Suitcase 6 typekit auto activation

Does suitcase 6 auto activate fonts in type kit if you don't already have them active, or do you still need to go to website and activate the font first?
Thanks

  • InDesign CS5 Crashes on PDF Export if Suitcase Fusion 3 Auto Activation is on

I just started having a problem after upgrading  from SF2 to 3 and using InDesign CS5. My exports to PDF were all  crashing as soon as the PDF creation background process started. I tried  all kinds of tests and troubleshooting to figure out what was causing  the problem as it was sudden and erratic.
Then I noticed that all the documents crashing were using fonts I  had activated with SF 3, so I created a new document with a simple  system font and it exported OK. Then a font installed activated  permanently via SF and still would crash.
I closed SF and reopen InDesign with a document using the SF  permanently activated fonts, still would crash. It wasn't until I turned  off SF3 Auto Activation in Preferences that the crashing ceased. I can  now have SF3 open, activate fonts and see them in InDesign and export  successfully without crash as long as that preference is unchecked.
This should be fixed in the next updated I hope as I like the auto activation feature.
Just posted as well on Extensis Forums:
    http://forums.extensis.com/jforum/posts/list/3533.page

I have also had a crash on export problem recently. I went through the suggestions in this thread and searched others.
Then I stepped through a few things in my INDD.
Deleted the suspect page. Export worked.
Brought the page back. Export crashed.
Looked at all the text on the page. I had 4 boxes with bulleted text.
I converted the bullets to text and the export went ahead with no problem.
I turned the bulleted list back into a real bulleted list and the export crashed again.
    Go figure.

  • CS3 Indd Auto Activation not working

I am using CS3 Indd 5.04 and can't seem to get the fonts to load automatically. Using suitcase 11.5.01. I have activation on in suitcase program. Do I not have something set correctly in InDesign?

I would guess that you're using 11.0.5.1 (not 11.5.0.1 )? At any rate, Suitcase's auto-activation has been problematic for quite a while. I've found it works on some computers and doesn't work on others running the same operating system version and other software. The only thing I can recommend is, make sure that you actually have the plug-in activated in InDesign (I seem to remember it's the menu item InDesign > Preferences > Suitcase).

  • Why are fonts not needed being auto-activated?

I've got a problem which is driving me mad and in circles and I don't know where to ask/what to do. Let me explain.
I've just updated to Tiger 10.4.8 (via 10.4.6 fresh install). All seems to be going well. One day later I install CS2 (previously had CS). Again, all seems OK. But today I've had a couple of type issues. Firstly, type isn't displaying on some web sites or help documents. Getting the classic 'Russian' looking language. By the way, helvetica.dfont is still in System/library/fonts, along with AppleGothi.dfont, Courier dfont, Geneva dfont, LastResort dfont, LucidaGrande.dfont, Monaco.dfont.
Next problem: I use FontAgent Pro. Now, whenever I open Safari or any CS2 app. (just the app, not an actual document) a bunch of fonts are auto activated which I don't want to be activated, and as far as I know don't need to be activated. They are Devangari MT, Geeza Pro, Gujarati MT, Gurmukhi MT, Hirangino Kaku Gothic Pro, LiHei Pro, STHeiti, Times, and Photoshop also auto activates Osaka. I like to keep my activated fonts to the ones I'm using, so it's annoying me.
Can anyone throw any light on this? I've posted in the Adobe forum (as not really sure if it's a mac thing or an adobe thing) but had no answers. Pulling my hair out! Thanks

no this doesn't work at all.
I am sorry should have said i was using thunderbird because i could not get the mail on the mac set up for my email.
    Any other ideas

    Hi Kathydate,
It doesn't matter what manager a person may be using. If any of the Fonts folders have something in them, they will be active. Check these folders for the fonts.
    /System/Library/Fonts/
    /Library/Fonts/
~/Library/Fonts/ (the tilde means your home account)
The Adobe apps have their own folder at:
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Fonts/
If there are any fonts in that folder you want to remove, do not remove the folder "Reqrd" or any of the items in it. The Adobe apps need those fonts to operate.
For more details on font locations and which you can remove, see my article, Font Management in Mac OS X Tiger and Panther.

  • Opening document triggers auto-activation of fonts that aren't IN document

I'm working on a document (annual report) that was based on a previous year's annual report. In the process I changed all the styles I defined to use a new font family. However, whenever I open the document I get auto-activation notices (Mac, Font Agent Pro) that the old font is opening - all 16 or 17 variations of it.
Where is this font, that it's causing auto activation?
It doesn't show up under Find Font.
    - Bob

Another possibility is that there are frames in the document somewhere being USED as empty graphics frames, but which are in fact TEXT frames, with nothing in them but the "end of story" special character, with a rogue paragraph style applied, which specifies one of those fonts.
If you find such a frame, change its content to "graphic" via Object --> Content --> Graphic. That might do it.

  • Font Auto-Activation Not Working After First Use

Anyone else seeing this problem, or have a fix? Font auto-activation stops working after the first use. Here's what happens: Open a file that contains a font that is installed, but is disabled in Font Book. The dialog box "Application wants to use the font XXX". Click on Allow. The font will be available, as you expect. Now quit the application. Open the file again - you won't get the dialog box asking permission to use the font, and the font is not available. This happens in Pages 3.0.1 and TextEdit 1.5. It happens for each individual font - in other words, continuing my description, if you now open a second file that has another font that is disabled in Font Book, you'll be asked permission to use it. But once you've allowed a particular font to be used, you won't be asked permission again.

Make a backup.  Restore the device as new.  Test the issue again.  If it persists, your device needs service.  If the issue disappears, restore your backup.  If it then reappears, then there is some form of corrupt data on the device from the backup.  You'll have to restore that data one portion at a time to determine what is causing it, or set up the device as new.

  • Pro's and Con's for Auto activation of ID Objects

    Hi
Can anyone provide me the Pro's and Con's of having Auto activation enabled for ID Objects.
    Regards
    Osman Abdul Aziz Jabri

    Hi Osman,
The Pros of Auto activation is all objects which do not need any manual configuration will activated. But the problem is in one transport (and in one tpz) you might have some object which needs manual configuration before activation and in this case the auto activation is failed.
So i would suggest not to use auto activation feature for ID. Please refer the below SAP Note

  • Temporary disable Font auto-activation(UTC)

Is there a way via javascript to temporarily disable and then reenable the Extensis UTC Font auto-activation for Indesign files?
I have a script that loops through and opens a file, edits it, exports it and then reverts and does it again for x number of pages. The script used to work fine when manually enabling and disabling fonts but not we have had a few font issues in the PDFs and we're thinking it has to to with the auto-activation interrupting the script or something like that.
Since the file is opened manually the first time that would allow the auto activation to occur once. The script would then run and disable it, do all the edits. exports. and reverts and then when its done enable auto-activation again.
Let me know if you have any ideas or if you happen to already know the about the issue.
    Thank you

    Hi,
Everything is normal, it's the result of the command
    To disable auto activating font
    autoactivation -d
Result -->  auto activation globally changed to AutoActivationDisabled
    To enable auto activating font
    atsutil autoactivation -e
Result --> auto activation globally changed to AutoActivationEnabled

  • Font Book Auto-Activation for Adobe CS3?

Font Book's Auto-Activation does not work for me in my Creative Suite 3 applications. I have read articles where people didn't have a problem with it, (i.e. http://www.macworld.com/weblogs/creative/2007/10/leopard-creative-suite-3/index. php?lsrc=mwrss ) so I assume it works somehow. All of my programs are updated.
    Any ideas?

In that article, the author says that fonts "activate quickly" in CS3 when he uses Font Book; I think he's referring to the fact that when he activates a font in Font Book, CS3 menus are updated almost instantly. This has nothing to do with auto-activation - which isn't working with InDesign CS3 at all.
On the other hand, I find it works in almost all my other programs - Word, TextEdit, whatever... (hmm, I think not Stickies - as if it matters - but I don't recall)

  • InDesign CS5 crashing on launch due to font auto-activator issue

I was having a problem where all the jobs I had been collecting would no longer open in InDesign CS5 without crashing on startup. Just found out today it has to do with the new feature in CS5 that reads fonts from your "Document Fonts" folder. Once I renamed the folder the files started opening up just fine again. Is there a way to disable that feature in InDesign, or has anyone else found another workaround that doesn't involve renaming the folder on every job I collect?
I'm sure it's a known issue by now, but I didn't see anything come up when I did a search.

Same problem here. Whenever I want to open a packaged InDesign document which includes a Document Fonts folder containing some fonts which are identical to my system fonts (10.7.3 in my case) InDesign hangs. The best way to avoid these problems is to clean all system font folders and start managing fonts yourself. Check what fonts are needed for a certain document, avoid using fonts installed by the system. Although it is very generous from Apple, Adobe and Microsoft to give us a lot of fonts for free it is wise to manage them yourself. Check the following font locations:
    ~Library/Fonts
    ~System/Library/Fonts
~User/Library/Fonts (first make the Library visible: from within Terminal type the following command and press Return: chflags nohidden ~/Library)
Remove all fonts installed by Adobe (109 fonts) and Microsoft (154 fonts) to a differrent location. I manage them with FontExplorer 3.0 but you are ofcourse free to use any other font manager you prefer. Clear out any system font which is not needed by the system. Make sure the removed fonts can be enabled when needed. In FontExplorer you can create a set like 'Adobe CS5 Fonts' and put all Adobe fonts in there. This also counts for Apple system fonts which you remove. Create a new set in FontExplorer and call it OS Lion Fonts for example and move all fonts in there. I'd like to point out that I choose to manage fonts myself and I keep FontExplorer's capabilities to organaise fonts turned off (Preferences > Advanced > Organise font files). This way the Finder structure I use to manage my fonts (which is by foundry/designer) is maintained.
Clearing all unneeded fonts keeps the font list short and uncluttered which makes it easy to select fonts in InDesign or any other app. When you are designing things you want to make a selection of fonts you want to use in advance so keeping a lot of fonts available to the system is pointless in my opinion anyway.
Also, this process gets rid of a lot of fonts which you don't use/need  like Chinese or whatever other language fonts. It shortens the font list dramatically. Setup font auto activation/deactivation so that fonts are disabled automatically after reboot or when you close a document to prevent the font list from growing out of proportions.
Below is the list of fonts which I keep installed/enabled by default in my ~System/Library/Fonts folder:
    Apple Color Emoji.ttf
    Apple Symbols.ttf
    AppleGothic.ttf
    Courier.dfont
    Geneva.dfont
    HelveLTMM
    Helvetica LT MM
    Helvetica.dfont
    HelveticaNeue.dfont
    HelveticaNeueDeskUI.ttc
    Keyboard.ttf
    LastResort.ttf
    LucidaGrande.ttc
    MarkerFelt.ttc
    Menlo.ttc
    Monaco.dfont
    Symbol.ttf
    Times LT MM
    Times.dfont
    TimesLTMM
    ZapfDingbats.ttf
I haven't checked Times yet but I think it can be disabled. If you think Times is causing problems and you rather want to activate it yourself when it is needed or you want to use it you can remove it from the ~System/Library/Fonts folder. Drag the font to the desktop to make a copy first. Next trash the font file. Enter your admin password end you're done. If a font is needed by the system it gets restored automatically and you get a notification like "The system font 'HelveticaNeue.dfont' had been restored. This font was removed. Mac OS X needs this font to display text onscreen."
If you don't use FontExplorer you can use Onyx to clean font caches when you are done clearing out unwanted fonts. Always reboot afterwards.
    Hope this helps.

  • Auto Activation of Content for CTS+ for HANA

    Hi Everyone,
I have configured CTS+ for HANA and I am able to transport HANA Content(Delivery Unit) From Dev to Quality box.
But my content like Views are not getting activated automatically.
The transport request in SOLMAN system is green and it says that
"AutoActivation of Content is disabled by default. To auto activate the content create delivery unit and add __AutoActivate to it.
For example, lets say I have a Delivery Unit Test.tgz so to auto activate the content of this delivery unit, I need to create a Delivery Unit with name
    Test__AutoActivate.tgz"
I have tried doing this but still the content is not getting activated automatically.
Is there another way to change the default setting of Auto Activation or do I need to add any parameter in HANA for this?

  • Auto-Activation

So far I have had ZERO success with font auto-activation. I installed Leopard a 1ghz imac g4 with some older Adobe products on it and MS Office Mac-X. I removed other font management software. I checked Auto-Activate on. I saved files in Illustrator, InDesign and Word with a specific font, closed the programs, turned the font off and opend the files again. NOTHING. It didn't work with anything. Very disappointing. If it doesn't work with Office or Adobe products it's completely useless. Can anyone offer some useful advice before I say something undignified?

    hello all,
I don't usually post here, but I have been looking all night for fixing a similar situation. first for the record, I'm a software dev and have been fully testing leopard since it's first adc available builds.
*alright, what was the problem I encountered ?*
well, yesterday I gave my production machine a shot to install 10.5. after problems with the internal raids not wanting to boot up the 10.5 partition etc and fixing these annoyances with some update, I came to a situation where I wanted to try Font Book, as the test machines running Leopard up untill now had no extra fonts and I rather neglected testing the auto-activation. on my production machine with some 600 font-families, I would be able to finally give it a run for its money. Nothing happened though. I did the simple test : open a new file in Textedit, give it a rubbish text and assign some extravagant fonts and save the file on your desktop. then open Font Book and de-activate the used fonts. I re-opened the files and they defaulted to Helvetica. no fancy fonts.
    *something was wrong.*
I tried the same on the alu imac and everything worked fine.
first, I thought it might ahve to do with residues of Linotype Fontexplorer but no. after a long search I found what might be the culprit : I did an archive and install and the /private/var/folders/ had kept a cache of fonts that was corrupted.
    *but there is a solution.*
I trashed the contents, and the com.apple.ATS.plist + com.apple.fontbook.plist files in my Library/Preferences and everything works flasless again.
to test, I turned on the Ask dialog when the system needs to re-enable a disabled font. to the contrary of the previous poster' belief, the auto-activation system does ACTIVATE disabled fonts. hence the feature.
i*f you want to verify this, try it for yourself :*
    * disable the fonts you just used in a Textedit rtf file and relaunch Textedit after you turned on the Fontbook option to warn you when it auto-activates disabled fonts.
    * you will see that the dialogs will ask you to confirm that you allow Texedit to use this disabled fonts.
    * if you confirm, then the document will display the font - even when it has been explicitly disabled. (you can use activity monitor to verify this : search the ATSServer process and double-click it to see its open files. you can see the disabled fonts enable themselves as they are allowed).
that is great and that is how font-managers work. you REALLY don't want to have more than the necessary fonts enabled all the time. (to verify : go and check the ATS process while enabling all fonts - will take a while)
+I'm not sure this will solve everything for everybody, but it might help to give you some insight in what might be wrong. if you encounter further problems, please see http://developer.apple.com/documentation/Darwin/Reference/ManPages/man8/atsutil. 8.html+
+to remove your cached font-databases in a more fashionable way.+
and don't forget to validate your fonts in Font Book (messed up fonts or duplicate fonts can still hang the rather fragile ATSserver).
good luck and please use your brains ( a cold, hard, bold fact is kind of creepy ).

  • Extensis auto-activation hangs in InDesign CS6

I have a Windows 7 64-bit machine with the CS6 Web & Design suite. Also have the Extensis Suitecase 4 installed. The auto-activation plugin works fine in Illustrator and Photoshop, but not in InDesign. When I open the panel via Windows\Extensions\Extensis, the panel displays, but it's black  and has a swirling progress indicator that never stops swirling. Seems like it's trying to launch but it never does. Tried to find some help online but didn't find anything on this.
    Anyone have any ideas?

    Mr. Panny,
My apologies regarding your misbehaving InDesign CS6 auto-activation plugin. I am hopeful we can help you resolve the issue and I assure you regardless of our recent release of Fusion 5 we will get Fusion 4 working correctly for you.
Generally, when that spinner appears and doesn't go away, it's because there's a communication failure between the plugin and the font panel. Often, this can be because the plugin hasn't properly loaded (or is an older version), but sometimes the host application - InDesign - doesn't give the plugin the opportunity to set up the connection with the panel.
There are a couple of log items we can review to isolate where the problem is occurring but it's probably best served for our tech support team to handle this.
There is no charge for the contact and they will log the case in the event we need to provide a patch to fix the problem.

  • Is anyone having problems with InDesign CC 'save' when UTC auto activation is on?

We recently switched to Creative Cloud and I've been having troubles with saving out of InDesign CC when I have the Universal Type Client 'auto activation' plug-in turned on. It acts like it is saving the InDesign file, but afterwards, when I try to close the file it still asks if I'd like to save it, and no matter how many times I say yes (and go through the motions of saving) it never actually saves the file. Once the auto activation plug-in is turned off I am able to save normally with no problems, other than having to manually activate fonts for every file I open.
Both versions of InDesign CC (v 9.2) and the the plug-in (v 4.0.2.3) are up to date. I have also manually reset the InDesign Defaults and InDesign SavedData preferences. Still have the problem. Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Any suggestions I haven't yet tried?

Yes, sometimes the Undo/Redo was also disabled, but at the time we weren’t sure if that was related to the ’Save' issues or not. It seems to be sporadic. If InDesign is restarted sometimes the Undo/Redo will be operational again, but later may suddenly decide to stop working. We haven’t determined any sort of pattern yet.
Re: the ‘Save’ issue…Since my initial posting we have determined that by unchecking the UTC Auto Activate preference for “embedded objects” we are able to once again save files. However, if we do have the 'auto activate for embedded files’ checked, the ‘save’ operation is disabled only for ‘some' files that we open, but not necessarily for all files.
