Summary OTHER

Summary other I just updated settings and now where your summary is down the bottom on itunes it is showing like 3g used in other and it was no why near even 1 g before could some one tell me how to check out what is in the other so I can remove it.

The "other" normally includes the iOS files. However, corrupted app data and iTunes index files can make it grow abnormally. Sometimes just adding a new song to your phone can fix it. You may have to restore the phone in iTunes.
FYI, punctuation and sentences are your friend, if you want others to bother figuring out what you're trying to say.

This is crazy. While upgrading my Mom's 20" iMac with my 24" iMac (I upgraded to a 27" iMac) and doing a transfer of her iPhoto Library (a small 950 MB file) from the 20" to the 24" (via direct connection to each other with an Ethernet Cat5e cable). Everything was clicking along just fine, slow, but fine. Then I go back to check on the progress and find the screen is black. I thought it had merely gone to sleep. It was not asleep. It was dead. Wouldn't power back up at all.
I should give you a little back story so you'll have all the info in helping figure this issue out. The internal hard drive on the 20" went out about a year ago and I took it to the Apple store to be diagnosed & repaired. They said the internal drive replacement would cost $350. They suggested a less expensive option by getting an external hard drive (EHD). So, the OS & applications were put on the EHD and all has been good up until today. The EHD is slower than the internal drive was, but my Mom isn't fast either.
I had a "duh" moment after the iMac died thinking the EHD data transfer may have caused my problem. The duh moment came when I realized I didn't have to do a Mac to Mac ethernet transfer at all. All I had to do was disconnect the EHD from the 20" and plug it into the 24". Super DUH.
In summary, other than resets of the SMC and PRAM, and disconnecting power for LONG periods of time, is there something I'm overlooking? I've even used the powercord from my 24" on the 20" thinking it might have been bad. But I know I'm getting power because the EHD power light comes on when the iMac is plugged in. The iMac makes no sound at all when pushing the power button. No click, whir, chime or fan.
Your knowledge and expertise in this matter will be greatly appreciated.

LOL...I wish. I bought this one (my first) in May of 2006. She's an old bird. Like me.
Since then my Apple collection has grown and been shared with many in my family. I just can't see putting it out to pastures. It's been such a good machine. I'm going to see if there's a chance to repair it without too many green backs.
    Thanks again for your reply.

  • Pulling duplicate members in excel

    Hi all
I have just built an ASO cube allowing duplicate members for the first time. I have 2 dimensions with duplicate parents (Other):
    Summary Allowed
    Other Other
How do I call up "Other" in Excel (using the Excel Add-in). I cannot just put "Other" in the sheet as it returns an error
(unknown member name [[Summary]@[Other]] in Outline query
Thanks for your help as always

    Hello,
Create a new member down the first one in your dimension. Put the value 'shared member' in DataStorage options.

  • I have a lot of 'other' data on my iPhone 4 summary on iTunes. I looked on the internet it said stuff like you should restore it etc, but i would like to keep all of my data. How do I reduce the amount of 'other' data which is around 3.5 GB

    Hi,
On my macbook pro, I have connected it with my Iphone 4, on the summary it says that I have 3.5 GB of 'other' data, which is bigger than my photos and music. How do I make this smaller without losing all of my data in a restoration. I do not kno what the difference is between a normal restoration and a restoration form back up. Also i have already tried deleting old messsages and book marks but nothing is working. I searched on the internet and it said something about it being corrupted!!
    Please Help!!!!!!
    Thankyou!!!

  • Summary Report  is carried over to other reports when the reports

    Hi ,
Did anybody have an experience of a customized invoice report that needs to show invoice summary amounts in all pages if the invoice has more than one page? My company requires that the summary amounts have to be at the bottom of each page.
I created three repeating frames (A, B1 and B2). A is the invoice line group. B1 and B2 are in the same group of invoice header. B1 is the invoice customer information and B2 is the invoice summary information. In this case, I can force B2 stay at the bottom.
The invoice report will be fine if only one invoice is printed (the summary amounts will show up at all pages if the invoice page is more than one). But the problem will appear if a user tries to print mutiple invoices at the same time, i.e., run report in range. The summary amounts in the first invoice will be carried to all other invoices, which means that the summary amounts do not reset at invoice level.
    Please help!!!

    Hi FJK,
Thank you for your quick response!
The invoice will print the summary amounts at all pages when a user prints one invoice at a time. The summary amounts will not display correctly if muitlple invoices are printed at the same time (I have parameters of invoice_number_low and invoice_number_high that allows users to print invoices in range). The summary amounts in the first invoice will be carried to other invoices, which are not correct.

  • What is "other" in the iPod capacity bar on the summary page?

I'd like to know what the other is for on my iTouch summary page? It is currently showing as 291 mb. All I have loaded is some video and music, there are no apps installed?
    Thanks,
    Dave

Other can be Album Artwork, Notes, Contacts, Firmware (the operating system software) etc. or (and this doesn't apply to the iPod Touch or iPhone which don't have the option to enabled for disk use), files that are on there if you are using the iPod as a removable storage device. If you feel that Other is being incorrectly reported then try restoring your iPod.

  • My 4 gb ipod Nano is full yet there are only 20 songs on it. In summary, it just says "other" is taking up the space. Was fine one day and the next I got this. Help?

Have had problems since downloading iTunes 10. First it moved all my iTunes music files to another location. Next, I lost all my songs on my iPod. I went to replace the music to the iPod that I'd lost, but it only allows me to add about 20 songs (on a 4gb Nano) then says disk is full. In the Summary on the iPod, "other" is taking up all the remaining space. I have no videos, pictures, or anything else on the iPod. How do I free up that "used" space? Please help? And Thanks!

  • Summary Report based on Subreports or other Crystal Reports

We use several Detail Reports. Additional we want to create a summary Report where we can see certain values or totals of the Detail Reports.
Is there a way to combine this information with Crystal?

You can set the value in the subreport like this:
    shared NumberVar orderamount;
    orderamount := {Orders.Order Amount};
You can sho the set value in your main report using the following code:
    shared NumberVar orderamount;
    orderamount

  • Under Option Summary, the usage includes AUDIO, PHOTOS, APPS and OTHERS. What are the things included in OTHERS? It is using up my storage space.

Under Option Summary, the usage includes AUDIO, PHOTOS, APPS and OTHERS. What are the things included in OTHERS? It is using up my storage space. Can someone please help?

To add to Nick's comments, "Other" is typically approximately 1 gigabyte.  Occasionally for some users, it gets much (many times) bigger because they have some corrupt files.  If that's the case, it's best to restore the iPhone.
Plug the iPhone into (current) iTunes, let it sync, then choose "Restore" on the right.  If restoring from the iPhone backup does not help, then restore (again) as new and then manaully sync the iPhone.

  • In tune show all summary activity during sync between nb and apple device. One of the summary is memory space status. Audio mayb3gb, photo 2gb, app with 3gb. What is other? Other consist of what type of file?

In tune show all summary activity during sync between nb and apple device. One of the summary is memory space status. Audio mayb3gb, photo 2gb, app with 3gb. What is other? Other consist of what type of file? It show quite substantial storage capacity?? Anyone can answer what is in other??

"Other" includes data such as contact information and photos assigned to contacts, calendar events, Safari bookmarks/cookies/history, notes created with the Notes application, SMS messages, email stored locally or cached, and 3rd party application data created and stored by the application.
If "other" is more than say .75GB at the most, you had a corrupt sync. Try syncing again and if the problem persists, the recognized fix for this is to restore your iPad.

  • In the summary section in iTunes, what is "other" on my iPhone 5 ?

Using iTunes, In the summary section as I review the contents of my iPhone, there is an "other" category and it is taking up over 11GB of memory in my iPhone.  What is in this category? Do I need it?  If not, how do I reduce or remove it?

  • I have an iphone 4 and i have upgraded to ios 5. but after upgrading all my apps disappeared and in the summary tab in itunes it jus shows as other data..! please help

i have an iphone 4 and i have upgraded to ios 5. but after upgrading all my apps disappeared and in the summary tab in itunes it jus shows as other data..! please help

When I went to reload my phone it gave the option of restoring with icloud or itunes so i chose itunes (assuming icloud would have many more bugs). Afterwards, I had no music and 6.6g of other.
What I did was go into itunes, clicked my iphone 4, and clicked on each of the top tabs (summery, info, apps, ringtones, music, etc.) and ensured I had them all clicked onto sync/selected playlist etc.As my phone restored, the 6.6g of other dropped to .99g of other.
Unfortunately, all my songs are gone but everything else seems to be in tact. I don't think there is any way around this issue for now with the new ios 5 update when syncing either an ipad or iphone. I have an ipad 2 but am going to hold off on updating it until apple gets the bugs sorted out because, I'm sure you will agree, getting the music back to where you want it to be is a total nightmare and takes ages to not only pick the right songs and artists to put on it, but also the ones that will fit correctly with the space, depending on the size you have.
    I hope that helps.

  • Need to Know The "Other" in my summary

When connected to my computer, it shows my Iphone and what is on it. In the summary tab it lists, apps, data & documents, pictures, and "Other". How do I find what is in the "other" portion of my phone?

    You don't.
It is the content that does not fall under the named categories.  It is normal to have a GB or so in "other".  Much more than this indicates corrupt files.  A restore should resolve.

  • Why does my itunes summary show so much in the 'other' tab

while tryng to synch my iphone, it told me i didnt have enough room for my 5 new songs, that i need over 3mb to do this. then i took a whole bunch of stuff off my phone including ALL of my music, (and fb!)and the 'other' in my summary tab shot up to 7.14 gb!!!! that's almost half my 16 gb! what does the 'other' tab mean?

    Hey ridgegirl,
Try out these steps to resolve the issue:
Orphaned files may remain on your iOS device if it is physically disconnected while syncing music, podcasts, videos, or photos. This can prevent iTunes from syncing the iOS device on subsequent sync sessions. When this happens, the Capacity indicator in iTunes may report a large amount of "Other" disk usage for the iOS device. To resolve this issue:
Turn off the music or photo sync option in iTunes for the device.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Turn the music and photo sync options for the device on again.
Click Apply again to try to sync the device to iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 5.
Turn off the automatic syncing functions for the iOS device. To do this:
Select the iOS device from the iTunes window and click the Summary tab.
Deselect "Automatically sync when this device is connected" and select the "Sync only checked songs and videos" checkbox.
Click Apply to sync the changes to the device.
Reduce the amount of data that is being synced to the device and resync the device. For example, if syncing your Music library exceeds the memory capacity of the device, choose "Selected playlists" to transfer rather than "All songs and playlists" under the Music tab in iTunes.
If the 'Not enough free space' alert appears, continue to step 6.
    Restore using iTunes.
