Suggestions/Wishlist: Favorites as Guide Default View, 16:9 Guide and Parental Controls

Had FiOS installed less than a week ago after years as a DirecTV subscriber.  Overall very happy, but the Guide really needs work.  For starters, Guide Options should allow me to set the default view for the guide to include only a) channels I receive; or b) Favorites.  The latter allows me to filter channels I'll never watch from appearing in an already cluttered guide.  Constraining the guide display to 4:3 makes it look more cluttered and limits the amount of data that can be displayed -- a 16:9 view will be a lot easier on the eye as would the ability to suppress the color coding.
Parental Controls: When I unlock a channel, I should have the following options: Unlock This Channel Only or Unlock All Channels (this works nicely in conjunction with having only channels I receive included in the guide).  Unlocking all channels now requires too many steps. A timer feature would be nice as well.  DirecTV has a 4 hour option, at which point you are prompted to re-enter a password.  A better solution would be half-hour increments(e.g. Susie can watch TV for 30minutes after school, but not get sucked into 6 episodes of Hannah Montana...)
I would appreciate any feedback on the foregoing.  FiOS is a great product -- just a few things to makeit even better.
Chris

16:9 guide was started (although it was just a stretched 4:3) but it had so many complaints that it was retracted. It is supposed to be coming in not the next upgrade but the one after that. (two upgrades out). It is going to be a true HD 16:9 guide, but it is still in production.
There are ways with the Favorites. The link above is an excellent source.
Same as JUSTIN about the parental controls, I dont need or use them so I have no experience with it.
And just as an aside, this is a user to user forum, with next to no Verizon official presence. There are a few employees that float in and out and try to help, and I'm sure that some of them try and escalate the suggestions. But we have yet to get any kind of "official" site to make suggestions yet.

  • Public folder calendar will not add to favorites or users default view in Outlook 2010

I have created a shared public calendar in the public folders of our exchange server set-up (priovided by a popular cloud supplier). It appears under public folders in Outlook 2010 but right-clicking add to favorites does nothing and I cant make the calendar
show up in the normal calendar view (alongside other calendars) for the people that need to share it. What am I doing wrong?

    Hi ,
This folder was added to the “public favorites” folder and then added to your favorites menu and don’t shows up in the Navigation Pane under “Other Contacts”.
1.If so , please check the calendar folder you initially added to the public folder as being available .
2.Open the Outlook E-mail account –more setting—chose Download Public Folder Favorites.
3.Add the “Show in Favorites” button to your Quick Access Toolbar at the top of your Outlook by expanding the menu next to it, choosing Customize, and
finding the “Show in Favorites” item under all commands.
4.Switch to Folder View and click to open your Public Foder in your main Outlook window.
5.Switch to Mail View but don’t click any folders. You should see that your “Show in Favorites”button turns from grey to colored. Click it and it will
add the public foder to your Favorites list.

  • Default ports groups for iptv and iptv control server

is there a default group for iptv and default ports for different types of communication

I was able to take a look at the system here at work:
Under "Preferences" in the Content Manager, the first category of configurable parameters are for Multicast Addresses.
If you keep the default (Global)it uses 224.2.X.Y, and allows you to set the TTL's to set the multicast diameter.
The Administratively Scoped multicast addresses are 239.255.0.0 - 239.255.255.255. You can also set a TTL.
    Global SSM addresses are 232.0.0.0-232.255.255.255
Admin Scoped SSM addresses are 239.232.0.0-239.232.255.255
Near the end of that section, you can choose which address range will be the default, and I believe "Global" (224.2.X.Y) is the "default" default.
The only ports listed are for Multicast Announcement (9874) and RTSP (8554) both are UDP.

  • How to change the default view of published iCal's URL

I am publishing an iCal for a nonprofit group and link to the calendar from the group's website. The default URL given (in the send publish email option) leads to the week view of the current week. I would prefer the link to take site visitors to the month view of the calendar. If I go to the month view and copy the URL for it, and use that for the link, I have to change the URL each month, because the URL that comes from the month view will only show the month it was at the time I copied the URL -- it will not change with the new month. Does anyone have any idea of how I can change the URL so that it leads to the month view of whatever the current month is?
I should note that I know how to change the default view in the my browser, but I would rather not have to explain how to do this to all the people viewing the calendar -- just wanting the correct month view to show up when they click the link, without having to change it each month.
I would be so grateful if anyone has some insight on this!
    Thanks.

    Carlo,
The fact that this question has been left unanswered for over 2 months seems a little negligent on the part of Apple Support.
This Forum is unfortunately not Apple Support. According to Apple:
What is Apple Discussions and how can it help me?
"Apple Discussions is a user-to-user support forum where experts and other Apple product users get together to discuss Apple products. You'll find a wealth of information about your favorite Apple hardware and software products that will help you get the most out of your purchase. You can participate in discussions about various products and topics, find solutions to help you resolve issues, ask questions, get tips and advice, and more.
If you have a technical question about an Apple product, be sure to check out Apple's support resources first by consulting the application Help menu on your computer and visiting our Support site to view articles and more on our product support pages."
In direct response to your questions, I would say that (as observed by the OP) anyone who subscribes to a published calendar can make a change to their desired view using the "Preferences" icon which is displayed underneath the mini-month calendars.
There is no way that I know of to directly or conveniently change the time-range. There may be workarounds, but I could not find a suitable solution for you.
I would recommend that you provide iCal Feedback, if you are interested in informing Apple of your desires.

  • Acrobat Standard 6.0 Set as Default Viewer, but Browser is looking for Adobe Reader 8 or 9

    All,
I use Adobe Acrobat Standard 6.0 for viewing and creating PDF's.  Just a couple of days ago, I tried opening a patent document I found on Google.  The browser displayed the following error:
"The Adobe Acrobat/Reader that is running can not be used to view PDF files in a Web Browser.  Adobe Acrobat/Reader version 8 or 9 is required.  Please exit and try again."
So I looked for an update for Adobe Reader and downloaded Adobe Reader 9.1.2.
The next PDF document that I opened came up in Adobe Reader....NOT Adobe Acrobat.  The installation must have changed the default viewer.  So I right-clicked on the PDF file icon and selected OPEN WITH Adobe Acrobat.  I clicked the checkbox to "Always open with this program..."  This seems to have fixed the default viewer problem, as PDF files now open with Adobe Acrobat Standard...just the way I want things to work.
I still have the problem of not being able to open many documents within a browser...I think because the browser is looking to open the PDF files in Adobe Reader 9.1.2, NOT Acrobat 6.0.  But Adobe Acrobat is now the default viewer.
Does Acrobat function independently of Reader?  Or is Reader a module that is required for Acrobat to function properly?  Whatever the case may be, can somebody suggest a fix for this problem?
    Thanks,
    Neal
    [email address deleted by host]

They do not require each other for running as mentioned. There are some modules in common and that is where you run into problems. There are issues with the parts that remain resident also. I would suggest you follow the other advice you have been given. Unfortunately, there are some PDFs that may not open correctly in AA6. You may have run into some of those.

  • Preview as default viewer of pdf's in safari

After changing to Tiger and Safari 2, pdf's are not openend in preview, but in a new Safari window. If I want the pdf in Preview, I'll have to control-click it. However, the pdf then is not on my desktop, so that save as is not possible. How can I have Preview as my default viewing program with files being automatically downloaded on my desctop? This was possible in Safari 1.
    Any suggestions?

Quit Safari, load up '/Applications/Utilities/Terminal' and enter the following command to disable Safari's native PDF support..
defaults write com.apple.Safari WebKitOmitPDFSupport -bool YES
Launch Safari and navigate to its Preferences section. Check the box which allows the automatic opening of 'safe' files. Set the default download location to be your desktop.

  • How can I make folder view the default view when I open Organizer?

I just bought Adobe Elements Photshop and Premier 11.  I spent 2 to 3 hours getting my picture video library into Adobe's organizer.  I had some problems with duplicate picture (that I wanted to be there - so I had to rename them) and a couple pictures with corrupted metadata.  After I got all that sorted out I am a bit miffed about the folder view on Adob'es organizer.
I love that you can switch to folder view - since this is how I have been organizing my pictures for a long time.  I would like to continue organizing this way for now until I get a grasp on the other ways I can organize them in elements.  However, every time I close and re-open organizer it switches back to the default view instead of folder view.  PLEASE tell me that there is a way to set folder view to the default view!  HELP!

    99jon wrote:
Perhaps it’s a design feature to speed up the Organizer launch.
    I am sure it is.
    - The normal use of the Organizer is not the folder view, it's the thumbnail view with an organization based on categories and folder. That way you should forget completely where your pictures are stored. Anyway, the folder view in the Explorer is not a map of the location of the different bits of your file, it's only a logical representation. That's easy to see when you are doing a defragmentation.
    - The folder view is useful even for those using normally the thumbnail view, but that is only for rare cases when you must change the folder organization, for instance moving files to another drive. The folder view is here to prevent you from changing things from the explorer and outside of the Organizer.
    - The new folder list view, which you find 'funny' is there to help better organizing using tags. Its huge advantage is that such a view is created extremely quickly by extracting the last subfolder in the media table : it's the way the database sees the folders, based on its own content,  totally ignoring the complex folder organization of your disk with media files or any unrelated other kind of data. You should use it in many cases, the main purpose being assigning tags when you have assigned descriptive folder names. I had suggested such a solution to prevent the long standing bugs in the folder view of previous versions.
    So yes, the purpose is:
    - to speed up switching modes
    - to help folder organization fans to migrate to tags organization
    - to hopefully get rid of the old folder organization bugs

  • Hiding action button from  UWL default view

    Hi All,
In our UWL, we have created a subview for mass approval of leave requests. In this case, the mass approval button is appearing in default view as well.We want the buttons to be restricted only to the subviews and should not be displayed in the default view.
We tried the below code in XML under default view but it didn't work
    <Action name="ApproveI" groupAction="yes" handler="uwlExcludeAction"   referenceBundle="levatt.ess.ApproveSelected"/>
Pls. suggest how to hide this from default view.
    Thanks,
    Arun

    Hi Arun
I hope you are well and many thanks for using the SAP Discussion Forums .
Ok in relation to the scenario that you have described you mentioned:
You created a subview for mass approval of leave requests. In this case, the mass approval button is appearing in default view as well. You want the buttons to be restricted only to the subviews and should not be displayed in the default view.
    <Action name="ApproveI" groupAction="yes" handler="uwlExcludeAction"   referenceBundle="levatt.ess.ApproveSelected"/>
Firstly from a general perspective we need to remember two key principals in terms of the editing of XML files.
XML files follow the concept of precedence. Therefore when you make changes to any XML files or create an entirely new XML file these files need to be re-uploaded with a new priority. To realize changes with XML files and see the changes "graphically displayed" on the portal you need to re-upload the files with a new priority of "High" or "Very High". Also after making the changes you need to clear the UWL Cache or restart the UWL Service (not portal) to see the desired changes displayed.
The second point to highlight here is to ensure that you make and perform a backup of current XML files which are unedited. The reason for this is simply to allow changes to be reverted easily if required.
Now back to the scenario you want to remove this mass approval option from the default view.
There are a few approaches here, and I have outlined guidance documentation below for your cross referencing and convenience:
Removing Actions From the UWL Display

    XML Code To Remove Buttons
UWL XML Code to remove buttons Forward,Resubmit and Assign to Me - Portal - SCN Wiki
If you enable the support information for a given workitem associated with the button you should be able to remove the button action by removing the XML code or editing the "Actions To Exclude" section:
Please enable the Support Information of UWL. You could find the details in the following note:
SAP Note: 1532883 - How to Enable the Support Information for Troubleshooting issues in the Universal Worklist (UWL)
There should be some reference to the Approval button in the file which will need to be removed.
Kindly update me as per your findings and let me know if you find the desired resolution.
I will be keeping an eye on the thread in the meantime awaiting your response.

  • Using Save As and Folder default view

    Hello,
While I'm not entirely new to GroupWise, I have finally run into a problem where I am unable to suggest a solution.
I have a user that likes to save emails to specific folders and would like the default view to be Details as it is outside of the GroupWise application. Here is what she is doing and can be replicated on my desktop as well.
    1. In GroupWise right click any email and click Save As
    2. In the right-side window pane, right-click in any empty space
    3. Choose View and notice the default is Medium icons
    4. Still in View, change to Details
    5. Find where you want to save email and click Save.
    6. Close the Save As.. window.
    7. Repeat the process for saving an email and notice that the default now goes back to Medium icons instead of Details.
So the Details view exists everywhere except in GroupWise when using Save As...
Is there a way for GroupWise to remember the setting of View by the user in this scenario or for it to pull in the current setting from Windows Explorer?
