Suggestions for a good SATA PCI controller with RAID support

I would like to know what the best mac version is for the price, but I would also like to know if there is any way to use a MUCH cheaper made for the PC side. Many of them even say they support Linux but not Mac?!

Hi-
The following has a bunch of choices for you:
http://eshop.macsales.com/Search/Search.cfm?Criteria=SATA%20High%2DSpeed%20Contr oller%20Mac%20Cards&sort=a
The Sonnet 2 channel is currently the most economical.
As for the PC side, you can buy one and try, fail, buy another, etc., or just accept that you have a Mac, and that you need Mac compatible hardware.

  • [VIA] Cannot Boot From SATA PCI Controller With On Board RAID Enabled

    Hi.
I have a KT3 ULTRA 2 with onboard RAID controller. I have installed a SUNIX 2 port SATA PCI Controller which works perfectly & appears in the selectable boot devices.  This is not a problem except for the fact that I have 4 devices on the On-Board Raid Controller.  When the on-board raid controller is enabled, the SATA device dissapears from the boot options & I can no longer boot from the SATA controller.
    Any help is greatly appreciated.
    Many Thanks

    I had already tried that....
I set the boot sequence to use the SATA card & then renabled the on-board raid, but after reboot the sata card is not available as a possible boot device & asks me to insert system disk...even if the boot sequence is set to boot from other devices.
Really annoyying this, looks like I am going to have to get a different motherboard for something so silly.  I am already at the latest bios release.

  • Suggestion for a good button theme

    Hey,
Looking for a suggestion for a good button. I do not have access to Photoshop and all I am using is the ones that can with Studio Pro. It is just a plan white square. This is a Christian family movie so something more to the point of the theme might work.
    Any ideas?

  • Interested in other people's suggestions for a good feature

Hi, I'm Kerstin and I'm 2 years old. I li've in Cebu, Philippines, but I'm Swedish (originally from the wonderful city of Uppsala). I'm in the second term of my filmmaking degree at the International Academy of Film and Television[url="http://www.filmschool.ph">(IAFT)[/url]. Busy researching for my screen writing class. I'm interested in other peoples suggestions for a good feature. Always good to get together with like-minded folk.

    Hi Kerstin,
I also have some folks and friends back there and the place is great.Looking for a good feature?Hmmm...you could try the local folktale/s in there,I've heard a lot of it from old grandmas but dont know if it is true or not. It will be an exciting (scary?) one.

  • OT: Suggestions for a good Christmas green?

Way off-topic I know, but 'tis the season. :-)
I'm trying to figure a good Christmas green and am stuck in the hell of inaccurate screen representations (of course) and a crappy printer (two crappy printers actually -- one that prints way too dark and one that prints way too light).
Any suggestions on a CMYK value for a good Christmas green when I go to press?
    Thanks, Phyllis

    Hi Phyllis!
I am a print production manager, and find the following three mixes failsafe:
    95c 0m 100y 27k
    100c 0m 91y 42k
    100c 0m 95y 10k
They're all a little different in hue, but fall within that "holiday" green which should work well with reds.
    Hope this helps!
    Cheers,
    -Mikey

  • Suggestion for a Good Book

    Hi,
Could someone suggest me a good book covering core java security (not J2EE)?. I'm looking for a book that covers all security related APIs that are part of Java 2 SDK 1.3.x + JSSE + JCE + JAAS or Java 2 SDK 1.4.x.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks.

I've a book called "Professional Java Security",
by Jess Garms and Daneil Somerfield, published by Wrox press.
I've used it to dip my toes into the Java Cryptography extension, and
it was very good. I got a TripleDES encryption utility working reasonably easy.
Also covers JCA, JCE, JAAS, JSSE, SSL and E-Commerce.
    regards,
    Owen

  • Need suggestion for a good scanner/inkjet photo printer

I would like to be able to scan in photos to edit and also print photos.
Most of all, I want the ability to print two-sided (manual or automatic).
Of course, I'd also like it to print decent photos as well.
Any suggestions? (It seems the Mac software for certain printers isn't as good as the Windows version of the printer software)

Epson, Canon, Kodak are all good printers. they all have their own good software that will satisfy most requirements.
I did not mention HP because of their inadequate support and the unbelievable number of printer types (models) they have on the market that are not supported.
Your biggest problems are going to be:
    1 Compatibility with Leopard.
    2. Meaningful support from vendor.
    3. Cost of Ink refills.
All three items above, especially Items 2 and 3 made me lean toward Kodak.
    look at them

  • Suggestions for an external HD to use with my AirPort Extreme?

I have a fairly new APE (6 months old or so), and I want to purchase an external HD for use as a backup/sharing device on my network.  I have a MBP running ML, a PC desktop (win XP), and a PC laptop (win 7).
It will be a stand alone unit at part of the network, and plugged into the APE, but when configured, I'd like to be able to access the files stored there with any of the computers I have.
I do not anticipate having to plug the ext HD directly into any of the computers, except in an extreme emergency.
Would a HD like a WD MyBook do, formatted either for the PC or the Mac?  Does the HD need to be formatted one way or the other for maximun compatibility?
I dont intend to buy a "portable" HD to do the job.  It will be connected full time to the network.
I've never used Time Machine before as a backup tool, nor any other backup software.  Primarily, the backup will be of my photos, and a few documents.
If I have a system  crash, I can and will reinstall the OS, whatever computer dies.
I've not got much experience with network HD backup, but I figure it's about time.
Sorry if my questions are a bit lame, or if this has been covered in some kind of tutorial somewhere else.  Please direct me to that link if it has.
Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated!!
    DJ

    Thank you for your reply.
I have been looking at the WD MyBook Studio as an option in my system.  Not so much because it is Mac compatible out of the box, but more because I like the idea of the metal enclosure, for durability and heat dissapation.
I have heard and seen reviews where many external drives can be noisy as well.  I'm not so concerned with noise during a backup or a file transfer, but I dont think I could tolerate constant noise.
I have a APE, 802.11n, Model MD031LL/A that I intend to plug my external drive into.  I may or may not just do basic "copy and pastes" of files and such, at least until I find a backup plan that is somewhat automated and hands-free.
For now, anyway, I have nothing of importance stored on my MBP, so using Time Machine might not be a factor as a backup solution for my MBP.
An overwhelming majority of my files will be JPEG, RAW, along with Word and Excel files (from both my MBP and PC).  I do not have any Mac-exclusive formatted files on my MBP.
I try to be careful when saving and storing files to allow for max compatibility on both platforms.  As an aside, if there is a good tutorial about this topic (file-saving and compatibility), I'd love a link if you can share.
I would be willing to reformat the external drive if it meant better, cross platform compatibility and performance.  In the back of my head, I have this idea about getting the MyBook Studio, and reformatting as necessary.
I know this idea sounds a bit fussy, but I just want to get a quiet, solid desktop external drive, that I can just sort of buy, configure and forget (in a manner of speaking)
Plus, I dont want to waste $100-$150 bucks making a poor HD choice.
    Further suggestions?
    Thanks,
    DJ

  • Suggestions for optimal solution to load application with dynaminc view

    Hi Experts,
I have a Web service which is providing me data from database as well as data which will help to create UI of the view.
In my view i have to ceate tabs in a tabstrip. Number of tabs are dynamic depending on data from web service. In each tab i have to create tables with dynamic columns and some additional text views and edits. Now, tabs and columns of tables, coming from web service are in random order and i need to sort the tabs and tables depending on values filled in a database table. this database table is like a configuration table.
Creating view in a random order is done and for createing a sorted view i am planning to go with "bucket sort". Now my question here is as every thing is dynamic it will take lot of time for aplication to load which is not desired.
I need your expert suggestions on how can i reduce the time view takes to Load entire application.
    Regards
    Pranav

    Hi Friend,
There are may ways to optimize the performance of the application,
First we need to concentrate on the basic web dynpro concepts like componentization. By implementing this concept we can achieve the gol. we need to know whether the monolithic component architecture or Multi component architecture which is suitable and the communication flow between them. More on this you can find here
[Use components in bigger Web Dynpro projects (componentization) |http://wiki.sdn.sap.com/wiki/display/WDJava/UsecomponentsinbiggerWebDynproprojects+(componentization)]
second you can check the proper implementation of the web DynPro hook methods. if this is done properly then most of the application flow will go very smoothly. there is one very good presentation available on this at SDN here

  • Need a suggestion for setting up a reimbursement program with an annual cap

Can anyone recommend or have an idea on the best way to handle an employee program which provides for $250 in reimbursements for eligible expenses under the program? A few facts about the program:
1- There is an annual $250 cap per employee
2- The $250 does not need to be used all at once
3- Employee's pay for services themselves first and then submit receipts to HR on a quarterly basis for reimbursement
3- Because expenses do not need to be used all at once, the set up must be able to track expenses for the entire year through a cumulative balance
4- The $250 is subject to payroll taxes (though we are not using Oracle Payroll)
Currently, the entire program is being managed via an excel spreadsheet but we would like to automate the program in Oracle. Ideally, we would like for employees to enter their expenses via Oracle iExpense. However, the system would need to be be able to recognize when an employee is over the annual limit, throw a message to the employee letting them know they are over the annual cap, and only allow the remaining balance to be processed in the expense report.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you.
    Barbara

Hmm, if you are not using Oracle Payroll, what are you using for payroll? I am wondering why you could not use your payroll system, whatever it is, to handle this reimbursement program.
Well, you may want to talk to Oracle support about how to handle this in Oracle iExpense. You can certainly handle advances for Expense Reports. You would then apply the advance to the expense report items. The catch is I don't think you can stop expense item entry after the adavance is satisfied. You would have to set up a work flow process of some kind to have the expense reports reviewed and only approve expenses that are applied to the advance, is what I am thinking. Not your ideal solution, but something to think about. It could be the Oracle folks might know of a sneaky way to handle this. What you are trying to do is unusual. Employee advances are common, but the idea of not being able to exceed the advance amount is what unusual about this. Normally you will accept any expenses over the advance amount and reimburse the employee for those extra amounts not advanced.
    Good luck.

  • GW 6.5 - A suggestion for a good book

    Hello people !
I'm CNE in Brazil and I would like to know a good book to implement GroupWise 6.5.1 im my server that it will work with Border Manager 6.5 SP3 (Small Business Suite Starter Pack).
    Thanks in advance.

These fourms are focused on developer issues, you will find that Novell has a
different set of forums for general support, which have a lot more people answering
    questions.
Say that take a look at Novell's own book
