Hey ear41, sorry for the delay - life! There are many variables involved
when comparing 24" to 27" monitors but the basics are pixilation spread. On
my Hp2711x I see no pixilation difference but I have on others. My old 24"
was beautiful, it was also 1920X1080 resolution, it's been repurposed as a
17" laptop dock monitor. The only difference I see is SIZE and I like it.
I'm really into CS3 animation and the larger screen really helps me define
detail, and it's all in the detail. I recommend you fine a store in your
area that displays these 2 sizes side-by-side and see for yourself before
deciding to spend the monies. All I can tell you is I love my 27 and would
recommend it to anyone/everyone. Hope this helps you! Oh, and I'm jealous

NAS suggestions please for iMac and MBP

I have an iMac (new style 2.8 Extreme with 750gb HDD) that I want to share the data with my MBP. I would like all my documents on a central drive that both machines read and write to.

Missing blue frame that shows around field when editing.

Often, when fields are close together, the blue frame that shows the field gets in the way of selecting nearby fields. I often wished there was a way to turn this off. Well, I got my wish. Now, I just see black dots around the field. I don't know what I did or how to turn this feature back on. Using LiveCycle 9.

Suggestions please for Narrator vs Background Music levels

HI Guys
I have recenty recorded some narratIons over some background music
Reflecting 4 weeks later on the recording and how I might have done things diffferently in order to improve things I came to the conclusion that there is not enough distinctiveness to the narrator whilst clashing with the dynamic range of the backgrOund music
Apart from hard limiting no other effects were really used.
How would everyone deal with this problem?
Simply Lower music levels?
Use compression on either or both Narrator and final mix?
Some other approach?

Perennial problem, this. Partly the correct answer depends, believe it or not, on the age of your target audience. The younger you are, the easier it is for you to discriminate between dialogue and anything else (not just music) going on in the background. So if you want to play safe, you arrange that the peak levels of your dialogue track are somewhere between 12-15dB higher than whatever is behind it, because that should do for just about everybody. That said, it's clearly easier to hear through some types of music than others, so if you have made the mistake of having something, say, percussive or even worse, with lyrics then this really does need to be quite a long way down.
But...
My personal take on this is, according to some people, rather harsh, although I think that it's perfectly reasonable; and that is that unless the music is adding something very specific and intentional, it shouldn't be there anyway. So I find the concept of 'background' music to be something of an anathma, I'm afraid. Have relevant music by all means - but then I want to hear it, and don't really want it talked over! FWIW, I happen to know that I'm not exactly alone in having this view either...

I had to change my password, and need to change my security questions, as they are wrong. Apple won't let me change the security questions unless I answer the old ones, which I cannot do. Suggestions please for how I can change my security questions.

Instead of rebuilding the entire batch of photos, can i rebuild only those that show black screen on edit?

i have been following the discussion on rebuilding the iPhoto files. My problem only involves some of those just transferred from my camera. Is it possible to 'rebuild' only selected photos?

Battery monitor app that shows ACTUAL drain

I see a lot of battery monitor apps that show a huge list of what the remaining time would be using certain features. I don't know what good this list of time is when you have a combination of them running.
I am looking for a battery monitor that shows what is ACTUALLY running on my iphone and what percentage it is contributing to the ACTUAL drain of my battery. If I have the bluetooth, WiFi and ipod running, I would like it shown in a list and the percentage it represents to the load (and possibly what added time I would gain by turning it off)
If the load of something running is really insignificant or absolutely required to have the phone operational, then it probably is not worth listing.
I want to have the question QUICKLY answered:
What can I turn off that is presently running to increase the remaining time on my battery?

Basically anything and everything running on the phone consumes power. A better place to start would be ask yourself what are the minimum services you need to have running? Once that is answered, turn everything else off.

No one here can answer that for you. Example: Wifi and 3G are essential for me. But you might not need either.

There is a screen that opens on a monitor that shows how much energy is being used by an application. Any body can tell me how do I find it.. ?
My lap is blowing the fan continuously and I know its because a lot of energy is used by any of the applications.. I would like to be able to monitor that.

Well, this isn't notebook community for one. For another Top is quite good and can show you a lot or stick with Activity Monitor with its GUI.

Energy = watts but you don't mean measuring what you are using off the wall outlet, rather the fan speed and temperature sensors.
If you know you will be doing something to stress the system, FanControl can set profiles and instead of waiting to get hot, kick up the fan rpm to something more useful first. Works well.
You could have software that is not well behaved. Or that you installed years ago that is not compatible with what you have now. When last you installed the OS whether it was an upgrade in place or clean install (and used Setup Assistant to import apps).

I have just downloaded the x factor App on my iPad. I have no sound. All my sounds are on, but for my keyboard..and. Not sure how to turn that back on as it's displaying on under settings in sounds. All sound from every other app is coming through. Any suggestions please?

Are you sure that you don't have system sounds muted? You will still have sound in the Music App and YouTube even with systems sounds muted.
If you lose sounds for keyboard clicks, games or other apps, email notifications and other notifications, system sounds may have been muted.
System sounds can be muted and controlled two different ways. The screen lock rotation can be controlled in the same manner as well.
Settings>General>Use Side Switch to: Mute System sounds. If this option is selected, the switch on the side of the iPad above the volume rocker will mute system sounds.
If you choose Lock Screen Rotation, then the switch locks the screen. If the screen is locked, you will see a lock icon in the upper right corner next to the battery indicator gauge.
If you have the side switch set to lock screen rotation then the system sound control is in the task bar. Double tap the home button and in the task bar at the bottom, swipe all the way to the right. The speaker icon is all the way to the left. Tap on it and system sounds will return.
If you have the side switch set to mute system sounds, then the screen lock rotation can be accessed via the task bar in the same manner as described above.

you are probably seeing the extended display.. to see ur main display go to pefrences then display steeings and turn mirroring on.

Hello, hope someone can please help. I've had my iPhone 18 months, not had any problems with using it. Trying to update the software to 4.0 on iTunes but it's just not recognizing it at all. It's not there under devices (infact, even the heading "devices" isn't shown), Tried a different USB port but that didn't solve it.
Have changed my startup (using msconfig) as Apple suggested, but again still nothing. Have downloaded the latest iTunes and *again* not working!!!!

Perhaps you have already done this, but I'd be sure to verify that it's not your cable...try a different cable and that will eliminate that as a source of the error.

I recently purchased an iphone 5.
All the settings have been copied over from my MacPro and all seems to be working fine EXCEPT for out going emails.
Emails come in even when I am out at work, but can I reply - NO - replies sit in the out box for days and then suddenly disappear. I have check all the settings and they seems fine. I have tried turning off the wireless and turning it back on. Some time that works.
Why am unable to send emails even when I am at home near my router?

OK, that at least means that you won't have to start from scratch again;-)
You could try to re-install only the SyncServices.framework framework since that seems to be broken or corrupt - using Pacifist, you can re-install only parts of the original system from your original disks.
Another approach would be to re-install the latest system update - this is probably the easier solution and might already be enough:

Suggestion: Please make a Visual Studio Solution Explorer that is similar to Windows 8 Start Screen

We have monitors now that are enormous and it is now the norm to develop on three or more monitors. Yet we still try to crowd project navigation info that pleads to be fully visualized into a tiny window as if expanding it is somehow a waste of space.
I mention Windows 8 start screen in the title of this post. I have no particular love for the start screen except that it is a different spin on a strict hierarchical display of information. I like that it has the objective of using all available
screen space to present information that would otherwise be shown in a tiny corner of the screen. So my suggestion in its most general form is for you guys to find a way to use the entire screen to allow a developer to quickly and easily navigate a large
VS project.
For example, even if I fully expand the Solution Explorer to take up the space of an entire monitor the top level nodes of my project take up a tiny fraction of the available screen space - I have to drill down up to 12 levels to reach my files. And when
I get to the point where I think I see the file I want, the higher level folders have scrolled off the screen so I loose my place in the project.
A couple of suggestions for a new Solution Explorer:
Edit: Make the Solution Explorer more like the Windows 8 Start screen or a file directory browser in the sense that Start Screen is a full-screen navigation screen versus a control that is primarily desigend to be docked. If I maximize Solution Explorer
on my monitor the MOST screen space it will use is about 20% down the left edge of my screen. Even with 80% of my screen left EMPTY, I am clicking and clicking and scrolling and clicking and scrolling in order to navigate to where I need to be. /Edit
Show an always-visible breadcrumb across the top of the window so the user can navigate up quickly and also maintain a sense of location within the project.
Show folders and files horizontally and vertically. USE THE ENTIRE WINDOW! Allow different views just as we see in Windows file explorer.
Allow (large) user defined icons to be associated with projects, folders and files. Instead of showing the same icon for every project in a solution, default to a unique icon. Thats why we use icons, right?
Allow projects and folders to have foreground/background color properties.
"Scope to this" on the context menu is great... please add the root name on the tab.
It would also be very helpful to display the full directory and solution name on the VS title bar to avoid confusion when working with different versions of the same project. There are a couple add-ons that do this... why has it become necessary for add-ons.

Sorry for the delay...
I did what you've told me, new account and manually copied my files from Time Machine. I had lots of permissions problems, but at the end, almost everything is in order... It seems it had to be with some of the Apple Preferences, but I can't be sure, as most of them were dumped to the trash can.
I still don't have my Mail Rules back, unfortunately, although I did goggled some. It is a pity, as I had around 30 or 40 of them, getting my mail in order to each of its mailboxes, but it is a small price as the rest doesn't show the before syntoms.
