Suitable Architecture - Discussion

Hi,
I am thinking about an architecture which should offer both better software reusability and should include less testing time for following requirement. Application needs to be developed for testing 100 different DUT’s and application will be developed in stages – like 1st month for 10 DUT’s (including testing and validation of the test program) and in the second month for next 20 DUT’s like that. We can use TestStand and LabVIEW for this. I have following architecture in mind.
For better software reusability we can create set of reusable VI’s and these VI’s can be called from TestStand sequence. Individual sequence can be created for each DUT and this sequence will pass required information to LabVIEW VI based on DUT type.
Using this approach we can reuse all LabVIEW modules. This approach will work well as long as there is no change in LabVIEW code.
If I want to change any of the LabVIEW module which is called by all DUT test sequences than we have no option but to change the code and test all test sequences. So when we are closing to release 100th DUT sequence and if we are changing one LabVIEW module which is called by all sequences than we need to test all 100 DUT sequences which is not at all reasonable.
To avoid this problem we can develop a separate VI, when we want to change a reusable VI, so all existing sequences won’t change in any way and new sequences will call this new VI so that we don’t have to test old sequences.
I am seeing a problem here, if we are going to add new VI’s for each change, than in the end we will have many VI’s with slight changes and maintenance will be a real problem.
Is there any better way to overcome this? Is there any other better architecture to approach this kind of applications? Kindly update me with your thoughts
  Thanks,
Venkatakrishna

Thanks a lot for the suggestion; definitely this will work well as long as user is not installing different releases in a same folder.
Yes, this would be a requirement not to overwrite VI's.  I like your idea of having the sequences in local folder and maintaining the "released" VIs in separate folders.  Not sure what you mean about "We can also find a way to navigate through multiple folders to list DUT types; just some more work", it must be specific to your setup.
Right now I am using TestStand just to call VI’s and to move parameters to them. I have LabVIEW code module which will do complete testing and will pass results to TestStand. Breaking this LabVIEW code in to drivers and calling them from TestStand will help us in implementing this better? I am sure this will slow down the execution speed because TestStand is much slower than LabVIEW especially when VI is called in a TestStand loop.
I have seen maintenance benefits by creating sequences/subsequences that replace "bloated", test all-in-one, VI's.  If the VI is written cleanly with good use of subVI's it is not too tough to migrate a top level VI to an equivalent subsequence.  It could actually improve performance in some cases.  For example the initializing of instruments in a single setup section.  However, your example loop example may be better suited in a VI.  I am not sure though, if the TestStand loop would perform that bad if it is optimized.  For example, it would help to be run in a subsequence with the tracing off...
Overall, my main suggestion is to share code in a development environment, using source code control tool.  Literally sharing the exact same VI on an executing machine will cause the maintenance headaches that you have already anticipated.
I agree with Felix that you should keep track of VI versions.  I have used MKS Source Integrity in the past and it was a good SCC tool that would generate reports so you could get a quick snap shot of which projects use which versions of code.  It also provided a checkpoint feature that would resynchronize your sandbox to the versions of coded that were checkpointed. Good tools like these can really make your life easier unfortunately it is not a free tool.  I am not sure what features the free ones have. Changing the VI name could work but it could come at a cost of reloading all the sequence prototypes and re-linking VI's depending on when the name change occurred.

  • Let's get an MP3 player headphone/earbud discussion going

I am shocked to see how little use this little slice of this great forum is. As we all know, the earbuds that typically accompany any stock MP3 player are usually sub-standard, at best. Often they are terrible. Occaisionly they are passable, and once in a blue moon they are great. It always amazes me that MP3 player companies, Creative included, don't realize that they could really push their players over the top by adding a good set of buds. In fact, Sony has just done this. One of their new MP3 players is being shipped with a higher end set of Sony earbuds that typically go for $70 all by themselves. CNET is raving about the player, particulary how it is one of the only players out there that sounds fantastic "out of the box". And now I'm starting to see discussions on the CNET MP3 player forums comparing that particular Sony to the new ZEN with lot's of people leaning to the Sony just because it does not require a new set of buds to really bring out the quality of the music.
Now we all know that a lot of people are clueless when it comes to this aspect. It amazes me the people who will spend $500 on a high-end MP3 player and then not bother to replace the crappy buds that come bundled with it (cough, cough, iPod, cough). If you fall into this category do yourself a favor and go out and try some quality buds or headphones for your MP3 player. You'll be quite astounded how much more you'll enjoy listening to your music. As with any audio device, you'll have to pay for that quality. But quality can be found in everyone's budget. CNET is a great place to start and learn. You'll be happy to know that Creative's Aurvana buds are highly rated in their price category and quite frankly, the next time Creative releases a new higer-end product, say the ZEN 32 GB due out in first quarter 2008 (or so I've read), they would be super smart to include a nice set of these buds with that player even if it means bumping the price a bit and eating some profit.
I recently bought my fifth Creative product, the 16 GB ZEN. It's a great player. Not perfect, but certainly a top contender in the high-cap flash-based MP3 player market. As always, the included buds were passable. So I embarked upon a search for the perfect set of headphones and/or buds in my price range.
I set my price range between $100 and $150. That's a ton of money for some, nothing for others. I was pleasantly surprised with what is out there. Here is what I found, what I tried, what I thought, what I kept, and what went back. I am somewhat limited in my testing by the fact that I pretty much just use Best Buy. While I really don't like the store, the one good thing they have is a 30-day money back return policy. So I can just keep trying headphones and returning them to try others until I find the ones I like.
The first thing I tried was pair of Bose full around ear (AE) TriPort headphones. CNET has called these the poor-man's QuietComfort 2's, a noise-canceling Bose product highly rated by CNET. The TriPorts are great phones, light weight, and great sounding. Best Buy price is$140. Great audio quality and they block out most regular outside noise. The downside, for me at least, is my ears tend to sweat after extended listening. I still have these and will keep them. My daughter liked them so much she's getting a pair for Christmas although she doesn't know it yet. These are better for your ears because they don't pipe music directly into the canal and are less likely to cause any damage to hearing.
The next thing I tried was a set of Bose on ear (OE) TriPorts. These are pretty much the same drivers as the AE's but they sit comfortably on the ear instead of around them. The upside is that they don't sweat as much. Downside is, if you're a woman (or a guy) who wears earrings they can be less comfortable because they press on the earrings. The audio quality is much same, ie: great, as the AE models but not quite as good. The sound isolation is also surprisingly good. I like the design of these phones much better too. They have a single cord design (the AE's have a dual cord) and the cord is modual. I love short cords as I just keep my player in a shirt pocket so a long cord is just a drag, pun intended. The OE models also come with a much nicer, hard case, the AE's just come with a cloth bag. The phones fold up smaller and fit into the case nicely for storage and transport. The real downside to these phones, the price: $180. While the cord design and case are nice touches they really don't (to me anyway) justify the extra $40. That said, I still have these phones too as I like them for work for the short cord. The jury is still out as to whether or not I'll keep them.
Next up I tried the Sure SE210 earbuds, actually ear canal phones. These are pricey at $150 but for Shure products that's actually just a step up from entry level! I thought it would be good to have a nice set of quality buds for those times when I don't want to walk around with headphones on. The Shure's are raved about on CNET. I was not impressed. The sound was just okay and I really don't like things sticking IN my ear canals for long periods of time. It just get's painful for me. The Shure's do come with the 'comfort pack' which has several different styles and sizes of tips to maximize comfort but I just couldn't see them getting enough use to justify the price. They went back.
Next up was the Bose TriPort earbuds. These got a mediocre review over at CNET but I thought since I'd tried the other two in the line I'd give these a go. They are $99 at BB. These are not ear canal phones and are not meant to into the ear and form a tight seal. They sounded very good and were very comfortable. But they just didn't feel stable. I move around at work a lot an they always felt like they were going to fall out and the quality and level of music would change with the movement. They went back.
Last up, the Shure SE110 earbuds. Again, these are ear canal phones meant to go into the ear canal and form a seal for maximum bass and sound. I bought these on a whim. They are $99 at BB. They pretty much sound just like the SE210's to me - I'm not sure what the difference was supposed to be. CNET gives these a decent review and recommends them in their price point range. I tried them at work and was going to take them right back. But I've been unable to get them back for a few days so I tried them again last night. I finally found a set of the 'comfort pack' tips that fit me best, the small rubber ones, and I can wear them for longer periods of time without as much discomfort. And when in the ear with a good seal they sound pretty good, much better than any stock earbud, but not as good as the Bose AE or OE phones.
So the jury is out on these ones. I'm thinking they'll go back. It seems you have to go up to the SE310's to get a really good bud from Shure but that's up around $200 to $250, a bit more than I'll spend for now at least. If I end up taking the SE110's AND the Bose OE TriPort's back than I'd have enough to try out a pair but our BB doesn't sell them so I'd have to find another local or online dealer with a nice return policy. Online sucks because of course you have to send them back and pay shipping. Much easier to just go to a counter!
If you've really got a ton of money, I hear the new Shure SE530's are nothing short of fantasic - or so says CNET. I'd love to try a set but at$450 to $500 a set that's not going happen any time soon. I might just go back to BB and try a bunch of lower end stuff in the $50 to $100 range and see if anything in that price point range blows my mind.
Anyhow, I thought his forum was sadly lacking and thought I'd at least give a good post to get it going. If any of you have done this type of testing, or just have a great set of buds or headphones you use, please share your opinion's here. Let's get this rock rolling down the hill!

    Hi methos1979,
This forum has only just been created, all the other forums have been on the board much longer, so we should hopefully see more posts appearing here.
While I appreciate and understand the intention of the thread, this is not a suitable place to discuss non-Creative products. This forum was intended for discussion of Creative headphones, headsets and earphones.

  • How to connect OracleVM from my localhost

    Hi All,
I installed OracleLinux Vm on my windows machine. Now i am planning to access that vm through putty.
What are the settings i need to do ?

I think the "Host-only" adapter deserves to have a little bit more attention. After all it is a very important network adapter in the VirtualBox world, in particular when installing Oracle Databases. For instance, it allows any guest OS to use a fixed or automatic TCP/IP addressing according to the range defined by the VirtualBox "vboxnet" adapter. However, and this is were all documentation I have seen so far were unclear to me, any guest OS installed on the same computer must use the IP address of the "host-only" adapter (192.168.56.1) to connect to services provided by the host OS, instead of the actual or real IP address of the host OS.
The VirtualBox forum might actually be a more suitable place to discuss VirtualBox setup questions.
To the original poster: What are you actually trying to accomplish? Do you need to know how to enter an IP address in Putty or how to use it with X Window client software. What is your concern or problem? Please be more specific.

  • Publishing CRM 2011 on Web Applicaiton Proxy Using Kerberos Constrained Delegation

    Hello,
Couldn't find a sub category that seemed suitable for this discussion so I just dropped it in Windows Server 2012 General.
    So to summarize...
Web Application Proxy (WAP) on 2012r2, ADFS on 2012r2, and CRM 2011 RU11 is on 2008r2.
WAP has a pass through rule setup for the ADFS site and a preauth rule setup for the CRM site.  All SPNs and delegation are setup in AD.
Setup is 1 WAP, 1 NIC, 1 ADFS server and 1 CRM server.
I have successfully publish my CRM 2011 site on Web application proxy and am successfully doing Kerberos Constrained Delegation.  I am also doing Client certificate authentication on the ADFS server which works fine.  I am doing this over 49443
    just fine.
Try to access the CRM site, WAP redirects me to ADFS as expect, Client certificate auth happens at the ADFS server,  I am redirected back to my CRM site with my authToken so pre authentication can happen successfully.  KCD ensues after just fine
and i am reverse proxied back to the CRM site.
Here in lies the problem though...
When i am reversed proxied back to the CRM site, i receive the standard "An error has occurred Try this action again.... yada yada yada" message with the Try Again or Close button.  If i click try again, i am able to access the site with no
problem and the solution works great!  This obviously is not acceptable though.
The error URL looks like the following (changed it for obvious reasons)
    https://crmsite.contoso.com/ORG1/_common/error/errorhandler.aspx?BackUri=https%3a%2f%2fadfs.contoso.com%2fadfs%2fls%3fversion%3d1.0%26action%3dsignin%26realm%3durn%253AAppProxy%253Acom%26appRealm%3d63ce68f1-3de4-e411-9412-005056a67a8d%26returnUrl%3dhttps%253A%252F%252Fcrmsite.contoso.com%252F%26client-request-id%3d4A1A0958-76F3-0000-5D91-1C4AF376D001&ErrorCode=&Parm0=%0d%0a%0d%0aError%20Details%3a%20An%20unhandled%20exception%20occurred%20during%20the%20execution%20of%20the%20current%20web%20request.%20Please%20review%20the%20stack%20trace%20for%20more%20information%20about%20the%20error%20and%20where%20it%20originated%20in%20the%20code.&RequestUri=%2fdefault.aspx
The error that correlates to this in CRM is
    Event code: 3005
Event message: An unhandled exception has occurred.
    Little bit further down
    Exception information:
        Exception type: InvalidOperationException
Exception message: CRM Parameter Filter - Invalid parameter 'AuthMethod=CertificateAuthentication' in Request.Form on page /default.aspx
If anybody has any insight or experience publishing CRM on WAP using KCD and has run into this issue, help would be greatly appreciated.
Also to head of this question, we can not do an IFD setup.  There is a custom developed solution which resides on top of the CRM installation that is not claims friendly.
    Thanks!
    Jonathan

This is obviously not a suitable topic for discussion on a Creative Labs forum. Please take your discussion to the respective vendor.

    Hi David,
    no problem :-)
You just happened to post this question to the Adobe Dreamweaver Developer Toolbox (http://www.adobe.com/products/dreamweaver/addt/) forums, which are related to a rather specific Dreamweaver extension.
As the scenario you´re describing seems more suitable for being discussed in the regular "Dreamweaver Application Development" forum, I suggest to repost your question over there:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/categories.cfm?forumid=12&catid=263
    Cheers,
    Günter Schenk
    Adobe Community Expert, Dreamweaver
P.S. When posting in the Dreamweaver Application Development forum, it will also be quite helpful to mention the "Server Model" you´re using, means e.g. PHP, ASP, ColdFusion

Your question is meaningless, and also you've posted in the forum for making podcasts. I would ask to have it move to a more suitable forum but I have no idea what you are talking about and can only suggest you look at the forums list and choose a suitable forum.

I am not clear what your problem is and importantly whether you are trying to ask for help with Firefox.
If you have a Firefox problem can you explain what you need help with please. If the problem is with a new Windows 8 operating system you will need to find a suitable forum to discuss that.
A websearch will turn up many suitable fora one possibility is

If you want to leave feedback for Firefox developers, you can go to the Firefox ''Help'' menu and select ''Submit Feedback...'' or use [https://input.mozilla.org/feedback this link]. (You'll need to be on the latest version of Firefox to submit feedback). • Block iOS 8

This question may be more suitable in iOS discussion but I can't find iOS related discussion. I have an iPad Air with the latest version of iOS 7. I do not want to upgrade to iOS 8. I understand that the device will automatically download the update when it's charging and WiFi connection is available. If I'm not mistaken, the size of iOS 8 update is very close to 1GB. I don't want it to take up my storage space.
Does anyone know how to block my iPad from automatically downloading? I should be able to block this by URL but I don't know which URL to block. Let me know if there's a more effective way to block. Thanks.

    Hi,
You say EM was running fine before, but now it is giving you this error message. Did you access EM on this URL you mentioned below? Is this a standaone installation?
You may want to use the FMW forums for this question. EM HA Configuration forum may not be the most suitable for this discussion.

  • Tens of Thousands having massive problems with Flash Playing Cityville

Literally tens, possibly hundreds, of thousands of people are having problems with FlashPlayer crashing constantly while trying to play a Zynga game, Cityville, which plays on Facebook while running the game on Google Chrome. None of us had this problem before sometime last week and now playing the game is all but impossible. Sometimes the game works for a minute or two with great lag and sometimes it shuts down right after you get the game up and running. The only message we get is that Flashplayer has crashed. We can restore the page and go again for a minute but the problem occurs time after time. Does anyone know a solution or does  anyone know how to get Adobe, Zynga and Facebbok to get together and solve the problem? Most of us are just computer users and aren't computer savvy so don't know what to do.
I followed instructions on my PC and got a little more info. It seems that Windows 'sees' the program on it's initiation as a possible threat to the system and/or running too slowly. Her is some information I found but I don't know and am afraid to do anything else with it.
Heck, I can't even upload that; I'm told the file type isn't allowed. LOL  Anyhow it told me that I should go into my MOTO Connect Service and manually select (with instructions) the .EXE file for the app to bee an exception to the genral DEP. I didn't do that because I was a bit timid and also never found an .exe file that looked correct. Perhaps I should be happy about that....
Anyhow, there are over 6 million people who regularly play Cityville and all of them no doubt have adjusted their opinions about Adobe because of this. Shame is that it is not likely even Adobe's problem.

If you are having issues with the Flash Player, there is a forum dedicated to it that would be a more suitable place for discussions about it...

  • What Kind of microcontroller is needed for alarm system with PIR sensors

Hi ! I'm student at Technical University Varna ,
Bulgaria . I'm interessted to create my own alarm system with Labview,
but I'm not sure what kind of controller i need and what kind of PIR
    sensors.                  Thank You

    Hi xellos,
I'm not sure what you need, but if my feelings is right, than what you  want to do is sort of motion detector based on PIR sensor and some ucontroller. It this is what you need, than once again, such a question is rather suitable for other discussion forums, like LabVIEW Embedded.
However, in general you can go for ARM or Blackfin when thinking about embedded platform. See following links to get more ingormation on ARM and Blackfin with LabVIEW:
NI LabVIEW Embedded Module for ARM Microcontrollers
NI LabVIEW Embedded Module for ADI Blackfin Processors Development Kit
With choosing sensor, I suggest simple googling - with relativly little effort you can find many sensors. And you can pick on specification and requirements you have (just to note, National Instruments is not producing and usualy not selling sensors).
