They Should Put a CD / DVD drive in Apple TV. That way people can watch and Listen to things without downloading CD's to there computer or needing to buy a DVD Player.

The ongoing outage of icloud mail service to many of us, two days and counting as of Sept 12, 2012, prompts me to make some constructive suggestions for Apple.

Apple should acknowledge that people do rely on their icloud services and should find ways of using backup servers, much as hospitals have backup generators to supply electricity when municipal sources fail.

IWEB SUGGESTIONS FOR APPLE

First, if Apple actually takes the time to read these Discussions, let me say, "Thanks!" I love Apple.
Second, I don't claim to be an expert, nor do I consider myself a uber-geek with incredible technical prowess.
I've just been playing around with iWeb, and have some suggestions for future updates, another 'Wish List' if you will;
1. The improvements to iPhoto are numerous and impressive, but iPhoto could use just a more photo tweaking in the realm of jpeg sizing. This would help integrate it with many iLife apps, especially iWeb.
2. GarageBand, likewise, also keeps getting better and better, but it too could use a little boost in the way it deals with file size and the overall affect on one's system. Just having the old 'go to GarageBand Help' popup gets a little frustrating. Optimizing should be more directly accessible in the user interface.
3. Creating easy access to, and integration of third party 'add ons' would be a really great way to deal with the current iWeb blogging limitations. Just as with many other blog systems, users could choose which various plug in enhancements they want on their iWeb blog.
If Apple made blog plug-ins easy to do, everybody would win. As with FireFox, for example, a community of iWeb enthusiasts could help develop and build iWeb into a super powerful app, via such user chosen add ons. Perhaps iWeb could be 'opened' up just a bit more, to let some more community light shine in?
That's just my two cents.
Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong or just plain crazy, or post your own suggestions.

Make sure you send your iWeb comments directed at Apple to them via the iWeb > Provide iWeb Feedback menu item. Ideas for Garage Band and iPhoto are better posted in the forums and feedback channels devoted to those programs than here.

Suggestions for Apple?

Sorry if this exists someplace in another thread, but I did not see it. I love Apple and iTunes and want it to keep getting better, it changes the way we live and experience music.
My idea? I love to listen to iTunes radio while doing other things. When I hear a song I like, especially from the 80's... one I had forgotten I loved, I want to buy it... right away! Right now, I have to look it up in the store and buy it. Wouldn't it be great if there was a button next to the song title, just like in playlist entries, that would take you to that song or album in the store if you click it? I think it would also increase impulse buying and revenue for Apple, always a good thing.
What's your great idea?

Suggestion for Apple re: iCloud

Perhaps it should be clearly stated on http://www.apple.com/icloud/setup/ that it DOESN'T WORK on 2nd Gen iPod touch. It would be nice to have that stated for other customers. I just wasted a lot of time trying to trouble shoot why it wasn't working even though (as suggested) I had updated to the latest version, and that would have fixed it right there. All I am trying to do is sync my calendar with the one on my spouse's iPod touch!
Additionally, it would be really great to know that someone from Apple ever looked at this. Apparently, I would have to pay money to submit a suggestion.

Suggestion for Apple Mail

I don't use Apple Mail regularly myself, but here's a suggestion for email client developers everywhere. Maybe some clients already do this?
I've lost count of the number of times that I've sent an email off but forgotten to attach a file. Or the number of times I've received an email absent of an intended attachment.
What about this? The email client looks for the word 'attach', 'attachment', 'attachments', etc, and if there is no attachment, the system pops up an alert asking the user "Are you sure you don't want to attach a file to this email?". Obviously the alert could be suppressed via preferences. I know this won't solve the problem entirely, but my guess is that a great many emails that are sent with an attachment include the phrase "I attach" or "Attached is", something like that.
Payment gratefully accepted for this worldwide convenience and efficiency gain!

Steven, don't tell us about it. We are just other users (with rare exceptions). We can't do anything about your suggestion. Go to the Mac OS X tab above and then Tiger and then Feedback and then give feedback about Mail. The Mail developers are more apt to see it then, but posting in the user-to-user technical help discussions the developers are not likely to see it.

Disconnecting cable TV service. Any suggestions for Apple TV setup?

I don't know if this is the right forum fro my question but here goes:
I'm planning on cancelling my cable TV service and keeping my ethernet internet service from the same cable service. I don't have airport/wireless anything.
I'd like to be able to play DVD's, and to rent movies online. Once my cable box is removed, can/do I replace it with a Tivo, Apple TV, DVD player with netflix capabilities etc? I'm sort of at a loss as to where I begin, probably since I've never used wireless.
My DVD player is on it's last legs, so a new one is most likely an option. Will a DVD player with netflix capabilities be a better bet than Apple TV? Would I need both? Do I need to have Airport Express wireless to use Apple TV?
Any ideas or suggestions for a beginning to a simple setup would be MUCH appreciated. Thank you in advance!

The answer to your main question (which can be paraphrased as "will an AppleTV work for me") is "it depends". The fact that you are considering canceling your cable TV implies that you do not use enough of what it has to offer to make it worth the monthly fee. There have been several similar posts here including at least one in the last couple of moths where a user found that renting movies and TV episodes from iTunes and playing them on AppleTV gave what was wanted at a substantial cost saving.
Turning to specifics, all you need to run AppleTV is an iTunes account and Internet access, wireless unless you have some physical configuration that will let you hook up the ATV by Ethernet cable. Overall, most people seem to use wireless. There are many ways to hook up your cable modem wirelessly. Depending on the service provider it may already have the capability. If not, run down to BestBuy (I assume you are in the US since you reference Netflix which is a US service) and buy a wireless router, hook it into the modem and off you go (ask the BestBuy staff if you need more specific direction).
Other issues: your Netflix question - are you thinking about on demand Netflix as opposed to their rental service? If so you need some device set up to access the service (Netflix will sell you one, and you can also make it work using an Xbox or Sony PS, for example). Right now the only content you can download to the ATV is what you get from iTunes.
If you look at past posts here you will see that opinions vary on the adequacy of the iTunes library and quality of the video. Some of us, including pretty heavy users, are more than satisfied by what is available in terms of content and quality. Others are not. It won't take you long to figure out who is in what camp.
You do not say if you use iTunes / want to have a user-friendly interface to play music without having to have the computer on and running iTunes. If you do, then this is a big plus for AppleTV.
Last point, if you think you may be a very heavy user of download material (to an AppleTV or anything else) and are seduced by the promise of HD, there are two things to bear in mind: firstly, Netflix doesn't offer HD movie downloads, and iTunes only provides HD movies to rent (but you can purchase or rent standard def movies, and TV shows are available in HD); secondly, HD offerings are large files so make sure that there are no download limits from your ISP!

I think that apple should team up with monster beats by dre to come out with the first ever I pad beats. Many of us are looking for a quality sound In iPad by adding this to the iPad we would be able to hear better quality music and watch movies with HD sound. Hope you take time and consider it.

Suggestion for Apple or Third-party software company?

My first question is, where should I post the following suggestion for an improvement in FCP or for the creation of a third party software – suggested sites, blogs, etc.?
Next, my recommendation, and then my explanation of the reason why (including my personal semi-disaster):
Recommendation: That someone create a “Project Management” software for FCP (essentially a file management program that runs in the background) that organizes and tracks all of the files created during editing/post production – including the log/capture or log/transfer of the original footage, the audio files, stills, effects, etc, AND all of the files created by the program -- Live Type, Motion, Soundtrack Pro, and Color (especially color). The reason for this is that FCP has an incredibly complicated filing system that results in shots, files, documents, etc., being distributed all over the place – and not all known to the filmmaker or identified in the documentation. And, that condition can lead to disaster – see below.
Explanation: I just finished my first HD project using Studio 2, including sound track pro and color. After completing what I though was the absolute final version, I burned a one-off DVD and ran it by several filmmaker and non-film maker friends. They all spotted a small sound problem with one cut, so I went back to tweak it – and discovered that ALL of the footage had gone offline. I had nothing, nada, zilch. I had saved earlier sequences (rough cut, polished cut, etc.) and all the original footage appeared, but I had taken the final version into color for some corrections and adjustments, and ALL of those shots/files were missing.
After burning what I believed to be the final cut, I had cleaned up my hard disk, moving stuff to my backup hard disk, to my RAID array, and to the trash. So, after the initial shock and complete panic, several hours of searching all of these drives, led me to the file that contained the files that contained the color corrections – in my trash, which fortunately had not been emptied. I have no idea where the files were before or how they got into the trash – obviously they were not added to the scratch disk with all of the original footage.
Part of the difficulty of finding the shots was the discovery that color creates a file folder, that holds a set of file folders, each of which holds only one shot. In order to reconnect, I had to move the parent folder to the desktop, and then move all of the shots, one at a time. into a single folder, and then point reconnect to that folder. Problem solved.
However, now I face that question of archiving the project, moving all of the files off my hard drive so I can use the space for my next film, and I am terrified that I will leave something out, and not be able to recover the project in the future. Having a project management software that organizes and coordinates all of that would be a lifesaver – and well worth the purchase price.

You've just learned a hard lesson. Put your current energy into your education, not finding a way to wallow in ignorance.
There already is a hardware device that will do what you want. It's called a "manual". In particular, the sections that relate to "where the program stores media". Pay very close attention to those sections and set up your computer so that all the scratch and storage pointers are aimed where you want. It's very simple to have them all go to one drive.
Then, when it's time to archive the project because you are starting a new project, just purchase another hard drive for the new project. They are absurdly inexpensive these days.
Remove the drive with your project to be archived from your computer (since you now know how to keep all the files organized, they will be all together) - and plug in a new disk for the next project.
If you want a backup, use carbon copy cloner to simply duplicate the drive (or simply just copy the relevant folders- you'll know which ones) to another drive (or get a RAID 1 device)

Mixed audio/video playlists - suggestion for Apple

Hi all,
I'm wondering if there's any way to convey suggestions to Apple about the way we'd like to see certain things work on the iPod? Specifically, I find they way my new 5G iPod handles mixed audio/video playlists to be extremely dumb: videos play only if you access them through the Video menu, but if you just go to Playlists and select a video file, you get the audio but no video.
Surely when you select a video it should play the video, and when you select audio it should play that, right? The current situation is very much not the Mac way: it doesn't "just work". I hate having to remember whether I want to play a video or audio file - I'd rather just have one unified Playlists entry, and have each file do the appropriate thing when I select it.
Searching through the Apple site, I can't find any way to submit requested features. Maybe there isn't one . . .

Hi everyone! There are some tiny stuff that bugs me on day to day basis when im using my iphone 4. Like when my background music stops when I enter facebook and stuff like that.
Therefore i suggest that apple makes an application where suggestions and bug reports can be sent to apple directly from it. I think its something very necessary to have in order to make the product iphone even better.

I opened my ipod app played some music and went into facebook and the music didnt stop playing so im not sure whats going on with your phone but it continues to play no matter what I do on my phone

Attachments To Emails? - A Suggestion for Apple

Just a suggestion... wouldn't it make sense to enable a user to add an attachment in email? If I click on a support link on a website and it brings up the email window to write an email, and they require, say, an attached photo or something, then I have to write don the email address, go into my photo album, tap on the photo and send it as an email attachment, then write the email address and then my messgae.
If I am replying to an email, and the person is asking for information, there is no way to insert the document into the email, I have to write an entirely new email. This creates confusion and unneccesary processes.
Tha iPad is supposed to be an intuitive mechanism to improve the efficiency of it's users. Instead it seems to creat block-holes to productivity that could very easily be sorted out with an ammendment to code. Lets include the ability to add attachments in the next iOS update that allows access to photo's, dropbox, or other storage locations so as to increase efficiency.
Please Apple! Steve would want it!

Suggestion for Apple: MacBooks as terminals for the new Mac Pro

Suggesting Apple to enable using MacBooks as terminals for the new Mac Pro if connecting through the thunderbolt.
I am planning to get a new Mac Pro this month and use it as a 'portable' workstation since it weighs only 5kg.
I am working on scienctific research which requires travels quite often.
I want to have a workstation with me when I'm off-site so that I can work without worrying about the network connection.
It would be great if I can use Macbook Air as a display, keyboard and touchpad for the Mac Pro.
I will be fully geared by taking a Mac Pro and a MacBook Air with me where ever I travel.

I don't know much about Thunderbold connections.
Especially how does it combine PICe and DisplayPort signal together.
I would like the MacBook serve as an external screen and an external PCIe video card to the Mac Pro, together with its touchpad and keyboard connected to the Mac Pro as an external USB keyboard and touchpad.
In this case, one may not even boot into the OS on the MacBook side, just need proper drivers in the Mac Pro side for the 'external PCIe video card', keyboard and touchpad.

Is there a site where we can leave suggestions for Apple?

I can't believe there is no tab interface in XCode. Is there a place I can suggest this to Apple... the XCode code isnt' available for recompile is it? <laughter goes here>

First you should download Xcode4 and see if that addresses any of your concerns.

Black MacBook - suggestion for Apple.

Apple takes style quite seriously, right? Then why does my black MacBook come with a white power cord?

I rather enjoy a little bit of contrast. I like black. I drive it around 24x7 (a black motorized wheelchair, that is). I personally think it's better for me to have a black chair because it allows me to stand out.
But I don't want another black computer (or a white one, for that matter). Am I racist? No, it's just getting BORING. Black laptops, white desktops...or really badly-designed cases, period. I'm looking more at the silver MacBook Pro, but let me tell you, color wasn't a consideration.
I want power and performance, really. The MacBook looks good, but the shared graphics just kill the whole deal for me. The 5+ percent tax on memory is too much to pay for this performance-minded user.
As to color, I'd much rather see the ability of customers to pick the color they want, vis a vis iPod mini, or the original i-computers.
Those who choose Apple want to stand on a kind of holy ground. Some just want to set themselves apart from others. But with all computers looking the same on the inside now, what's left?
