Sun certified Enterprise Architect, is it still up to date

I am planning to take this exam, but just want to know is this exam up to date.
Meaning the skill set tested in this exam is the most wanted in market? It still test the EJB skill, seems like there are some alternative to this, like JDO...

The Architect Exam tests your Architectural Skills not necessarily an EJB Skills...it emphasizes how well can you design a system using appropriate patterns and resources (here the resources would mean the Java Components). Yes,,,you might want to include Hibernate, JDO as the components, if in your Architectural INtelliegence you feel that they would suffice the business requirments. However, there should be enough justification for that

  • Sun Certified Enterprise Architect - Part 2 Exam

    Hello,
What are we expected to submit to Sun to pass SCEA Part 2.
Are we just required to send the UML diagrams or we are expected to send them database schema, SQL Stmts ? Are we expected to send them some skeleton classes ?
    Any help is greatly apreciated.

part of the exam requirements are to think for yourself, so think for yourself and actually read those requirements.

  • Sun Certified Web Component Developer for the Java Platform, Enterprise Edi

I would like to take up the exam "Sun Certified Web Component Developer for the Java Platform, Enterprise Edition 5". Could you please suggest me the right book for it?
Does this one helps? ----Head first servlets and jsp
Whihc version I have to choose?

That book is a very decent start, but it does not cover everything you need to know. I would also get "core servlets 2nd edition", which you can download for free here:
    http://pdf.coreservlets.com
I would skim these two books to see which topics they cover, then check it against the list of requirements you will find on this page:
    http://www.sun.com/training/catalog/courses/CX-310-083.xml
to see what you are missing.

  • Certified Associate SAP Enterprise Architect

Could anyone certified on 'Certified Associate SAP Enterprise Architect' give some guidelines to prepare for the exam?  Would be great if you can share your experience on writing this exam.

I was able to clear this exam few months back . I have seen many people asking about this certification. There is so much to share in terms of experience, but here i would like to highlight few things:
First of all read through this exam and preparation courses here : [http://www12.sap.com/services/education/certification/certificationrole.epx?context=%5b%5bROLE_C_SOA_CER%5d%5d%7c]
This is neither an typical technical exam nor an functional domain specifc course. This mainly is about big SOA engagements in an organisation. Following are major areas of exam:
    Concepts:
SOA history, the SOA overview, journey of SOA so far within SAP, how SAP has adopted SOA model in its practices and many more conceptual points in and around SOA.
    SOA Engagement:
In SOA 200 course you will find different phases illustrating how should SOA transformation happen in any company based on several conditions. This also includes what is the best practice to convert an traditional running software enviornment to SOA oriented enviornment.
    SOA Governance :
How to get engaged in effective SOA cycle and what rules/templates to follow.
Apart from concepts there are courses for real time studies on Provisioning and Consumption sides of SAP SOA.
Related to this you also need knowledge of SAP netweaver tools and how do these tools help in provisioning and consumption and in overall SOA practices.
In general, this is first level course for a person who wants to be an Enterprise Archictect. But I feel there would be a long way to go after this for anyone to become an SOA EA. This course forms a basis of understanding about the buzz word SOA and related scnearios. But a practical engagement is then necessary to move in the direction of an EA.
I think we are(should be) not allowed to come up with the question paper, but I can give you some hints on the pattern asked in this certification:
The questions are arranged mostly as per the chapters of different courses - SOA100, 200, 110 and Netweaver.
If you read whole SOA 200 it is easier to clear the certification exam because SOA 200 is the important part of whole learning. The major focus is on Introduction chapters of SOA and several definitions besides different phases (view/matrices/templates).
Netweaver topics are huge and it is not possible for anyone to cover all the stacks of Netweaver like PI, MDM, BI, Composition via CAF/CE..
which means that there can be some technical questions which will not be possible to answer unless you have worked on that area throughly. So its better to go with best knowledge on these topics before appearing in the exam or just leave on your luck otherwise ).
SOA100 is very interesting in reading and for understanding as well. The questions are very easy also to answer in this area.
I would say this course should be more considered as interesting learning and its not safe to leave any topic or chapter among these courses for exam as all the courses contribute to questions in the exam.
    Hope it helps .

  • Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD)

The Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD) certification targets information regarding Java components related to distributed applications, specifically Enterprise Java Beans (EJBs). To achieve this certification, the candidate must pass a computer-based test available world-wide at Prometric test centers.
SCBCD 1.4 exam covers Java2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) version 1.3 code, including EJB version 2.0.
As of 2008, the SCBCD covers the Java2 Enterprise Edition (J2EE) version 5 code, corresponding to EJB version 3.0.
The pre-requisite for this certification is that the candidate should be a Sun Certified Programmer for Java 2 Platform (any edition).
SCBCD for J2EE version 1.3 is now no longer offered (starting February 2008). However, the upgrade exam from SCBCD for J2EE version 1.3 to J2EE version 5 is still available.
310-090:Sun Certified Business Component Developer for J2EE1.3
    It comes from blog.killtest.com

    Team,
#1: I understand that this is Sun's Training / learning / Certification forum, which I believe is a good place to ask such a question. I believe the answer would be beneficial to a few more people than me.
    #2
I do understand the true nature of the examine. Application Design, Patterns, UML - an Architects view of a project. But the test requirements also states a few item that differ in EJB 3.0 over EJB 1.1, 2.0, 2.1 - for instance::
    Section 4: Enterprise JavaBeans Technology
    * List the required classes/interfaces that must be provided for an EJB technology.
    * Distinguish Session and Entity beans.
    * Recognize appropriate uses for Entity, Stateful Session, and Stateless Session beans.
    * State benefits and costs of Container Managed Persistence.
    * State the transactional behavior in a given scenario for an enterprise bean method with a specified transactional deployment descriptor.
    * Identify costs and benefits of using an intermediate data-access object between an entity bean and the data resource.
Section 5: Enterprise JavaBeans Container Model
    * Explain how the EJB container does lifecycle management and has the capability to increase scalability.
I have recently passed the Sun Certified Business Component Developer (SCBCD), and work in an EJB 3.0 environment. I wish to the certification to reflect the current technology.
If there is someone more appropriate to ask or place to ask, please direct me to the resource. Thank you.

  • NI Certified LabVIEW ARCHITECT, NI Week Winner, Author of the LabHSM Toolkit

Thank you for your interest. I already posted here, but since the header of the original said "Certified Developer" and I am a Certified ARCHITECT now, I decided to post again.
If you need a LabVIEW developer, you will find that my resume which is attached, outlines why I am an excellent fit for a position with your company.
In addition to my broad educational background including two Masters Degrees in Electrical Engineering and Physics, numerous Computer Science courses taken, and twelve years of diverse experience in programming, system administration, and support, I am a National Instruments Certified LabVIEW ARCHITECT. As you can see on the National Instruments website, there are only about 50 people worldwide who were granted this title. I have a history of numerous successful projects in the areas of industrial automation, control and data acquisition. In particular, I have implemented several LabVIEW test systems projects including the following:
    - Real-Time Natural Gas Mixtures Characterization System, based on near infrared absorption spectroscopic data for Gas Technology Institute;
    - Real-Time Electron Beam Doses Monitoring, Beam Parameters Measurement, and Ion Charge Measurement Systems for Steris Corporation (NI WEEK 2003 BEST APPLICATION CONTEST WINNER in R&D/Lab Automation Category);
    - Control and Data Acquisition Program for an Electron Spectrometer System in the Western Michigan University Accelerator Laboratory;
    - LIMS II (Temperature Test), Surge Test Automation, Locked Rotor Test, Variable Ambient Chamber Control and Data Acquisition systems for Underwriters Laboratories (UL);
    - Abrasion Wear Test for Caterpillar;
    - Distributed Data Acquisition and Reporting System for Hydraulic Spray Nozzles Testing for Spraying Systems Co.
It was me who created LabHSM (http://labhsm.com), a toolkit for advanced event-driven development in LabVIEW. It allows creating complex applications as a collection of active object type components that have uniform structure, but different purposes. Each component runs independently providing services to other components and exchanging data via standardized queued messages. The resulting code has the same structure and looks similar regardless of specific functionality. It is easily readable and modifiable by developers other than the author. LabHSM implements the powerful paradigm of hierarchical state machines (Harel/UML statecharts) and has a separate specialized editor for defining component behavior on a higher level of abstraction.
I also have done several projects involving HMI, digital I/O, motion control, communication between a PC and PLC's, using Visual Basic, Think & Do, Steeplechase and other software tools.
My experience and background enable me to master any software development tool quickly, making me a perfect candidate who can always keep up with the ever-changing world of computer technologies.
I am looking forward to discussing this opportunity with you.
    Sincerely,
    Stanislav Rumega, CLA

An update: I am still in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, USA. The current client ran out of projects for me,
so I am ACTIVELY looking now. An updated resume is attached. If you are in US and any farther from me than Chicago, relocation assistance is highly desired.
    Again,
I am so fed up with US immigration "process" (almost NINE years here LEGALLY and green card is nowhere in sight!) that would SERIOUSLY consider UK, Australia, Canada, EU if somebody is SERIOUSLY willing
to help with the papers and relocation.
    An updated resume is attached.
    Recent achievements:
    1. A couple of test stands  for testing  high voltage (15kV, 27kv, 38kV)  high current (up to 100A) reclosers. Those devices are used by electrical utilities companies. They are made by Cooper Power Systems. It's sort of a big three phase breaker but with the brains - it's own computer. Very sophisticated device. It is programmed at which currents and for how long to wait before opening the circuit, when and how many times to try to close it again before locking out, etc. See http://cooperpower.com/Products/Distribution/Reclosers/ for more info on.
2.Updated the David Boyd's famous Tunnel Wiring Wizard to make it work with LV 8. See LAVA forums: http://forums.lavag.org/index.php?s=&showtopic=211&view=findpost&p=9207
    3. Created a Property and Method Selection (PMS :-)) Assistant to simplify access to undocumented (private) properties and methods in LabVIEW 7 through 8 - very useful for anybody experimenting with VI Scriping features. Again, see it on VI Scripting LAVA forum:

  • Does sun certified programmer really matter?

Hi,all. i am a first year uni student in Australia, currently doing B.Comp.Sci. i am just wondering how the importance would be while seeking for programmer job, if i'm a sun certified programmer. i just couldnt really make up my mind whether to spending time on passing the certified programmer test or i'd better put my efforts on improving my programming skill and extending all sorts of computing knowledges. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

'A few' meaning some, not all. I do know a guy who
just got his certification purely to get his foot in
the door of a company, who was very very good. My
arguement is that the exam does not indicate a
excellent programmer. As you for discouraging someone
from finishing University, where did that come from?
or are you simply plaing devils advocate?Ok, I was unnecessarily harsh. I've seen a lot of postings in this forum knocking the Certification process and discouraging people from following it. These seem to be posted by people who have not been through the exams and are commenting based on either a limited sample or a perception about certifications in general.
I have been through the process, with Java & other technologies, and also believe that in the main it is pointless. However, I think that I'm commenting with some authority having actually seen the questions asked and undergone the 'learning-experience' of the process.
The point about the degree was that when I first came into IT, as a fresh-faced graduate, it was still relatively uncommon for developers to have a degree of any sorts, let alone in a related subject. Most had learnt 'on-the-job'. They would take every opportunity to make the point that they'd met 'Grads' before & that they'd always turned out to be crap.
POINT: I've met certified programmers that are crap. Not all certified programmers are crap. I've met graduates who couldn't find their arse with both hands. Not all graduates are muppets.
CONFESSION: I think that I may be subconciously looking for a fight today. Must locate the Lithium soon.

  • Off topic: Substitutes for "Enterprise Architect" on Linux?

I really like Enterprise Architect, but don't really relish installing Crossover Office and the 1001 Abominations that are required to support EA under Linux - yet I'm mostly developing in a Linux environment these days.
Can anyone recommend a Linux-compatible product - free or commercial - that's in the same league as EA, particularly for building ER diagrams?
I know this isn't technically a Java question, but perhaps there's a Java based product that fits the bill.

    dcminter wrote:
I can always get by with a notepad and a fountain pen; I tended to use EA for its reverse engineering capabilities; I worked on one project where the project managers insisted we document the whole system by using Together to reverse engineer class diagrams and sequence diagrams from the Java code using Together. The class diagrams were not bad bu the sequence diagrams had so much irrelevant detail that they were unusable.
the ER diagrams made good aides memoires, made it easy to spot silly mistakes in the DB design, and are great for communicating about the DB design, but I rarely use them up front.I don't do much complex BD design - I rely on people who know what they are doing.

I think Canonical's the best thing that's happened to Linux (even if it does keep reverting my Java config to GCJ (spit) for its own mysterious reasons). I've used various flavours of Linux for years, but gave it up on the desktop because it was too painful to maintain. Finally it's become easier to manage a Linux desktop than a Microsoft one!
It'll be really interesting to see if people start porting these significant developer applications to Linux, or if decent dedicated replacements will spring up to replace them - or if this is just a blip before Linux gets trampled by its commercial rivals.I would like to change my Wife's computer from Windows XP to Ubuntu but I don't think it's quite there yet. Very close but still a little way to go.
