Suggestions on InDesign Logo Format

Hi guys,
I made a CMYK logo which is just two words in InDesign. I would like to save or export a web and print version from it. What format do you advice me to use? Should i export it as EPS or PDF?
I made a test exporting as EPS, the file measure is 60x20 mm.
1) When i open the EPS in Illustrator a full A4 page. I don't know why does not appear in the original size file which is 60x20 mm, nevertheless it does looks good.
2) When i open it in Photoshop it has a terrible resolution but i guess if the original file is from a Vector software as InDesign i can always change the resolution while importing. Is that right?
If you advice me to use the PDF version that i guess that is easier if i just to apply the High Print settings from Export PDF.
Thanks for any info or advice.
Cheers,
S

To be very clear, Adobe has never officially or even unofficially deprecated EPS as a graphic arts exchange format.
That having been said, what is true is that we certainly don't recommend use of EPS as a graphic arts exchange format for new content, especially if that content is going to be used in a workflow that is PDF-oriented such as a workflow that includes InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat, and either PostScript or direct PDF printing (such as via RIPs using the Adobe PDF Print Engine technology). EPS simply doesn't support ICC color management, live transparency, layers, etc. and is effectively lossy if the content you are creating depends on these features.
If you are producing content that must be used by programs such as QuarkXPress or CorelDRAW, EPS might be a much better choice for a graphic arts exchange format.
The term deprecate used in relationship to software and file formats implies an impending future lack of support. For better or worse, there are literally many billions of digital assets throughout the world in EPS format. Adobe has no intention whatsoever of abandoning the users of these digital assets and/or requiring them to convert them to PDF. Given that most of these assets were created prior to widespread availability and use of color management and transparency, there is in fact nothing lost by keeping such assets in EPS format.

    Hi there
You haven't seen any replies because you posted this to the Captivate forums. Hang tight and I'll move it over to the InDesign forums where it may gain some traction.
Best of luck in finding a solution! Rick

  • Suggestions for creating LOGOS and GRAPHICS??

I create logos as kind of a "hobby". I usually use PAGES to create as most are manipulations of fonts, shapes and importing images, etc.
I realize I am limited by PAGES in terms of producing high quality images for reproduction.
Does anyone have a suggestion for the next best program to use? I don't have the patience or time to learn COREL DRAW - I'm hoping there is something in between PAGES and programs similar to COREL!
    SUGGESTIONS are really, really appreciated!
    Thank you.

I do monograms in Photoshop Elements which is really a program for photo manipulation but is a great program for graphic design. I went with Elements since it is a lot cheaper than the full version of Photoshop and has everything I need.

  • Crashing inDesign, bad format file, and more

InDesign has started playing not very nice over the past three weeks. It started with the app not responding if I left it idle for a period of a few hours. I would have to force quit. Then it started saying bad file format when i try to make a pdf. It has also told me that I it doesn't have enough memory and I should delete some files. Most recently it has escalated to crashing when I start the program and use Command O to open a doc. I am running a new MacBook Pro (6 weeks old) with OS 10.7.2, using CS 5.5. I use Suitcase Fusion 3 to manage fonts.
This was part of the last crash report generated:
    Exception Type:  EXC_BAD_ACCESS (SIGBUS)
    Exception Codes: KERN_PROTECTION_FAILURE at 0x0000000000000000
Does this mean anything to anyone?
Help! I need to get some work done!

It started with the app not responding if I left it idle for a period of a few hours. I would have to force quit.
Next time, run Activity Monitor and then View > Send Signal: Abort (SIGABRT) and upload the crash report to http://pastebin.com/ and post a link here.

I'll bet you 2:1 this is the source of problems.

Yes, it means InDesign crashed. 90% of crashes are this variety. The rest of the crash report is necessary. Upload to http://pastebin.com/ and post a link here.

Je voudrais savoir comment passer un logo au format ai au format pdf à partir d'illustrator cs6. Lorsque je le fais, le fond n'est pas transparent et le document n'est pas à la taille du logo...

  • Documented InDesign File Format

I am consulting for a large publisher who does not use InDesign at all. Their fundamental architectural rules require that they be able to repurpose content. That means being able to read the underlying file formats. For example, they save all their word documents in Word's XML export format so that their applications can read them and use the data for multiple purposes.
Is there any documented export format for Indesign that retains all the formatting information of the document?

No need to be an InDesign developer.
Just download the Adobe InDesign CS5 IDML Language Specification, which is linked from http://www.adobe.com/devnet/indesign/documentation.html.

  • How can I use InDesign Logo in word or e-mail signature?

    Hello there
I'm guessing this is easy for some of you, but all these things are new to me and so seem difficult.
A friend of mine has created a logo for my publishing company Lapwing Books - great! The book is finished - great!
But I want to use the logo as an e-mail signature and in word for stationary etc.
    How do I do that?
I tried simple copy and paste, which didnt work. And I've had a route around but can't work it out.
    Any help greatly appreciated
    Richard W Hardwick

I'm sure there's plenty of ways. But the quickest would be to select the Logo.
File>Export and select JPG and then make sure "Selection" is active.
Then insert the image into your email. Google the name of your email application and "insert image signature", e.g., "Outlook insert image signature"

  • Can I use InDesign to format several small multiple-page PDFs into one large multiple-page PDF?  I want to stack 6 identical 3"x4" PDFs (50 pages long) onto one 8.5"x11" PDF (50 pages long) without having to align each image on each page individually.

This seems like a standard thing that professional printers would have to do to efficiently maximize paper usage.  Can it be done with InDesign?

Okay, thanks!  However, just to make sure, can I place a multi-page PDF (or InDesign document) onto a larger InDesign document that will automatically align each page in the same place all the way down the InDesign document? I am not looking to place single PDF pages one at a time because that will be highly inefficient for my purposes (I am going to have over 400 different 50-page 3"x4" PDFs that I wish to stack up 6 times on to a 50-page 8.5"x11" InDesign document).  How do I acquire/use the scripts that automate placing multi-page PDFs? Thanks!

  • Hardware suggestion for Indesign 6 or CC needed

    Hi,
I need to buy a pc and I am unsure, which hardware to use, so Indesign will run smoothly. Where would be the emphasis (eg. RAM CPU harddisk or graphicscard)? Good graphic workstations from IBM and Lenovo seem to bee very powerfull, allthough I don't know, if there are not a little to overpowered.
    Regards, Sparmit

A PC can never be overpowered, but overpriced regarding what you want to do with it.
I use Indesign CS2 on Windows 7 on a Quad Core 2.7GHz with 4GB RAM and it runs smoothly. The graphics card is a normal desktop card. I don't know whether ID uses any graphics acceleration to speed up scrolling in high quality display mode.
The general problems with ID - and there are a lot - can't be solved with high power hardware. This is Adobe's task.
For example, it can hardly handle documents with >100 pages or complex PDFs placed as objects. The renderer is just too bad.

  • HT3387 Default printer not used despite selecting it in Sys Pref Print & Fax. I have tried all of the suggestions including Inspector Window formatting. The docs were originally created in AppleWorks

I have scoured these pages and cannot find a solution (is there one?) to the problem I have in printing to the default printer that I selected in Print & Fax. The documents were originally created in Appleworks (preceded iWorks/Pages) and "converted" to Pages by simply dragging them to a blank Pages template. Of course, I can select the desired printer in the Print dialog window but this can get tedious when printing multiple items. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This bug has existed for as long as Pages has, since iWork '05, & still has not been fixed.
The best workaround I've heard of is to create a desktop printer & drag the files to it to print.
And, most important, leave feedback for Apple, making sure you classify it as a bug. You can find it under the Pages menu > Provide Pages Feedback.

  • InDesign CS5 - Formatting of page numbers in an index

I created a book index and it looks fine except for a topic with multiple page numbers that extends to more than one line. Page numbers are separated by a comma and a space. Sometimes the line breaks with the comma going to the next line. Sometimes a page number with three digits will break after the first or second numeral.
    I'm using a PC.
    How can I fix this?
    Thank you.

I don't think so. Neither of those would be set to break numbers or punctuation like that. You might want to try a trip through .idml and see if that helps: Remove minor corruption by exporting

  • Losing word format when 'Placing' from Microsoft Word to InDesign

    Hi Everyone,
Whenever I place(import) a word document with some text/charts into InDesign the format seems to go all over the place and I find myself trying to put everything back in place(despite having done the formatting in WORD previously). Is this an issue with InDesign or am I doing something wrong? Please help me out..
    Thanks,
    Agassi

You'll have to be more descriptive.
Is it the styles like Bold, Italic, Superscript etc.?
Is it the layout? The tables going wonky?
When you import a word file you can go to File>Place, locate the file and then in the lower left corner of the Place Dialog Box is SHOW OPTIONS.
Here you can select multiple ways to import the file retaining or disgarding styles, footnotes, tables, numbered lists etc.
When you retain the styles the styles are not built the same as InDesign would have you build them. Unless you were meticulous about the Word Styles you used and created Bold Character styles and Italic Character Styles when building the Word file.
Otherwise you get all the text with Paragraph Styles that are overridden, like if you have a paragraph style with Times Roman and mid-way through the paragraph stylet he Times Roman changes to Times Roman Bold, well then in InDesign that is considered a Text Format Override, which is donated by the + symbol being active in the Paragraph Style Panel at the bottom. If you place the text cursor in this bold text and hit the Paragraph Override button (+) then it reverts back to Times Roman.
A nifty script to get around this is http://www.indesignsecrets.com/downloads/PreserveLocalFormatting.jsx
Copy that text to notepad or a text editor (not word as it upsets things) save the file as PreserveLocalFormatting.jsx and run the script on text in the document)
How to install and use scripts
    http://indesignsecrets.com/how-to-install-scripts-in-indesign.php
The script will create Character Styles for any text that needs it in the selected story(s)
    http://indesignsecrets.com/how-to-install-scripts-in-indesign.php
    As for Tables
I'm not a big fan of Word Tables anyway, and Word uses RGB anyway, so I prefer to strip out all the formatting in tables as Tabbed Text and then reformat the Table this way. I just find it does a cleaner job.
