had to reboot the device.  It subsequently resolved itself after a couple of reboots and when I wasn't looking.
    2. When I tried to access the folders through a browser I was presented with a greyed-out 'public' user, for which I did not have a password, and this only resolved itself when I added a new user, which led to another problem ...
    3. I cleared the passwords on a couple of users because I wanted to change them.  No way could I get a prompt for a new password - followed the instructions in the manual - so I ended up deleting them and recreating them from scratch.
Now then, has this fixed my original problem?  Not really.  The situation is that when remote access is enabled then my program in its current form doesn't work (but I would need to see if I could make it work).  If remote access is disabled and I get my router to port-forward, say 8000, as 80 to the iomega then my program still works fine and I can do a restart or shutdown without the admin password.
Obviously now that I have this program worked out I can go on to do other admin tasks remotely.
I'd appreciate any further ideas you might have.
