Suggstion: animation time line to preview layers in illustrator

I would like the basic flash animation time line in illustrator to preview my layers (build or sequence) prior to exporting to flash, so I can tweak my shapes and vector objects as I am developing and working on my ideas

Hi,
It is not yet available for download. I am working on a plugin to replace Smart Guide and direct selection tool which will be available first. Please let me know if you are interested in testing this plugin. The animation plugin will come after that.
What OS and AI version are you using?

  • Extending video layers across the time line simultaneously

    Any one Know how to extend video layers across the time line simultaneously?
    I have been working on a Video for a few days and have all the layers I need to make my video but when I came to start creting the clip on the timeline there was no promt asking me how long I want the clip to be. I want to extend all the layers on the clip to 21:10 seconds similtaniously. Ther is about 600 layers in numorous groups and I dont want to have to extend each layer across the time line to 21:10 seconds individualy?
    can any one help?

    it is currently lacking the ability to adjust the length using multiple layers at once. However that said, if you are done animating the layer individualy, you can select all layer (or a partial) and convert them to a smart object. That smart object can then be extended in time. Playing in photoshop maybe slower due to the smart object.

  • Is there any way to make your time line layers different colors ?

    Scrolling up & own the time line panel is a bit of a pain trying to find certain objects on the time line.i learn about doing th option click o why ever key it is that allows you to select the item on your stage which highlights the object on your time line. Yet if you could color the layer it would be a good system so you would know fom just looking at the oolong of the layer what is what.

    Naming layers is vital.  Layer management is important.  But no, you can't color code layers.  It'd be nice.  In the "Motion" menu (left of the File menu) inside the app, there's a chose to go to the feedback page.  Tell the dev team you want it.

  • Green time line

    Somethings stopping me view my Ae animation work about half way through. I just started working with after effects and can see that the neon green strip above the time line represents, er, something. Currently it stops half way thru the project, and I can't watch anything past then. How to make it extend to the end of the work? And why is it broken - sometimes?? Vague terms I know but as I say I'm new...and the project has to be finished today!
    Thanks
    Ben

    You need to check out the help files. This green line represents the number of frames that can be cached into your system memory. After Effects is not a non linear editor and doesn't playback video the same way Premiere or FCP does.
    Read
    these pages from the help files and you'll have a better idea of how AE works.
    When you've finished the Previewing section you should also read the entire
    Rendering and Exporting section. AE is an extremely feature rich application and each of the output options has different requirements. You can't expect to get perfect results with every project if you don't do a little homework first.

  • Multiple use of the same video time line for different audio tracks

    I have a 90 minute video timeline
    I will be putting different audio tracks in multiple languages.
    But as i was just editing i wondered if i could use only a segment (30 minutes ) of the timeline
    along with a 30 minute audio.
    Example:
    So the first thing on the menu will be the whole 90 minute video
    with a 90 minute music track
    Second thing might be the 90 minute video with a 90 minute commentary
    Third thing might be the first 30 minutes of video with a different commentary
    Forth thing on the menu might be the first 30 minutes of video and 30 minutes of
    a different language
    Etc.
    I realize i will need to make space (mb)  for all the audio.....but if i could use the same video or pieces of it
    that would be fantastic.
    If i can do this i am presuming i should use playlists and chapter playlists to get it done?
    I have never done this before and would love some feedback on an over view or tips
    that might save me some guess work
    Thanks for any help :-)

    Hey Stan!
    Thanks for your help...i think i am really getting this. And have learned a lot.
    I had to go back to my computer programming and flowcharting skills to figure out the flow :-)
    And i still have 153mb to spare when i build it.
    I ended up lining up all the different videos and audios exactly for each time line except for 1 timeline.
    Question: I know if the audio is shorter it will be ok.... but if the audio is longer than the video on a timeline ( and its the audio i assigned it by specify link )
    Will the DVD keep playing until the audio is done or end when the video is done playing?
    2nd Question: I am previewing the playlists with the "Preview from Here" feature
    I specify the link and chapter within that timeline ( it is the only timeline with more than one chaper....the one with the longer audio than video from the question above )
    For most of the audios i only need video chapter 1.....the preview here plays it ok but if i hit the skip to next (in the preview button on theright of the play button)...it goes to the next chapter #2... instead of the next timeline chapter 1 like it is programed to do from the playlist.
    I am wondering if this is just fluke in the preview feature...or will it do that on the actual DVD as well?
    Lastly because i am using different timelines. I am wondering if there are delays between playlists? for example...i have a long audio that continues between three timelines...i have spliced it pretty fine so it picks up perfectly on the next timeline...but i am wondering if the DVD when playing in realtime will have a little black space inbetween timelines.
    Thanks again for your help and time :-)
    Mark
    Hiya Mark.
    DVD-Video is video dominant, with the audio always following the visuals so if the audio ends berfore the video it will not (okay, should not) be a problem.
    However, the other way around could go either way - if the actual video timeline has ended the audio may well truncate so I would personally add videoblack at the very least.
    I am also not at all sure how you are going to work a single contiguous audio file across 3 separate playlists. This sounds flawed in concept to me (have I misunderstood your meaning?). In DVD-Video the format is graphically/visually dominant - the audio must always be tied to a visual asset be it a menu or a timeline - so there is no way to have one piece of audio playing across 3 timelines and having it play back glitch free whilst the timeline changes. You will not get a black space - it will simply stop. So unless I have misunderstood you in some way.........
    As Stan says, preview is flaky - the only way to know for sure is to multiplex & burn.

  • In elements 10 my video tracks on the time line appear blank

    trying to sync the audio and video but the tracks do not show anything. i;'ve had this problem before months ago and i started a new session and the problem was resolved. not this time. i started a whole new session and it did the same thing. i can't see the video tracks in time line...i've messed with the stuff to the left and nothing works. where it says "shows how video will be displayed".... doesn't work. how do i get my tracks back visually?

    Please remind me, in your present project, are you ripping VOBs from a DVD-VIDEO format on a DVD disc? If so, how are you doing that? If not, what are the properties of the source media that you are importing into this project?
    And, could you also verify the situation so that I am not taking anything for granted....
    In spite of the fact that you cannot see your video at the Timeline level, can you still see it in the Edit Mode monitor when you move the mouse cursor from left to right across the Timeline?
    If this issue is just confined to the Timeline displays, could you post a screenshot of what you are looking at when this situation exists?
    At any time have you tried deleting the Premiere Elements 10 settings file? I had a problem with Premiere Elements 12 yesterday. When I went to preview a disc menu in the Preview of the disc menu area, there was no main menu page displayed in the project. I tried in a new project and got the same. Deleting the Premiere Elements 12 settings file resolved the issue. The settings file deletion continues to be one of the best tools for getting at issues that defy resolution by other means.

  • I cannot drag and drop to the time line!!! This worked before.

    Hello All,
    The last time I used iMovie was about a month ago. I have successfully imported and edited many projects in the past year. I just imported footage from a Mini DV camcorder as I always have in the past. When I click on video to drag to the time line, as soon as I move the mouse pointer, the video thumbnail becomes ghosted and I do not see the thumbnail or green + symbol when dragging. I even moved the mouse pointer to the timeline anyway and released the mouse click and nothing happened. I even tried dragging image files and MOV files from the Finder to the iMovie interface and that would not work either.
    What is preventing me from dragging?
    Ralph Ocampo

    Also, after the video thumbnail is ghosted, if I click on the ghosted thumbnail the thumbnail image does not appear in the preview window. Instead, the preview window turns black.
    Also, if I double click the ghosted thumbnail I do not get the Clip info dialog. It's as if the clip no longer exists, but I can see it's ghosted thumbnail.
    Also, I showed my wife the problem and she just told me she was using iMovie 2 days ago with no problem.

  • How do I acces a var from the main time line in to a movieclip?

    I'm making a quiz-type animation, since I'm new with ActionScript I had developed my own way to make this work.
    I want to add like a meter that shows one out three position depending on the answer given, I had made this animation as a movieclip but now I need it to react according to the answer, so it changes on every question to do that I need to access the variables I'm using in the main time line, how can I access the the main time line variables from the movie clip?
    The movie clip (meter) is basically the background and the questions will change and advance on top of that movie clip so it'll change with each answer until you get the final result.
    Since I cant attached my FLA file here I could email my it to whom may want to help me, THANK YOU!!!

    I kinda of make it work using what you suggested: var meterVar = MovieClip(this.root).userAnswer;, but I have different problems now I'm getting this error: TypeError: Error #1009: Cannot access a property or method of a null object reference.
         at divameter2_fla::MovieClip_1/frame1() and the meter movieclip only change from the original position to the second and stays there even if the first answer supose to sent it to the third or four position. here is the code for the main and movie clip:
    Main:
    The following code I have it in separate frames, I know is probbably not the best way to do it but I'm new with AS.
    Frame 1:
    stop();
    messageBox.text = "";
    var userAnswer:int;
    var rbg:Object = rbA.group;
    var finalScore:int;
    btnCheck.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextBtn);
    function nextBtn(evt:MouseEvent):void {
                 userAnswer = int(rbg.selectedData);
                 if(userAnswer == 0) {messageBox.text = "Please select an option";
                 }else{
                     finalScore = userAnswer;
                     gotoAndPlay(2);
    Frame 2:
    stop();
    messageBox.text = "";
    var rbbg:Object = rbbA.group;
    btnCheckTwo.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextBtnTwo);
    function nextBtnTwo (evt:MouseEvent):void {
                 userAnswer = int(rbbg.selectedData);
                 if(userAnswer == 0) {messageBox.text = "Please select an option";
                 }else{
                     finalScore = finalScore + userAnswer;
                     gotoAndPlay(3);
    Frame 3:
    stop();
    messageBox.text = "";
    var rbcg:Object = rbcA.group;
    btnCheckThree.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextBtnThree);
    function nextBtnThree (evt:MouseEvent):void {
                 userAnswer = int(rbcg.selectedData);
                 if(userAnswer == 0) {messageBox.text = "Please select an option";
                 }else{
                     finalScore = finalScore + userAnswer;
                     gotoAndPlay(4);
    Frame 4:

    var rbdg:Object = rbdA.group;
    btnCheckFour.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextBtnFour);
    function nextBtnFour (evt:MouseEvent):void {
                 userAnswer = int(rbdg.selectedData);
                 if(userAnswer == 0) {messageBox.text = "Please select an option";
                 }else{
                     finalScore = finalScore + userAnswer;
                     gotoAndPlay(5);
    Frame 5:
    stop();
    messageBox.text = "";
    var rbeg:Object = rbeA.group;
    btnCheckFinish.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, finishBtn);
    function finishBtn (evt:MouseEvent):void {
                 userAnswer = int(rbdg.selectedData);
                 if(userAnswer == 0) {messageBox.text = "Please select an option";
                 }else{
                     finalScore = finalScore + userAnswer;
                     if (finalScore > 4) gotoAndPlay(6);
                     if (finalScore > 9) gotoAndPlay(7);
                     if (finalScore > 13) gotoAndPlay(8);
    The las theree frames are the 3 different results and the code they have is only a stop();

    stop();
    var meterVar = MovieClip(this.root).userAnswer;

    var btnCheckTwo = MovieClip(this.root).btnCheckTwo;

    btnCheck.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextBtn);
         function nextBtn (evt:MouseEvent):void {
                 if (meterVar == 1) {gotoAndPlay(2);
                     if (meterVar == 2) gotoAndPlay(3);
                     if (meterVar == 3) gotoAndPlay(4);
                 }else{ gotoAndPlay (1);
    btnCheckTwo.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextBtnTwo);
         function nextBtnTwo (evt:MouseEvent):void {
                 if (meterVar == 1) {gotoAndPlay(2);
                     if (meterVar == 2) gotoAndPlay(3);
                     if (meterVar == 3) gotoAndPlay(4);
                 }else{ gotoAndPlay (1);
    btnCheckThree.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, nextBtnThree);
         function nextBtnThree (evt:MouseEvent):void {
                 if (meterVar == 1) {gotoAndPlay(2);
                     if (meterVar == 2) gotoAndPlay(3);
                     if (meterVar == 3) gotoAndPlay(4);

  • AF comp not showing as rendered on Time-line in PrePro (CS5)

    I made a simple animated text in a video in After Effects CS5 and rendered it before importing it into a Premiere Pro CS5 project. The clip plays fine but remains Red (line) on the Time-line. Is that something of concern? I’m new to AF and have a bit more time working with PrePro so that's why I imported the AF comp into PrePro. I know that's a backwards method using the two programs that way.

    Hi Frank,
    I would appreciate if you could provide a code snippet for your suggestion.
    Isn't the following code already doing what you suggested:
    yesNoListComponent.setValue(myValueObject.getYnFieldValue());
    (given the fact that "yesNoListComponent" is a non-static field in my managed bean)
    Are you suggesting I should do an explicit :
    myManagedBean.getYesNoListComponent.setValue(myValueObject.getYnFieldValue());
    Also in the jspx,
    I am not sure what else I could do other than the following snippet to make sure the managedbean.yesNoListComponent value is picked up by the view
    <af:selectOneChoice binding="#{myManagedBean.yesNoListComponent}">
    <f:selectItems value="#{myManagedBean.yesNoList}"/>
    </af:selectOneChoice>
    Sorry I am just revisiting this problem after switching to Spring MVC at my day-time job, so my JSF concepts are rusting out a little bit..may be I am just not getting something too obvious.. please provide some snippet showing what you are suggesting..

  • Loading levels under elements in time line

    I have a master container file that holds elements like a
    navigation, border, logo and other items that need to be visible at
    all times. I put these elements on the stage in various layers.
    Upon clicking on buttons within the navigation, external .swf
    files are then loaded into this container file. The loaded .swfs go
    into an empty movie clip called "target_mc", created using
    ActionScript:
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("target_mc");
    here's the AS for one of the buttons:
    on (release) {
    loadMovie("MM/01_home_SR_3404.swf", "target_mc");
    Everything works fine, however the loaded .swfs are coming in
    on top of the elements in my timeline. Is there a way to have then
    come in under these elements? I know using AS to load these
    elements in the same way as the .swfs will solve the problem, but I
    like being able to see them in the time line so that it's easier to
    make adjustments. I also know that creating an empty movie clip
    that sits on the time line in a lower layer to hold the .swfs will
    solve the problem, however I need to load them into levels so I can
    eventually do things like swap depth and load to the next highest
    level.
    any advice would be greatly appreciated.
    thanks!!

    I'm still using Cs6.... I found that if you hold shift+click with the cut tool it cuts it.. I'll try link as shifting is a pain...
    Maybe there is a way to set teh shift+click as the default action for the cut tool?

  • Scary Message Every Import  from my Sony PMW 320 XDCAM EX  Clip Files w/ Completed Time LIne

    Hello
    This is the 3rd question I've posted working my way through my first edit (and HD edit) with Premiere Pro CS5.5, and I have a completed time line with the basic edit for an important event, my first for a client I hope to work for again.  Am now working on the title sequence at the beginning and also a "recap" with music and highlights at the very end.  Then I will be trying my first burn to a bluray -R disk on the LG 12x internal BRD unit in a high performance Mac Pro I had built at OWC.  10.7.5 Lion currently.
    3 types of files:
    1.  1080i 29.97 upper frame first, standard 1080i settings......from my B camera footage from a Sony NEX 5N.  28mbps I believe.  Example clip:  00018.MTS.  No issues or messages on the imports into the Project window.
    2.  Backup files same settings but 50mbps from Nanoflash recorder attached to my PMW 320 camcorder through the HD SDI output.  Example clip:  01253001.MTX.
    Both of these above I just dragged their entire folders onto my internal master 2 disc Raid 0.  And then imported just the "clips" from each into the project window in each's own bin or folder.
    3.  Same scenario with my main files copying them from the large camcorder.  Example clip:  159_0221_01.MP4.  35mbps.  All 3 of these types of files have 29.97 fps indicated to the right.
    But in the Project window when I selected initially all the clips from the drop downs inside the folder from the PMW 320 on the Master drive, and since then just some individual clips.....I keep getting this::  A window with "File Import Failure" in the top header and 5 lines of all the Volume codings within that Folder in the message box, and below it, "Error Message"  "File format not supported"  with an active "OK" button.  Which I have clicked and then gone ahead and worked with them.
    But the clips in question are all in the project window and load fine into the Program Window or drag fine directly to the time line.  I have completed the whole sequence save for what I mentioned above.  Color correction, audio adjustments, slo motion, freeze frames, transitions, everything.  I have even taken a short piece of the time line and done experimental exports to self contained "Animation" codec clip,  H.264 clip and an MPEG 4 clip.  All were successful.  Last step coming soon will be export to 1080i 29.97 bluray.
    I believe I have seen "MPEG 4" in the codec info on the PMW 320's clips.  Being that Premiere is supposed to handle every codec no problem, and that it seems to have done just that, what is going on here with these messages??  I have a ton of hours into this 1st edit and it all seems to work.  Do I not need to worry about this message even if I don't understand why I am getting it?
    Thanks much
    Ron

    All that shows is the clips themselves, but yes I guess that could be happening.  So in the future from the PMW 320 import them 1st into Media Browser and then to the Project window?  (before taking them to Source window or directly to the time line)  Or just leave them in the Media Browser, and work it from there?
    In the meantime, the fact it has all worked and seems to be working, would you think I'm OK since I've been able to do up to a massive 156gb Animation codec 16 minute portion of the sequence while I was first experimenting?   I am likely going to try the Dynamic Link function and Auto settings into Encore, straight from my time line of around 90 minutes.  Per the suggestion of Ann here in one of my other threads asking about that part.  Just to see if I can mail it on time on Tuesday if it looks good.

  • Red line above the time line

    How do I get it so after initially importing my video the line above the time line will be green instead of red.  It stays red until after I render the whole clip.  I am importing my video clips from my camcorder.  How do you determine the correct project settings if that is the issue?
    Thanks

    freedog69
    How do I get it so after initially importing my video the line above  the
    time line will be green instead of red.
    Not possible as worded. If you have the correct project preset, there  will
    be no colored line over this Timeline content.
    If you do not have the correct project preset, there will be a red line
    over this Timeline content.
    What version of Premiere Elements are you using and on what computer
    operating system is it running? APE 8  Windows XP 3GB  of ram Pentium Dual core
    Proc 2.41 Ghz
    If you are talking "red" line, then you must be working with a version of
    Premiere Elements earlier than 11. Assuming that....
    If your project preset matches the properties of your source media, then,
    when you bring one of those files to the Timeline, you will get no colored
    line  over the Timeline. But, after that, after you edit that content, a red
    line will  appear. That is when you render the Timeline content to turn the
    line  green.Thereafter, that original content will never revert to the no
    colored line  status as you work through editing that project. It will just go
    through the red  green color indicator system.
    No colored line and green = the program telling you that you now have the
    best possible preview of the Timeline content when viewing it in the Edit
    Mode  monitor playback. Red line = the program telling you that you do not
    have the  best possible preview of the Timeline content and, if you want that,
    then you  can press the Enter key of the computer main keyboard to make that
    happen.

  • Unable to import powerpoint .mov files nor see stuff in my time line

    any ideas as to why I can't import my powerpoint .mov file into imovie? Powerpoint movie was created with the mac powerpoint software and make movie seems logical.
    Also I can't see items in my time line correctly. If i choose a frame it shows me stuff either ahead of that frame or prior...never that frame I'm choosing.

    hi there, i'm not sure but i think it is because the powerpoint.mov file is actually an animation and has 3 x video tracks that cross fade. I have had the same problem. good luck, Phil.

  • Stoping the time line

    I have looked throught this forum a i did not find what i
    needed, So here it is. i am using Director MX 2004
    I have a video say 2 mins long and it is on the score for
    3600 frames (30 frames per second for 2mins = 3600 frames) at the
    end of the video it will jump to the main title page using markers
    Using this code in the score script
    on exitFrame me
    _movie.go("Start")
    end
    I have made buttons for play,pause and rewind, which work
    fine to control the WMV I made. The problem is that i need to stop
    the timeline or pause it when the pause button is clicked with the
    mouse and when i click play the time line starts back up. Right now
    when the pause button is click the video stops and the time line
    continues to the end were it jumps back to start.
    So far i tried using this code:
    on exitFrame me
    _movie.go(_movie.frame)
    end
    and it stoped the timeline but I could not find how to start
    the timeline. any help would be great.
    thanks :D

    Actually there should be no connection/dependencies between
    the timeline in
    director and a sprite containing a video. Even if a video and
    a director
    movie is set to the same framerate it is not at all reliable
    to syncronize
    between them.
    Director is eventdriven, but will try to perform the
    framerate set in the
    control panel or by lingo, if it can - the bottomline is, it
    will depend to
    much on the power of the computer. Also imagine to deal with
    the timeline
    when having a video 2 hours long.....I know that you don't,
    but just imagine
    If having other media to present - images, animation,
    changing background
    and so on - depending on where you are in the video, then the
    most common
    way is using movieTime as Dave Mennenoh suggests. Many
    videoformats also
    supports cuepoints.
    Both ways you stay on the same frame until a certain
    time/point is passed -
    and when it is, call a script/go to the next frame or
    whatever.
    On the other hand, if you allready made this, and a lot of
    e.g
    scoreanimation, then use _movie.go(_movie.frame +1) or
    simply: go the frame
    +1.

  • Viewing Animated GIF files in Preview

    Hello...
    I'm trying to figure out why I cannot view animated GIF files within Preview. When I search within Preview's help I get this...
    *1. Open the animated GIF file in Preview.*
    *2. If the window's drawer isn't already visible, choose View > Drawer.*
    *The drawer contains a thumbnail image for the animated GIF. The number of frames in the animation appears in the lower-right corner.*
    *3. Click the triangle beside the thumbnail image.*
    *Preview shows all the frames in the animated GIF. When you click a frame, the animation stops and Preview displays that frame.*
    Now at the end of number 3 it states that "the animation stops", so according to that statment Preview should be "playing" the animation until I click a certain frame to stop it. Well mine doesn't do this, SO what's going on?
    Oh, my OS is v10.4.10 and Preview is v3.0.9(409).
    Thanks!

    Preview in Panther did play animated gifs, although it was a bit clunky at it. Evidently they intended to fix this in Tiger, but instead they ended up breaking it completely. To play an animated gif you now need to do so in a browser, such as Safari. Preview no longer plays them at all.
