Suggestions on a sound ca

Since my X-Fi fatality doesn't want to work with Vista and that's the only OS I have at the moment; I'll have to get myself a new sound card. The sad part is, I lost money and my fatality will be sitting somewhere under my bed in it's boxed not being used. I'm sure I can't sell it on ebay since nobody wants creative products anymore. I see you guys going out of business pretty soon or selling out.
Does anyone have a suggestion what type of card to use for windows vista ultimate 64 that will actually work. NO, not creative but other brands.

my first X-FI sound card was extreme music, if i set the volume above 80% i can hear noises and static sounds inside battlefield 2 game.. like if i ride a jet and change few to the outside of the jet, i hear a static noise coming from the jet engine, below 80% volume problem gone.
also the extreme music sounds too sharp for my hears taste that's why i replaced it with Audigy SE then later again about another CL
X-FI extreme music because both sound good and more balanced to me than the real X-FI but everything creative makes after SB live sucks.. filled with too many hardware / software bugs and problems
i hope they disappear from the pages of history soon. PLS O GOD PLEASE
we don't want them with us on this plant.. let them disappear!!

Suggestion for Brightness & Sound Dusplay problem.

After having upgraded to OS X 10.4.6 I started noticing I had no over my control of my brightness and sound display control. I reset my PRam but it did not solve the problem. I checked the keyboard controls.
However I did discover that by holding down the "fn" key and pressing the required keys, I can now control the brightness and sound control.
However I still have no backlight keys control.
Hope this helps.

Suggestion: Manipulation of Sound Profiles within the BB Desktop Manager

How many times have you had to adjust, readjust, and/or set up a new or change a sound profile. It is kludge at best on ANY blackberry device. Wouldn't it be nice to be able to minipulate sound profiles with a click or a drop down on your desktop as well????? Sure would save me time... Just a suggestion
Maybe someone has made this recommendation before.... If so great! If not, let's hear it from the mass-BB-users out there - input??

Same problem with all headphones and earbuds--just checked settings and Volume Limit was already off--starting to think it's a volume system flaw tied to videos and related sound. No problem getting plenty of sound volume for music, only videos.

Suggestions for new sound interface

I've been working with a Tascam US-122 for a while. It is a USB device

Apogee stuff is the top of the line for A/D (although I haven't heard a comprehensive description of the difference between their pro and prosumer level products)
If you need more inputs than the Duet provides, check out Presonus Firepod. $400, and it's got 8 ins/outs as well as a S/PDIF input so you can add on anything with a S/PDIF output later. It runs real well, with zero latency monitoring and DI instrument inputs. I've been satisfied with mine, and I added an Apogee Rosetta AD to the S/PDIFs..

Just bought a Macbook Pro and need suggestion about loading sound libraries

I just bought the lower end Macbook Pro 200 GB Mem/2GB Ram. I installed Logic Studio on it. I have about 129 GB memory left. My question is, how does anybody deal with installing Libraries. On my main desktop, I got a separate hard-drive which holds about 150 GB of sound Libraries which I pretty much use. I could not even put this on my Macbook. I would like to work on my files on my new Macbook but would have half of the sounds missing if I work on an existing file (transferring from my Desktop to my macbook) How does everybody else deal with this. A separate ext HD?

Hi Wolf,
First of all: semantics. "Memory" means RAM. It does not mean disk space. You have a Macbook Pro with a 200GB hard disk and 4GB of memory -- NOT a MBP with 200GB of memory.
If I understand you correctly, you want to be able to put all the sound libraries on your internal hard disk so that you have them with you when you're working away from an external hard disk. There's a couple ways.
1) Buy an extremely large hard disk (500GB) and take the laptop to a certified Apple repair center or an Apple store and have them put it in for you. Do not do it yourself, as that would void the computer's warranty. This should give you plenty of space.
2) Buy an external 2.5" USB/Firewire hard disk. They're very small and they don't require a separate AC adaptor. They come in various capacities up to 500GB. You just plug it in and put your sound libraries on it and then carry it with you when you take your laptop away from your desk.

As you don't say what suggestion it is that you've tried, I don't know whether you mean for having notifications muted, so you may already have tried the following.
Depending on what you've got Settings > General > Use Side Switch To set to (mute or rotation lock), then you can mute notifications by the switch on the right hand side of the iPad, or via the taskbar : double-click the home button; slide from the left; and it's the icon far left; press home again to exit the taskbar. I have an imac late 2006 . And I installed windows 7 it thinks the sound is fine but I cannot hear a thing on the windows 7 partition side of the computer.

"The troubleshooting audio playback did not help, it says it cannot find any problems. Windows 7 says I have a "High Definition Audio Device" sound card with no question mark. When I right click on the sound card and click properties under the general tab device status says "This device is working properly." This computer is an all-in-one imac therefore it has built in speakers however i tried pluging in speakers and they make almost no sound. In addition when I have them plug in when runnning mac snow leopard it make an ok amount of sound just not as much as the computers built in speakers. When I have them plug in when running wwindows 7 their volumn is max out with almost no sound. Windows 7 says I have a "High Definition Audio Device" sound card but i was wondering if its mistaken and the sound card has a different name but this is speculation. The windows 7 thinks the sound driver/card has the most up to date software. "

This is a common problem when installing Windows on a Mac.
AFAIA, you'll need to i nstall W7 specific audio drivers on the W7 partition.
However you may be better asking this question on an Apple forum.

Also while you are at trying to fine a answer, this mac has a camera and other things, how do i test everything to see if they work on both sides.

How do I figure out what is my sound driver is called? I think Windows calls it High Definition Audio Device however something about the windows is mistaken because I have no sound. But when on the mac side I do not know where to look either. If I can find out what the sound driver is called then I can fined a update download. The other similar questions that were answered suggested that the sound driver needed updated.

Didn't get exactly what you re trying to ask. But if you want to buffer an mp3 before playing you need to do something like this:
mp3File = new Sound();
var context:SoundLoaderContext = new SoundLoaderContext(5000, false);     //Buffer audio for 5 seconds before playback
var songRequest:URLRequest = new URLRequest(songURL);     // Our song that we want to laod
mp3File.load(songRequest, context);

Sound in Eschalon Book I demo

Hi. I managed to get the Eschalon Book I demo running (I needed the mesa package), but no luck with sound. I've tried using the "default" setup that's packaged, and installing OpenAL, but at best I get a faint, distant whine, which might just be the volume settings as I try to adjust them.
Any suggestions? My sound setup is working perfectly at present (alsa-lib on maestro3), for most games and mplayer playback.

Music or sound equalizer app

Any suggestions for a sound equalizer app that runs on TB v 2.2.0? I use Spotify, so don't need another media player with integrated equalizer. I can find some apps for v.2.3.0, but I don't want to wait for that update.

HELP. I have no sound on iPhone 4S. No problem until today. I searched this site and tried some of these solutions, but they did not work. Is this an Apple problem?

Sounds on my iPhone 4S just mysteriously disappeared today. They were gone when I woke up this morning. It's like somebody sneaked in the middle of the night and stole them. How do I get SOUNDS back on my iPhone. I searched several sites and read solutions from blowing air into connection port to putting phone in freezer. HOW do I get sounds back. I do not use headphones or any attachment for my phone. I do not download movies, music or games. I only use it for phone, texting and surfing the web. Any suggestions for getting sounds back again? THANK YOU.

Also try:
1. Resetting the SMC > Resetting the System Management Controller
2. Resetting the PRAM > Resetting your Mac's PRAM and NVRAM
Then perhaps while you have it off and disconnected from the power, give the output jack a quick shot of electronic cleaner, then run a jack plug in and out a few times and follow up with a short blast of dry air.

Too many sound files... AS3 no worky

I've created this little program to test with. It works perfectly for 5 or less sound files/for loops. As soon as I do more then that the sounds stop working. Everything else is fine... just no sound. My plan is to have the xml file determin how many movie clips with attached sound files to create. I'm planning on having tons of movie clips and sound files once this is all finished. No luck so far
Is there a limit to how many sound files a swf can reference? Any other ideas why the sounds aren't working for me?

Dmennenoh, pulling the playSound function out of the other functions worked perfectly! I should have known better. Even though everything is working correctly I am now recieving an error stating that "Parameter url must be non-null." I'm certain this has to do with the sound file urls that I am passing from the xml document... but if the sounds are playing the urls must be non-null already.
I tried changing the tl["snd"+i] to container_mc["snd"+i] as you suggested but the sounds would not play at that point. I recieve an error saying: "a term is undefined and has no porperties." Below is how I built it:

No Sound Heard

I am hearing no sound from jingles or my podcast recordings in Garage Band, any suggestions?

No sound from the Jingles means you probably need to install them from one of the install DVDs that came with the computer, usually Disc 2.
Are you saying you've recorded a Podcast and now can't hear it?

HELP....need a good sound card that works with Windows 7 64 bit

I've searched the internet and I'm seeing that folks are struggling with getting sound cards to work with Windows 7 (particularly the 64 bit systems). I know there are stability issues with the 64 bit system but I'm looking to install a decent sound card to improve stereo sound from my HP Pavilion (h8-1260t). The onboard sound is OK, but I'm looking for higher fidelity and the shortcomings of the stock sound chip is noticeable when played through my hi fi system. Don't really need 'surround sound' (I'm not a gamer) but I'm assuming any card that comes with this feature will also produce a quality stereo signal. I also like to archive music from steaming sources and have found a significant loss of sound quality once the track is saved. I'm assuming a good sound card will help with this. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

I suggest finding a sound card that you like and contacting the manufacturer's Customer Service to assure its compatibility with Win7 64-bit. They are the experts on their products. While I am not a fan of dedicated sound cards because their drivers are conflict prone, I would buy a Creative Soundblaster. They have been proven over time.
