Suggestions for blending audio from one clip to next?

I'm learning editing and PP and am practicing by editing different clips from a movie to make my own trailer. The problem I'm having is that going from one clip to another has obvious and abrupt changes. I could add audio transitions to each clip, though for a 2.5 minute trailer I'm not sure if fading audio up and down constantly is the best choice? What is the best way to blend the audio from one clip to the next?
Thanks.

You can create a crossfade (essentially an
audio dissolve) from one audio clip to another.
With the audio track(s) targeted, park the Playhead at the
audio cut and hit Ctrl+Shift+D (or drag from the effect panel):
You need to be sure you have sufficient 'handles'
on both clips to accommodate the crossfade.

  • How can i leave audio from one clip playing, while showing another one in i

i am editing a movie, using iMovie 08, and want to use sound for a clip in the video for the end credits. how can i do this?
just to be clear, i am not trying to add audio. i am trying to leave the audio from ONE CLIP playing, while viewing a new frame. thanks.

This is simple in iMovie 11 (drag and drop), but in iMovie 08, you can still do it.

  • Can one copy Audio from one clip minus its video...to paste to another?

I'm working on a painting video...as an artist/teacher...and easily created a 3 minute trailer on YouTube using iMovie...

I have Final Cut Express 3.5.1 on my intel...and thought I'd best use this higher standard software for the making of my 90 minute DVD...but dang, its coming hard for me. Trying to make sense of the help manual. With iMovie it was nothing to copy an audio track, copy and paste elsewhere...but with FCE I can't seem to separate the audio of the track from one clip to copy and paste elsewhere without that video clip wanting to come along.
The original clip is me painting by a waterfalls..the original narrative voicing was weak, so I did a voice over with a mic and toneport tonight, now I want to paste in the sound of the falls behind copied from a clip where I did no speaking.
I have Soundtrack as well. Am I better off just putting my video clips together in FCE...then importing the whole thing to Soundtrack to edio audio? Seems audio with FCE is tough...well, for me anyway. Thanks

    Hi -
In FCE, select the clip on the timeline that has the audio and video stuck together. Go to the menu Edit and toggle Linked Selection (the check mark will go away).
Now you should be able to copy and paste one without the other.
    Hope this helps.

  • How do I put the audio from one clip over the video of another clip?

So I have two videos, and I want to replace the audio of the first with the audio of the second. Sorry, I'm new to 08 and have been trying to suss this out for ages so I'd really appreciate any advice you guys can give.

This thread seems to be on the same subject and is very helpful.

The Working with Audio clip also included the solution for extracting the audio from a clip at the very end of the video. Having to know the secret handshake of shift-command and dragging is really not intuitive, but such is progress....

  • Audio from one clip plays in preview, not on burned DVD

Have just completed burning a DVD of a 23-minute movie. Everything works fine except that the audio associated with one clip in the movie is almost non-existent. If I turn up the volume when playing the burned DVD through my DVD player/television, the sound can be heard, but barely. The audio from that portion of the movie plays normally while previewing and editing in Premiere Pro, it plays fine as a WAV file in Encore, and it plays fine in Windows Media Player. However, various attempt to burn that segment onto DVD, either alone or as part of the assembled movie, produce almost no sound. Again, the audio for the entire movie is perfect when played in Premiere Pro or Encore; the audio is also perfect on the burned DVD except for the one troublesome clip, in which the audio is so faint that it can't really be heard.

    Dan,
Can't thank you enough for taking the time to hazard a guess about my problem.
I'm a real newbie with regard to video editing, so not conversant with much of the language, but all of the movie's clips were recorded in 16-bit stereo and the resulting DVD was played back through my television, which is a widescreen playing through its own speakers. I think the pertinent information, however, is that everything in the movie plays perfectly with the exception of this one clip, which was produced in exactly the same way as the rest of the movie. The one difference is that we used a different microphone for this clip. But again, this clip, like the rest of movie, plays fine when being previewed in the computer. Go figure.

  • Audio from one clip overlayed on another?

OK, I hope I can explain what I am trying to do in a way that is comprehensible to anyone but me
In the middle of a clip, I want the video to cut to a second clip but the audio from the first clip to keep playing, overlayed over the second clip, then have the video cut back to the original clip. I am doing a short review of a digital camera and in the original clip I am talking about the size of the camera and for about 5 seconds or so I want the video to transition to a second clip (while still playing the audio from the first,) that shows a closeup shot of the camera, then transition back to the original clip.
    Does that make sense?
    Thanks
    Todd

    Hi Todd:
Not really that difficult to do!
    Extract your audio from
I want the video to cut to a second clip but the audio from the first clip to keep playing
Split your video where you want to put the second clip.
Split the audio at the same point.
Lock the 2 newly split audio to the 2 newly split clips.
Drop and drag the video you want to insert at the split point.
    Now you have:
First part of split video with first part of split audio locked
Newly inserted clip (extract any audio that is associated with that clip and delete it.)
Second half of split video with audio locked.
Now you need to movie the audio
    i back
to the inserted clip. So you need to un-lock the audio and slide it back to the point where you split it.
Adjust the lengths of the clips before doing any of this and do not forget to svae, save, save along the way.
    Clear as mud?
    Hope not-Sue

  • I want to use the audio from one of my clips and the video of another can I do this?

I have two different video clips that I took from my still camera. I want to use the audio from one of the clips and the video from the other at the same time in imovie can I do this and if yes how

    Yes.
First go to iMovie/Preferences and make sure that the Advanced Tools are enabled.
Now, drag the clip with the Video into the project.
Drag the clip with the Audio and drop it on the first clip at the frame where you want it to begin. A popup menu should appear. Choose Audio Only. You may then want to open Inspector for the video clip (by clicking the little gear icon at the top left of the clip) and going to the audio tab. Here you can turn down the volume of the video clip, so that all you hear is the audio clip.
Another way. Put the video clip that has the Audio you want in first. Then drag the clip with the video you want and drop it on the clip that has the audio you want. A popup menu will appear. Choose CUTAWAY.

  • When I have two clips, one above the other, I would like to hear the audio from one at a time. How do I suppress temporarily one of that, in a easier way? Thank you.

When I have two clips, one above the other, I would like to hear the audio from one at a time. How do I suppress temporarily one of that, in a easier way? Thank you.

I would think you would drop down the audio level lines in the "Stereo" tab (FCP 6.0.6 view to me) in the clip's video window.
But then again, in my old version, I can't play two clips at once.  But I figure if the newer FCP allow you to do that, then that's what I would do.

  • When I have two audio clips next to eachother, how do i 'dissolve' them so its a smooth transition from one to the next?

I have a few clips besides eachother.. levels are up and down, but i want to do an 'audio dissolve' per se, or fade from one audio clip into the other.. to make it smooth..  how do i do this? thanks

One might think that you could simply drop a transition effect on to two connected audio clips to fade from one to the next. In fact, that's what the menu seems to imply:
But you can not. No transition effects can be attached to Connected Clips. The menu lies!
There are however several ways to do accomplish the transition.
You can overlap them and drag the fade gadgets like this:
Another way is to transform the audio clips to a secondary Storyline (command-g). This will allow you to use transitions.

  • Audio dropout one clip only

I created a movie in iMovie 6.0.3 (project size approx. 3GB) and shared it with iDVD to burn a DVD. Very little extra added in iDVD for Theme, etc. so it should have been well within size limits of standard DVD-R. (I have successfully burned DVDs in iDVD for similar projects with the same brand of DVD-R media previously with no problems). The movie played with no audio loss in iMovie and on the iDVD preview.
I do have music running under the clips, and the only difference on the clip with audio loss on the DVD is that I had to extract the audio from the clip in iMovie to make an edit work.
On that clip of the movie when viewed in iMovie's timeline view I have my video visible on the top line with my extracted audio (from the video clip)on the middle line and my music on the bottom line.
When I burned the DVD and tried to play it back on my TV the audio was fine until the last clip of the movie -- where there was no sound at all. I tried importing from the Media pane in iDVD rather than sharing from iMovie with the same bad result after burning the DVD.
I have checked the forum, and while there are many similar issues no one seemed to have this exact problem. I did print out the linked article re: Updating iDVD to 6.0.1( I currently have version 6.0.3) and deleting encoded assets (I had plenty of space available on my hard drive) -- it didn't seem to apply to my problem, if I'm understanding those two issues.
I will try the Disk Utility fix, but I'm trying to make a deadline and have never created a DVD that way before.
Any ideas how to burn the DVD -- preferably with the iDVD theme and button menu if possible, but most importantly with the least loss of video and sound quality.

Thank you for the helpful response. I was able to deliver the DVD on time with a workaround.
Once that was done, I tried playing the DVDs I created originally on my friend's DVD player and they played perfectly!!!
Any suggestions out there -- other than I need a new DVD player
is there any way to confirm a DVD burned in iDVD will play on the majority of DVD players before I send it out as a finished project?

  • Detaching audio from video clips

    Hi
After trying the standard 'detach audio' button I cant seem to find a way to completley detach audio from a clip in order to hear the track I have added to the clip. All I can seem to do is turn the volume right down, and inturn still able to hear it, which is proving annoying!
    Any ideas would be appreciated!
    Thanks

    Thanks for your reply Geoff,
I basically have a soundtrack 3.28 minutes long which I want to be the only noise thats playing throughout my interchanging video clips, so I would like to completley move the audio from the all of the indivdual video clips that I am adding in, I thought the 'detatch audio' button would be the one for this, but as I continuously play back bits of the movie to prefect editing I can still slightly hear the sound from the individual videos that I am adding?
So frustrating, but Im sure thats its something real basic that I am missing.....

  • How do I overlay audio from interview clip over other video clips?

Help! I have some interview clips and want to over lay the audio from one of the interviews over different video clips. For example, I would show video and audio from the interviewee and then cut to a clip or scene showing what the guy is talking about but still have the interviewees audio playing as a voice over on the cut-away clip. How do I do that?!

    Welcome to the forum.
Is this Audio muxed (combined into a Clip w/ both Audio & Video), or is it a separate Audio-only file, that has been Imported into your Project?
If the latter, just drag an Instance of it to a free Audio Track, and position, as is needed. Note: each Instance of a Clip can have different In & Out Poiints, so you are not limited to them being identical.
For the former, the muxed file, there are a couple of ways to do that, but possibily the easiest is to Alt-click on the Audio part of the Clip (temporarily unlinks the Audio & Video), and Ctrl-C (Copy), then move the CTI (Current Time Indicator/Playhead) to the end of the Timeline, and press Ctrl-V (Paste), for as many Instances of that Audio, as you need. Then, drag them to an empty Audio Track, while holding down the Ctrl key for an Insert Edit, rather than a Ripple Edit, so as to not affect anything on that Track, below the desired Video Clip. If you are replacing the Audio.
Another way to do that is to use an audio-editing program to rip the Audio, Save as a PCM/WAV @ 48KHz 16-bit file, and then Import that into the Project, for use in many Instances.
Good luck, and hope that helps,

  • How do I use just the audio from a clip in imovie? No picture, no video, just audio!

I want to put the audio from a clip at the end of the video. No video, just black screen

It will require a bit of a workaround. But it can be done. If you enable Advanced Tools under the iMovie Preferences (Go to the iMovie Menu > Preferences). Enable Advanced Tools by clicking the checkbox.
Now create  a title with a black background by dragging at title to the end of the video on the Project timeline. Once the title is there, delete all the text on the title. Now drag that black background directly dead center onto the video clip just before the end where you want to 'blot out' the video and just have audio. When you release the mouse, you will be shown a pop-up menu with a bunch of different options including one titled cut-away. Choose this option. What will happen is the video will cut to the black video background you dragged on top of the video clip. You can set the duration by dragging the left and right edges out further to make it run longer. This black back ground effectively cover the video and will continue to play the audio of the underlying video clip.

  • Extracting audio from many clips at a time

I have to extract some audio from many many video clips, so I was attempting to do it in one step, but Logic extract only from one clip at a time
So I'm thinking to use Audio Converter (it can extract audio from many clips in one step), but it ask me the AIFF encoding Bitrate (among 64 and 192 kbps). So I'm wondering... but Logic which AIFF bitrate manages???

yes, it is possible. Infact, it is the normal practice to add those 10 roles to that single user in SU01 direclty.
and as I said, user comparison should be scheduled normally in SAP system landscape to do the things automatically, however not immediately but after some time.

If you want user comparison immediately, then you need to do it manually in the role.
