Suggestions...CS3 Freezing as I attempt to open a file? Using XP home edition.

This happens repeatedly as I open the program and attempt to open a file. The "open file" dialog box flashes for a split second then disappears and the Photoshop program freezes up.
Any suggestions are most appreciated. - lin

It's been a long time since I used Windows XP, but the application you're looking to run is the Windows Event Viewer, then you want to work down into the Application or System Logs and see if anthing there gives you some idea of what might be going wrong.
I also don't remember whether XP had the System Restore facility, but if so you might check to see if you can restore your system configuration back to a few weeks ago, when Photoshop was working.
Did you install anything that augments or changes the interface to Windows Explorer since the time Photoshop worked?

  • Numbers freezes when I attempt to open a file from the iCloud

    Hello,
My Numbers app for my iMac freezes when I attempt to open a spreadsheet file from the iCloud.  These same files open fine on my iPad, and I make sure to close Numbers on my iPad before I attempt to open the file on my iMac, but it makes no difference.  The app freezes, and I have to manually force stop the Numbers process.  Any help would be appreciated.

How do I get the dock to recognize the latest numbers version I have.
Go to the Applications folder, find Numbers 3 and drag it to the dock. It will then look like the lower icon here (the one with the 4 columns).
Another way is, if Numbers 3 is already open, to right-click the icon in the Dock and choose 'Keep in Dock' under 'Options':
You can drag the icon with the three columns off the Dock if you don't want to open Numbers 2 from the Dock.

You probably have not seen anyone reporting the exact same problem as you. All three crash reports have the same crash signature and as currently ranked 67 it is not the commonest of reasons for a crash.
I hope you enter your email contact information when reporting crashes. I note you see this crash when using videos, others may possibly see this crash in other circumstances.
You have already tried the obvious, attempts at a fix so it is now down to wait and see, maybe developers working on the bug will report something or fix it.
Did you try my suggestion of installing portable ESR ?

  • Ai CS4 keeps freezing when I try to open a file - HELP!!!

Mac OS X Tiger - Ai CS4 freezes when I try to open a file from either dbl-clicking on the file or opening within Ai. This happened all the time with Ai CS3 so I upgraded, now its happening with the new version. Do I need to allocate more memory to Ai?  If yes, how do I do that? I worked when I first installed, but now it will not allow me to open any of my files.  I do not receive an error message, and I have to force quit the app after it freezes. Can anyone help me with this problem?

Download OnyX, clean out your system caches and repair permissions. If it occurs in eitehr version of AI, it hardly qualifies for the usual trash the prefs, but of course that is never wrong, too...

  • CS3 Crashes when I try to open a file

Help, I'm working to a deadline and CS3 crashes on my Mac OS X, Version 10.5.1, everytime I try to open a file.
I've restarted the computer and tried reinstalling the program.
Anyone know what I can do?

I'm having a similar problem. Every time I attempt to open a file, any type any size, Photoshop Extended CS3 crashes. This is on a fresh install of OS X 10.5.1 on a MacBook Pro 2.33GHz 3GB ram. I've rebuilt preferences, thrown out Photoshop preference files, tried logging in as a new user, reinstalled the program. How can I access files from a flash drive that were previously saved using a Windows computer? When I attempt to open the file on MacBook Pro, it is asking to "convert file to"; none of the options I choose work. I also have Microsoft Office (with Word) installed on the Mac as well.

Format the external drive as FAT32 or ExFAT. Both computers will then be able to read and write to it.

All Office applications will also try to open a temporary work file in the same location as the source file. This implies the source file directory also needs to be writable for this temporary file. Since the default HFS+ driver provides only read-only access, such temporary files will fail to open, and will cause the application to fail.
As a test copy the file you want to edit, say an Excel spreadsheet from the OSX file system to the C: drive on the Windows side and try to open it. If you look in this directory, you should see two files, the source and a temporary file. You may have to force the temporary file to be opened on a read-write file system, by manipulating the folder for temporary files.

I get this error box when importing audio files into a logic session over my network.

The finder is capable of copying the files over to the local machine, at which point I can successfully import them into my local logic session, but Logic is incapable of doing the same. Strange and annoying.

If OS, can you try to create an *.exe file which would do the same thing?

  • Problem with Photoshop CS6. If I open a file using Camera RAW

I have a new problem with Photoshop CS6.  If I open a file using Camera RAW, and process it as usual, CS6 doesn't want to save it the way it used to.  I don't know if I changed something by accident or not.
Here's what happens now: After opening from ACR to CS6 and completinhg all of my work, I choose "Save as..."  The save as window opens showing the file name and format.  The default format seems to be .PSD.  I use the drop down to select .jpg.  The file saves normally as a .jpg.  When I go to close the image from, I get a new prompt asking, "Save changes to Adobe Photoshop document DSC_xxxx.NEF before closing?
I looked up at the file name in the bar above the work space and noticed that it does NOT change from "DSC_xxxx.NEF" to "DSC_xxxx.jpg" after I have saved the file as a .jpg,in my webesite  but it always used to do that.  This adds a few extra steps when closing a document and it really slows me down.
In fact, I wouldn't swear to this, but I think it used to save to .jpg by default, without me specifying this.
I don't see a setting in the preferences for what to use as the default file format for saving, so I don't know where to change it back.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance
