Suggestions for upgrading system

I have a Palm Tungsten E2 =, which is showing it's wear and is synced to my XP system.
I tried to upgrade to my Vista machine, but don't want to buy another gadget to make it work there, so I want to upgrade.
I currently have a Verizon cell phone - which only offers basic phone book.
What I want to know - can someone suggest a phone/palm combo that will be able to somehow import all of my info from my xp computer (via email of the file? to save to my vista machine?) that I will then be able to open and use on the 'new phone/pda - I don't want to carry around 2 devices anymore, if that's possible!
I'm no geek, but consider myself somewhat tech savvy - they eyes just can't spend the hours trying to find the info on the web, so I thought I'd ask some of the 'experts' on this  forum.  Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks in advance!
Post relates to: Tungsten E2

To find out what version Windows you have installed, go to the computer icon on the PC desktop or from the start menu, right click the icon and go to properties. On the general tab look for the version, it should state if it is 64bit.
Palm OS is not compatible with the Windows contacts and mail program. You need to sync with either Palm desktop or Outlook 2003 or higher. If you want to move the data to Windows contacts and mail, you can export data from palm desktop in several different formats. You can export the contacts in csv format and import into windows contacts. The calendar can export in vcal format and import into windows calendar.
In order to get your data to Vista, if the data is current and correct on the E2, you can sync to Vista without sync'ing to XP. Another option is to export the data from the XP PC and import into Palm desktop on the Vista PC if the E2 is not current.
Here is a procedure for exporting the data.
The best way to preserve your data is to export the data in each category in Palm Desktop to a seperate folder on your PC.
Create a new folder on your PC somewhere that is convenient. Name it something like Palm Desktop Data. Click on the link below and follow the instructions on that page for the export procedure.
http://www.palm.com/cgi-bin/cso_kbURL.cgi?ID=28734
Make sure you select all for the range in the export window.
With the data saved in the folder you created, make a copy of that folder and save to a flash drive, cd-rw or external hard drive.
Anytime you make a change in Palm Desktop, export the data that was changed to that folder and save again to the external media.
With this process you can always import the data back into Palm Desktop anytime you have a problem with the data in Palm Desktop or if your computer/hard drive/device crashes.

  • Suggestions for Upgrading Hard Drive

I'm looking to upgrade my internal Hard Drive in my Macbook Pro. The current internal hard drive is the 250 GB hard drive that came with the computer. I want to upgrade to an internal hard drive of at least 320 GB or more. Does anyone have any suggestions as where to look for an upgrade? Or does anyone have any suggestions for a good, reliable internal hard drive that will work for me?
    Thanks!

The largest notebook drive currently available is 500 GBs. Drives may be purchased at:
    MacSales.com
    Buy.com
    NewEgg.com
And, many other online vendors. Any SATA notebook drive should work. If you don't have a Unibody MBP, then the drive height must not exceed 9.5 mm. Choose 5400 RPM drives for economy or 7200 RPM drives for higher speed and performance. Manufacturers include Samsung, Toshibs, Hitachi, Seagate, Western Digital, and Fujitsu. For performance comparisons and benchmarks visit Bare Feats, Storage Review, or Tom's Hardware Review.

  • Elite e9150t - upgrading coolingfan/heatsink and power supply (suggestions for upgrade?)

    Hey guys,
I don't know why I didn't come here first, but here I am.
Basically, I have the HP elite e9150t model. Great computer... I've already upgraded a few things, but I am looking to do another little upgrade and would love to get some input. It's also Windows 8.1 Pro.
Alright, I've upgraded the ram to two 8gb kingston chips. I've also upgraded the video card to a GeForce 660 GTX. Now I am looking to upgrade my power supply and cooling unit. I've been running into problems where my computer will start to overheat when playing games. I can render out things easily enough with 3D software like Maya, but games make the system chug. That's why I've decided to upgrade the cooling unit and figured I should do the same for my power supply as well since it still has the 460w unit. I'd love to get this ugpraded to the point that I can play games with high settings and not worry about my computer dying on me from heat related injuries. I'm not looking to play games like Watch Dogs at the highest setting. I'd LOVE to have that, but I doubt I could squeeze that out right now. I would, however, love to play a game like Wildstar on their ultra setting (which I feel should be doable with my system).
Also, I am pretty much ignorant when it comes to computer hardware. When I say this, I am not exaggerating. I really have no idea what I am doing when it comes to this part of computers. Here are the two items that were suggested to me. Keep in mind, that I am on a budget right now (starting a new job next week after graduating this past week), so this is about what I can afford (this ~price range). I've also added a fan to the side panel of the computer (well I didn't, but the guy I bought it from did).
    First is the power supply:
XFX TS Series P1550SXXB9 550W ATX12V 2.2 & ESP12V 2.91 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready 80 PLUS Bronze Certified Active PFC Power Supply
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817207013
550 Watt for ~$25 after rebate. Can't beat that and the people that recommended it were saying that it's made by a great company (SeaSonic?)
    And the cooling unit:
Cooler Master Hyper T4 - CPU Cooler with 4 Direct Contact Heatpipes
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16835103182&cm_re=Cooler_Master_Hyper_T4-_-35-10...
It was actually suggested I get the TX3, but I saw that the TX3 does not support LGA 1336 that the HP has.
    1) Case size: I've tried googling what type of case I have because it seems like that is the jelly to any peanut butter question on power supplies and/or cooling units. Will my suggested items fit in the case I have? It looks like a tight fit in there, so I don't know how well they'll fit.
    2) Are the recommended items good: Again, I don't know anything about this stuff and am going purely off recommendations. Are these the items that I do need?
    3) Another thing bugging me about the video card: Not exactly on topic, but I have the GeForce card in there right now and it's huge. I also have a sound card, but the way the PCI slots are setup, I have to put the sound card directly over the GeForce card (and the Geforce card has a fan on top of it blowing up). This has the heat blowing directly to the sound card. I don't know if this is what I want to do? I read somewhere that I want the video card closest to the heatsink? Could I reverse the order and have the sound card below the video card and still get away with it? It's a nice sound card and it's being wasted right now (not even in the computer).
Alright, thanks guys. I know I wrote a **bleep** essay here, but I wanted to be detailed as possible. Thanks again for those that stuck through the whole thing lol...

    Hi,
I suggest that you do some measuring from the top of the processor to bottom of the removable side panel. You need this measurement to determine if your chosen heat sink cooling  will fit.
When you install the new power supply then install it fan up pointing to top so that is draws cool air into the power supply from the top side air intake vents.  Measure your existing power supply and look for a high efficiency model with a large fan that will fit in your PC.  If you can find a PSU with a 140 mm fan that will fit then go for it.
Additional cooling ideas: PCI slot cooling fan and vented PCI slot covers.
Your particular PC probably has a single width graphics just link my e9280t (same cabinet and mobo).
BTW--the truckee mobo is not spec'd for 8 GB dimms.
You have made lots of changes already to your PC so  saying that you know very little appears to be underestimating your own ablities.

  • Suggestions for upgrading 3 Mac Pro FCP edit stations

I want to upgrade our three Mac Pro (Power PC) FCP5 edit stations. Our Mac Pro G5s currently access a Xraid/Xserve/Xsan fiber network. There seems to be plenty of speculation out there that Apple is discontuing the Mac Pro line and FCP X is not compatible with our exisitng projects - which number in the hundreds. So, I might be leaning toward new high-end iMacs using FCP7 but I'm not sure how to network them and share FCP projects. Any suggestions on where to go from here are appreciated. Thanks.

    *** Fibre Channel
Probably the most important thing that you'll be losing on an iMac is the Fibre Channel connection; however, Promise Technologies has their SANLink - Fibre Channel adapter using Thunderbolt Technology (I don't know if it's actually shipping yet),
    Here's the product link:
    http://www.promise.com/storage/raid_series.aspx?region=en-global&m=192&rsn1=40&r sn3=49
The upside here is that if this adapter works as expected, you could use any Mac with Thunderbolt (all the current models have it).  Even though the Mac mini is the least powerful of the Apple line, it's a huge performace leap over a PowerMac G5 and the Mac mini supports both a computer display via its Thunderbolt/Display PortMini and a HDMI TV via its HDMI out.  This takes perfect advantage of FCP Digital Cinema Desktop modes.
*** Which version of FCP do you own?
Another issue is going to be your FCP software installers (which I'm sure you're already aware of).  Your PowerMac G5s must be running Final Cut Pro 6 or older as 6 was the last version to run on a PowerPC.  And Final Cut Pro 5 was the first version that could be installed on an Intel based Mac.
In theory, FCP5, 6 or 7 will run on an intel Mac, however, the current Mac OS and support for it is probably going to be your biggest issue for everything that curently works as expected on your G5s.
The upgrade from FCP 5 to 6 or 7 is as easy as it gets other than having to order Final Cut Pro Studio 3 directly from Apple (last I read, they're still selling it if you call them with the part number and you say you need it for exisiting projects).
*** Do you use 3rd party capture cards like the Blackmagic-Designs Decklink?  Blackmagic makes a Thunderbolt replacement which should work fine on its own, but will need to be carefully tested with the Fibre Channel adapter.
Be ready to be on the phone with tech support, checking user forums, and make sure you can take anything that you're purchased back.

  • Suggestion for linux system?

    Hello guys,
i think sure becasue it has problem about deb and rpm files when you use OpenSuse and i am using on Ubuntu. It is not possible when GNU/Linux convert to current package file = Problem with security like creficate crashes.
Please do not convert with alias! I think better becasue we use any Linux System like any Pengiuns will install and share with *.bin, *.run or *.bundle File.
    Example:
I have been generated this package for Adobe Air Application like this MyAppInstaller.deb than any user will to install deb on OpenSuse. It is a bad way.
When any user will hack with alias with conversion and MyAppInstaller.rpm can not install because it is worng end of coding. That is a bad result.
Now i know becasue any linux users will to important 3 file binaries like *.bin, *.run and *.bundle. 3 binary packages will to open simple for any Linux System. like you are using OpenSuse 14.x or Ferdora 12.x and i am using Ubuntu 10.x or Debian 6.x = It is a nice result with important binary packagers.
I hope you because Adobe AIr 2.8 will to improve and update and supports any Linux Distributed System ( Ubuntu, OpenSuse, Ferdora and Arch Linux and more unknown linux systems... )
Please fix "adl" because i am trying on shell. It can not work because binary is worng and unknown.
    Thanks for suggestions!

I do understand that hardware might play a role on compability on the system, but at this moment I'm just trying to shortlist some OS recommendations.Use OEL - Oracle Enterprise Linux.
No single o/s is that much better than another, that it alone serves as the differentiator for choosing A over B. Usually it is a combination of issues, like network technology used, storage technology used, application technology used, existing infrastructure, budgetary constraints, corporate IT strategy and so, that drives the o/s decision.
But when looking at a Linux specifically as the chosen o/s, and deciding on which distro, those issues have already been factored into the o/s decision.
So one needs to look at other factors - like support for example (a critical one IMO).
Using OEL means that you have now the same vendor responsible for both you o/s s/w layer and db s/w layer. This makes it a lot easier on your part when dealing with complex errors that are not easily isolated (at first) to the o/s or to the db - and then having to deal with different vendors, deal with different support methodologies used by them, and having to play the go-between. (been there, done that - very unpleasant experience)
Other motivating factors - OEL is basically RedHat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) from Oracle. RHEL is one of the most widely used and popular Linux server distros. It is well supported by the Open Source community and by commercial vendors.
Now if you were going to run Apache or JBOSS or something else than Oracle.. then OEL makes less sense. But add Oracle to the mix, and IMO, OEL should be the first consideration of distro to use.

  • Suggestions for upgrading ODAC version

Earlier today I downloaded the "64-bit ODAC 11.2 Release 4 (11.2.0.3.0) Xcopy for Windows x64" software package. As per the instructions, I also downloaded the 32-bit "ODAC 11.2 Release 4 and Oracle Developer Tools for Visual Studio (11.2.0.3.0)" installation files. I'm not sure where to start, though.
I already have the following Oracle products installed....
    - a single Oracle home (Oracle 11g client),
    - an Oracle 11g Release 2 XE database server, and
    - the 64-bit Oracle Data Access Components (11.2.0.2.1) in an Xcopy installation/deployment.
I am using the Oracle.DataAccess library in some existing web applications and while I really want to try out the Entity Framework support in the new version of ODAC, I want to make absolutely sure that I don't screw anything up while getting this new version installed.
Do I need to uninstall any of the existing Oracle software? I've read the install guide and the FAQ but cannot figure out what's the recommended approach in this sort of situation. Any and all constructive suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks!

Thanks for the prompt reply, Christian. Trying the 32-bit ODAC installer first seems as though it might still cause a few problems since it will update the VS2010 tooling. As a result, any projects I'm working on right now could be affected, right? You need to upgrade the tools to be able to use the Entity Designer. You don't have much choice if you want to use Entity Framework.
Also, I'm still unclear on un -installing existing ODAC versions....is that needed? Can I have them side-by-side and then just reference the appropriate versions of the Oracle.DataAccess libraries? Yes you can have the side by side.
The biggest thing for me is making sure that this sort of upgrade doesn't break existing projects and applications. Also, I'd hate to upgrade my local machine and then run into issues when >updating the servers hosting our existing apps that depend on the Oracle.DataAccess libraries.Maybe you should do your experimentation on another machine or in a virtual machine until you feel more comfortable with everything. We make it possible to have different versions of ODP.NET side by side, and this well documented in our documentation. But of course if you make a mistake, you could break things.

  • Suggestions for Upgrading to iPod Touch v 1.1.1

This is the procedure I used and it worked without a single hiccup:
    1.  Disconnect the Touch from the Computer (Unplug the USB connector from the Touch, NOT from the Computer).
    2.  Reset and Erase (Two Seperate items) everything on the Touch.  In essence, you are restoring the Touch to the factory specs, the way it was out of the box, NEW.  Make sure the battery is fully charged.
    3.  Start iTunes and Download and Install the new version, which is v 7.4.3.1.  After the download and install Reset your Computer.
    4.  Start the NEW version of iTunes.  Now turn off all of the following:  A.  Screen Saver,  B.  Firewall,   C.  Anti-Virus Program, D.  Ensure ALL programs have stopped before proceeding!
    5.  Connect the Touch to the Computer via the USB connector.  iTunes should be opened and ready for you.  As soon as iTunes recognizes the Touch and you see it on the left side column, highlight/select the Touch and go through each tab and TURN OFF ALL Syncing!  Do this quick, you do not want any sync's at this time.
    6.  Go to the first Touch screen within iTunes and now select the upgrade.  It will then download and install automatically.  Their should be minimal if any assistance needed during this phase.
    7.  Upon completing the upgrade and subsequent installation, your Touch will reset itself.  After the reset, turn on the Touch.  Proceed to the SETTINGS and then GENERAL and then ABOUT.   The 6th line down, you'll see your NEW version 1.1.1.
    8.  Now sync up the TOUCH and do what ever you do with your TOUCH!  ENJOY!!!
Summation:  If you follow these steps and do NOT take a short cut, all of your upgrade wows should be but a distant memory!  Take your time and get it right the first time!
I followed these steps and my Touch upgraded without a single hiccup.  Since the upgrade this unit has been FLAWLESS (Knock on wood), with any problems what so ever!
    Good Luck!!!
    Gunny
PS: I do not think I missed anything, but if some one thinks I did please let me know!

    Go to:
    SETTINGS
    RESET
    RESET ALL SETTINGS
ERASE ALL CONTENT AND SETTINGS (This will do both, but I always try the Reset Setting alone first to see if it resolves the problem. If not, I move to Erase All Content)

  • Use of Adjust function to copy standard config for Upgraded system

I have worked on a number of different ERP 6 systems that have been upgraded from previous versions.
Some of the basic standard delivered config will be missing and there is a simple task of using the "adjust" function to copy the standard config  from client "001" to the developement client "XXX"
However I know have a client who has the missing config in the dev client "XXX" but when you use the adjust back to "001" there is nothing there.
Do you know a way to re-create the core config?
An example is in Dispute Management - if you go to the case type config. SAP delivers F_DM as a base - but there is nothing there.

  • Feature Suggestion for Keyboard System Preferences - Modifier Keys

I recently picked up an iMac and it came with the new low-profile aluminum small keyboard -- without the keypad.
I really like the small keyboard except for one thing -- the placement of the fn and control keys. The larger keyboard has three modifier keys on the left side: Control, Option, Command. The small keyboard has four: fn, Control, Option, Command.
It is annoying to switch between keyboards where the control key is in a different spot on each one. Retraining my finger on a per-keyboard basis is hard.
Apple thoughtfully provided in System Preferences a Keyboard control panel and it thoughtfully provided a "Modifier Keys..." popup to allow you to reassign the modifer keys. A great feature.
The problem is: you can't use this to modify the behavior of the 'fn' key. It is apparently hardcoded.
If I could use the modifier keys dialog to change the 'fn' into a 'Control', then I could use this keyboard without swearing everytime I miss the control key.
Another feature that would be great would be if I could also have different bindings for the modifers on the left side versus the modifiers on the right. That would allow me to reassign one of the right side modifier keys (that I never use) to be an 'fn' key.

I'm in the exact same boat as you...that Fn key is driving me nuts. I tried DoubleCommand and some other things as well, but the only thing that's coming close to what I want is a free download called "KeyRemap4MacBook."
Just go under the "Remap Fn Key" section and you can basically have it act as the Command key. (I actually always had my Command and Control keys swapped, so now both the Fn and Control keys now essentially act as the Command key.)
There are a few quirks I haven't figured out -- I can't seem to do Forward Delete -- but again, it's the only thing I've found so far that works.

  • Need suggestions for upgrading my hard drive...(700 gigs, completely full.)

I like having a large internal drive. I want to buy one of those Western Digita 2 Terabyte SATA drives and put it in.
Problem is, I'd need a way to time-machine the 700 gig drive first. And for that I'd need an external 700gig drive. And a lot of free time.
    Any suggestions?

All you need to do is connect an external drive to your iMac and run Time Machine, if you are going to put a 2 TB drive inside your iMac you are not going to get any much larger than 2 TB right now. My recommendation is to rethink the way you store things. I would recommend instead of one large internal drive to get 2 external drives, all being FW 800 for speed. You could do something like this.
External HD #1 used as a bootable clone to the internal drive. This drive does not need to be large, less than 100 GB would be fine. You can create a bootable clone using SuperDuper or Carbon Copy Cloner.
External HD #2, move most of your data from the internal drive to this drive. If you get a FW 800 drive as recommended you will still have plenty of speed and most likely not perceive any loss in performance.
External HD #3, use this as your Time Machine Drive. This doesn't have to be FW 800 but it does make it easier if it is because you can daisy chain all the external drives together.
It's not cheap but it is a more efficient way to work in my opinion.

    Roger

  • Suggestions for upgrading from 4.5-- 6.0

In the old days only clean installs were recommended. Is it still best to remove FCP 4.5 and DVD 3 before installing 6.0 and 4? Actually, if it wouldn't confuse the OS, I would like to leave them both on the system. (When I upgraded from 4.1 to 4.5 I had them both running, without any problems, while I was testing the upgrade.) Please advise.

    Hi
It sounds as if one of the backlights or the backlight inverter has failed. From posts I've read in the past, if you take the display to an authorised Apple dealer, the quoted cost of repair may well be close to that of simply buying a replacement display. There is information available on the web if you want to attempt the repair yourself though. The following mainly relates to the Apple 17" Studio display, which seemed to suffer from a particularly high number of inverter failures, although I expect the techniques are the same.

There seems to be a problem, just now, with the USB 3 ports on the new MBP's supporting eternal USB 3 drives. Some people have no luck at all - can't even recognize the drive - and some are reporting USB 2 speeds (those who drives are recognized). I'd call a dealer such as LaCie or OWC to see if they have USB 3 drives that actually work with MBP's with USB 3 ports. You may have to wait for a software/firmware update.
