Hello Creative Minds,
I'm working a remote editing gig for a fellow wanting to create a video lecture series. In this clip, I sampled out the noisy and distracting Background ambience of the room he's in. Unfortunately, now this man sounds like he's talking thru an underground speaker from across the playground...
Audio's not my forte in FC Studio. Any suggestions to correct this clip's audio track?

Often the very noise you wish to remove is directly in the frequencies of human voice. The more you remove the noise, the more you screw up the voice.
Play with specific frequency dampening, but if it is general "white noise", you just supress it some and live with the result.
Also, sometimes a noise gate can deal with really low level noise.

fwiw- for the next series of lectures, get him to invest in good microphones and have them well placed in the room.
I often record talks in a room where the a/c noise is distracting. By good placement of mics I can reduce that crud to well below the irritation threashold...

- do you need more RAM? (run Activity Monitor and see how much free RAM - green - is available)
- do you Restart fairly regularly, e.g. at least once a week, to clear out any swap or temporary files?
- do you need to do maintenance, e.g. clearing out caches and unused logs, etc?

Software for cleaning-up audio

Can anyone suggest software good at cleaning up audio? I am trying to preserve some audio tapes and am finding two major issues: tape hiss and occasionally high-pitched whistling sounds. Anything out there that can help clean these up? I realize tape hiss can't be cleaned up all that much without seriously compromising the original sound. But I'm hoping there's a way to isolate the frequency of the whistle and remove it. Any suggestions? Any shareware perhaps??

Check out this site: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ I wanted something to do just what you're hoping to accomplish. I too have a lot of tapes that I'd like to convert to CD; after doing one conversion(to date), though the exercise was worth the learning experience, I may not continue and simply make new CDs of music that I have on my LPs. One of the plug-ins is tape hiss removal. It probably will remove the hiss quite effectively. It's an open source program so no cost is required.

Suggestions for cleaner for superdrive?

My burner is not working and I'm looking to try a cheap lens cleaner before I spend the money to replace the drive (I know it's not that expensive, but still $10 is less than $40!). Has anyone used one effectively? Willing to recommend a particular one? I have found some that specifically say "not for macs" and ones that say they are for players-- is there any difference between a cleaning disc for a player and one for a burner?

My G5 has the "Sony DVD RW DW-U10A" Superdrive. Almost overnight it seemed to not want to burn DVD-R discs - even from the same spindle of blank discs that had worked for years.
I read a lot of posts here on the issue. I also searched the web looking for a DVD burner specific cleaner disc. I never found one and many cautioned against using a cleaner disc designed for CD and DVD players. Several folks claimed that their DVD burners failed soon after using a cleaner disc designed for a CD/DVD player. Most folks that seemed to be rather knowledgeable and cautious recommended "canned air" as the only safe method for cleaning.
I got a can of air, and found that with the drive door open, I could not see the laser lens. I took the Superdrive out and found it was still hard to see. That's when it hit me that if I can't successfully clean it, I don't care if I kill it.
So, I took the drive casing apart, wiped the laser lens with a Q-tip and sprayed the canned air.
The drive is back in, and working better. It's not great - it fails a good bit at the 4X burn rate, so I have to back it down to 2X or 1X, which is soooo slow. I may just replace it, since it is really frustrating. Of course all of this happened as I was just getting started backing up a big (500GB) external drive.

Suggestions for holster case with belt swivel clip

I have a 3GS in an Agent 18 EcoShield case to protect it. What I am looking for is a holster type case with a swivel belt clip to carry this combo in. Agent 18 suggested I ask at an Apple Store. Going to do that, but wanted to ask the Community as well. Do you have any suggestions? Does my question make sense?

Workflow Suggestions for Getting Multiple Audio Tracks From Drum Machine

My goal is to make separate audio tracks from the MIDI output coming out of a hardware Boss DR-880 drum machine. It has nice drum samples that I would like to use. So far, I know how to split the output by MIDI notes as to create multiple tracks. I end up with a about 10 tracks which are all MIDI of course. What I want to do is end up with all audio tracks. This way I can set the levels and EQ to taste for each part of the drum kit.
What's the most straightforward way to achieve this goal? I tried bouncing in place but that only works for plugins -it's grayed-out for the post note split generated MID tracks. I also found a post on this forum with what I think is similar question but it's closed and the question was not clearly answered for a newbie like me.
So far I can do this:
1. Record the MIDI output from the drum machine to an External MIDI track.
2. I then split the MIDI track by note to get multiple MIDI tracks.
3. To get audio I play each track individually e.g., just the kick drum and record the audio coming
out of the drum machine into an audio track.
This is a huge pain since I have on average about 10 MIDI tracks! There has to be a better way, right?

ok now when u want to do such a thing which i totally understand what u are trying to do !so u have these options L
1- u should have a mixer to feed it with all your outputs from outboard gears like drum machines ,samplers etc...coz what u like in your dr-880 is the character of its sound and trust me if i tell you even if u tried to sample it and put it into any sampler software ,it will have the same sound but not the same character ! so thats why we still have samplers and out board gears and they will be still manufactured coz of that reason ...so for example i use my akai s6000 sampler which it has 16 outputs direct to my mixer so i can do what ever i want midi wise and audio wise with out any pain ,coz even if i have the same samples into my whatever sampler software i will never have the color and the character of the sound coming out from my akai ...and i use a drum machine which it has 10 outs as well and all is playing in sync in real trime with my audio tracks inside my logic ...this is the best solution !but i think u dont have that solution but u have to think about it if u bring a good console..!
2- you don't have to divide your midi from your machine you just do what ever its need to be done and when u finish record them one by one into your logic or 2 by 2 or what ever but in this case u cant control the midi of it anymore
but you gonna pain to do that every time coz sometime u dont have much time to think about u have to record the sound before any mix down!but it will work for you
3- make samples by your own of your drum machine and use esx24 to play them !but again you gonna lose the character of your sound but still having the same sounds u want ( if u know how do make a good samples).

Need hardware suggestions for midi and audio

hi everyone,
im thinking of getting a new imac and setting up a little recording studio in my room. nothing fancy, just for my own enjoyment.
i've been looking for the best way to plug in my midi keyboard, and microphone/instruments. is a breakout box the best way to go? i won't need to record more than one instrument at a time. is there a box that has one midi input, one instrument input, and maybe an xlr input that will work with imac/garageband? will i need a preamp for this, or will it boost the signal as well?
any recommendations on models are greatly appreciated.

i use the Edirol Audio Capture midi device. it has midi in out ports, audio L(mono) and R in ports, and an audio out port. I use it mainly to play guitar and record it into garage band, but my brother uses a keyboard attatched to it through the midi port and that works fine too. I definetly reccomend it.

Okay ive been thinking and i believe apple can do some upgrades to the trackpad in a software update to do even more amazing stuff for example:
-how about you touch the four corners of your trackpad to turn off your laptop
-or three corners for restart
-two corners for log out
any comments?

IMovie for iphone 4 audio issues

I'm noticing 2 serious audio issues:
1) after adding some music from my song library to a clip of my wife talking, I can barely hear her. iMovie is supposed to reduce the volume of the song. Well, it doesn't look like it's doing it properly--the volume of the music is WAY too loud.
2) when I add a 2nd clip of her talking, the audio on this clip disappears entirely. All I hear is the song. Even after removing the song from the timeline, the audio of the clip is still missing. I can't believe the imovie team never noticed this bug.

I believe when you add a Video clip to a Project that contains a Music track, the Audio for the Video track is muted. Simply enable it via the "Clips Settings".
Try this:
Double tap the Video Clip to bring up the "Clips Settings" window.
Tap the ON / OFF toggle to turn the Audio ON for your video track.

How do I put the audio from one clip over the video of another clip?

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of this exercise is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:

Immediately after you hear the startup tone, hold the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone, but not before the tone.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on some Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.

Is there any suggestion for the "SafeNamedCache was explicitly released"

I deployed the coherence-java-3.6.0-java on red had with core 2.6.18 with 64 bit.
Then the deployed the coherence-3.6.0-cpp on the same manchine and complied the example "hellogrid" and it works ok . No any error .
My requirement is to integrate the Coherence into the Nginx0.7.62 for my web server . And i wrote a thread pool for the NameCache::handle and get a newly hendle after a 5 seconds just because of the error "was explicitly released" . But it is not useful for solving the problem .
Anybody please give me a suggestion for the root cause of this problem .

Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP! Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process. Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal. No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
