Suitable card for k8tneofisr2

I recently built my rig but ran out of cash before I could replace the graphics card. I currently have an MSI FX5600XT and am now looking to replace it with something better. My current budget is approx £150, which I realise won't get me anywhere near something substantial but wonder if you guys have any suggestions/experiences. I've looked at lots of reviews etc and, in all honesty, get quite confused with them (XT, Ultra, SE, Pro, - all very confusing to me.
I'm also looking to replace my PSU to an Enermax 465 but they now seem to be difficult to come by in the UK.
Thanks

depending on what you want to do
9600xt's are a good base (nvida 5700ultra)..but will get outdated soon
then about the best deal going is the 9800 pro (5950)
6800 gts and x800pros are great but probably over your budget.
i personaly stay away from se, or le's cause they are like celerons.
btw 9600xt you will have to turn off a few bells and whistles for doom3

  • Suitable card for three stepper motors

    Hello everyone,
I want to ask which DAQ card would be suitable for controlling three (X,Y,Z stage) stepper motors using continuous and/or finite pulse generation.  X and Y stages have to be independent on each other (i.e. diagonal movement), Z one does not but it would be nice. Solution may include buying two cards to ensure the independency of counters.
I have heard that for finite pulse generation two counters are used for one axis (stage). Does it mean I need a card with six counters? Or two cards with four and two counters? In that case, our lab is equipped with the old 6035E card providing two counters (unfortunately not independent in finite pulse generation mode probably due to the statement above), which could handle one of the axes.
I dont want to use DIO for pulse generation because there is no possibility to control the frequency of pulses. Frequency for the stepper motor varies from 1000 to 2000 Hz.

    Hi Diego,
There is a way to only use one counter to output a finite digital pulse train.
Normally when performing a finite counter output operation, two counters are required. One counter is used to actually output the pulses and another is used to gate the first counter and therefore output a finite number of pulses.
The way to accomplish this same behavior with a single counter is by setting up a continuous pulse output task with a start trigger and a pause trigger. The pause trigger takes the place of the second counter normally used as the gate signal, freeing this counter to be used for other operations.
Finally, an external source must be used to create a pulse of a desired width in order to achieve a finite pulse train that used a single counter on the PCI-6602.  In the case below the external signal is passed to Dev3/PFI0, which has been configured to be the pause trigger source terminal.
Pause triggers are only valid for continuous sampling mode with implicit timing. You can find the properties for the proerpty node in the following locations:
Properties » More » Pause » Trigger Type
Properties » More » Pause » Digital Level » Source
Properties » More » Pause » Digital Level » Pause When
For each property, right-click the terminal and select Create » Control or Create » Constant  from the shortcut menu.
Keep in mind also that there are stepper motor controllers available from NI like 7332. For more information check the link above:

  • Aiport card for OSX 10.2.8

    Hi
I have wi fi access via lap top but also have an imac OSX 10-2-8.
I recently wondered if I can get an airport card for the imac 10-2-8 if so where and are they easy to fit?
    Thanks

Only retail and full-installation system discs intended for a variety of
supported Mac computers, and not disc sets shipped with specific
single model Macs, are capable of being used in more than one model.
Usually, when an incorrect and unsupported disc is attempted to be
used in an improper computer environment, there will be errors &
messages; and the process will not be allowed. So those Original and
as-shipped system discs are expressly for those Macs they shipped with.
    And an OS X 10.4.x install disc from a PowerPC-Mac or Intel-Mac can't
do anything for the other computing architecture. If any of the newer OS
X install discs are full retail and not model/build specific discs, then it
may be possible to use them in more than one model computer; but only
one at a time, unless the user license says Family (up to five installs.)
The information online from everymac.com, and http://www.apple.com/support/
for hardware and system software, can be helpful in determining what of the
Mac computers could be updated or upgraded to a different system & which OS
versions could be supported in what versions and vintage computer hardware.
The MacTracker free to download & use in a computer, http://mactracker.ca - is
good for checking the computer model and also under another category in there,
looking into the system software versions; and comparing compatibility of both
to see what is suitable. Also, the other hardware in the computer often needs an
upgrade to accommodate the demands of a newer OS X system in an older Mac.
Noting the optical drive versions and OS X install disc media types, is important
detail information, since retail install discs are mostly on DVD media; those Macs
with Combo or SuperDrive optical drive devices are the borderline indicators of
the ease or troubles one may find in upgrading an older computer to their last
supported OS versions. And the PowerPC Macs are limited to Leopard 10.5.8
or before; plus other hardware limitations as noted in the Support specifications
as to what processor series, minimal RAM requirements, minimal hard drive space
available for an installation (plus more required to run the OS X and apps) + etc.
So, while the discs from those computers you note are not necessarily capable of
being used in different models, to have and use an OS in more than one at a time
(if supported) falls outside of the known and published software user agreements,
then any details of those kinds actions not in agreement with the terms of use, would
be likely considered to be not legal. Or in the case of unsupported software, impossible.
However, you could still find fair deals from private persons on out-of-date retail OS X
install disc sets; if you are fortunate and timely, some of them can be great deals, too.
And you may be able to get Leopard 10.5 retail DVD install discs direct from Apple Sales
via the web page main phone number; for those computers whose hardware can't use
Snow Leopard 10.6. From Apple, direct via phone, even the retail price can be less than
some of the speculatively-priced online auction sales listing are asking or getting. In a
few cases where Tiger 10.4 is needed and Leopard 10.5 won't work, you may also ask
to see if Apple can supply you with a suitable DVD disc installer from Apple sales, via
the web site phone number (1-800-MY-APPLE) for a price near original retail; which is
no longer available at retail outlets and more scarce at other online vendor sites.
Discs purchased separate and later than the computer, if retail (to a limited degree)
could be used to upgrade another computer; but single user license states one Mac
per installer (unless retail disc says Family license) and the software has to be of a
version supported by the hardware. *+{Perhaps this question should be revised into a+*
*+new thread under the computing hardware involved, or a newer OS X version topic+*
*+so it won't be tied to an AirPort Card or Jaguar OS X 10.2.8, any longer.}+*
Hopefully some of this may be helpful; but in any event...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • Suitable laptop for video editing

    Hello,
for months now I am looking for a suitable laptop for video editing of  my footage captured by Canon 60D (and also GoPro). Since it is in a HD quality and h.264  format it puts a great strain on the CPU. I already had to return an  ASUS U30J and Dell XPS14 both with i7 processors because of their  terribly slow performance :(. So now, I really want to be 100% sure that  the laptop will be able to smoothly handle my footage. I am using Adobe  Premiere Pro CS5 for video editing and I do need a laptop (preferably 15'')  as I travel all the time.
Here are the specifications of the Force 16F2 laptop built on MSI 16F2 (from the xoticpc.com), which I have chosen so far:
    FORCE 16F2 / MSI 16F2
    -  15.6” FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Glare Type Screen
    -  2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-2720QM, 2.2-3.3GHz, (32nm, 6MB L3 cache)
    -  IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU (Cools better than all Compounds)
    -  nVidia GeForce GTX 560M 1,536MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11
    -  12,288MB (12GB) DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (2x4GB 2x2GB)-
    -  Standard Finish
    -  - 500GB (w/ 4GB SSD Memory) Seagate XT 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid 32MB Cache (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s)-   or 750GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Buffer (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s)--
    - 750GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Buffer (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s)-
    -  Raid 0  Stripe Enabled (Requires 2 or 3 Hard Drives. Combines Hard Drives for performance)
    -  500GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Buffer (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s) in ODD Bay
    -  3 Year Complete Care Warranty - 3 Year Parts with Ground Shipping, 24/7 Telephone Tech Support & Lifetime Labor Warranty
I would like to ask you what do you think about this configuration  regarding my requirements? Will this system be powerful enough to handle  the h.264 footage? I would like to use both the SLR camera and the laptop as long as possible and don't have to change the laptop in one year time or so. That's why I would like the system to be powerful enough to withstand even future demands of the software, etc.
I was also not sure about the 500GB (w/ 4GB SSD Memory) Seagate XT 7200RPM NCQ Hybrid 32MB Cache (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s. Do you think it is a smart choice? Is the 4GB SSD memory of any use? Or should I rather go with the 750GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Buffer (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s)?
I don't have any previous experience with the raid system, do you think that the Raid 0  Stripe Enabled (Requires 2 or 3 Hard Drives. Combines Hard Drives for performance) is the right choice for smooth video editing? I know that I have to use at least 2 hard drives so that's why I'd rather order 3 HDD to get the best performance..
This configuration is worth 1800USD, I would obviously like to save some  money as I will need to pay also the shipping costs, tax and duty (I  currently live in New Delhi)... So if you think that something from the  system might be downgraded and I would still get good video editing  results, please let me know.
Do you think that the 3 Year Complete Care Warranty - 3 Year Parts with Ground Shipping, 24/7 Telephone Tech Support & Lifetime Labor Warranty is of any use when I am not from the US? Should I rather go with the 1 Year warranty?
I would very much appreciate any feedback from you!
    Misha

Frederick, I will firstly answer your questions, I am in no way a pro video editor, my projects are up to 10MB of size although I wasn't yet able to edit the h.264 footage properly ... I mostly do events and quite simple projects, effects, two to three timelines... I use only h.264, my older projects are in DV quality thought. I usually have to rush to finish a project since I have limited time during the travels.. I usually work at one, maximum two projects at the same time
Now, I have been trying to figure out what would be the best configuration for me and ended up with these two options, which are touching (maybe even overflowing) my budget... Both are worth around USD2100 (without shipping, etc.). Either I  will be going for one SSD disk for the OS or for maximum CPU and RAM.  Which configuration would you recommend me? Do you think that the second configuration is an overkill when taken into account the size and scope of my projects?
    With SSD disk:
    FORCE 16F2 / MSI 16F2
    -  15.6” FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Matte Type Screen
    -  2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-2720QM, 2.2-3.3GHz, (32nm, 6MB L3 cache)
    -  IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU (Cools better than all Compounds)
    -  nVidia GeForce GTX 560M 1,536MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11
    -  10,240MB (10GB) DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (1x4GB 3x2GB)
    -  Standard Finish
    -  - 120GB OCZ Vertex 3 MAX IOPS Sandforce Solid State Drive (Up to Sequential Read 550MB/s - Write 500MB/s SSD Serial-ATA III)
    -  - 750GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Buffer (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s)-
    -  HDD Raid Settings - OFF
    -  320GB 7200RPM WD or Seagate (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s) in ODD Bay
    -  3 Year Complete Care Warranty - 3 Year Parts with Ground Shipping, 24/7 Telephone Tech Support & Lifetime Labor Warranty
    With better CPU and RAM:
    FORCE 16F2 / MSI 16F2
    -  15.6” FHD 16:9 LED Backlit Wide screen (1920x1080) Super Clear Matte Type Screen
    -  2nd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-2820QM, 2.3-3.4GHz, (32nm, 8MB L3 cache)
    -  IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU (Cools better than all Compounds)
    -  nVidia GeForce GTX 560M 1,536MB PCI-Express GDDR5 DX11
    -  16,384MB (16GB) DDR3 1333MHz Dual Channel Memory (4x4GB)-SPECIAL
    -  Standard Finish
    -  - 750GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Buffer (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s)-
    -  - 750GB 7200RPM 16MB Cache Buffer (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s)-
    -  HDD Raid Settings - OFF
    -  320GB 7200RPM WD or Seagate (Serial-ATA II 3GB/s) in ODD Bay
    -  Stock OEM Thermal Compound (       IC Diamond Thermal Compound - CPU + GPU Provided FREE with Processor Upgrade!)
    -  Internal 7-in-1 Card Reader (MS/MS Pro/MS Duo/MS Pro Duo/SD/Mini-SD/MMC/RS)
    -  Internal Bluetooth + EDR
    -  Built-in 802.11 Wireless B/G/N - Stock Wireless Card
    -  Integrated Digital Video Camera
    -  Sound Blaster Compatible 3D Audio - Included
    -  Smart Li-ion Battery (9-Cell)
    -  3 Year Complete Care Warranty - 3 Year Parts with Ground Shipping, 24/7 Telephone Tech Support & Lifetime Labor Warranty
Frederick, regarding the RAM I checked the 8GB option and it comes in 2GBx4 so I won't be able to save those slots. Plus I have been searching for prices of the RAM, HDD and SSD in the US and they don't seem to be that great for me to even consider them... I would simply have to pay more and would end up with unused parts from the basic configuration. I think that the Xoticpc have quite reasonable prices of the upgrades they offer... Plus I can count on higher prices of the components here in India so all in all I think that it would cost me too much energy and save me minimum bucks...  That's why I thought I might go for the 16GB RAM straight away if it isn't an overkill for me. As I said before, I would love to save money (after all I am a woman   who controls the common budget) so please let me  know, if I am just wasting money for high end technology which I won't be able to use . I rather think that in the future once I will finally be able to make  some money when I will have a machine to work on, I might upgrade to  better hard drives (SSD possibly). But right now I need a laptop on  which I would be able to smoothly edit the HD h.264 footage.
Thank you very much for your help!

Don't bother, as your friend will not be able to use it.
As noted in the iTunes USA Store Terms and Conditions: "Gift Certificates, iTunes Cards, Content Codes, and Allowances purchased in the United States may be redeemed through the Services only in the United States, its territories, and possessions." And further:  "You agree not to use or attempt to use the iTunes Service from outside these locations. Apple may use technologies to verify your compliance."
Try to find a more suitable gift for your friend.

  • Tv tuner card for imac 400mhz powerpc g3

tv tuner card for imac 400mhz powerpc g3 - 256ram - I'm running os x 10.3.9. Does anyone know of a tv tuner card or device that I can use to watch tv on my imac?

Unfortunately most of these TV devices require USB2 bandwidth so are not suitable for the iMac G3.
The Firewire versions (EyeTV 310, 410 and 610 depending on input type) are the only options.
The EyeTV 250 is an analogue only Tuner that does work on USB1.1 but in a low quality mode only.

  • PCI Card for a new SSD. Good Idea?

Just upgragraded my 2009 MP (processor 3.33, video card, Ram). Just got a new 256 Samsung SSD wich is going below the optical drive. Did a search here about PCIe card for the drive and found that there's good and bad about it. Found this model model (Velocity solo x2). Is there one specific brand more suitable? or just make it simple and install the ssd below the optical drive.
    Thanks

The 2008 only has two 16x PCIe slots and the Sonnet Tempo Pro should be in the #2.
Even gpu's do not do as well as later models in performance, and some PCIe cards only supported booting in a 2009 or later.
Installing Mac OS to Sonnet Tempo I am sure you have read of the issues and how to get around it, is even on Sonnettech.com
Even though it 'tests' as xyz MB/sec in the real world the system is fine on SATA2 and in non-RAID setups. The 0.1ns seeks and latency and higher IO for reads. Someone did some thorough tests of different SSDs, different PCIe cards and the synthetic benchmarks. And concluded there was no real difference to the system and work load whether the system was on SATA2, but could be work performance using PCIE for other uses.
Generally I find this to be helpful start: www.macperformanceguide.com on perfomance
Putting scratch and graphic libraries for Aperture/Lightroom and others on a SSD and on a separarte bus helped. Even helps having iPhoto on SSD and the photo library folder on another drive - so you aren't read and write to same.
SoftRAID 4 - using 3 drives in a mirror but it uses "stripped reads" seems like it is fast, simple, less overhead and most people just never get idea of using more than two drives in a mirror, but it works great and makes it easy to pull one for backup. SoftRAID also does a better threaded background rebuild, and during idle time scans its drives for errors and bad or weak sectors. A lifesaver.
Even using the optical bay for the system might be perfect and then using the Tempo Pro for other uses.
With system's and SSD's and stripped, then of course a couple restore images and run DU against the array with TRIM enabled on a weekly basis, something, especially if the array is getting hammered as scratch. Tests though show those SSDs can take huge TBs of punishment day after day, but I have seen my own and read of too many errors.

  • USB 2.0 card for my 2011 Mac Pro. Reccomendations?

I need a USB 2.0 card for my 2011 Mac Pro desktop. Can anyone reccomend a product or what I need to look for (host interface etc) when searching for a suitable card?

Amazon UK then perhaps? OWC/Macsales is a good place to see what products they have as they are Mac primarily and support Mac Pro of course.
the products they have will list and of course they need to work in 1x as well as 4x.
Lion has been out a year, and unlike ML or early adopters most should or will but again, look and make sure it says 10.7.4, some may say 10.6 or later - have to ask.
You can also dig around and find what chip a product uses and is based on and then shop for similar chip based.
Can we assume you need more USB ports, or you have dead USB on the Mac and not for disk drives in which case USB3 or eSATA are better but USB3 has been iffy on Macs - now that Apple has some and some support in 10.8 while CalDigit card needed drivers for theirs.

Hi I would like to know what WIRELESS NIC CARD for HP6126UK would be suitable, as i would like to connect to a wireless connection.

    Hi:
The easiest thing to do is to purchase an external usb wireless adapter for your PC.
That way you don't have to be concerned with what will specifically work for your PC.
All external usb adapters should work.
    Something like this:

  • Graphics card for G5 Quad

Can anyone recommend a suitable second graphics card for a G5 Quad? More and more I work now with importing TV programmes and films into QT,but still need to use my VHS from time to time.My plan is to ditch my CRT monitor and move over to an LCD.That's fine for viewing a digital source from within the Mac,but how can I also hook up the VHS sop that I can use that with the LCD also?
    Thanks for any advice

I wouldn't add a second graphics card, too much demand on the PCI bus, and may cause problems with audio artifacts, we had that problem, plus horrible speed penalties. (We were using a MOTU 24i/o as well). My recommendation would be to use the firewire output to video (using a firewire device like the Canopus ADV-110) OR a card with dual display (Does yours support dual display? the ATI does) and put a scan converter on the second output. i hope that will do what you need.

  • How can I copy mp3 files from my Itunes library to an SD card for use in a non-apple phone?

How can I copy mp3 files from my Itunes library to an SD card for use in a non-apple phone?  I can physically copy the tunes as mp3's but the phone does not seem to be able to play all of them.   Do I need to copy an entire album or can I just pick & choose individual songs?   The phone is question is an LG running who knows what for an operating system.

AAC is Advanced Audio Coding.  Basically it's a format that sounds better than MP3 but doesn't take up as much space as a lossless format (like you'd have on a CD).  More than likely you've had that encoding turned on when you ripped your music into itunes (it's the default encoder).  Therefore your LG phone won't play them.
You need to turn off the AAC format by going to the iTunes menu, Preferences, General (at the top), then clicking the "Import Preferences" button.  Change the AAC Encoder to MP3 Encoder.  After that you'll have to make MP3 copies of your songs by right clicking them and selecting "Create MP3 Version."  You'll get a copy of the song that should transfer to your SD card and have MP3 encoding.  Hopefully your phone will play that.

  • One card for OSX and one for windows...

OK, I've been following the ongoing debate regarding the choice of graphics cards for the Mac Pro. I think saying that it's limited would be putting it mildly.
Now, I really wish for a few more horsepower for when I'm playing Warcraft in Bootcamp but I really don't want to fork out £270 for the 1900XT just for apple to come along and update the range in x months and as I only really need the extra oomph in windows I wouldnt really see any benefit in OSX from the new card. Some people have touched on the idea of perhaps using a seperate card for when using windows. This would be great as I can get a better card for use in windows for a fraction of the price of a new apple card. What are the pro's and con's of doing this? Would the non-apple card confuse OSX and vica-versa would windows see both cards? Would I need to specify in windows which card I want to use? Would I have to remove a card each time I booted in the 'other' OS?
Educate me a little please :O)

I left WoW with over 200 days played and moved from a G4 to a Mac Pro with a 1900 during that time. I also ended up having my x1900 card replaced by Apple. According to many sources there is now a Rev2 card being shipped. I can't confirm it but I can confirm that fewer people seem to be having problems, and if you use SMC FanControl while playing WoW it will keep things cool and you'll be assured of no over heating issues. Personally I would not be concerned if I used SMC Fan Control, and in fact after getting the new card and beginning to use SMC Fan Control I had no further issues of any kind. The issue was with overheating. WoW runs just fine in OSX using the x1900 card. FPS over 100 is not uncommon and even in the Suppression room in BWL (still the most intense graphic area I can recall...nothing like it in Kara or anywhere else I've seen in the new content) I'd get 40-80fps. It's no SLI super high end, but very, very playable with a Mac Pro.

My friend gave me a $25 iTunes gift card for Christmas, so I switched to the US store and spend most of it with 11¢ remaining. *Now I want to switch back to my original store, but I can't. iTunes keeps saying "You have a store credit balance; you must spend your balance before you can change stores.*

You might just have to contact Apple and ask them to remove it (losing it). Usually people clear a balance by buying one song and having the exact remainder charged  to their credit card, but if you don't have a US credit card you cannot do that.
