Suitable Desk for 27" iMac?

Hello,
Can anyone suggest suitable desk (home use) for 27" iMac? I'm looking for a desk to put iMac, iPad and Time Capsule. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Hi,

According to my own experience 24 inches for depth is on the edge. 30 inches (as the professional desk's have) may be better as you need space for the forearms, mouse handling or the trackpad. Height adjustable may also be a benefit.
A tray for the keyboard looks nice and tidy but most likely you will have placed the keyboard on the desk for convenience.
If the keyboard is placed in the tray and you're writing the forearms are always in mid air and the open drawer is between your belly and your work.
Not a suggestion but an example for a good computer desk is this one --> https://www.schooloutfitters.com/catalog/product_info/pfam_id/PFAM9172/products_ id/PRO22878?sc_cid=nextag.com_SPT-38902ADJ

  • Good Computer Desk for 24" iMac?

After being a Windows user since version 3.0 (Bill Gates will burn in **** for that one) I just got a 24" iMac. Since my hobby is photography and imaging programs are resource intensive, I initially priced out a Dell Precision with Dell's 24" monitor to use with Vista. As much out of idleness as anything else, I wandered into an Apple store a played around with the 24" iMac. I was more than a little surprised to find out I could have the sleekly designed iMac with a stable UNIX based OS for about $100 less than the Dell. So far I am very satisfied with the iMac. The lack of overhead created by virus and spyware programs makes even web browsing much faster than on a Windows machine.
My huge L shaped computer desk is much bigger than I need for the iMac, plus it has gotten a bit beat up looking over the years. I wonder if anyone has found a computer desk that really works well with the 24" iMac? I don't need Ethan Allen quality furniture; a good laminate finish will be fine. I need ready access to a letter size Epson printer and an Epson PictureMate. I also have a phone, DSL modem and wireless router. A couple of drawers built into the desk would be a nice feature.
It's brutally cold here in Central Illinois, so before I head out shopping I thought I'd ask for some recommendations here. I have access to most national retailers, with the exception of Ikea and Costco, though both of them have stores only a couple of hours away in the Chicago 'burbs.
    Thanks for any advice.

    24" iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

Hi, I have used glass topped desks, I don't think apart from possibly getting broke by accident they are good at absorbing vibrations from keyboard or maybe even the Mac itself..I invested in a nice oak table, centre iMac -> Right, Printer -> Left, 2 x External HD's..plus lots of space for card readers/documents/office & cell phones etc etc etc... I have a small filing cabinet under the desk..works for me.
    Don't forget a ""comfortable chair"" ------- happy key tapping...L

  • Hi guys, could some one point md in a direction of a good website as I'm wanting to buy a stylish desk for my iMac 27" as they are heavy! Regards

Are there any website out there that deal with stylish slim desks for 27" iMac

More than anything, you need something with reduced shipping costs, so a local vendor may work to your advantage. Going to a website will give you lots of options, but the shipping costs for desks can be prohibitive. Something like an Office Depot or OfficeMax or Staples might be useful. Or Amazon; they have a huge selection of desks at reduced prices. http://www.amazon.com/Computer-Desks-Hutches/b?ie=UTF8&node=1069106

  • Apple physically replaced the HD on my Imac.  I backed up everything on a Seagate Go Flex Desk for Mac external drive for Mac.  I went through the motions to restore my Iphoto Library back to my computer. Can't find them!!!!!

Apple replaced my hard drive on my Imac.  I'm lucky I backed up everything on a Seagate Go Flex Desk for Mac external drive via Time Machine .  I followed directions in order to restore my iphoto library , but I can't seem to find it on my computer.  Are the files locked?

No reason to assume they are locked. The library will be restored to the location it was backed up from, unless you specified somewhere else. Have you looked in your Pictures Folder?

I took away my backup disk with me so just took it from there excellent. I am back home at present working on my imac. When I go to use my macbook air on these projects (when away on boat) is it easiest to simply copy the Project and Events folders in total from my imac onto the other machine and do the same upon my return in reverse? I don't use icloud

  • Setup for an iMac G5, a MacBook Pro, and an AirPort Extreme

Any experience I've had with computers was in the early 80s, yes, it is very sad.
I purchased a G5, the laptop, and the AirPort and have been able to set everything up and get everything going. Just amazing.
I've only run into one issue.
I have access to the Internet via a cable modem. My G5 sits on my desk. I would like to continue to use wire with it. I would like to be able to use my laptop in wireless mode.
At present, if I want to switch between machines, I have to unplug the cable from the back of my computer, move it to the AirPort, power down the cable modem box, power it back up, power up the AirPort. Not knowing what I'm doing, it was the only way I could think of to accomplish my goal. It works, but it is a pain.
What can I do so that I have the ability to have the G5 wired and the laptop wireless.
    Thanks,
    Sheila
P.S. Please type s-l-o-w-l-y and remember I'm new to all of this. : )

What can I do so that I have the ability to have the G5 wired and the laptop wireless.
Looks like you already have all the necessary components to do this. The following would be the suggested network configuration with the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn):
Cable modem > (Ethernet cable) > [WAN port] AEBSn [LAN port] > (Ethernet cable) > [Ethernet port] iMac G5, AND AEBSn > (wireless) > [built-in AirPort Extreme] MacBook Pro
In this configuration, you should be able to access the Internet both via wire for the iMac and wirelessly with the MacBook Pro.
The following would be the basic set up steps, using the AirPort Utility (in Manual mode), for a cable modem connection...
AirPort Extreme Base Station Setup (AEBSn) w/Cable Modem
    Modem/Router Power ReCycling
    - Power-off the Cable modem, AEBSn, & computer(s). (Wait at least 30 minutes. If possible, leave the modem off overnight.)
    - Power-on the Cable modem; Wait at least 30 minutes.
    - Power-on the AEBSn; Wait at least 5 minutes.
    - Power-on the computer(s)
Perform a "hard" reset of the AEBSn. (optional)
    - (ref: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=107451)
    Setup the AEBSn
Temporarily connect your computer directly (using an Ethernet cable) to one of the LAN ports of the AEBSn, and then, using the AirPort Utility in Manual Mode, check these settings:
    AirPort - Base Station
    - Base Station Name: <whatever you wish or use the default>

  • Best external speakers for my iMac

I am looking at the Bose Companion 3 and Companion 5 speakers for my iMac. If I understand correctly, the difference is the 5 does surround sound and is great for movies. I want great speakers for audio.

    Hi Bryan
I think it depends on where your iMac is setup!
If your iMac is setup in your den or family room and you allready have a nice stereo system just pickup a mini headphone to RCA adapter and RCA cables and hook it up. If you do not have a decent stereo then yes the Bose or an upper end 5.1 system is the way to go.

If your iMac is setup in a small office, any of the 2.1 systems would sound real nice for a-lot less cash. I have a Creative Inspire 2.1 system in my office, the satellite speakers are in the corners of the room (instead of blaring in my face) and the Sub under my desk. The setup sounds great, it has good R & L channel separation and the sub rumbles/thumps the floor real nice.

  • I'm looking for software for my iMac to use to copy old VHS movies onto DVD and old records (digital turn table) in CDs.  Recommendations please?

I'm looking for software for my iMAC to use to copy old VHS movies from a VCR into DVDs and records from my digital turn table into CDs.  Any recommendations?

For the VHS movies, try googling Elgato - they make a number of USB devices that are supposed to be able to do this, but check what formatting options they offer : you will want a device that converts directly into .MOV files (to play in QuickTime), or into H.264 for iTunes / iPods, etc.
As for the vinyl records - first you need a device that will convert the analogue output (phono) into a digital form and will connect via FireWire or USB. The Griffin iMic is one such USB device (if still available?). From there you can use the free Audacity download to read in the signal and convert to a suitable format, e.g. MP3. (You will need to use SysPrefs / Sound to switch to an external audio device, instead of your Mac's built-in mic.)
(Wait - you said "digital turntable" - software already on your Mac? How do you use a virtual turntable to play vinyl?? Unless what you really mean is an analogue turntable that has a CD writer in it, or a USB connection to connect the turntable's DAC output to a computer?? In which case, either use your turntable to burn  CDs, or connect via USB and the free Audacity software to convert the signal to music tracks and output as MP3.

  • 3rd party Vesa for 2013 iMac 27'' ?

      hi guys
was thinking about keeping my late 2009 27'' iMac i7 a while longer BUT a few, unexpected "extra pennies" came tumbling in &.....here i am thinking about it ! ;-)
however i'm NOT sold on the idea of getting it either with a desk stand OR a OEM fitted Vesa mount ! even if mine's mounted on an Ergotron wall arm...
i've always needed/managed to sell my used iMacs for a reasonable sum, reasonable enough for the buyer to make it worth their while, reasonable enough for me so i DON'T have to fork out the entire price of the new machine's
it DOES help & so far the friends who bought my iMacs ARE very happy with them - what i call a good deal all around...
under this new ''either/or'' stand policy my gut feeling is that.....when time comes to re-sell it & upgrade to something else, users who actually wall/desk mount their iMacs being A LOT fewer than those who don't, means i'll be kindda stuck with an unsold machine for a LOOONG time !! or one i'll HAVE to sell for a lot less to a MUCH smaller crowd of potential buyers ? :-b
i have googled up the availability of 3rd party Vesa mounts availability up but besides the fanfarre of ''Vesa mounts FINALLY available at '' spread all over the web ( as if something unheard of.. ) i couldn't really find anything
so my question is : has anyone seen, heard of, bought, is making one such Vesa mount for the 2013 iMac 27'' ? i'd rather pay an  Service Center to mount it AND keep it's desk stand to resell it later, you know ?
      much obliged
      Nuno

I have the same dilemma, though I usually sell my old computers on ebay rather than to friends. It appears there is no solution at this time that will allow us to have our cake and eat it.
I am opting to buy the iMac with the Vesa mount and I figure that while there are few buyers on eBay for an iMac with a Vesa mount, there are virtually no sellers.
When it comes time to sell my iMac, I will be the only one selling a machine like mine on ebay. So anyone who wants one will be happy to pay what it's worth - which is exactly what one with a stand is worth. That's my gamble.
There is also a chance that a 3rd party Vesa mounted stand will be available by the time I sell the computer, and I could offer the computer with either option.
At this point my only other choice is to buy an iMac with a stand, which is unacceptable - or wait, which is also unacceptable.
I guess we'll see in  a few years whether the gamble was worth it.
This thread has inspired me to send Ergotron an email requesting that they consider making an elegant Vesa mounted iMac stand.
Message was edited by: Joe Sarasota to add ergotron's email address

  • Can a LCD screen for a iMac G5 can be replace?

Can a LCD screen for a iMac G5 can be replace?

Thanks for the reply.  Soon after I posted, I found that solution.  However, the Airplay feature is not on my IMac.
I am very disappointed with the Sales and Service at the local Mac Store.  I was very clear about how I intended to use my network of computers and devices when I purchased the package.  It took two visits to the Support desk for someone to provide me with the Apple TV component.  And now I find that I don't have the Airplay feature on my IMac.

  • I need to buy an External Portable HD 500GB for my iMac OSX 10.4.11 (PowerPc 2004). Can anybody please tell me a few Names/Products that are compatible? Please if you can, just tell me some product name, instead what generical characteristics it needs :s

    Hello
I have been reading forums and forums and after days of research l gave up.
Unfortunately it seems that nobody has provided a name of a brand yet.
Although the effort is very admirable, l am still at the point of finding myself back at square one, with an unanswered question:
Which portable external HD 500GB should l purchase for my iMac 10.4.11 (Power PC 2004)?
I know there are many different ones, but l hope at least somebody can suggest one.
A clear Name of a Product that matches the compatibility.
I am not an expert of computer and so all the theoretical explanations of technical characteristics mean next to nothing to me :(
I hope that someone kind enough to halo me out with this will be able to let me know.
My most greatefull thank you to you all in advance :)

  • Service Desk for VAR - RFC Connections to customers

    Hi all,
I'm trying to implement Service Desk for a VAR provider, however, I didn't found until now how to connect customer systems to Solution Manager in the VAR provider site.
I was able to create systems in SMSY automatically, as the Business partners and OSS users, but in SMSY the system has no Client (000,100,800) assigned and could not get it as no read RFC for system is maintained. Should this RFC be created using SAPSERV connection via marketplace (automatically or not) or using a simple direct SAPRouter connection to customer? anyone know how can I proceed or know some online documentation available?
Manually maintain this connections could be very anoing as we have a lot of customers and systems.
Thanks in advance for you help.
    Best Regards
    Pedro Rodrigues

    Hi Pedro,
normaly you don't need those RFCs as a VAR, that's right. With the new note 1320545 you also get product versions updated from OSS into SMSY. However if you require all patch levels of your customers in SMSY to do MOPZ you need RFC or SLD connection. You can generate RFCs connections from the SMSY system client screen for ABAP instances. There is a button "Router information" where you can maintain your and your customer's SAProuter IP adresses. These will be included in the routstrings of the generated destinations. Of course this must be done manually for each customer system because SAP suport Portal doesn't know your customers passwords and routers.

  • Service desk for non-sap (please - any inputs are welcome)

    hi all,,
I know how to setup service desk for SAP use. Can some one provide me some tips on using solution manager - service desk for non-sap as well? eg: the company wants to use service desk for normal activities as well, as laptop not working, server down, other system issues etc.
The questions I have are -
    1) Any specific structure to be created for the non-sap? The way we use in SAP specific environment is to use "SAP Components" while creating tickets. How can we create tickets for non-sap components? What will be the "responsibility" selection?
    2) How about the Ibase? For SAP, the ibase already have the data from SMSY. How can I get data for non-sap systems? Anything is SAP to keep the Asset management data (like entries of laptops, servers etc)
Thanks for all the suggestions !!

    Hi
You need to go for service desk XT which is the extension of service desk to manage non sap or IT incidents
    Check below link
    https://websmp110.sap-ag.de/_solutionmanager
Heterogeous system environments are a challenge for IT-service management in any company. The associated complex structures and varying forms of media often make it difficult to realize efficient service processes. With SAP Solution Manager Service Desk - Extended Usage (Service Desk XT), SAP offers a centralized support tool as a single point of access - for service requests and problem tickets related to SAP and non-SAP software.
The Single Point of Access for Support
SAP Solution Manager, which is a standard part of every SAP solution and therefore can be used by all SAP customers, supports users in SAP relevant service requests. The standard function of the service desk is restricted to service requests.
With Service Desk XT, SAP provides an extended support tool, which can be also used for general service requests, for example regarding IT or telecommunication equipment.
This priced add-on does not require additional interfaces to third-party products - the same service requests are used for SAP and non-SAP applications. This simplification is a benefit for your employees.
This solution has been created with IT service providers in mind, especially those which work within a company and currently do not have an IT-service desk application in place or would like to replace an existing system.
