Suggestions for web hosting

I'm looking for suggestions on how to easily transfer my website to another host as mobileme is going away. Thanks.
KelleyH

I use ix webhosting. Their plans start as low as $3.95 a month & they have excellent customer service. If you live outside of the US a related company worth looking at would be Host Excellence.

  • Please suggest good web hosting company.

I've had my web sites hosted with a company for the past four years, but in the past few months, and particularly the past few weeks, their service has gone to crap. I couldn't access email for hours today.
Can anyone suggest good web hosting companies? I don't need advanced features like being able to use BlazeDS and ColdFusion, but I need stuff like PHP, MySQL, Perl, Python, Linux or Unix, Ruby on Rails, AND QUALITY 24/7 SUPPORT.
    Thanks in advance.

How much you looking to pay??? and how technical are you?
I used to have a private server for 135 a month, installed whatever and did whatever I wanted on it, it was pretty liberating...Just remote into it, and admin'd the thing.
For email I just used google, routed my domain through google and was good to go, no headache of setting or managing some exchange server and it was free, they do have a pay option, which is fairly priced if you need tech support, but google's never been down for me...

  • Configure DNS on Snow Leopard Server for Web Hosting

    Hi Everyone,
I put together an article on my blog about Snow Leopard DNS setup for web hosting. http://www.mkahn.com/?p=279
I'll be revising it over the next few weeks to make it more informative based around feedback. Let me know if you have any questions or trouble setting up DNS on Snow Leopard Server for web hosting.

Thanks for your replies. I realize I'm not making clear the way this network is configured . Also, the only services running on the Snow Leopard server are (at this time):
    dhcpd - in the 10.136.31.x range;
    dns - same as before;
    planned to add are:
    Open Directory (for network logins)
    Software update;
    Web (only on the 10.136.31.x Ethernet);
    mySQL (localhost only - for moodle);
NAT is not set up on the Snow Leopard server itself. We have an outside router, a Cisco 2811. This router provides routing for both the public IP range, and the NAT range is configured in this router. The forwarding dns is located in LR and Fayetteville. So what I need is dns on Snow Leopard to forward outside queries to the state DNS servers, and resolve the local NAT IP only for Open Directory and a set of Snow Leopard clients.
Is this going to be possible?

  • Looking for WEB HOST that I can do servlets and applets on

    Hello everyone,
Does anyone know where I can buy web space that will allow me to run a servlet and applet from. I have been shopping today and I had difficutly finding one.

Hmm.... well duffymo. I have gone to a number of sites through Google looking for web hosting sites that support java and I must be picking all the wrong ones to look at because I have only found one in Fremont out of 25-30 that I have looked at.
I guess duffymo you can say what you want in a forum, but usually answering a question with a question isn't very helpful nor appreciated.

  • ColdFusion License for Web Hosting

Can I just buy CF8 Ent and use for webhosting?
I've a bunch of linux hosting. My friends want to rent a few
and use for their CF app but I'm not sure that I can use the CF Ent
that bought from Adobe Store or from a distributor for hosting
services? Or I have to use some special licensing from Adobe for
    that kind of thing?
Not sure about that. Because I've heard that MS has many kind
of MS Win Server licensing (web hosting != internal company web
    server)
    Please suggest!
    Jedt S.
    Bangkok

    More information....
What I've concern is the part in license file of CF8 that
I've (tried) reviewed with my poor English and Law knowledge.
    2.7.4 Prohibited Use.
Except as expressly authorized under this Agreement,
    Licensee is prohibited from:
    (i) using the Software on behalf of third parties;
(ii) renting, leasing, lending or granting other rights in
the Software including rights on a membership or subscription
    basis;
(iii) providing use of the Software in a computer service
business, third party outsourcing facility or service, service
bureau arrangement, time sharing basis, or as part of a hosted
    service; or
(iv) using any component, library, or other technology
included with the Software other than solely in connection with its
use of the Software. Notwithstanding the foregoing, with respect to
a Production Software License only, Licensee is permitted to host
the Software (including the accompanying Macromedia JRun Software)
for use by persons other than Authorized Users.
The number (iii), last sentence is the a bit curious for me
    and my friends.
Any Adobe guys here? Or someone from CFDynamics or cf hosting
    services?
    Thanks in advanced!

  • How to replace .mac account with iCloud for web hosting?

I have a website that I created on MS Frontpage and have been uploading that to my .mac account for years.  Eventually I'll probably change to iWeb, but for the time being I just want to make it active again.  With iCloud, my .mac account was deleted, and I am just now getting around to updating.  The question I have is whether or not this same funcationality exists now that .mac or mobileme is  no longer around.

iWeb is no longer being developed or supported by Apple but it is still functional under the latest OS X...

  • Suggestions for website hosting os 10.9.4?

I need help with: selecting website hosting providers and/or webmail/email hosting provider; suggestions?
    I have:
1 mac-mini late 2012, i7 quad core 2.33 Ghz, 16GB RAM (yes, had RAM upgraded at MAC store before bringing it home) 750 GB hard drive, OS Mavericks 10.9.4 as my Primary desktop computer, with HDTV as monitor via HDMI cable. USB wireless wave keyboard (MAC's smaller bluetooth keyboards aggravate Carpal Tunnel Syndrome,), MAC optical/super-drive (aren't they the same thing?) via USB.  I've run it appx 18 months without issue except the mail app (I know; join the club).
MacBook Pro 13" Retina display, late 2013, i5 Intel 2.6 Gz processor, 512 GB flash drive, 8 GB RAM (2 x 4 GB RAM chips/card/white-thingies-whatchacall'ems), OS Mavericks 10.9.4. It's slow, but otherwise fine for most uses. Same MAC/Apple bluetooth 'magic' mouse used for both, sometimes trackpad on notebook. I use native notebook keyboard and just rest hands frequently.
    iPhone 5s iOS 7.1.
My problem: I originally set up my 5 gmail accounts on MAC-mini and iPhone per support page instructions. Ran 'connection doctor' more times than I care to count, and always came up saying setup was correct. I was unaware of problems until some eBay customers and family mentioned that I hadn't written them in weeks and that I was not responding to their emails.I went to my accounts on gmail server with Safari (7.0.6) and there were more than 100 emails in each inbox that hadn't made it to my mail app, and several 'sent emails' in both trash and inbox, but not 'sent' folder (the circling about of gmail many have mentioned before me).
I have set up NO EMAIL ACCOUNTS on MacBook Pro, not wanting to subject it, nor me, to google-mess. (bought it because I will be laid up with surgery on my old dancers'  feet for a few months and cannot use stairs (4-story house)
What I have done so far:
Prior to owning the MacBook Pro, I bought and downloaded 3 different mail apps which purported to handle gmail. All three had the same cycling and connection issues. (mail pilot most recent, will amend post when I find names of the other 2), They and were cumbersome, didn't interact with calendar and notes as purported, etc.
Then set up account at "fastmail.fm" per recommendation of one of the online MAC magazines exactly as directed on fastmail.fm. It worked on iPhone, but not on Mac Mini. Deleted it, closed account.
I researched website hosting to begin the learning/building/set-up process; makes sense while I am laid up (MacBook Pro 13" Retina by now) AND TO HAVE EMAIL ON DESKTOP. Settled on GoDaddy which has just refunded everything I spent on the site, because after weeks of effort, and trial with various hosting levels and domains, NOTHING WORKED. Used Adobe CC Muse and Dreamweaver to build sites. Both said they had uploaded on MacBook Pro, (used FTP app from App Store and then Muse built-in uploader) but while the proper file sizes (on Go Daddy) were bigger, no websites were visible "Something Cool Coming Soon" persisted.
Webmail accounts I set up (cPanel) on native MacBook Pro app with 2 different Go Daddy domain names failed. They worked for about 2 hours then simply stopped sending and receiving at all.
Many calls and online chats with Go Daddy support were non-productive.
Additional info: Makes sense to have website which I can grow into e-commerce site as I learn. I sell custom and restored Harley-Davidson motorcycles online and Vintage OEM Harley parts. Ebay is okay, but limiting. Wish to use own site separate from/in addition to eBay eventually. When I learn enough ..... yes I'm at novice to website building and management, only used Apple products about 2 years. Yet after decades of fighting with Windows-based PC's and Androids, I'm no stranger to computing, the web, and computers in general.
What I want: Can someone please suggest SOMETHING that JUST WORKS??!!
NOTE: I live in rural area so HughesNet satellite internet connection is my ONLY option (slow compared to fiber optics, but fasted Hughes offers -- maybe VZW 4G/LTE could be tried, but I'm under contract with Hughes. Cisco Linksey 2500 Router. I don't know if this is relevant or not.

Click the ≡ Menu Button in the top right, then the Preferences icon in the panel that opens. If that icon is missing,
    # Click the ≡ Menu Button in the top right.
    # Click Customize in the lower left.
    # Either drag the Preferences icon from the customization palette on the left onto the panel on the right, or click the Restore Defaults button.
If you somehow had Google Calendar integrated into Firefox, that feature was provided by an add-on.

  • Server for Web hosting and email (only  for 3 domains)

    Hello guys,
I want to setup mac mini server for my company which will host only 3 web sites and email server for the moment.
    What i got so far,
    01. I have Macmini server
    02. I have static ip address
    03. I have router (vigor 2700) which forward the external ip address (my ip start from 87.197.XXX.XXX) in to my Server using DMZ hosts
(So i have 192.168.1.20 as my server ip address(local) and when i point 87.197.132.48  from out side (using web browser) i can see Mac server page)
So can i setup the server using this infomation. Just want to make sure that i allready got everythign to setup the server.
1st question : Do i have to all information to start this ?
Please help me with this first, then i will have more  questions latter.
    Thanks in advance

Migrate out of 192.168.1.0/24 (and 192.168.0.0/24) as those will cause problems for your eventual use of VPNs to connect into your network.  Most every coffee shop and home network on the planet uses those, and the IP routing inherent in a VPN doesn't appreciate finding the same subnet on both ends of the VPN.  The earlier you get your network out of those particular subnets - and preferably over to a subnet somewhere within the 172.16.0.0/12 or 10.0.0.0/8 blocks - the easier the network migration will be.
Set up your internal DNS services and your external DNS services (I'm assuming your local DNS server will not be delegated to serve DNS publicly) and particularly establish an A record in (at least) your public DNS referencing your mail server, and then enter that mail server A record entry as the MX mail exchange host for each of the three domains, and set up three virtual domains on the mail server.
If your gateway is sufficiently capable, you can have a separate domain or subdomain within your network, and have all your "public" names hosted externally.  You can then use example.com outside, and example.net inside, and any example.com references from the outside or from the inside will resolve to your external static IP address and (if your gateway has the ability to "reflect" traffic to the public static IP) it'll all work most easily.  If your gateway isn't capable, then you can also host the example.com domain internally in your local DNS server, but that means maintaining two parallel sets of DNS entries.  Or you can get a more capable gateway.  (I did not research your gateway.)
You'll want to read the Apple mail service documentation around alias entries, as there are two ways to do this.  See the stuff around pages 73 and 77 in that document.  Better still, just skim that mail service administration manual; that'll get you an introduction to the whole area and some familiarity with the general terms and concepts, and that manual is fairly readable.
Then read the TopicDesk Spam Documentation.
If you don't have IT staff around (some of your time, as well as that of others) to dedicate to this mail server management (including user management, troubleshooting, backups, etc.) hosting mail externally can be a good trade-off.

  • Suggestion for Web Gallery Logic

I'm not sure if the Aperture Devs read this discussion board and take feedback through it, but I thought I'd try anyway. I think one thing that would really help me in my workflow would be if Aperture's Smart Web Gallery had a few more options. A couple in specific, I'd like "not" logic with the keyword - for example if I put the keyword "Private" on any photo I don't want published, I can create a web gallery to grab all photos without that keyword on it. The way I have to do it now is give a specific keyword to every single image in my library except the few I don't want to end up in there. Works, but isn't ideal.
The other thing I'd like there is a better Calendar option. The current method only allows me to select a specific date, instead of a range. I'd like to tell it to grab any photo that's less than a year old. That way everytime I generate the gallery I get all my new photos, and anything over a year old just drops off the end.
These little additions would really help me, and they seem like things that other people would be able to use as well.
    Thanks for listening!

    hello, vortec4800
quote: "or example if I put the keyword "Private" on any photo I don't want published, I can create a web gallery to grab all photos without that keyword on it. "
since version 1 Aperture has been able to do this. when you do a query in the library use Keywords and click on all the keywords you want except for "private" and select Match: "All" instead of Match: "Any."
photographs with the word private will not pull up.
quote: "The current method only allows me to select a specific date, instead of a range."
since version 1 Aperture has had the capability to do this. select Calendar and select the first date you want the query to begin and then Shift click on the last date.

  • Suggestion for web module

My workflow of capturing, editing, managing and publishing images on the web could be greatly enhanced if Lightroom's web module had the capability of creating and managing hierarchies of web galeries. Since this is not possible at the moment I still have to use another software to create my online photo gallery. Isn't this an obvious feature that's missing?

    I second this idea.
This is especially important for the situations when I have a hierarchy of the directories with photos. In this case I would like to be able to tell LR to produce web galleries with preserved hierarchy, instead of making a web gallery in each directory, and then designing the "top" gallery(ies) separately.

  • Web Hosting Manager for Sun JES?

Does somebody know about realizations of Web Hosting Manager (like Cpanel/WHM) for Sun Web server?
Does Cpanel port for Sun JES / Sun Solaris exist? Or some software system based on Java?

Sorry, if my question was incomprehensible. Some explanations below ...
I try to find solution, which will allow to use Sun Java System Web Server as comfortable platform for web hosting. Functionality of needed software package should be similar to functionality of Cpanel/WHM.
    See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CPanel (or directly http://www.cpanel.net):
"cPanel ("Control Panel") is a graphical web-based web-hosting control panel, designed to make administration of websites easy. cPanel handles all aspects of website administration in its interface.
WebHost Manager (WHM) is a web-based tool used by server administrators and resellers to manage hosting accounts on a web server."
Unfortunately, Cpanel/WHM is developed and supported for Linux (or FreeBSD)/Apache platform.
    Questions below.
    1. Does somebody know about installation and using of Cpanel/WHM on Sun Web Server / Solaris?
    2. Does somebody know about software systems with same functionality, but written for Sun Web Server / Solaris?

  • Web Hosting For Beggeiners

I would like to start hosting websites, however I am very new the the server end of mac. I am wondering if there is any where I can go to learn the ins and outs of Mac Web hosting? I was also wondering if there was any form of web hosting automation for mac (e.i. Plesk/Zpanel) one that would run on the Mac OS without having to install Parallels. Any help you can give is much appreciated.

This website is a good source of information for web hosting providers: http://www.webhostingtalk.com. It is a forum for web hosting providers so you won't find step-by-step tutorials there but it is a good place to search for answers to your web hosting questions. To my knowledge there is no native cPanel/Plesk type solutions for Mac. The market for that sort of product seems to be primary for Linux-based servers.
