Suitable distro with Pavilion 15 p050su

Hello, as the title said I need suitable distro with Pavilion 15 p050su. I tried Ubuntu 14.04 but I have problem with my wireless card. I thought to try with OpenSUSE but decided first to ask here. I think that will be good to mention that I have problem with my wireless card driver(Broadcom N43142), my wireless range is always at the minimum even when I'm infront of the router, the problem isn't in the router bucause there are other machines connected to it.

Hi @Combat_Engineer,
Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that you are having problems with the wireless adapter on your notebook. What  operating system is currently installed? You mentioned Ubuntu 14.04. Is that still your current OS?
The following may be helpful for diagnosing the problem although it is more for windows.

  • Problem With Pavilion DV6 3052nr Recovery Manager!!!!!!!!

Just help me,pleaseeeeeeee

    Hi:
    You may have to purchase a set of HP recovery disks or if you can read all 25 characters of the W7 product key on the bottom of your notebook (DON'T POST IT), you can do this...
    If you can read the 25 character Microsoft windows 7 product key, you can download plain Windows 7 ISO files to burn to a DVD for the version of windows that came installed on your PC, and that is listed on the Microsoft COA sticker on your PC's case.
    Burn the ISO using the Burn ISO option on your DVD burning program and burn at the slowest possible speed your program will allow. This will create a bootable DVD.
    Or use the Windows 7 USB/DVD installation tool to compile the ISO file you download from Digital River. Link and instructions below. You need a 4 GB flash drive to use the USB method of compilation.
    http://www.microsoftstore.com/store/msstore/html/pbPage.Help_Win7_usbdvd_dwnTool
    Use the 25 character product key on the PC to activate the installation.
    The key will activate either a 32 or 64 bit installation.
    Then go to the PC's support and driver page to install the drivers you need.
    Link to the W7 ISO file downloads is below.

  • HP Power supply PPP012H-S / 384020-002 compatibility with Pavilion DV5000 (DV5196EA) notebook?

    I have a Pavilion DV5000 (specifically, DV5196EA) notebook where I need to replace its original power supply.
    I also have an HP power supply from some other notebook (I don't recall what kind) which shows the same output specifications (19V, slightly higher wattage than the original), but it has the wrong physical plug on the end.
    The original power supply has a tip similar to this:
    The other power supply that I have, from some other notebook, has a larger tip which looks like this:
    (Apparent sizes are incorrect in the in-line image uploads above -- the actual tip on the PPP012H-S power supply is about twice as wide as the tip on the original power supply of my DV5000 series notebook).
    I tested both power supplies using a multi-meter, and confirmed that the power output of both is 19VDC.
    I clipped off the current large barrel end from the PPP012H-S power supply and stripped the wires, intending to solder on a common replacement tip which matches that of the original power supply, but I found a surprise when I stripped the wires:
    There are three conductors inside the sheath of the PPP012H-S power supply. An outer heavy braided shell just inside the outermost rubber-plastic insulating coating, inside which is another smaller gauge rubber-plastic insulating coating, with innermost two more normal insulated stranded wires - one in white and the other in blue.
    I had assumed that the outer braided shell was either ground or EM shielding, but in fact it's a conductor. Using the multi-meter I found a 19VDC differential between that outer braided shell and EITHER the inner white or the inner blue wire.
    And one more weird thing. Switching the multi-meter now to resistance mode, I had expected (given the voltage detection above) that the large thin barrel of the PPP012H-S adapter's tip would share one electric potential both outside and inside the barrel, with the very find centre pin being the other pole ... but no.  There are apparently three conductive surfaces; the outside of the barrel, the inside of the barrel, and the centre pin, none of which are connected to each other.
    Not wanting to guess that the power supply might like the idea of shorting the white and blue leads together, and observing (I think?!) that the tip of the original power supply has only two conductive surfaces, and therefore guessing that even if the PPP012H-S' intended notebook might care about whether it was being fed from white or blue the DV5000 would not care, I insulated off the white lead and soldered the outer braided shell and the blue lead to the new tip. Multi-meter again confirms a steady 19VDC in the correct polarity.
    But when plugged in to the DV5196EA notebook, the notebook does not detect any power being supplied.
    Crap.
    Is there some kind of electronics smarts in the PPP012H-S power supply which makes it detect and refuse to supply power to the DV5196EA notebook? Or some not-quite-so-smarts but which still really wanted me to use the white lead instead of the blue lead? .. or is even the simpler tip on the original adapter (which I believe has only two conductive surfaces) actually a little less simple than I think and it does have three surfaces and I do need to attach all three of the conductors from the PPP012H-S to (Something, where?) on the replacement tip?
    Yes, a bit of work to go through to avoid spending $50 on a new power supply, but I've got the parts and I thought I had the smarts and I enjoy the challenge (up to a point!)
    Thanks for your help!

    can anyone tell me the pinout of a ppp012h-s power supply please?

  • Keyboard shipped with Pavilion non-standard number keypad

    Hello, I advised a friend to buy an HP Pavilion 550 desktop for use at her office. She is a bookkeeper and relies heavily on the number pad on the right side of the keyboard. The keyboard that shipped has a non-standard numeric keypad where the "0" key has a right facing arrow instead of the "0" key. Financial people cannot function with this type of keyboard. I had never seen a keyboard like this before and cannot imaging why HP shipped something that is not standard. I asked her to contact HP support, since there must have been a mistake. HP support offered to SELL her a new keyboard, but would not replace the keyboard shipped with the PC. The PC is brand new and just came out of the box! This is an embarrassing display of our support for our products.  Please help.

    i suppose you could do that - but that seems like a royal pain, and certainly not the graceful experience that apple is known for.
    Alternatively - i have found you can just type CHA CHA in text with the keyboard and it translates it into numbers accordingly.
    Still - a jarring experience, i prefer the other way. Oh well.

  • No suitable driver with com.mysql.jdbc.Driver

    Ok. here's the issue. I have a windows box. (first problem) but let's pretend that it's ok. :) I installed Tomcat 4.1 installed J2SDK1.4.0

    Nope, it's not a MySQL issue.
    I'd recommend NOT putting the JDBC JAR file (or any others, except Sun-sanctioned extensions) in JAVA_HOME/jre/lib/ext.
    JDBC JARs belong in TOMCAT_HOME/common/lib or in the WEB-INF/lib directory for your particular app. If you put them in the former, all apps running under Tomcat can have access to them. If you put them in the latter, only your app can see them.
    After you've done that, do some reading about JNDI data sources under Tomcat:
    http://jakarta.apache.org/tomcat/tomcat-4.1-doc/jndi-datasource-examples-howto.html
    That way you can get that connection code out of your JSPs and into the web.xml and <Context>, where it belongs. You'll be able to change data sources without rewriting your pages.

  • Motherboard/card reader/overheating problem with pavilion dv2000 series

    I bought an HP dv2845se notebook in April of 2008.  Soon after purchasing I noticed that the laptop would get extremely hot, sometimes to the point that it would burn my legs if I kept it on my lap too long.  After doing some research, I noticed that on some HP laptops the nVidia GPU could be defective and that HP recalled many of its notebooks' batteries.  However, my computer was not included in the recall nor the class action lawsuit against nVidia.  Almost since purchasing this computer, I cannot watch videos or play graphic-intensive video games due to the computer getting so hot that the video/game would become unbearably choppy.  In August of 2009, 4 months after my warranty was up due to the fact that I was not included in any extended warranty offered by HP, my hard drive stopped working.  Luckily I had purchased a service plan through Best Buy and they informed me that my laptop had gotten so hot that it damaged the hard drive beyond repair.  They replaced it but I lost all of my music and important documents for school.  Angry, I tried contacting HP support regarding the overheating issue and multiple people told me that since my warranty was up I would have to pay if I wanted anything repaired or replaced.  Fast forward to a few days ago.  My card reader and firewire port only work every few times I turn on my computer.  They show up as three Base System Devices and an IEEE 1394 Controller when not working and trying to update drivers does not work.  I have tried everything, including taking out my battery and holding down the power button.  After hours of research I have discovered that my motherboard is probably failing because the card reader still lights up when a card is inserted.  Is anybody else having these problems?  Am I correct in my diagnosis?  I would like to bring my computer back to Best Buy before my service plan is up to see if they could replace my motherboard.

    If you still have warranty from best buy go use it. Compaint about the card reader and IEEE port. Fixing that items would be a complete motherboard replacement. dv2700 series with Nvidia GPU has been known as a "warm" notebook. I purchase 3 years warranty but till now still working fine with normal usage, barely not playing any games in it.

  • Banding in gradients with Pavilion 22xi

    I have been using a new Pavilion 22xi for a couple of weeks, and color settings remain problematic after much trial and error. My primary concern at this point is the significant banding in gradients. It's difficult for me to imagine that this would be considered expected performance, but thus far I have not been able to significantly reduce it.
    My display is connected via HDMI cable to a Mac Mini running OS X 10.9.1. I have explored a variety of adjustments to both native display controls and the OS X color profile. So far, banding in gradients continues. I welcome any advice as to what I might do; if there are other details I can provide, just let me know.
    Thanks.

    Looking at your PDF it's difficult to tell exactly what's happening. I've had banding problems, however, in similar situations passing Illustrator files through Photoshop to be converted to high-resolution JPEGs for a very specific printer. Essentially, the file looks fine in Illustrator and fine in Photoshop until one significantly raises the white levels. The banding which then appears is very similar to the banding which appears upon printing. Can you see the errors in your file before they're printed? Or, only after printing?
    Here's a couple thoughts... save Illustrator file as hi-res PDF. Use CS4 High-Quality Print presets. Open in Photoshop, rasterize at 300dpi in PS's opening dialog box. Flatten and save as TIFF, etc. for printing. May solve the problem.
    Another setting to experiment with which may do nothing (and may cause the sky to fall) is to check your presets for Color Settings. Try setting Conversion Options > Intent > to Perceptual. This may make some users howl as Relative Colorimetric is the default setting for many users. However, it's been said to me that Perceptual is the correct setting to avoid banding in images with large gradients.
    For more information on the differences between the two, check out: http://www.cambridgeincolour.com/tutorials/color-space-conversion.htm
    Regarding the lines around placed images, I haven't dealt with that one. You may want to open the images in Photoshop and make sure there isn't some colored trim left over from the cropping process. Provided that isn't the case, try re-placing them before saving to PDF and moving to Photoshop.
    Hope this helps.
    Cheers!

  • No suitable driver with SQL Server Driver

    Hi,
    i'm making a jsp page that it use a JDBC Connection to a SQL Server with SQL Server 2000 Driver for JDBC.
    I put in JDeveloper Project Settings, Configurations\Development\Libraries, the reference to msbase.jar, msutil.jar and mssqlserver.jar. Alse i put the reference to Oracle JDBC libraries.
    The code in jsp page to reference the driver, obtain the DataSource and get the connection is the following:
    java.sql.DriverManager.registerDriver(new com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver());
    javax.naming.Context ic = new javax.naming.InitialContext();
    javax.sql.DataSource ds = (javax.sql.DataSource) ic.lookup("jdbc/SQLServerDS");
    java.sql.Connection con = ds.getConnection();
    I defined the DataSource in data-sources.xml, wich look like:
    <data-source class="com.evermind.sql.DriverManagerDataSource" location="jdbc/SQLServerCoreDS" password="<pass>" username="<user>" url="jdbc:microsoft:sqlserver://<server>:1433" xa-location="jdbc/xa/SQLServerXADS" inactivity-timeout="30" connection-driver="com.microsoft.jdbc.sqlserver.SQLServerDriver" name="SQLServerDS" ejb-location="jdbc/SQLServerDS">
    <property name="DatabaseName" value="Northwind"/>
    <property name="SelectMethod" value="direct"/>
    </data-source>
    This compile ok, but when i run the page appears the following error (SQLException):
    No suitable driver
    After looking so much, i don't find the cause of the problem.
    Can anyone helpme?
    Thanks
    Javier S.

    Hi Javier,
    Although I don't work with JDeveloper, as far as I know, for OC4J, I believe you need to put the relevant JAR files in the "j2ee/home/lib" subdirectory of the OC4J installation. Unfortunately, since I don't work with JDeveloper, I can't tell you where that would be -- sorry :-(
    I suggest that you try asking also in the JDeveloper forum (in case you haven't already :-)
    Hope this helps you.
    Good Luck,
    Avi.

  • Suitable Distro / DE for newbie on old pc

    Someone i know has acquired an old compaq desktop, an Evo D310 .
    It has a celeron 1700 Mhz, 256 MiB Ram and 20 GB HDD ( and a very old non-functional windows xp install).
    After checking what he wants to do with the system, we decided a linux installation is the best choice.
    Given the low specs, Gnome and KDE are to heavy.
    Automounting and playing music files are 2 things this user needs, and this will be his first linux experience.
    For DE i lean towards XFCE, but the distro choice is harder.
    The *buntu, Fedora and Suse distros have far to much bloat .
    Linux mint XFCE looks good, does anyone have experience with it ?

    I heard Mint XFCE is rather harsh on resources, as well. I would promote Crunchbang, either with XFCE or Openbox:
    www.crunchbanglinux.org
    It was my distro before switching to Arch. It's stable, fast, lightweight and I definitely recommend it!
    EDIT: Also, the community is a big plus. It's very friendly, even for the people who just started with Linux - so your friend shouldn't feel 'not welcome'
    En er zijn daar een aantal Nederlanders die ongetwijfeld willen helpen!

  • Microphone issue with pavilion dv7

    I got a Pavilion dv7 for Xmas (don't ask me which model, as I can't find it using any of HP's help info!!!). I used a microphone with it, no problems. Recorded great, everything went smooth as pie. After the system auto-updated (it's the only possible cause i can find, as no other changes were made), now my external mic will not work worth poop. The recording levels are extremely low, tons of noise. I know it's not the mic, as it works OK on other machines. I can find no documentation to help me work with the Beats Audio system. Can anyone please help before I throw the computer or myself out a window!!!!!

    I bought this HP Pavilioh dv7 w/Windows 7 Pro on it around November 30, 2012.  I never bothered trying to do anything with the microphone until this month.  I find that if there is no attached mic it will not record at all, although after spending 5 hours on support with HP they could not come up with a solution.  If I attach an external mic it will barely record anything.  I haven't been able to find any way to adjust mic settings and am at a loss.  Earlier in this string it was suggested to go to device manager and revert to the previous driver.  However, when I go there there is no previous driver to revert to.  An external microphone will record a little if I yell in to it.  I don't want this to be my first experience with HP, that a simple device fails and the whole unit will have to be shipped in for hardware replacement.  Any information you can advise I will be glad to try.  I am a fairly skilled user, therefore I am likely to be able to execute whatever is needed.  Bill Harpe.

  • WD 320Gb HD with Pavilion DV4

    The hard drive in my Pavilion DV4 has gone bad.  The original HD was 250 Gb  I purchased a Western Digital Scorpio Blue 320 Gb to replace it.  The computer will not recognize the new hard drive.  Using the restore disks just gives an "error 100a", and the startup diagnostic doesn't find the hard drive.  Is there a compatability problem with this drive?

    Do you have a Windows installation CD? I would connect the drive to another PC to verify it is working.
    If possible, I would partition and format it and then, back on the Pavilion, try again to boot from the Windows CD and see if the drive will be shown as an installation destination. If you suspect that the drive is not working properly, do not hesitate to contact the reseller and get a replacement.
