Sorry, I don't know what to tell you on the iPhoto problem. You might try to open it with the Option key held down to see if it is the program or the data file.
There is an iLife community here that you might post your question on.

  • SUID file problem

After installing Panther I had a start up failure. Detached LaCie which seemed to solve the problem. I ran utilities.. to check permissions and got this message.
    Warning: SUID file "system/Library/Core Services/Remote Management/ARD agent...
Permissions were clear before installing Panther.
Is this a serious problem and how do I solve it?

I'm assuming you mean Leopard OS X 10.5 and not really Panther. Anyway, this problem has been reported but I don't know the current status of possible fixes, etc.

It is generally recommended that you detach external devices, such as the LaCie, before doing a Mac OS X update or upgrade. Hope this helps in the future.

I just ran the 10.5.1 upgrade and I'm still getting these problems
Reinstalling the update has worked for many to remove all but one error.
I would say the the third time might be the one
You can't really lose anything by applying the download update again.
To be absolutely sure, I would even download it again.
Other than that, I am stumped.

  • Permissions Problem:Warning SUID file?

    Hi guys,
I'm not sure if this is the right place to post this but here it goes.
My Macbook Pro was acting funny the last 2 days and was really laggy when I was typing. So I ran a Disk utility to check permissions and verify the disk. There were a couple of things out of wack that were repaired and I'm not having that lag problem. However I ran across another one.
This is a message that came up when I repaired the permissions:
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/OwnerGroupTool" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "usr/bin/lppasswd" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Is this something that I should be concerned about?

I have the same Disk Utility error messages, but I am also unable to start any of my Microsoft Office X applications (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). I was directed to "completely" uninstall Office and reinstall, and that has not resolved that issue.
Am I wrong to believe the two issues are related?
    Welcome to Apple Discussions:
Yes, they are most likely completely unrelated. Many have these warnings.
You should post a new thread with your MS issue.
Warning: SUID file "System/Library/CoreServices/Finder.app/Contents/Resources/OwnerGroupTool" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID file "usr/bin/lppasswd" has been modified and will not be repaired.
They are merely warnings. Search these threads for hundreds of these cases and explanations.
Everything was working with them till I was building a chart in Excel. Then the program "unexpectedly quit" and since nothing Office has worked. Anyway, after I started having the issue with the Microsoft programs, I ran Disk Utilities and produced these warnings.
The issue you have is with MS products. Reinstall the MS software.
    Go to this forum: http://www.officeformac.com/ProductForums/Office/
Will/Would reinstallation of Leopard be the only way to resolve the issue?
It would be the worst way. Leopard is fine. Your Office is not.
Is there a 10.5.5 version of the installer so that I can archive and clean install?
I don't understand this question at all.

That's a routine message and it means nothing. Don't waste your time repairing permissions unless you know you have a problem that can be solved that way, which you probably never will.

  • Disk Utility -- SUID FILES "will not be repaired"

Last night I ran Disk Utility.
After repair I received this message --
Warning: SUID file "usr/liveecec/load_hdi" had been modified and will not be repaired.
There is a list of nine similar SUID errors illustrated in screen snap shot at this link:
    http://homepage.mac.com/boot321/Permission/PhotoAlbum12.html
    I've recently upgraded to 10.5.1
Discovering nine problems that cannot be "repaired" by disk utility gives me concern.
I run a fairly conservative series of applications on my G5. Can anyone advise on what may be needed here?
    thank you,
    Mike

On the link from Michael Conniff suggesting I read the article that Mac posted saying "not a cause for concern" -- there is only ONE Warning that is illustrated. Since I had a total of NINE, I thought that may have consequence....
Yes, the article appeared just after Leopard was released, when there was only one such message. The others appeared with 10.5.1.
Maybe this will all go away in 10.5.2
There has always been a lag between strange messages appearing and a KB article to explain them. In 10.2.2, we started seeing messages saying "We are using special permissions for the file or directory …". Initially there was just one: by 10.4.4, there were almost too many to count. In 10.4.5, Apple suppressed these messages because all they did was spread alarm around this and other forums.
I have no doubt we'll see the same happen with these SUID messages. If you're interested in what happened before, look at the links in this FAQ: Permissions Issues.

  • Warning:  SUID File (11 Files) and "Permissions Differ" - No Install Disc

    Hello,
Have had my black macbook for about 3 1/2 years now (leopard) and having problems with it being really sluggish and freezing up. Additionally, the fan is coming on a lot and being really loud. I have checked activity monitor (all processes) and nothing is running over 12...Question is are the "warning suid files" and "permissions differ" the source of these problems? I can't find my original install disc (have one for my i mac but no good I hear.) Guessing I need to go to the genius bar to fix this issue...Thanks, PoorGradStudent

Hello and welcome to the discussions, Those warning are normal and nothing to worry about.
While your at the genius bar see if they will run a diagnostics test on your laptop. Note, if your problems only show up after it has been on for an hour, get there an hour early and warm it up.
No use in have them look at it if you can't replicate the problem.
    Cheers,
    Glynn

  • How do I fix this SUID file error?

After upgrading to Snow Leopard, I had a bunch of problems but seem to have solved most of them by upgrading my RAM to 4GB.
But I keep getting this error when I verify permissions. I have no idea how it happened.
Warning: SUID File "System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/...ntents/MacOS/ARDAgent" has been modified and will not be repaired.
Warning: SUID File "System/Library/PrivateFrameworks/DesktopService...ions/A/Resources/Locum" has been modified and will not be repaired.
    Any ideas?

    Not everybody gets them.
Personally, I refuse to be inconvenienced by a software glitch over which I can exercise some control.
These particular SUID warnings can be eliminated although the fix is not for the faint hearted. The solution is documented in [this thread|http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=10482083&tstart=50].

  • TS5362 When I typed in -/Library/Keychains/  in the Go To Folder box, I got the message back that the folder could not be found.  Possibly to add to that, when I did a permissions repair I got this message "SUID file sys/Lib/CoreS...has been modified...

When I typed in -/Library/Keychains/  in the Go To Folder box, I got the message  that the folder could not be found.  Possibly related to that, when I did a permissions repair I got this message "SUID file sys/Lib/CoreS...has been modified and will not be repaired.  How can I undo the problems that Mavericks 10.9.1 seems to have caused?

    1. You need to type or paste in ~/Library/Keychains/ and not -/Library/Keychains/.
    2. If the repair permissions message refers to ARDAgent, it's normal.

  • Back to SUID permission problems

No sooner did I get my permission problems taken care of w/ 10.5, than I got a bunch w/ my 10.5.1 update today. Just FYI, I've got 2 mac's w/ 2 independent 10.5 installs and updates to 10.5.1. Both are giving me the same error message in DU pertaining to SUID permission problems:

Apple says they are not a problem. If you want to get rid of them run 10.5.1 update and it usually gets rid of the warning. It got rid of all mine. Get it here http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macosx1051update.html

    any one know whats up?

Unless you get strange messages that a file cannot be accessed, you don't have a permission problem.
First step for slow system is check the free space on the hard drive. You should have at least 20GB free, but 50 is better. If the drive sounds like it is constantly reading and writing, you don't have enough free space.
Next, boot into Safe Mode by holding down Shift key. It will do some maintenance, so it will take a little while. Check things out while in Safe Mode. It disables third-party stuff that might cause problems.
Reboot normally and see if it runs ok.

Hold everything! I went to my Apple store to pick up my Macbook Air which had been repaired. I told them about my problem and your solution for my MacBook Pro. They told me that "System/Library......" meant there was a defect!!
I was asked to return the computer and receive a replacement which I did. They said the warning meant that there was a conflict somewhere within the hardware that could not be repaired (they tried).
