Suggestions for eliminating hissing noise from Synced Synth Recordings?

When recording an external synth, the volume levels are very low. I connect the midi cables to my interface (Alesis io14). I also connect the audio ins and outs. This has helped me to produce other music from composers who want to dump from their synths. We do a track at a time.
Unfortunately, when recording this way, the volume is lacking. And if we want to use the original performance from that synth, I always have to overcompress the audio tracks, which then creates hissing. I can't think of anything to do as I always make sure that the keyboard volume is maxed and all keyboard tracks are turned up as well. Any suggestions on getting rid of the hiss?

Get some good preamps or a Firewire Mixer with good preamps to amplify the signal before it hits the A/D converter.
To eliminate existing hiss check out iZotopes RX Plug In, the denoiser section has a learn function where it takes a fingerprint of the noise to eliminate and then very accurately eliminates that frequency spectrum from the Audio file. Check out the demo:

  • Suggestions for removing video noise from converted Hi8 footage

I am about to start capturing Hi8 material into FCP 6 through a Sony D8 camcorder that does the analog to digital conversion. Even after cleaning the tape heads, I notice a very few lines of noise at the very bottom of the frames - like a dirty head. From the camcorder side everything looks normal - no noise. From the FCP side in VTR mode you can see the noise. I am not sure if this is an artifact from the analog to digital transfer or if the tape head is still dirty.
Question: assuming I cannot eliminate the noise on transfer/input, is there an easy way to apply a universal filter or horizontal "clip" function to imported video to remove the bottom few lines of video? I guess I could always overlay a black canvas covering only a few lines on the bottom, but maybe there is a more elegant solution?
Thanks in advance for any counsel!

What you are seeing are timing errors that are an artifact of analog recording and generally are outside the viewable area of a CRT TV (i.e. in the overscan zone). If you are setting these up for digital presentation - web or computer play only, these items may be seen.
You have a couple of options to deal with the tearing ..
    • Recapture the material using a Hi8 deck and a separate analog/DV converter with a full frame Time Base Corrector between the tape machine and the analog/DV converter. This will clean up the timing errors but is an expensive proposition.
    • Crop the image. This will leave a very slight letterbox effect and may not be noticeable unless you mix the material with non-cropped material.
    • Slightly enlarge the material so that the tearing falls outside of the 720x480 area. Expanding images much beyond 110% softens/pixelates the images noticeably and my not be acceptable.
    • Live with it.
    Good luck.

  • Removing hiss/noise from amp simulator

Iv recently started to record using Garageband and just cant remove the hiss/noise from the amp simulator without compramising the sound i want for recording drastically. I use quite high gain as i play mainly heavy rock, iv tried turing the gain levels down but im not getting anywhere near the sound i would like to achieve. So do you know of any methods that i can give a go or will i just have to live with the results and compramise?
    Many thanks in advance!

Cheers guys for the help, it went down a treat and now i practically have no hiss/noise on my tracks. Thanks very much for letting me get my music down as i want it, you were both very helpful!

  • Hissing noise from the speakers

    hi mates,
i hear a hissing sound from the internal speakers whenever the system tries to play sound through the internal speaker, be it a system sound or playing my music, or just by opening a application that may play music, i get this hissing sound before a system sound and this hissing noise continues for some time after the sounds are stopped playing, i get this hissing noise even when i change volume of the speakers. i dont get it through the headphones. the strange thing is i get this hissing noise even if i play a movie when my speakers are muted.
i went through this forum, some members have adviced to reset the pram, smc, reinstall the os, friends i tried all these but still i continue with this problem.
my macbook is brand new and just a week old.
i am really worried about this problem.

    hi sailor,
contacted apple phone support, unfortunately apple care number is not free in australia.
first time it took 17min and was not able to contact a technician coz credits in my mobile ran out.
second time it took 25min. i explained all the issues
told them i reset the pram, smc and reinstalled the OS and still i hear the hissing noise.
they replied that speakers may make a hissing noise if the macbook is on battery, but the noise should be very low and it should not be audible, if the noise is audible and loud, they suspect its a hardware failure, i got my case id and will be taking it to the nearest service center here, for them to have a look.
so if u have a macbook that is under warranty dont hesitate to contact them. i guess even refurbished macbooks bought in online store also have a 1yr warranty.

  • N95 hissing noise from ear-piece

Me too, I am suffering from this annoying noice when I am in call, it is not extremely digusting but I could not enjoy while using my N95 to make a call!!
    Dear Nokia,
I observed that the hissing noice from the ear-piece will be gone once the screen is in the screen saver mode, i.e. when the time & date horizontal bar is shown.
I tried to press a key to cause the screen back to standby mode, i.e. the main screen, then the noise comes back.
Wait for a while and let it back to screen saver mode, noise is gone again.
This might be something can be fixed with firmware upgrade (I hope my assumption is right) and I will be glad if the noise will disappear in V13 firmware (if any).
    Thanks.

I don't think that hissing is the earpiece. Mine makes funny noises too. Its the screen. Whenever the screen is lit it makes a noise. I think thats the power going through it. I had a motorola v3i and that did the same. Whenever the screen light went off like in standby mode it stopped humming. My N95 is the same. Its normal. Your computer or laptop screen hums when the screen is lit too. It just means its working and has power going through it.
Its not who i am underneath. But what i do that defines me.
You are here for a reason Superman.

  • Hissing noise from rear of mac pro

    Hi,
My new Mac Pro has a hissing noise at the back of the tower, where the power lead goes in. Is it a power supply problem? Anyone out there with a similar problem?
Mac Pro   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    Hello, thanks for the responses!
x4...: Haven't tried using another account; my computer has only one registered currently (it's spanking new)
I did try logging into safe mode - while I received no indication that it was on safe mode, all sound functions appeared to be terminated when I logged on after long-pressing Shift. Panicked in a small way there, ha ha.
Bart..: Quitting email clients (mail, gmail, outlook on web) didn't help
And nope - no one else logged into computer.
All this said, the sound has stopped mysteriously right now. There's a good chance it'll start again though (it's done this before, with no connection to newly opened programmes or anything)
    Thanks, all!

  • Hiss noise from iPad2 speakers when launching an app that uses the speakers

A couple of months ago I bought an iPad2 Wi-Fi. It was working fine until yesterday that it started making a hiss noise every time an app that uses the speakers was launched, for example when the keyboard clicks sound is enabled it will make noise while typing (this is somehow annoying). Is this a known issue?
Is this a hardware defect or can it be fixed with a software upgrade?
    Thanks.

i have the same problem: ipad2 makes noise every time when plays sound (music, video, games, typing)
i'm sure that problem is hardware..
the noise exists only with speaker: if i connect headphones noise disappears

  • Suggestions for eliminating downtime while loading cubes

    Hi all,
we are currently looking at multiple daily refreshes of one of our Essbase cubes. One of the challenges I'm currently facing is that the cube is down while it's being loaded. Any users who try to query the cube during this downtime receive the message "Cannot proceed while the cube is being loaded".
I'm sure there must be a way to set up an environment where the cube database is not unavailable during loading times. For example is it possible to copy the cube database to another location after a build, then "deploy" the cube to users from there? That way when the cube is being reloaded, it would only affect the "deployed" cube when the build is finished and it's being copied to the deployment area.
I would welcome advise from anyone on how to avoid this kind of downtime as it will be unfeasible to implement multiple daily refreshes (the build already takes about an hour and a half... that's a lot of down time already) without some kind of strategy whereby the previous build is only discarded completely once the current build is ready.
    I'd greatly appreciate any advice.
    Thanks and kind regards,
    Mickey G

    Hi Mickey,
The better solution for that will be having 2 databases in the Applications. For example, Basic1 and Basic2.
Now users in their business hours entered data in Basic1 database. Before doing cube build,You have to archive all data in a text file. Now in the cube build load step, swap the cubes(like a=b and b=a. Here, you have to disconnect the connections for Basic1 and shift the connections to the Basic2 database ). By doing this, Basic2 database is available to the users.(Here, both database should be in synch with outline structure) and they can do the transactions on Basic2 database.
Basic1 database is now build with fresh data.
Basic2 database is carrying one day old data.
And once the cube build is done, swap the cubes.
Please let me know if you understand it or not. I wil try to explain in a better manner.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Upendra.

  • Suggestions for sending meeting invitations from a sharepoint calender rather than an outlook calender

    Hi,
In a normal outlook calendar we have the ability to send invitations to a group of people, however I am not sure as to how can I achieve this when using a sharepoint calendar. I do not see the "invite attendees" option when creating a meeting request.
Any suggestions if this is possible or there are any 3rd part tools.
    Thanks

You can achieve by creating custom solutions.
    1.
Create custom solution and add content type to your meeting content type
    2.
Create workflow to sent “Invitation” email
Above custom solution can be done either using SharePoint Designer or Visual Studio.

  • New P67A-C45 (B3) - Static/hissing noise almost in sync with HDD sound

I just bought a new New P67A-C45 (B3), fixed everything up, installed the realtek sound driver then i start to hear the static/hissing noise from my speakers.
The noise seems to be in sync with the HDD activity.
I research online and it seems that not only I have this problem, quite a few people having the same sound chipset on a Gigabyte board are also facing the same problem.
But all solutions is in the direction of mac, stating that a v262 driver have solved the problem.
Anyone got any idea about this? I am rally very irritated with the static/hissing noises coming from the audio..

Have a look in your manual of the included accessories with your mainboard. Note the 'Back I/O Plate'.
For this I think you all are talking about the back panel right? One of the tabs is touching the exterior of the ethernet port. I assume it should be correct?
Quote from: sjay on 11-April-11, 07:48:46
What they mean is you need to remove the graphics card and unplug the cables from the motherboard and remove the motherboard itself, check the grounding screws (The screws that the mobo sits on and in to which you screw the mobo screws into to hold it down) and make sure that all of them match the holes on the mobo, if there are any that don't match Remove the standoff because it is causing the improper grounding you are experiencing. If you are missing any ("only using two"?) and have standoffs laying around, add the standoffs to the holes that fit.
I did this just last night and it fixed my reboot problem after I had done everything via bios and OS to try and solve it.
Done as well. The base plate in my casing for the motherboard was just fitting for it. I do not need any stand-offs, there were six bumps that align with screw holes nicely.

  • Removing hissing noise?

Is garageband capable of removing the hissing noise from an mp3 file. If so, how do I go about doing this?
If not, what other software is worth purchasing to acheive this?

    Hi,
Is garageband capable of removing the hissing noise from an mp3 file. If so, how do I go about doing this?
Hang's suggestions about E.Q. are the option that can help in GB.
If you do this, try boosting the frequencies until you find the one(s) where the hiss lives. Then you can carefully cut/lower that frequency range to remove as much hiss as possible without hurting the part you want to keep.
If not, what other software is worth purchasing to acheive this?
If you want an app that specializes in Noise-Reduction, I suggest SoundSoap2.
It's not cheap, and I wouldn't buy it for cleaning up one mp3, but it has a very user-friendly interface, and does a good job of removing several kinds of noise.

  • How to remove noise from a recorded audio file.

I'm a relatively new user. I recorded certain audio files which are noisy(humm or hiss). Can anyone suggest ways to remove noise from that clip? I tried Denoiser but it added further noise artifacts which were unpleasant to hear Need help. And pls dont ask me to rerecord it in a noise free environment!

If you have some cash you go after 'Sonnox Restoreor' or 'iZotope RX'. Otherwise this might be of some help:

  • Digital Hiss Noises via Toslink

My audio interface is from the digital outs on the G5 to a Rosetta 200. While using the audio core drivers for Logic Pro, Abelton Live, Reason and Garage Band, I am hearing a hiss noise from the digital I/O via toslink.

  • Odd hissing noise when inserting PCMCIA card

I'm testing a wireless broadband card (Sierra AC580), and I've encountered a very strange issue. When I insert the PCMCIA card into its slot, I get a loud hissing noise from the left speaker. I can reduce the volume of the noise by moving the card side to side, and sometimes I can transfer it from the left to the right speaker.
Is this some kind of interference issue between the speakers and the cell signal coming from the card? Has anyone else encountered this? The speaker volume has no effect on the volume of the sound. Neither does the mute button (F3).

I have the same sound - my MBP is only a week old as well... If you are not happy with it or are having further problems with it reading cd's or dvd'd then you should take it back to your local apple store.
I know of two other MBP users and they have the same thing... as said on other posts "not very pleasing to the ear"...
