Suitcase Fusion Question

I recently was deleting fonts from Extensis Suitcase Fusion. Apparently, at some point, I tossed a font that upset Fusion. Now whenever I try to access the app. (to add a folder, font, etc.) I get a "Connection Failed" notice that reads–
"The server may not exist or it is not operational at this time. Check the server name or IP address and your network connection and try again."
This pop-up prevents me from doing anything with Fusion.
I am not, and never have been, connected to a server.
My computer is an iMac.
Any thoughts?

  • Anyone having issues with InDesign (CS5) and Suitcase Fusion 3 (Mac)?

I've run into a problem that I think might be caused by Suitcase Fusion 3 [Version 14.2.0 (319)], but I'm wondering if anyone here is having any issues with InDesign and Suitcase Fusion like I am?
Just about every time I launch an InDesign document or an Illustrator document (don't seem to have the issue in Photoshop, strangely enough) it pretty much crashes to the point where it's a force quit. Before anyone asks the question, this is what I've done - I've reformatted my hard disk (even writing 0s!), done a clean install of Lion (10.7.3), clean install of Creative Suite 5 (and updates), clean install of Suitcase (and updates)...you get the idea. I'm still ending up with crashing just about every time I open a document in these two apps.
As an experiment I downloaded a (fully functioning) trial version of FontAgent Pro (which I didn't like, btw) and didn't encounter any crashing at all in either application.
I've opened a ticket with Adobe to see if they have any details as to whether this is a known conflict or whatever (though I don't hold much hope for getting help from them since it's looking more like a Suitcase issue than a Creative Suite one).
Does anybody have any suggestions as to what I can do to try and resolve this?
I'm in the middle of producing two magazines and I really really don't need this! Lol

From the lovely people at Extensis tech support -
Thanks for the info. As you said, if this is happening when you have only manually activated fonts, then the auto-activation isn't coming into play which does lead me to think it is related to the plug-in generally and maybe the sleep issue, which you say you definitely have. So I've added you to the sleep issue tracking.
If you find yourself coming back from putting the computer to sleep and the apps with Suitcase plugins have hung, do this:
    1)      Go to your spotlight and type in "activity"
    2)      Launch "Activity Monitor"
    3)      Highlight the name of the adobe/quark application that is hanging by clicking it.
    4)      Click the "Sample Process" button at the top of the screen.
    5)      Click the "Save" button.
    6)      Click the "Save" button again and save the file to your desktop.
    7)      This will generate a file such as " Sample of Adobe Illustrator CS5.txt"
    8)      Repeat this process with any other application that is hanging.
    9)      Highlight the "FMCore" process by clicking it.
    10)  Click the "Sample Process" button at the top of the screen.
    11)  Click the "Save" button.
    12)  Click the "Save" button again and save the file to your desktop.
    13)  This will generate a file named " Sample of FMCore.txt"
    14)  Place these files along with the ".Plugins.txt" files created earlier into a new folder called "Plugins"
    15)  Right click (control+click) to compress into a .zip file.
Please attach this zip in reply to this mail.
When we are sure of a fix, we'll get back to you. In the meantime here are some workarounds:
    Option 1:
    1)      Back up your font sets by dragging them to the desktop
    2)      Remove SF3 v14.2 by following the instructions here:
    http://www.extensis.com/en/support/kb_article.jsp?articleNumber=4020
    3)      Download and re-install Suitcase Fusion 3 (version 14.0.6) from:
    http://dl.extensis.com/downloads/ST/EN/M/SuitcaseFusion3-M-1406-EN.zip
    4)      Are there fonts and font sets in your old font vault you would like to recover?
    If NO :
    a)      Open SF3
    b)      Simply drag and drop your original fonts into the SF3 "Font Library". This will copy the fonts into a new font vault.
If YES : Restore your old fontvault from the backup the removal tool created
    a)      If you choose "Y" to KEEP your font vault earlier when you ran the removal script, on your desktop you will find a folder called "Extensis-Backup-today's date" that contains a backup of your previous suitcase fusion 3 fontvault.
    b)      Move your old font vault from the "Extensis-Backup-today's date" folder on your desktop into this folder:
    /Users/[your username]/Library/Extensis/Suitcase Fusion/Suitcase Fusion.fontvault
    c)       Launch SF3 from your dock. you should now see all your old fonts and font sets.
    Option 2:
Remove our auto-activation plugins and activate your fonts manually in SF3 and/or add your adobe/quark apps to the SF3 > Preferences > General > Global Auto-Activation Options list. here's how:
    1)      In SF3: choose Suitcase Fusion 3 > Manage Plugins
    2)      Uncheck the boxes for adobe/quark apps; this will remove our auto-activation plugins
    3)      Choose SF3 > Preferences > General
    4)      Under "Global Auto-Activation Options", press the "+" button to add your adobe/quark apps
Please note that "global auto-activation" is less accurate than our plugin-based auto-activation. Double check your font usage in your design app to confirm the correct font was loaded after opening a document.

  • Suitcase Fusion 3 and OS X 6.6

I just updated to OS X 6.6 and found that I needed to update Suitcase well. Suitcase is now Suitcase Fusion 3 and is showing me that all of my system fonts are open and locked. I really don't want to work with all of those fonts open. Is there a way to unlock them so I can turn off fonts that are not necessary?

If the answer can't be found in the Suitcase Fusion 3 user guide:

You'll probably have better luck getting an answer to that question if you ask in Extensis' own forums:

I just installed OS Lion and now Suitcase Fusion 3 (Version 14.2.1 (332)) is not working. It opens, but when I try to turn on any font I get this message:
"The font activation cannot complete due to an OS activation error."
I've updated all the software, and have searched for a fix but can't seem to find one.
    Any advice would be appreciated!

  • Life after Suitcase Fusion. How do I install a font manager to Tiger?

I just rid my Dual Processor G5 Power Mac w/ Tiger 4.7 upgraded system (gasp) of Suitcase Fusion, (say no more). I need to install Font Agent Pro 3 or FontExplorer X.
However, I'm green at the thought of reintroducing another font manager. Do I shut down Font book? I've read that no font manager should run side by side with font book, or any other font manager. I'm still suffering a little PSD.
G5   Mac OS X (10.4.6)   Running Adobe Creative Suite

I guess my real gripe is that why? would Apple remove a feature from the OS that was there for more than 15 years...
A very good question. There are a lot of pre OS X features that have slowly worked their way back in, such as spring loaded folders. But why this feature still hasn't reappeared this far into OS X's development is puzzling and frustrating.
I'd never heard of Font Smasher before, so looked it up and downloaded the demo. Being from the same folks who produce Font Agent Pro, it's probably pretty nice software. Rather pricey though at $49 for a single usage application. Especially for someone in your position who would have to purchase more than a few copies in order to spread them around the shop. I'll stick with using Font Doctor for now since I already have it.
But yes, it drives me a bit nuts that we still can't do this as easily as we could in OS 7 - 9. A copyright issue Apple had to conform to? Not very plausible since we could do this up until OS X. About all you can do is give Apple feedback and ask that we get this function back. I'm sure you know as well as I some of the mishmashed suitcases clients send that need to be cleaned up in order to use them.
The need to do able to get into font suitcases will be around for a long time, so it's not a minor thing.

  • Missing fonts in InDesign CS4 - even when 'open' in Suitcase Fusion 3

Hi all, I'm running InDesign CS4 on a Intel Mac Pro (tower), about 4 years old, running OSX Snow Leopard (all updates applied).
Using Suitcase Fusion V3 for font management.
I have a document that previously had no font issues at all.  Now when I open it InDesign throws up a 'Missing font' error.
I have the correct fonts installed and 'open' in Suitcase Fusion.
The font is available in Simpletext and Pages, but not InDesign and Illustrator.
The troublesome font was OK the other day and has been since it was installed.
I've not changed anything that I'm aware of... but now InDesign won't 'see' the font.
In the 'Find Font' dialogue box the 'Path' says it's 'Unkown or missing'.
InDesign can see the other weights in the font family (bold, italic etc) but not regular.  And yet the entire font family is in the same folder on my hard drive.
I've tried deleting all the' Adobe.lst' files.  No Joy.
I've run Font Doctor on the whole font family, its says it's OK.
    I've tried re-installing the font from a back-up.  Nada.
If anyone has any suggestions..... feel free to let rip!
As ever, I await your expertise and unstinting knowledge in these matters   And, needless to say, I'll be mighty appreciative for it!
    RP

Hi Bob, strangely... I've put the troublesome font, Dax (T1) Regular, in the Applications/Adobe InDesign CS4/Fonts folder and it seems to be working.
Never had to do that before.
Would be great to get back to 'normal'.  If possible.
Although I have many duplicates spread across back-up drives and collected artwork folders, I've also tried to eliminate any duplicate 'open' versions.  But the above solution is the only one that works at the moment.
    RP
p.s. I also tried removing any AdobeFNT**.lst files, (where ** is a number) before the above work around.  That didn't work either.

  • AI/CS4 crashes on Start-up - Suitcase Fusion 3 Issue?

I installed Suitcase Fusion 3 the other day.  Now Illustrator crashes on startup.  Could it be part of the SF3 auto-activation?  It wouldn't be the first time it caused a problem, but I un-clicked the "Illustrator CS4" button, and it still crashes.
I did contact Extensis, and Isent them a System Profile Report.  Their guy says he "sees some strange things" in it, and asked about classic and if I changed the default install location for AI CS4.
    Any help will be appreciated!

I just wrote something in another thread here concerning Fusion and Font Book. They don't play nice with each other.
This should have came with your Fusion3 Install, but check out page 8 of this PDF:
    http://doc.us.extensis.com/SuitcaseFusion3-User-Guide-Mac.pdf
On my work station, after setting up Font Book's preferences, I "disable" the program by making it a .zip archive so that it does not launch.
Concerning your .ai preferences, you have to go to the actual folder in your "Library" and delete the preferences. Illustrator will recreate this file once you launch it again.
And you can also go to the plug-ins folder within the illustrator folder to remove the Fusion3 plug-in.

  • Illustrator not opening: I've installed Suitcase Fusion 5 on to MAC running osx 10.6.8

After this install Adobe Illustrator no longer opens up. I've used the CC Cleaner Tool to uninstall illustrator. Moved Fonts into one library, checked they're all ok. Started up the app without any plugins. Created a new users on the Mac and the application still doesn't open.

    Gareth,
Here is the Extensions Suitcase 5 update that may solve the issue:

  • Suitcase Fusion 5 making Adobe CC slow?

Hi. New Macbook Pro Retina. Just moved back to Suitcase Fusion 5, after really liking Fontcase for several years.
It seems the Extensis plugins are really decreasing the startup time for Photoshop, etc. I don't even have any fonts loaded or activeted, beyond the system fonts. When I remove the photoshop extensis plug in, launch time is super fast, 2 seconds. With the plug in it feels like forever, 6 seconds.
    Anyone else experiencing this?
Also, do the extensions enbable auto font activation for Adobe CC apps, or just the the integrated font panels I see under the Extensions menu in CC apps? I don;t care much for the integrated font panels.
    Thanks for any help.

You'll get better answers in the PS forum or the Extensis ones for that matter, I'm sure...

  • Illustrator 11.0.2 crashes network MAC OS 10.5.6 Suitcase Fusion 12.1.7

Just a heads up for anyone out there using Illustrator 11.0.0. Before what happened below I had already updated to the so called version 11.0.2.
What happened was my connection to my airport extreme kept logging out when I loaded Illustrator. I have external drives connected, one is a resource folder with my fonts on.
    b Here's what happened:
b I don't know if the issue was caused by:
    * updating my OS from 10.3 to 10.5
    * changing from Suitcase X1 to Fusion
b The chain of events were thus:
    * I updated my OS to 10.5.6. Illustrator worked fine
    * updated suitcase to Fusion 2 (then found out it doesn't work for Adobe CS1) Illustrator crashes network connection
    * updated suitcase X1 to Fusion 1
    * illustrator still continues to crash connection
So I removed illustrator and fusion. then I installed illustrator again and fusion... no update to 11.0.2.
    Illustrator works fine.
As I say not sure what was making loading Illustrator lose my network connection. Was it the fonts being on the external drive connected to the airport? I don't think so as it's working fine now.
I think it's something to do with the 11.0.2 update and Fusion.
Just thought I'd mention it in case anyone is having a connection issue loading illustrator with the above system and software.
    Cheers
    Glynn

    Hi Scott
Illustrator 11.0 works fine with OS 10.5.6. The only issue is the upgrade to 11.0.2.
I think this is because it's an update into the classic environment, which isn't part of 10.5 or 10.4. 10.3 pre-loaded with the classic OS, which is what, I believe, the two files are for.
I'm not blaming Adobe for the issue (don't get so defensive dude), just giving people the heads up if they are having similar trouble with Illustrator 11 working on 10.4 or 10.5. A fresh install, with no updates resolved the issue for me.
I know Adobe want us all to upgrade, which is fair enough, but when I first bought everything new it cost me close to £11,000 in software and computers. As a one man band the upgrade from CS1 Premium to CS4 Premium is (at a special offer rate from Adobe) £500 (which will be £715). Then I'd need to Upgrade Quark from 6.5 to 8 (costing £299) THEN I'd need Suitcase Fusion 2, another £40 and probably something else then. So just under £900 or $1,248. Money I don't have yet.
So basically Adobe need to realise, as do other software providers, that people can't keep upgrading to every release and try, in some way, to help ensure older software still works.
BUT to reiterate, I'm only posting this to try and help people and not have a go at Adobe.
    Point made I hope.

  • Adobe CC apps will not open after Suitcase Fusion 6 upgrade.

It appears that, after installing the recent Suitcase Fusion 6 upgrade (WIN7-64-bit) most of my Adobe CC apps won't open?!

CS2 seems to conflict with CS6.  One user found this to work.  AppData is a hidden folder in case you try this.
I finally got it to launch via instructions from another web page. In my case, I am running Win 7 Professional 64-bit and previously loaded Photoshop and Bridge versions CS2 (along with Illustrator and InDesign CS2), which might have been part of the problem. The solution for me was to create an empty "Bridge CS2" folder in the C:\Users\[your user name]\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\. Worked like a charm.
You might have to use the Adobe Script Cleaner to get rid of traces of the CR2 files.

  • Typekit sync problem in Photoshop (Suitcase fusion?)

I am on a Mac OS X 10.9 and all my CC apps are up to date
I installed a few desktop fonts from Typekit. They worked fine in Photoshop but after restarting my Mac the fonts were disabled in Photoshop. I then turned file and font sync of/on in CC settings, and it partly fixed the problem. But one of the typefaces are still disabled (LFT Etica - Bold).
I am using Suitcase Fusion 2.0. I can see from other threads that it may cause troubles.
    Best/Trine

We've released an update to Suitcase Fusion 5 that addresses Typekit compatibility. The update is avaiable free to all registered Suitcase Fusion 5 users and can be downloaded here:

There's some good info about Fusion 5's Typekit integration in this blog post:

  • OSX 10.7+cs5+suitcase fusion 3 recipe for crash!

I install mountain lion on my imac with cs5 and suitcase fusion 3, and now all the applications from cs5, crashes every 15 min. I tried to fix it by the disk utility, but doesn't work.

Sorry that Illustrator is being slow for you. If you think that that Suitcase is causing the problem. I would do two things.
    1. Ensure that your version of Suitcase was built to work with your version of Illustrator.
    http://www.extensis.com/downloads/compatibility-guides/suitcase-fusion-compatibility-guide /
    2. If they are compatible, and you still think that it's Suitcase, please contact Extensis support.

  • Fontbook fonts not syncing with my software programs-after SuitCase Fusion Trial

I am hoping someone can offer some insight / help. I am frantic .....a graphic designer needing my fonts asap!!
TRIGGER/ Problem arose today --  I installed and then uninstalled a trial version of Suitcase Fusion 3 today - and now 1/2 of my fonts are not recongnized by my software programs (ie: all Adobe software, MS Word, excel etc).
Basically when I open up FONTBOOK it shows all of my fonts under the ALL FONTS column, however when I want to use them in InDesign or PhotoShop or WORD, or Illustrator ....etc (you get the idea) ...they are not available from any drop down menues. It's as though the Fusion Software trial delinked them from use in all my applications?
Does anyone know how to reestablish fonts as they are listed / available in FONTBOOK?
Is there possible corruption OR is it just something I need to reestablish in my system?
    Thanks kindly,
    Jhoe

You used the software's built in uninstaller correct?
Because if you didn't you need to install it again, then use their uninstaller first.
    Next, download OnyX here
    http://www.titanium.free.fr/
Run ALL the maintenance and cleaning aspects, you can cancel the reboot in between, but you need to reboot at the end of using OnyX.
This page especially should be of extra interest, it will rebuild your font caches.
Going to take a little time, but hopefully that will fix your issue.
None of your programs, files or fonts will be deleted, it's just cleaning out the system so it can rebuild itself.
If it doesn't work, then what likely has happened is the trial software didn't completely remove itself or altered something and didn't place things back the way it should be.
You should contact the support people for that program. They might have instructions.
But since you can't always count on them, it's always best to have a "hold option bootable clone" of your boot drive on a external drive which you can reverse clone from or use if your boot drive dies, and/or a TimeMachine drive where you can restore back to a previous state before the software install occurred.
