Sun Application Server 8.x and MySql Connector 3.1 hangup problem

Hello,
I have several applications using com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optional.MysqlConnectionPoolDataSource connection pools within SJAS 8.1 and 8.2. After a longer time of inactivity, the pool does not give me a connection anymore nor throws an exception. The server hangs endlessly and after several minutes other applications which aren't using DB access at all do not respond anymore as well.
Does anybody have the same problem and found a solution?
Thanks,
marc.

    the requested resource not available
    anybody who knows the anwser plz reply me soon and help me to get rid of this error..........................

    Your code looks fine. Unless you actually made a typo in the URL I can't explain this problem. To verify this I even copied your web.xml and the SimpleServlet without any changes to my playground environment and it ran just flawlessly at http://localhost:8080/playground/servlets/HelloWorld
    To exclude things, have you tried another applicationserver (Tomcat 6? Glassfish? Jetty?) or maybe another OS?

  • Sun Application Server 9.0 and Creator

    I am using the webui.jar and other libraries from Creator in applications that will be deployed on Sun Application Server 9.0. These applications worked fine on Sun Application Server 8.2 When I try to deploy them on 9.0, they will work except code in the init() methods does not get executed. However, code in the prerender() methods does still get executed. Can anyone help me out with this problem?

  • Sun application Server 9.0 and Struts

    Hi all I am guessing this doesn't quite fall into this category, but I am not sure where exactly to put it. I am starting to develop an application on Sun's Application server using struts. The problem that I am encountering is that I don't know where to look for the equivalent of servlet.jar if that is indeed what it is called in Sun's application server (Edition 9.0). Any suggestions/advice would be great.
    Edited
    I included the version number as it is possible that things have moved around from version to version.

    I'd look for JARs like "j2ee.jar".
    The important thing is finding the one that has "javax.servlet" package in it. Open the likely culprits until you find it.

  • Policy Agent on Sun Application Server 9.1

    I'm attempting to deploy the Access Manager Policy Agent to Sun Application Server 9.1 and I'm running into some issues.

    Any thoughts or recommendations would be appreciated.

    Hi,
    One thing that could help is to look at the info in the agent logs, first increase Debug Logging Level, then restart the agent server and click thru your app, then look in agent runtime logs which should have more descriptive errors. For more detail on how to do this, try http://wikis.sun.com/display/OpenSSO/GlassFishAgentTrouble#GlassFishAgentTrouble-generaltips
    You could look on this page, which is mostly based on GlassFish server but could help for other servers as well.
    http://wikis.sun.com/display/OpenSSO/GlassFishAgentTrouble
    I have not installed either of the policy agents you mentioned. But with some of the other agents, like the Sun App server 9 (GlassFish) agent, it comes with a sample application, and I find that this is the best way to ensure your setup is good and you are following all steps etc. Once sample app is up, you can try your own apps with confidence.
    Since you already have the SJSAS 9 installed, maybe you could create a new domain and download/install the SJSAS 9 policy agent on the new domain. Then try out the sample app?
    Or if those other agents have a sample app then try it out.

  • JSP and the Sun Application Server. Is it really nessecary?

    Downloaded Creater 2, and love it. I really didn't realize how easy JSP is. Though I would be interested in knowing: Does the Sun Application Server needs to be running in order to use JSP.
    Talking to my Hosting Provider, they have a plan in which JSP is included but the Sun Application Server is not. If I decide to get their JSP Hosting plan, do I truly need the Application Server to run my JSP forms and all the other great things that Creater 2 has to offer?
    Thanks in Advance!
    Josef

    No you don't. You're app will run in any JEE server like Tomcat, Jetty, JBoss, Jonas, etc. If you are using EJBs, however, the server you choose must have EJB support.

  • Sun Java Application Server 9.0 and 9.1 - High CPU PROCENTAGE 100%

    Hi,
    I have problem with sun java application Server running after few days during watching a logs from web admin suddenly the application server takes 100% cpu and keeps this procentage - I have to manually close the server process.
    The server running on Windows Server 2003.
    Anyone have any idea to sovle the problem?

    Hi Kedar,
    Thanks for the reply. Yes, I finally figured it out.
    The custom MBeans seem to work well for the most part though I don't know for sure if I'm using them in the way they were really intended.
    Basically, I want to run 'services' on my application server for the lifetime of the server. I want these 'services' to maintain things like runtime caching of information over time that is not persisted in a DB but needs to be kept around in active memory to be used at a later time, but only while the application server is up and running.
    Another thing I would like to do is have them receive JMS notifications directly, but I seem to be having trouble when subscribing as a consumer within my custom MBean. The topic thread on that is here:

  • Application server 9.0 with mysql

    Hello!
    I'm using glassfish with application server 9.0 and i want to connect with mysql.
    My settings are:
    datasource classname: com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optional.MysqlDataSource
    resource type: javax.sql.connectionpoolDataSource
    ARE OK?
    I use mysql connector 3.1.13, 5.0.2 or 3.1.13? which is correct?
    Thanks

    Hi,
    Please take a look at the following blog which talks about using mysql with Glassfish:
    http://weblogs.java.net/blog/amyroh/archive/2006/02/roller_21_on_gl_1.html
    In this example the driver that she uses is sql-connector-java-3.1.12-bin.jar
    Also, she uses the following:
    datasource-classname="com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optional.MysqlConnectionPoolDataSource"
    which is slightly different to the one that you are using... maybe you should try this....
    Also, please take a look at the three furum posts already raised on similar issues to this:

  • How to configure sun application server 8.2 for Oracle RAC 10g

    Hello,
    We have numerous boxes running the sun platform application server 8.2 and 2 boxes running enterprise version 8.2 all connecting to a 4 node Oracle RAC 10 G release 2 database. We have the system up and working. The application servers are connecting just fine to the database and the apps don't have any problems querying, inserting, etc. However, when we try to do failover testing of situations when a node or nodes of the Oracle RAC database goes down the application server does not gain new valid connections. Our configuration is this, OracleDataSource for the data source, table validation turned on with a valid table, ONS configuration set in properties, connectionCache enabled, and fastconnectionfailover enabled as well in the properties. We have that long oracle rac url with load balancing turned on set fot the database URL. We have the checkbox checked to fail all connections on any failure. ONS is configured properly within the database because we have a java application that runs outside of the application server that uses all the same settings described above (only set manually in our code for the OracleDataSource). This application works seemlessly when DB nodes are shutdown. We can shutdown all but one node and it's still humming along without skipping a beat. Start up one of the others, kill the last node, it still hums along nicely without skipping a beat. We'd really like to get the applications running in the application server to work the same way. Any help would be greatly appreciated. We've tried all the combinations that we can think of with configuration settings in the application server and it never works. Am tempted to rip out the database connection pool from inside the application server and configure it manually in the code but we are using entity beans and this is the much easier approach, if it will work. It's down to the point of does sun application server actually work with oracle RAC for connection failovers.

    Hi,
    We are also facing similar execption. Here is the error, we are getting, when a node is failed on RAC.

  • JMS problem with Sun Application Server 8.2

    Hi!
    I've just started trying JMS and found a problem.
    I set a connection factory called "QueueConnectionFactory" in the Sun Application Server Admin Consol.
    After this I test this code:
    import javax.jms.*;
    import javax.naming.*;
    public class Sun_JNDI
    public static void main(String args[]) throws Exception
    Context jndiContext = null;
    System.setProperty("java.naming.factory.initial","com.sun.enterprise.naming.SerialInitContextFactory" );
    System.setProperty("java.naming.factory.url.pkgs","=com.sun.enterprise.naming");
    System.setProperty("java.naming.provider.url","localhost:1024");
    jndiContext = new InitialContext();
    Object O = jndiContext.lookup("QueueConnectionFactory");
    System.out.println(jndiContext);
    in result I got this long Exception message:

    The result was: javax.naming.NameNotFoundException
    I know it is a small code example but if I'm not able to solve this problem I can't go on with JMS.
    I would be glad by any help.

    Hello
    In my code it looks like that:
    1: System.setProperty("com.sun.jndi.ldap.LdapCtxFactory", "iiop://localhost:3700");
    2: Context ctx = new InitialContext();
    3: TopicConnectionFactory factory = (TopicConnectionFactory)ctx.lookup("jms/DailyDestinationFactory");
    4: TopicConnection connection = factory.createTopicConnection();
    5: TopicSession session = connection.createTopicSession(false, Session.AUTO_ACKNOWLEDGE);
    6: Topic topic = (Topic)ctx.lookup("jms/DailyBean");
    7: TopicPublisher pub = session.createPublisher(topic);
    8: TextMessage msg = session.createTextMessage();
    9: msg.setText("NewMessage");

  • Https hangs in Sun Application Server 9.0

    Hi All,
    We have recently moved our web application from Sun Application server 8.0 to Sun Application server 9.0. We have noticed that sometimes our web application hangs when switching from http to https connection. After doing netstat on the server found that lots of sockets are waiting in the CLOSE_WAIT status instead of the, I guess, the TIME_WAIT status.
    Can anyone tell me the possible reasons for this and the solution to this problem.
    As per some forums have also upgraded the jdk to 1.5.12 but to no avail. And there was no problem whatsoever when the application was deployed in SJAS 8.0
    Thanks,
    HKD

    Try adding the following JVM option in domain.xml file.
    <jvm-options>-Dcom.sun.enterprise.web.connector.useCoyoteConnector=true</jvm-options>

  • No response from Sun Application Server PE 8.2

    Hi all,
    I am using Sun Application Server PE 8.2 on windows XP service pack 2 professional edition, and jdk 1.4.1_01.
    The problem I am facing is that the server is not responding, even though it is listening at the respective ports(4848 for admin, 8080 for http..etc) as I can see 'netstat' command.
    I have checked the server logs and it shows the following output :-
    [#|2006-08-23T13:38:13.890+0530|WARNING|sun-appserver-pe8.2|javax.enterprise.tools.launcher|_ThreadID=10;|LAUNCHER005:Spaces in your PATH have been detected. The PATH must be consistently formated (e.g. C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.5.0\bin; ) or the Appserver may not be able to start and/or stop.  Mixed quoted spaces in your PATH can cause problems, so the launcher will remove all double quotes before invoking the process. The most reliable solution would be to remove all spaces from your path before starting the Appservers components.  |#]

  • Creating connection pool on Sun Application Server 8.1

    Hi All,
    I am trying to create a connection pool for my MySql database on Sun Application Server(Version 8.1) using 'asadmin'. I am also able to create the connection pool successfully but when i am trying to ping the connection pool, it is giving me the java.net.UnknownHostException. The command I am using for creating the connection pool is as follows:
    create-jdbc-connection-pool user admin password adminadmin host localhost port 4849 datasourceclassname com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optional.MySqlConnectionPoolDataSource restype javax.sql.XADatasource --property User=root:Password=admin:SelectMethod=Cursor:DatabaseName=testdb:serverName=\"localhost\":portNumber=3306 MyConnectionPool
    My database and the application server are running on the same machine.
    Has anyone come across such a problem? Any help would be highly appriciated.
    Thanks in Advance,
    Anurag.

    hi Anurag,
    Check the properties in the jdbc-connection-pool tag and make sure that the values are populated correctly. You can also try specifying the actual hostname or IP address of the machine instead of localhost and see if that works.
    Cheers,
    Vasanth

  • JBoss 4 to Sun Application Server...where to start

    Hi there...
    I'm charged with making sure my company's product, which has mostly been running on JBoss, works w/ Sun Application Server.
    I've been trying to use the Migration Tool with poor results...I know some of it is because it's for JBoss 3 and not 4....
    giving it the entire .EAR for our product tells me that it doesn't handle webservices...diving into the EAR's JAR containing our services and removing webservices.xml gives the same result of various permutations of putting in source code / xml leads , namely it runs and then freezes with
    DefaultValidationEventHandler: [FATAL_ERROR]: Premature end of file.
    Location:
    DefaultValidationEventHandler: [ERROR]: Unexpected element {}:ejb-local-ref
    Location:
    back on the console I launched the UI from
    To possibly oversimplify, I copied out some of the most relevant .xml we have,
    ejb-jar.xml
    jboss.xml
    jbosscmp-jdbc.xml
    jboss-web.xml
    web.xml
    and put them in a single directory...now the Migration tool runs, leaves most of the files unchanged, and for our ejb-jar.xml it fails, and says
    Unknown error.
    EjbJar is Null
    Admittedly our ejb-jar.xml is handcrafted and maybe suspect, but still.
    So I guess right now I'm not too optimistic about this tool.
    Some of the problem is my understanding of what all goes in an EAR in terms of DD is weak. I'm trying to smarten up, but haven't found a good description of "these are the typical DD files for Sun Application Server", with examples or precise descriptions of the contents...and the migration tool doesn't get to the point where it's making some of the files i expected based on
    http://java.sun.com/j2ee/tools/migration/doc/JBOSS3.0_S1AS7.html
    (for example sun-cmp-mappings.xml doesn't appear anywhere in the AppServer\docs directory... )
    Any pointers or advice appreciated...

    There is an article, while it is for Application Server 7, it still could be useful:
    http://developers.sun.com/prodtech/javatools/jsenterprise/reference/docs/jse7/jse7_jboss_plugin.html
