Suggestions to Sony about Readers

I love your products and have stuck with Sony readers since the beginning not giving into the celebrity sponsor or the pricedrops because as we all know you get what you pay for sometimes. I am all over the internet commenting on reviews, blogs and Q and A forums supporting Sony readers.
My suggestions based on what people are saying and what I notice as well:
1. It would be nice to be able to buy sony ereader gift cards online and send them (or the code) to people as gifts online.
2. It would be nice if like Kobo there would be a choice when you purchase the book to send it as a gift and again send a code.
3. It would nice when you go into stores to be able to get the Sony ereader gift cards where all the other gift cards are just like Kindle users can do. I have myself tried to buy the cards at stores where your site advertises to sell them and they do not. I have to go to Best Buy to get them usually.
4. People did not even know a new ereader came out this October. There should be more advertising.

Great news from Sony about XDCAM Softwares and Snow Leopard.

Received this infos from Sony today and have think you would like to know about-it :
"Sony is currently studying positively to offer a solution to support Snow Leopard with XDCAM Transfer ASAP (much earlier than the previously discussed March 2010).
And will update to the market of its revised schedule in a couple of weeks."
I got the go for it and post it from Sony a few minutes ago , have a nice day.

Yes XDCAM Transfer 2.11 and XDCAM Browser 2.6 are now available for Snow Leopard.
Only XDCAM EX is fully supported at this moment but optical XDCAM HD is planned March 2010.

Suggestion to Apple about desktops...

My Personal Opinion: From what I've seen Apple has been doing really well with there newer products ever since the iMac came out. Though desktop PC's always outrule the price of a mainstream desktop. Of course, you cannot go wrong with the Mac OSX operating system. PC Users always say there is no great games for the Mac, and all the better games are for PC. But the majority of them have never used a mac, since I'm a PC gamer myself I dissagree with them all. I see alot of popular games for the PC like Call of Duty 2, Halo, Starcraft, Warcraft 3, and World of Warcraft that are made for the mac aswell but you need a high end mac to play it. The new Mac Pro is an excellent machine though the price is sky high. It's worth every penny though, and probably wouldnt need to be serviced at all since all mac's are very reliable. My sister bought an iMac 350 back in 2000 and she used it for a year, then was passed onto me, then I sold it to my friend, then he gave it to his little brother...and is still currently using it 24/7. It hasnt had any problems at all, which keeps the apple brand name strong to this day.
My suggestion: It would be cool if you could build a mac these days. PC's are so configurable but so unreliable (depending on what you buy) but the main problem with PC's is the operating system, Windows XP. I would suggest that apple should put a new kind of desktop in developement, thats not only configurable but very affordable. The Mac Mini is affordable, but it's very small and barely upgradable. The Mac Pro is powerful enough, and if there was something a little less powerful but overall a great system that has all the configurable options to plugin...lets say a video card, wireless network adapter, or even better...a sound card etc. I hope your thinking what I'm thinking, because you guys usually are... and I hope something like this is soon to come in the near future. If it was around the price range of like 800-1500$ it would be the most popular desktop around. That's if the PC-gamer enthusiasts catch on eventually.
In the meantime, I'm saving for a Mac Pro. I can't wait to get one but maybe by the time I have enough green stuff there will be more affordable options to an upgradable Mac. If anyone agrees with me, that's fine because that's just my opinion anyways. I had to chose a Dell over a slow iMac, only because I couldnt get a used mac off ebay (no credit card) and Dell was just around the corner. You learn from getting a PC though, it teaches you stuff about hardware and software and I now have a good overall understand of computers now. In the end I will always regret getting a PC though and hopefully my kids and my kids kids will grow up with Mac's just around the corner.

Page that appears when I click + to open a new tab... I set my home page as Google, but when I click + to open a new tab, I get AVG's search engine. In one solution, AVG suggested "open FF about:config...etc."

then... "change browser.startup.homepage_override.buildID AND browser.startup-homepage_override.mstone

A new tab opens by default as a blank tab (about:blank).
If that isn't the case then an extension has changed that behavior.

Suggestion: User Info / "About this iPod"

Something that my Blackberry has, that would be wonderful to see on an iPod, is a Menu Option for "About this iPod" that a user can fill out in iTunes (for the iPod properties), and also would appear on the iPod menu (as a setting, or as a choice to add to the main menu).
This would help with two things:
1) It would give information about the iPod on the screen, such as useage, serial #, etc. right at the user's fingertips.
2) If the iPod is lost, the finder can simply click on it and see who it belongs to by looking at that entry. I've lost my Blackberry, and the person who found it was able to return it to me because of this feature.
I imagine this would be a simple app on the iPod itself, and a quick update to iTunes to allow a user to add their personal info (and maybe a pic?).

First off, that feature is already on your iPod. Look under Settings/About. Mine shows my name and the Serial Number. True, it does not include your address or phone number, however, if your iPod has been registered, then Apple has that information.

How to get 2 important suggestions to Apple about iOS 6.

Hi all,
Does anyone know of a way of getting user suggestions to Apple?
The two I particularly want them to implement are:
1) Podcasts App is great. But given that a podcast is almost always a long spoken thing, surely it's lunacy for the iPhone to forget where you were in a podcast when you close it and go back to it later. Even if you don't close the app, if you re-open it, it takes you back to the root. Yes, if you choose the same episode it remembers at what point stopped listening but given that some of my subscribed casts have many dozens of episodes, numbering sometimes in the hundreds, I don't sometimes remember what episode I was listening to. Just make it go back to the ep that was being listened to!
2) Alarms. 10 mins snooze? Why of why can't it be customisable? A 5 min snooze is much better for my morning alarm. Not hard, come on Apple, been waiting for this one since iOS 3.

hi, i am sorry if i posted this in the wrong section of the forum but i do not know where else to ask this. My problem is that you are unable to store or add strings to lists. I have an assignment that requires strings ints and doubles all to be stored in a list. now my teacher has given me special code for a scanner in the class Reader. My problem is how do i use this special scanner in my other classes? pls help

It's probably that your Keychain password is not the same as your login password. If you configured your computer to log you in automatically, you may not have used your login password in so long you forgot it.
There is no way to retrieve the "login" Keychain password, but you can reset the Keychain from the Preferences menu: select it in the Keychain Access menu and select "Reset My Default Keychain". This will create a new, empty Keychain but the old one will be saved should you ever remember its password.
The result of this is that you will have to supply passwords for everything that requires it, since without your Keychain they will no longer automatically fill themselves. However, once you supply them and store them in your new Keychain, they will be remembered.

Snow Leopard and Sony eReader PRS 600

Is anyone else having a problem with this? I can get my computer authorised but not my eReader. Adobe Digital Editions and Sony are not responding to my queries about this. I need an Apple expert to tell me what to do!!!

I have a PRS 505 eReader that works fine with the Sony Reader Library s/w on Snow Leopard but is not recognized by Adobe Digital Editions...no problem I can download what I need with Reader Library. Recently bought a PRS 600 eReader for my wife and it does not work with on Snow Leopard. Same story on my wife's iMac running Snow Leopard.
When I boot to Windows XP on my MacBook Pro both the PRS 600 and the PRS 505 work fine with both Reader Library and Adobe Digital Editions (have read that Adobe Digital Editions do not recognize Sony ereaders under Mac OSX)
Conclusion: Just have to wait for Sony to get their act together and update the software/firmware to work properly under Mac OSX Snow Leopard (do not know how the PRS 600 works with earlier Mac OSX versions). Their latest firmware download for the PRS 600 on their support website is at an earlier version than what came with the ereader! Also when running Snow Leopard under 32 bit kernel the Ereader errors are even worse (hold down the 3 & 2 keys while booting up).
Suggestions from their help desk made things worse.....had to spend some time recovering from their ill-informed suggestions.
Pity about their software support. Once you have the books downloaded the Sony is a great machine to use.
I suppose patience is the key word here.

Sony told me to fly from Tokyo to Australia to fix my self cracked Z3 :(

This is absolutley ridiculous. The story: I am spending 40 days in Japan. 3 hours before my flight I wake up and find a hairline crack from the lower speaker to the edge of screen in the front glass. Most of the screen is unresponsive to touch making the 2 DAY OLD phone useless. The phone was in a 23 degree room sitting on a pile of clothes. It cracked totally by itself. Of course I had zero time to get it replaced in Australia, I had to make my flight. So now I am in Tokyo with a broken phone and I NEED a working phone. I need to for communicating, translating, navigating and also for work (I am a web developer and make lots of mobile sites and NEED a test phone). I was prepared for Sony to pull the warranty card, I am totally prepared to PAY to get it fixed (even though Sony broke my phone themselves by design). But the thing I am most pissed off about is the fact that Sony in Ginza, right on their tax free floor where they enourage people to buy Sony products and take them overseas said that I must fly back to Australia to fix my Xperia Z3. **bleep**???!! YOU FIX Z3'S THERE ALL THE TIME, WHY NOT MINE?.. Sony sells me a phone that breaks itself, then provies zero warrenty and then refeses to fix it even if I pay. It seems spiteful and childish and what did I ever to do Sony?... Thanks Sony, really great. Awesome. I have about 10 walkmans including the $1000 NWZ, I have the $700 HPA-1 AMP, $1000 MDR ex1000 headphones, a $2000 VAIO, a Sony 42inch LCD not to mention every PlayStation and handheld ever created. I have given Sony about 20K. Yet the ONE time I need them to provide me with a product that works they treat me like this... I have created a case with the ACCC already for when you refuese to fix it under warranty in Australia if it comes to that and I have registered two sony xperia domain names ready to create sites to go to PR war with you (as I said I am a web developer and great at what I do). But preferably I would like you to DO THE RIGHT THING and just fix my phone which broke itself so I can go back to enjoying my working holiday with my EXPENSIVE phone.

I don't know much about this, but you may be able to buy a comparable fan fron your local computer store - take the card in and ask the guy about it (I understand computer/graphics card fans are not very expensive).
It might be worth a try.
Of course, the card may not accept any other kind of fan - it all depends on how it attaches to the card.
If you do return the card to MSI there may be be postal charges etc. so the computer store MAY be your best, quickest, and cheapest option.
Anyway, it's up to you now - good luck and let us now how you get on.

Which would be the best camera for taking nature pictures. The Sony PMW-EX1 or the Panasonic AG-HVX 200? I gotgood information from you on the Panasonic but the dealer suggested the Sony.

Well, we use the Sony at work, and I must say that the images are really stunning. I do not have any personal experience with the HVX, only what I hear from people here on the forum.
So obviously I am biased. That being said, I would love something that has the work flow of DVCPRO HD that Shane and others talk about. But, with the Sony, once you get into the groove, it's not a big deal. Both cameras require a transfer of files from their respective cards in some shape or fashion.
I will agree with the earlier statement of trying both and keep the ones that fit better. Honestly I think that both cameras could perform beautifully for you. You just need to pick the one you are happy with.
As a last note, we were originally looking at getting the HVX and I think that I would have been happy with that camera too. Happy hunting.

Long List of FS7 Firmware suggestions

Suggestions for Sony FS7 FirmwareHere is a comprehensive list of suggested improvements for the FS7 that I think would greatly improve usability. Some I realize may be hard for Sony to change but others might be much easier. The well know ones I've posted first followed by a bunch of improvements that might not be hard to program. BUGS you already know about :1- Slow Iris & ISO Dial2 - Magenta 5600 Preset3 - No LUTs in 4K 4 - No waveforms in 4K etc5- Changing Resolution can upset other settings.. eg Shutter Angle. Issues well documented already in CINE EI 5 - No way to easily see what LUT is on and whether you are recording a LUT or not.6 - No color balance controls over LUT's ( green/ magenta and adjustable Kelvin)7 - Linkage between SDI 1 and recording LUT is Poor 8- Lack of Noise Reduction in CINE EI NEWLY DISCOVERTED BUG 12/27:In Std Gamma Mode every time you turn off the camera the Knee Reverts to OFF .This is very very bad NEW SUGGESTiONS that might not be hard to execute: 9 For Exposure Control Cine EI Slog - 4K and HDR:- Expand the IRE level for zebras so they work down to 40 IRE - Bring back the IRE level # readout that was in the F3 and EX-1- Give us the VF HIGH CONTRAST MODE that is in the F5/55. ( Alister Chapman says this a very useful way to expose Slog when you don't have LUT's in HFR and 4K)http://community.sony.com/t5/F5-F55/Viewfinder-High-Contrast-Mode-as-a-viewfinder-LUT-alternative/td-p/385954 Other suggestions for User Clarity: 10 - REVAMP THE STATUS PAGE - This is currently pointless & redundant - telling us stuff we already know because its already on our VF or will change any second anyway like Iris setting. WHAT WE NEED TO KNOW IS:- ***LUT INFO - which one , in which outputs , ARE WE RECORDING A LUT This is extremely important if you do nothing else. This is an accident waiting to happen.- MATRIX INFO - Is it User, Std, Hi Sat , etc - GAMMA INFO (that can be on VF but would be better on a status page)- GAMMA setting - (35, 40, 45 etc)- This could be User Programmable USER BUTTONS : These are great but could be much improved: 11 - Allow us to turn off and or re-program side buttons for AUTO Functions that professionals rarely want and are dangerously easy to hit by accident:- All Auto- White balance - ISO gain 12 - Allow a wider number of menu options to be programmed to user buttons - - Toggle LUT ON/OFF - Bring up LUT menu- Bring up PAINT menu - Headphone Output level to an assignable dial or button to bring up the menu setting.(This is the only pro camera I know without a headphone level adjustment) 13 Create a "TRUE CUSTOM USER MENU" where the user can put any menu item he wants. (This will greatly speed up the cameras cumbersome menus.)Here you could put the things you really need quick access to on one page . 14 Audio -- Add a -10db Consumer Line level option for mixers that send that level out - This is probably not happening , but i loved wider range of impedance choices in the EX and F3 line. - Headphone level assignment choice mentioned above 15 Sony Lenses: - 28mm -135mm is not wide enough PLEASE MAKE a similar 18mm-105mm with good manual focusingUse the focus ring design for the EX-1/3 lenses. That was brilliant. - If possible a new version of 18-200 with better manual focusing . 16 AUTO FOCUS- With the Sony 18-200 or 18-105 the push auto focus hunts badly and causes the shot to be useless. However if you turn on the full AF switch for a amount it finds the focus point smoothly and barely a second slower than the push auto . Meanwhile ADJUST AF menu item doesn't work. Can this be fixed ? Either:- Slow the PUSH AUTO FOCUS or give us control over the speed so it doesn't hunt or- Allow the FULL AF option to be user assignable as a button . Umm, you can tell whether you are recording the LUT or not in CineEI as the recorded gamma is displayed in the EVF on the right side. If you are recording a LUT the LUT name will be displayed instead of S-Log3. Is colour balnce controls of LUT's desireable? If you change the colour balance of a LUT you will hide issues that will need to be corrected in post. The whole point of a LUT is to see in camera what will be seen in post. If you alter the LUT in the camera then you are breaking that workflow unless you then also include the ability to export the corrected/shifted LUT so that post has the same LUT to work from. Linkage between SDI1 and Recording LUT is perfect. Break that link and you would no longer have a quick and easy way to categorically see what you are recording with no ambiguity or uncertainty. Yes, you do have LUT's in 4K, but with some restrictions. Those same restrictions exisit in the F5/F55 so I doubt it can be changed on the FS7. You can have a normal LUT output with no LUT on record if the SDI/HDMI out is set to HD. You can also have a LUT on the 4K output but only when you also have the LUT on the internal recordings, not ideal, but I believe this is a hardware limitation within these cameras, so I doubt it will ever change. NR in CineEI is not normally desireable as NR introduces banding within most images. NR adds smoothing/averaging to noise and after compression this can result in increased macro blocking which in turn results in more banding across smooth surfaces in a graded image. As CineEI is normally going to be graded extensively, NR can have a negative impact on the image quality. It's better to use a low EI to gain the same noise level reduction (going to 1000EI gives the same NR improvement Mid in custom mode) but without the softening and banding that NR can add. Of course those of us that don't want it can leave it turned off, so having it as an option does little harm, provided it's off by default so it dosent mess up people shots. I really don't know where you would put all the LUT configuration information on the LCD. It's cluttered enough already. The Video Out page of the Status display is currently incorrect as it always shows S-Log for the SDI and HDMI out even when you have a LUT selected. Hopefully this will get corrected. This is one of the big benefits of the F5/F55 as all that information is displayed and controlled from the side panel LCD. One option that FS7 users do already have is to pair a wifi device with the camera such as a phone or tablet (maybe buy a really cheap old android or iphone just for this) and then you will find that the LUT information will be displayed on this and you can change the LUT with a couple of taps of the phones screen. Many of the things being asked for on assignable buttons are directly accessable via the wifi remote function and the assignable buttons can be change very quickly via the wifi connection. I believe the F5/F55 high contrast mode is a viewfinder function created in the VF's. Not sure if the FS7 VF is capable of this. False color on the F5/F55 is a function of the OLED finder, so again most likely not possible on the FS7.
