Is anybody aware of whether the server will work on
Linux Fedora Core 5 or other Fedora Core versionsWhether it works or not is beside the point. Fedora Core is not a supported platform for Sun Calendar so if you did run into problems in the future and need Sun support assistance you would be told in no uncertain terms to go-away. This would be no different to attempting to run the calendar software on OpenSolaris.
Save yourself heartache and use either Solaris 10 x86 or Redhat AS/ES 3.0/4.0 instead (I'm personally biased towards the Solaris 10 side of things).

  • Sun Calendar Server as a master calendar

    Greetings!
We currently use the Sun Java System Calendar Server for student, faculty & staff personal calendars (via the web client) and use a separate in-house system for our web-based master events calendar. The latter is starting to show its age, so we are looking at ways of either updating it to make it more flexibile or to move to a different solution.
As we already own the Sun Calendar Server, we were wondering what the feasibility of using it as a master calendar would be. Have any of you used it this way, and if so, would you mind sharing your experiences with me?
Also, are there any tools already developed to do so? I have done some experimentation with the APIs and the XML generated from the calendar with some success, but would rather not reinvent the proverbial wheel.
    Thanks,
    Eric

The university I work at is also looking into this as well. We are seeking to have a public calendar that different people/accounts can post public events and meetings.
I am currently investigating if this can be done with the Sun Calendar Server. The notion of a 'layered' calendar comes to mind, but am not sure if this is possible with the Sun Calendar.
I'll share what I find If I have the chance.
    thanks..

  • Degrading sun calendar server

    Hi,
I have upgraded the Calendar server from 6.2 to 6.3 on their solaris system. but now admin has informed that we need to degrade it to 6.2
I know its not possible with sun calendar. Any thoughts
Please see http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite6U1/Calendar+Server+6.3+Release+Notes; the cstool application has been removed.

I know its not possible with sun calendar.Correct. Upgrading from CS6.2 to CS6.3 upgrades the database version. That process cannot be reversed. The only way to downgrade and retain the data would be to export the calendar databases to a flat-text file in CS6.3 and re-import into the CS6.2 system. I've provided steps on this process here:
    http://forums.sun.com/thread.jspa?threadID=5259793
The other method would be to csexport all of the user/resource calendars from the CS6.3 database and then csimport them back into the CS6.2 system.
I doubt either method has been tried before by customers so there is a high probability that you will hit problems.
Please see http://wikis.sun.com/display/CommSuite6U1/Calendar+Server+6.3+Release+Notes; the cstool application has been removed.
Why is the cstool utility essential for the customer?

  • Getting Sun Calendar (csconfigurator.sh/comm_dssetup.pl) - my LDAP server

I currently am trying to install a Sun Calendar server on a CentOS4
machine which has working kerberos/ldap server access. Unfortunately
when I try to run the csconfigurator script, despite correct entries
and connections verified through 'ldapsearch' on a command line, I
receive a protocol error #2 when csconfigurator tries to verify the
    connection to the LDAP server.
I am using openldap on a ubuntu instance for the kerberos/ldap server,
I believe that it is using v3 of LDAP. Is there anything in
particular I need to know about how Calendar wants to access LDAP? I
know that I saw a lot of documentation referring to Sun's Directory
Server; all of the documentation that I dug up on this gave me the
impression that it was just a standard LDAP server, thus leading me to
believe that my current LDAP server should work alright.
I would appreciate any pointers in the right direction or tips, and
I'm certainly able to cut 'n paste any information that would be
applicable to this issue. I really need to try to get this calendar
server online as fast as possible, but the documentation that I've
found seems to gloss over some of the areas where I'm having issues.
    Thanks for your time!
    -Damon Getsman

You didn't mention which LDAP server you are using, however, JCS is really designed to work with Sun Directory Server.
That isn't to say that one could not run JCS against OpenLDAP, etc but you would need to potentially modify the schema files that are part of comm_dssetup.pl
The JCS 5 release notes contain product requirements:
The sequence is to install LDAP (nominally Sun DSEE), run comm_dssetup.pl, and then install Calendar Server against your LDAP instance.

  • Sun's Calendar Server

    Hello,
For the Sun Calendar Server out there, this is to announce that I posted the first alpha release of a iSync application able to synchronize Apple's iCal with Sun's Calendar Server.
Binaries, source code and screenshots are available at SourceForge :
    http://www.sourceforge.net/projects/jscalendarsync
    - and -
    http://web.mac.com/sebsto/iWeb/projects/JSCalendarSync.html
This is work in progress, so be carefull if you test it.
This is an open-source project, don't hesitate to help
    Happy hacking
    Seb

That rocks dude! I'm going to have to check this out!
    Thanks,

  • Can I upgrade calendar server 6.0 to 2005Q4

    Hi,
IHAC, who uses Sun Calendar Server 6.0 -
    1. Can we upgrade to the latest 2005Q4 (on the same host) or
    2. Can we export the required data/configuration and import it to the new server with 2005Q5 installed
In both the cases, we will be using the DS 5.2p4 in schema I
    Regards,
    Deepak

    Hi,
IHAC, who uses Sun Calendar Server 6.0 -What version exactly? Calendar server 6 covers a wide
    range of versions.We have
Sun Calendar Server V6.0 (Rev. 2003.11.14.18.12.58)
    >
    1. Can we upgrade to the latest 2005Q4 (on the same
    host) or
Depends on the exact version you are coming from. I
suggest you read the manuals with regards to upgrades
    for calendar server.
    http://docs.sun.com/source/819-2331/calendarSvr.html
    2. Can we export the required data/configurationand
import it to the new server with 2005Q5 installed I don't see why not. Of course you would need to test
this thoroughly. I am assuming of course that the
'new server' is the same platform (sparc->sparc or
x86->x86). This is usually the safest approach since
you can test this prior to running the production
    migration.It will be Sparc-Sparc
    >
In both the cases, we will be using the DS 5.2p4in
schema I Shouldn't be an issue.

  • Calendar Server Virtual Domains Free Busy - Access Denied

    Version 6.3-11.01
I cannot get free busy to work with any domains but the default domain for the life of me.
The LDAP searches are going through and appear to be returning the correct values however on virtual domain calendars the following is returned:
    PRODID:-//Sun/Calendar Server//EN
    METHOD:PUBLISH
    VERSION:2.0
    X-NSCP-WCAP-ERRNO:28
    END:VCALENDAR
I looked at the aces for the calendars in question:
    Returns Free busy:
    @@o^a^r^g;@@o^c^wdeic^g;@^a^sf^g;@^c^^g;@^p^r^g
    Does Not return Free busy:
    @@o^a^r^g;@@o^c^wdeic^g;@^a^sf^g;@^c^^g;@^p^r^g
I have tried enabling and disabling anonymous calendar access to no avail.
Is there a bug in this version that prevents the return of the free busy information?

Is this free-busy across domains i.e. [email protected] attempting to see free-busy information for [email protected] or inter-domain searches?
Inter-domain searches, or non logged in anonymous searches.
What client are you using to check free-busy information (Calendar Express, UWC/CE, Convergence, Thunderbird + Lightning Plugin) and what version are you running?
I am attempting to get it to work with the outlook 2007 plugin version: 7.3-05.01
    Simply using the following:
    curl http://hostname:3080/get_freebusy.wcap?mail=user@defaultdomain&fmt-out=text/calendar&noxtokens=1
    Returns free busy
With hosted users I receive the access denied error. In outlook I receive an error: An error occurred reading Internet free/busy data. General Failure.
Does outlook require anonymous access to a calendar domain be enabled for get_freebusy?
    >
You also need to check the icsExtendedDomainPrefs: attribute for the domain:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4437/6n6jckqsu?a=view
I have tried using this to enable anonymous access to no avail.
    Thank you for your help!

  • Question about Sun Java Calendar Server 7

    You downloadable forum, at [http://www.sun.com/software/products/calendar_srvr/get_it.jsp|http://www.sun.com/software/products/calendar_srvr/get_it.jsp],
    leaves one with two questions.
-What databases are needed/supported by this MessageBoard System for backend storage?
-What are the licensing details? May the MessageBoard/Communications Suite 7
be installed and used in a commercial environment, free?
-May Sun Java Calendar Server 7 be downloaded without the Communications suite?
-Can it be run off an Apache Tomcat Server with J2SE,J2EE codebases?

Although... at the top of this forum it says
This is a forum for new Java developers to get acquainted with the technologies and tools associated with the Java Platform. It doesn't actually say anything about programming, not there nor in what follows. So it isn't surprising that the OP thought this was a suitable forum to ask about that server, which looks as if it might be a "tool associated with the Java platform".

  • Connect JUST Outlook Calendar to Sun Java System Calendar Server

Is it possible to connect JUST the Outlook Calendar to a Sun Java System Calendar Server, using Sun Java System Connector for Microsoft Outlook 6.0?
Leaving all other outlook functionality hooked up to exchange?
    Hal.

    Hi,
Being disconnected straight away after authenticating to an MMP doesn't sound very healthy.
Has the MMP worked in the past - can you connect to the MMP with another email client such as Mozilla Thunderbird and collect your email?
Is the MMP AService.rc process crashing/core dumping?
What does the MMP IMAP log tell you/have you tried increasing the logging level and connecting again?

  • Sun Java System Calendar Server 6 "cshttpd" crash problem

I have a Calendar account that crashes the "cshttpd" process every time they
login to add invites to their Calendar. I've done a ."/csdb -v -f -g rebuild" and that didn't fix the problem, and it doesn't show that there are any database errors. I can
log into other Calendar accounts with no problem. You can log into this account
but once the users tries to add the invites it crashes the "cshttpd" process.
I've patch the Calendar Server 6 with the latest patches so everything is up to date with the latest version.
    Any Solutions?

When rebuilding the database, can I make sure that you are coping over the rebuilt db back into the production csdb directory?
Also, is it just the one user that causing the crash, do other users work and use the calendar server fine?
Have you tried performing the dump and reload procedure mentioned in the admin guide:
    http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2433/6n4nlfjum?a=view
NOTE: You may want to first perform a db_verify on each db as follows:
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50alarms.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50calprops.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50events.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50gse.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50journals.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50recurring.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> ics50todos.db
    ./db_verify -h <path to production db> -o ics50deletelog.db
Note: The deletelog db needs to be ran with the -o option. Also you should run the db_* commands as the calendar server runtime user id.

  • Calendar Server 6.0 2004Q2 and Sun One Synchronization 1.1

    Hello,
we have a problem with Calendar Server 6.0 2004Q2 and Sun One Synchronization running with a Palm. The connection from the sync tool to calendar server works, but we cannot select one calendar of the user. With Calendar Server 6 2003Q4 ist worked well. Is there something changed in wcap in the new version? Does anybody know how to solve that problem?
    Yours,
    Angela

    Hello,
I confirm that I have the same problem with that version (CS 6.0 2004Q2). I cannot select any calendar and It looks like only the default calendar is synchronized. It used to work with the previous version, though.
We have an application that uses WCAP commands. It works perfectly with both versions.

  • Calendar server and address book server login fails with outlook connector

    Hi all,
I have installed Java Communication Suite 5 according to the doc http://blogs.sun.com/factotum/resource/comms5-install-linux.html.
When i deploy the connector i get the pop ups saying "Server:servername:3080
    Error:service not available" also
    "Server:servername:80/uwc"
    Error:service not available"
asking to login to calendar server and address book server.Clicking "OK" allows install.
In outlook i can send and receive mails but not the meeting requests. It gives the error "login to calendar server" when i create a meeting request.
Please let me know what i have to do to get rid of the error. The username and passwd entered is correct.
    Regards,
    lmeenakshy

    Hi,
When i deploy the connector i get the pop ups saying
    "Server:servername:3080
Error:service not available" also Do you get exactly what you say above, or have you substituted in the real server name for "Server:servername:" above?
I would check through the outlook connector deployment configuration to verify that you have inserted valid information into all of the host & port fields - perhaps check the .ini file that is created to see if it has "Server" and "servername" listed.
    "Server:servername:80/uwc"
Error:service not available"You are able to log into UWC via the web-interface and access your calendar/pab and edit/modify/delete calendar & addressbook entries right? The services are all up?
asking to login to calendar server and address book
server.Clicking "OK" allows install. The outlook connector deployment software gives you the option to increase the logging level, try that and see what the logs say - what was it trying to connect to/check which failed.
In outlook i can send and receive mails but not the
meeting requests. It gives the error "login to
calendar server" when i create a meeting request.
Please let me know what i have to do to get rid of
the error. The username and passwd entered is
correct.I suspect this is more of an underlying configuration issue that needs to be sorted out, once that happens you shouldn't have to keep logging in.
