Suggestions on how to improve a picture in PS?

Hello everyone,
I took a picture of a romantic place in Durham (England). You can see it here -- http://www.badongo.com/pic/5470867?size=original
I think there are things that can be done in Photoshop to improve this picture and do justice to the beautiful scene - for example, somehow accentuate the dramatism of the water reflections, or add lighting effects that can maybe compensate for the less-than-ideal time of the day when the picture was taken.
The first step would be to find the right cropping for the picture, my idea was something like this -- http://www.badongo.com/pic/5470940?size=original
Then, of course, a certain number of processing steps. I will try to put my rudimentary Photoshop skills to work and see what comes out, but I could really use and appreciate it if anyone would like to try their hand at this too. I want both to put this picture in a better light, and also get a tiny bit better at PS in the process. Some of the effects I had in mind are Light Source, Blur and PhotoFilter; and I'm sure there are a lot others that I don't know (or don't use creatively enough) that could be applied with nice results in this case. Once again, I'd be happy to receive any visual suggestions. Thanks in advance!

I would try shadow/highlight on a dupe layer first to bring up the contrast
in the tree areas, they are quite muddy
cropping like that makes it very grainy and not as interesting composition
it looks like a B&W shot till I see color in the people
have you alreday desaturated it?
maybe consider adding some more color into it or removing it altogether

Can you provide your explain?
Also, can you do an "set autotrace traceonly" and run it again and post results? The results of that would help people here provide more reasonable suggestions.
(Mine so far is only: avoid hints - that's a crutch and not solving the real problem).

How to improve the picture on a Samsung TV from a mac pro?

I currently have a Samsung HDTV [ 1920x1080 ] connected via a VGA cable to my 2007/8 Mac Pro through a NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GT card.
Can I improve the sharpness of the Samsung by connecting via the HDMI/DVI sockets on the back?
Having said that the NVIDIA doesn't have a HDMI/DVI output [ long thin USB type connector ] so presumably I would I need a converter.
Maybe a new video card?

VGA is purely analog, so the digital out put of your computer has to be converted to analog and then back to digital when it gets to the TV. DVI can carry both analog and digital; most likely it will use a digital connection and should be much sharper. Without the model number of your TV it's hard to say.
Having said that the NVIDIA doesn't have a HDMI/DVI output long thin USB type connector so presumably I would I need a converter.

Check the SQL statement from which u get the result otherwise
the code which u sent is optimized or u can use the binary search option for the Read statement for MATNR
while the rest of the code is optimized....
or u can use
loop at it_cdpos assinging <fs>.

u wont have to use modify statement for internal table for updating the line contents
since assinging it to field-symbol will dynamically modifies the contents.
this method is faster than the below modify process

Performance blocker on cFP-2020: file-I/O! How to improve?

Hi all,
after resolving my serial-communication problems I still have a performance problem. The code is way too slow which causes e.g. the ftp-server on the fieldpoint to not respond anymore to requests from my PC. I always get timeouts. I also frequently get loop-finished-late events within my two state-machines. I have now used the timing and performance monitor to sse which vi is taking so much time. The result: A file-I/O vi that writes data and log-entries into three different log-files. With a former verion I simply used one vi that appends a string to an existing file. However, since this function disappeared with LV8.2 I had to rewrite the code to use the following sequence of LV-functions:
- file open
- set pointer to the end
- write string
- file close
My vi shich calls this sequence is horribly slow - execution time per run is about 200ms and the top of the list in the performance monitor. Are there any suggestions on how to improve this code? I simply want to add a string to the end of the log-file......
The vi is attached. There are two features in the code which are not self-explanatory: The first sub-vi generates a new file if is used for longer than a preset time (15 minutes in my case). So the create-time of the file is stored in the filename and whenever the current time exceeds create-time plus 15 min. A new file name is created. For simplicity, the name is stored only for the first of the three log-files. The other two are created by string operations from the first filename. Second, whenever a file is "created", that means is does not exist yet, a data-header is written to the file, before data is appended.
Can you see simple improvements here that will accelerate this code? Maybe open the file only once and then append data subsequently and only close it when a new file is created? But I do not need all three files all the times, there may be situations where only one file is needed, and the others need not be created at all.

Thanks, that improved the performance of this vi by about two orders of magnitude. The application is now much more stable.
However, I cannot connect to the cFP-2020 anymore by ftp. I even swithed the fieldpoint to boot without vi.
To be specific, I can access the cFP and cd into all directories except for the directory with the data. I assume that there is a large
amount of files in it now, but used to work before even with lots of files. The only thing that might be not so nice is that there is a space
in the folder name, but that has been like that for years now and used to work.
Is there any reason (corrupted file or something like that) that can cause the ftp to fail on this specific directory?

How to Improve performance issue when we are using BRM LDB

I am facing a performanc eissue when i am retriving the data from BKPF and respective BSEG table....I see that for fiscal period there are around 60lakhs records. and to populate the data value from the table to final internal table its taking so much of time.
when i tried to make use of the BRM LDB with the SAP Query/Quickviewer, its the same issue.
Please suggest me how to improve the performance issue.

To make the rider stand out, I create a mask around the rider and then blur the background with Gaussian Blur. This results in a noticeable blur around the outside of the selection. I have tried using Feathering as well as other Refine Edge Tools. The only thing that works is to go around the edge with the Clone Tool. This is time consuming and not totally successful. So, my two big questions are: (1) Is there a better (simpler) way to avoid the aura? and (2) If not, is there a way to remove the aura that is simpler??

The form is created using HCM forms and processes. I' am performing user events in the form.
User events will doa round trip, in which form data will be sent to backend SAP system. Processing will
happen on the ABAP side and result will appear on the form. First 6 or 7 user events works correctly,
the result is appearing on the form. Around 8 or 9th one, the wait symbol appears and the form is not
re-rendered. The form is of size 6 pages. The issue is not coming with form of size 1 page.
I was reading ways to improve performance during re-rendering given below.

It talks about wizard form design approach. But in SFP transaction, I am not seeing any kind of wizard.

how can i remove pictures from my droid turbo without having to use the touch screen on the phone at all? my screen is cracked and i am waiting on a replacement phone. as far as i can tell in order to access the phone storage through my computer, i have to use the touchscreen to enable it so that the computer will see it as a camera. I can't do that as the top half of the touschscreen is unresponsive. any suggestions? teaches me to use the backup services offered in the future, but i still need a short term solution for this time.

I'm sorry to hear your screen is cracked spence425. I know its difficult to use the phone while its damaged. I'm happy you are receiving a replacement device. Have you saved any of your pictures and other data to the cloud? Here is a link about the cloud http://vz.to/1mF0GIx . Unfortunately, you will be unable to remove any data from the phone if the screen is unresponsive but if you are looking to transfer data to your new phone, it would have needed to be saved via the cloud first. How do I resolve picture distortion in Adobe Acrobat?

The following image is a screenshot of the distortion we're getting in Adobe Acrobat (part of CS4). (The two pictures should be identical.)
This computer is running Windows 7 and Adobe CS4. We had this problem in the past with Windows XP and CS4, so we did a complete wipe of the computer and installed Windows 7 and CS4. After about 6 weeks or so, this problem has come back, but this time on Windows 7.
When we had this problem on XP, it affected various programs (Quicktime, Windows Photo Gallery, etc.), but so far it's only affect Adobe on Windows 7.
Any suggestions on how to resolve this? (My first thought would be to update the video driver, but I thought I'd first ask if anyone has any other suggestions since updating the video driver didn't resolve the issue when we had XP on this machine.)

Sorry to take a while getting back on this...The Adobe update did not change the picture distortion problem we were having. I downloaded the latest video card driver from NVIDIA's website. Since I installed it, we have had no picture distortion.

How do I transfer pictures from Messages on my iPhone, to iPhoto?

IPhone 4s, up to date on software. My daughter sends me adorable pix of our granddaughter through Messages. I can't figure out how to get them to transfer to iPhoto, either on my computer <MBPro> or even on the iPhone. Any suggestions?

While looking at the picture in Messages, look at the bottom corner for a box with an arrow in it, tap that and you can save the picture to the phone. After you do that, they will be in the Camera Roll and you will import them the same as you would any picture you took with the iPhone.
