[Suggestions to Apple] Year Composed and iTunes sharing...

I don't know if posting this is moot or not, but it would be great if iTunes had a info/view option to input "Year Composed" in addition to the "Year" which is used for the CD release. For example, I have a 2007 recording of Steve Reich's Music for 18 Musicians but the piece was composed from 1974-1976.
Another suggestion I had was if iTunes could notify when someone connects to your iTunes library through iTunes sharing.

Thanks for the feedback. As far as sharing goes, I know people can't modify the library, but you only know when someone is connected when you try to quit iTunes. I'd like to know if/when someone connects just while I'm on iTunes. It's not a big deal though.
I know you can put info in the comments section, but the "Year Composed" would be nice for sorting options. Thanks for your input though.

  • File and iTunes sharing doesn't work

    Hello,
I have am trying to share files and an iTunes library from my Macbook Pro (Early 2008 model.)  Since upgrading to Mac OS X Mountain Lion, sharing of all kinds has been acting strange.  In other words, file and iTunes sharing from my computer can't be seen by other computers, but the reverse is not true.
-- 1. iPhone remote app can't see my library:
While I can pair my iPhone with my iTunes library (iTunes 11) in the remote application, the Remote app simply says "Looking for..." without no name given for the library (on the remote app, the library shows up as a deactivated itunes logo with no name,) and then "Couldn't find ..."  i.e., it fails to find the library.
-- 2. iTunes library can't be seen on other macs:
I activated home sharing on my mac and another mac (Macbook Air 2011 with Mountain Lion and iTunes 11), I also set my iTunes preferences to "Share music over local network."     While I can see the Air's library on the MBP, I can't see the MBP's library on the Air.
-- 3. Shared folders can't be seen on other macs:
I can see shared folders from the Air on my MBP.  But to connect to shared folders on the MBP from the Air, I must enter the exact address, since browsing for my MBP on the network shows nothing.
I have confirmed that TCP port 3689 is open on the MBP.   Firewall is off.  The local network in question is my cable modem connection (no router) which I am sharing from my MBP by WiFi .  I am running OS X 10.8.2, iTunes 11.0.1.
I would appreciate any help anyone could give.
    Thanks

And you are quite persistent, Menu Boy, in offering pernickety and pointless prattle, in response to a "support page" on iPad's buggy Pages App.
Let's summarise, for those reviewing this threadless thread for app support..
Mobile pages works reliably for simple docs, especially creating letters and Menus for Microsoft's Kindy canteen (even on special days with nice big pictures).
When importing more complex docs and/or working with larger creations, it is prone to randomly corrupting files upon re-opening, along similar lines as Word (running on a PC).
So, Menu Boy, do they let you sneak into classes every now and then? What is the secret to their training? "Say after me, if any I.T. product works just some of the time, that's a job well done, and if something randomly stops working, we call that the user's fault... And if they complain, we call them names."

  • Apple Remote App and iTunes

    Hi
I've got the latest software on iTunes and my Remote App for iPhone and iPad.  I've noticed from tint to time that when selecting the source in the Remote App (I.e. whether to play music / films etc from iTunes or my AppleTV I notice the icon for iTunes DJ appears (icon is several CDs stacked on each other).  This only appears very occasionally and I have no idea what triggers its appearance.  I would have though it should appear there all the time.
Anybody have any clues as to what is happening and why?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    I have had and fixed a similar issue;
    Setup;
Linksys ADSL router/model (4 port wired and wireless)
    LAN Network = 192.168.0.x
Mac Mini wired into the router (on same LAN)
Airport Express wireless (driving my stereo speakers and acting as a wireless client on the same LAN)
Apple iPhone 3GS wireless with Apple Remore app
iTunes 9.blah (last 9.x version before 10 havent upg yet, iTunes all configured to use airtunes, remote speakers and remote app etc)
Now It will all work fine and dandy at first then if i stop itunes (and the remote app disconnects) after a while (5 to 10 mins) the mac goes to sleep to save power.
The mac doesnt wake up again to accept the connection from the remote app.
So I found an apple support article (cant find it now) that suggested that I set the "wake on lan" feature, this wakes the mac and itunes if the mac has slept. Its in the system preferences / energy saver (its something like "wake on lan" or "wake on network")
    This fixes it for me.
    Cheers

  • Vista and iTunes shared library - Admin vs. Standard User

Here's a good one.....I am the administrator of the family's Vista desktop computer, my kids are Standard Users. When I log in to the computer and bring up iTunes, I am able to see and access our shared library of music on our Synology DS207+ NAS. When either of my kids log in and bring up iTunes, the DiskStation appears on the left side underneath 'shared' but when they click on it, they are not able to access the music. A dialog box appears with the following message: 'the shared library "Disk Station" is not responding (-39). Check that any firewall software running on either the shared computer or this computer has been set to allow communication on port 3689.'
Their Standard User accounts can access the music on the NAS through mapped drives and windows explorer.
I am running CA (Computer Associates) Security Center and the firewall has the same rules in place for all of our logins. Here is the strange thing, when I change their account type from Standard User to Administrator, they are able to access the shared library of music, no more dialog box with that message. I change their account type back to Standard User and again, they are not able to access the music, and they get that message again.
When I am logged in and enter the 'netstat' command, I see the following entry under foreign address:
    NAS:3689 Established
When the kids are logged in, I see the following:
    NAS:microsoft-ds Established
I've tried a lot of different things, too numerous to even remember or mention, all with no success. Some troubleshooting measures include:
    - change the kids permissions to the music folder on the DiskStation from read only to read/write.
    - disabled (not uninstalling) tcpip v6.
    - tried every combination of new firewall rule, to include ports 3689, 5353 and every port (and range) in between.
    - file and printer sharing is off on the administrator account, and is off on the standard user(s) accounts, but enabling it does not allow access to the library.
    - uninstalled Bonjour but once I do that, I cannot see the shared library anymore.
    - upgraded Bonjour to the latest version but still no success.
If anybody reading this has other suggestions, please respond.

I actually followed this, but I still had problems that I listed above. Is there any way that when you make changes to one account (even if there is only one main account where changes are made), the changes are automatically (or at least easily) applied to the other user accounts?

  • Zone Alarm 6 and iTunes Sharing

Can anyone advise how to get iTunes music sharing to work with an XP SP2 machine running Zone alarm 6? iTunes sharing is working with 6 computers on the network, 2 Macs and 4 XP SP2 machines that do NOT use Zone Alarm, but the two machines running ZA 6 will not share using iTunes. I'm getting a port 3689 blocked message from iTunes, but can't get ZA6 to open it up. Instructions on getting ZA6 to open that port for real, or getting iTunes 6 to share with ZA6 running would be appreciated. If I turn off the ZA 6 the sharing works immediately, so it's definitely a problem that ZA6 has with iTunes.. Sharing works perfectly on the machines running just the Windows firewall and the McAfee firewall, as well as the Mac Tiger machines. Its just a ZA 6 issue. (Yes, I know I should trash ZA6, the company stinks as does it's firewall, but I can't)
    Thanks,

I have another problem with IOS6 related to sharing contents with Itunes, wen i play a movie from my shared library at some random point i cant access the pause and rewing functions. So i have to basically close the app.
It never happend before i updated both Itunes and IOS.

  • Syncing all my devices (Apple TV, iPads and iTunes)

Since my Apple TV get's it's songlist from my iCloud account, I want it to match my iTunes account.  I've started using a product called SuperSync to achieve this.  I have over 10,000 songs and really tired of messing with duplicates and the poor organization that iTunes does.  So I've made my laptop the hub for iTunes. It's a PC running Windows 8.1 and iTunes 11.1.5.5. My library in "Preferences" points to my M: drive which is a NAS device.  When I sync with the iCloud account, I get duplicates for all my current songs on my NAS device.  So what I did was to move all my music off to an external USB drive and allow the sync from iCloud into a clean directory on my M: NAS drive. My goal is once this is complete, to copy the M: drive to my E: drive (iTunes Media folder) and change the preferences in iTunes to point at my E: drive instead of M:.  After that I will use SuperSync to sync my files between my E: drive (local iTunes Library) to my M: drive (remote iTunes Library). This is the only way I can't think of that makes any logical sense.  Any other ideas??

I would recommend to turn off the services that don't work properly or just disconnect your account for a moment and then add it back again.
On iOS: "Settings > iCloud" then turn off the services or delete the account for a moment
On the Mac: "System Preferences > iCloud
In most cases this helps to refresh thy sync process.

  • I'm unable to download Apple Keynotes vids and iTunes gimme an Error code (403)

I'm unable to download "WWDC 2008 Keynote address / Apple Keynotes" and iTunes gimme an Error code (403). Would anyone tell me what to do?

Either the service did not install when you set up iTunes, or it has been stopped for some reason.  If you are using Win7, go to the start orb, click, type services at the bottom. Then look in the window that opens for the Apple service(s), and start them all.  Then reload iTunes and try again.  If you don't find an Apple service, then you will need to install iTunes again, and be sure it is the current (10.2) version.

  • HT204053 Family shared Apple ID, Icloud and Itunes passwords & accounts confusing

We started out sharring itunes when kids were smaller and now they are older and have their own iphone5.  How do you share itunes (with one password) with the family and all have their own icloud with individual icloud information without it all crossing.  The Apple store said it was possible.  Any ideas how to separate the passwords?  Every time I change mine it makes the Apple ID and my Icloud the same and the kids have their own Icloud email and passwords they just set up.  Trying to make Apple ID and Icloud separate passwords and family share itunes or even split itunes up somehow if we have to.

You can continue to share the same Apple ID for iTunes on all your devices; it does not need to be the same as the ID used for iCloud.  If you change your iCloud account to a new ID you will be creating a new account, which will leave your current iCloud email address and photo stream behind.  Is that what you want to do?

  • Apple Tv 3 and iTunes 10.6.3

    Hi there,
Does anyone know why my Apple TV 3 will not connect to my home sharing network with iTunes 10.6.3? I have two apple computers. One computer has iTunes 10.6.1 anthe Apple 3 Tv connects just find, but does not conect to the mac with iTunes 10.6.3. What is the problem?
    stirred not shakened...

I had the same problem after upgrading itunes tonight on my WinXP machine.  After restarting Appletv, turning off home sharing on appletv and then reentered my id as different id, turning off then on home sharing in Itunes.  Nothing seemed to work.  I then rebooted my router and PC...no idea which fixed it but it seems to have done the trick.  I bought Appletv to get my music to my home entertainment center since it was the easiest to use Itunes...this frustrated the heck out of me tonight!!

  • Identical password for mobileme/apple ID/mail and itunes

how can i make my itunes password different from my apple ID/mobileme password?
I recently had 23 lots of 30 pounds taken out of my itunes account as a gift for someone i had never heard of in two minutes. they used 23 different passwords some had my name in some had my password with numbers ( none were my exact password )
I rang itunes who are doing nothing about it . They want american express to pay me back.
As a result i do not want my itunes account to have the same password as my mobile me/apple id password.
However when i change one, it changes them all.
    thanks

If you are using your mobile me login as your iTunes store account then you can't have separate passwords, they are one and the same account. However your suggestion seems to suggest you are wanting a strong password on your iTunes account and a weaker one for your email etc. Best to change to a strong password full stop. If you are worried about fraudulent transactions remove your card details from your iTunes account and fund it via iTunes gift cards.
Your credit card company is responsible for reimbursing you so contact them.

  • Apple TV 2 and iTunes-Device cannot be found

I'd be grateful for any help and/or advice.
Whenever I connect my Apple TV2 via microUSB to my Windows 7 PC to restore, the message pop out "Device cannot be found". I downloaded 5.2 firmware and restored the apple TV firmware by pressing shift key and it restored it perfectly well. Whenever I connect the device to my TV it works fine as well however the iTune message still says "device cannot be found".
Looking through the forum it appears that a number of other ATV owners have similar problem since iTune 11 release. Some managed to resolve the problem by restoring firmware however others like me are unable to do so. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks

Hi I have same problem too.
Ihave windows 7 at my home desktop and latest version of iTunes. I bought this apple TV 2 from a friend of mine couple of days ago. It works perfectly fine when I plugged into my TV however the home sharing is still linked to my friend's email address so I tried to restore it by plugging into my iTune but meessage pops out everytime that device cannot be found. I tried re-installing as well however results remains the same i.e. device cannot be found.
    Any help appreciated.
Please do let me know if you require additional information.

  • Multiple devices: Apple/iCloud IDs and iTunes

Hi - I have a headache trying to figure this out reading articles on line.
Can someone please provide a simple explanation to do the following, and being very clear on Apple ID vs iCloud ID? I can't believe this is so complicated, but judging by the number of stories on this, Apple really needs to put out something step by step.
Currently I have one Apple ID and one iCloud ID, using the same email address, and also is the same as my iTunes account. I have a iPhone 5 tied to this, and manage my wife's 7th gen Nano using the same.
I just got my son an iPhone 4S. I would like to manage all of the content on his phone (music, apps) off of my account, but I'm reading that he need to have his own Apple ID and iCloud ID to use FaceTime, iMessage, track his phone location, and to keep his iCloud documents separate from mine (which makes sense).
So would someone be able to give me a quick step by step as to what needs to be done where on his phone, and if I can keep my email logged in on iTunes, or if we need to log in separately will we still have access to the same library?
Thank you for any direction you can provide.

    My iphone 5s = apple id 1
    Husband iphone 4s = apple id 2
My ipad = apple id 3
Son #1 ipad mini = apple id 4
Son #2 ipad mini = apple id 5
For iCloud.. Not quite, you want the same ID for iCloud on your phone and iPad so you have the same info on each. (so perhaps ID 1 on both.
But if you want to share your music (assuming lets say its your ID 1 that has the iTunes account), you should all use ID 1 for iTunes.

  • Apple Remote Desktop and Itunes

I am using Apple remote desktop to connect to several servers with several users on each server. When Itunes is playing and I try to fast user switch, it will stop playing itunes on the user I am switching from.
Is anyone familiar with any problems like this? It is blowing my mind!
I am running the latest version of both Itunes and ARD.
    Thanks!
    Mike

It is if you are trying to stream it.
Users may want to stream their music into a third party program such as Ventrilo (as I do) to share their music (but not their libraries) with other listeners and speak on Ventrilo at the same time. You need two user profiles running Ventrilo at the same time, and two user profiles running iTunes.
When I roll over to User Profile #2 after setting up iTunes to stream into Vent in User Profile #1, iTunes stops playing. This is a recent change. It's annoying.
    How do I change it?
