Sun Desktop Access Client - Language Settings Windows Logon Screen

Dear All,
i have a little problem with the language setting of my Sun Desktop Acces Client if i try to connect to Windws 2003 Server.
First some configuration details:
PC:
Win XP (german version)
keyboard layout: german
Sun Desktop Access Client 1.0
Server:
Win 2003 Server (german version)
The Problem is that if connect the server via the SDAC the laguage setting of the logon screen has changed to EN
instead of DE. Using a german keyboard layout causes some trouble.
If i connect to the server via a sun ray dtu (kiosk mode) it works properly.
Has anybody a clue to get rid of this??
Thanks in advance.
Best regards
Ha-Pe

Okay, after a bit of investigation...
You can't have the locale used change automatically according to the local used on the client, the best you can do is assign a default locale for most users and create alternative kiosk sessions with different locales (as a uttsc option) which you can assign to DTUs or SDACs (or to smartcard token ids but SDAC doesn't currently support smartcards).
At least this is what I understand, I'm sure someone will comment if this isn't the case.
If this is good enough you can do this using the utkiosk and the utkioskoverride commands.

    Tnx!!
Small, but important changes: now working with Cisco ASA 5500 VPN (no more downgrade to 4.0 f/w version), working great with a static IP (no VPN phase 2 hang). For now new firmware connecting throw VPN to corporate SRSS 4.1 without any problem.
Keep testing with OSol 2009.06 (2010.02 /dev). Next step - check new (and VERY VERY important) USB redirection features! Next step - testing within (officially supported) Solaris 10 5/09 - any way, its not so interesting. If it is interesting to somebody and not prohibited by EA Program rules - i'll keep blogging about all-around-new-sunray-software :)
    Again, thank you!

    Hi Kenneth,
Here for your case suggest you to configure RDP session time limit so that your user can disconnect\log off once the specific time limit reached.
You can setup the session time limit in different method.
    1. Open the Server Manager, select Remote Desktop Services.
    2. In Remote desktop Services, in right side you can drop down to collections.
    3. Select the collection which you want to edit the settings.
    4. Under collections Properties, select Task and then Edit Properties.
    5. In Properties dialog box, select Session.
    6. You can find all thetimeout settings under session collection properties; edit according to your requirements and then OK.
And apart also by group policy setting as below.
    Computer Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits
    User Configuration\Policies\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Remote Desktop Services\Remote Desktop Session Host\Session Time Limits
    -  Set time limit for disconnected sessions
    -  Set time limit for active but idle Remote Desktop Services sessions
    -  Set time limit for active Remote Desktop Services sessions
    -  End session when time limits are reached
Please check which setting suitable for your environment and you can apply for your case.

  • Enabling remote desktop access to a simple windows 2012 datacenter edition server

    Hi,
I am a complete noob to server administration. I installed a windows 2012 server initially as a workgroup. All i need is to enable a user to remotely access my server(using remote desktop). The firewall that I use is Gibraltar.
I read that to enable remote desktop services my server has to be part of a domain. So i promoted my server to a domain name controller. Using active directoty I added a user to the domain. I also read that to make remote desktop more secure, I have to request
the user to login through a VPN.
Now here is where I am completely lost. Do i really need to move my server to a domain, if the user just wants access to this server and nothing else? Should i restrict remote desktop access only through VPN
and if so, how can i do that? Further, the server dashboard gives me notifications about 'remote desktop licensing' not configured. We got the software as a campus licensing and I am not sure how to configure the remote license server. Any opinions are highly
    appreciated.

If you're just trying to setup this to allow administration access then I don't believe you need it to be a member of a domain. There's a difference between allowing remote desktop access for administration, and setting up full terminal services access for
multiple users. The latter requires a lot more work and licensing unlike the former.
To simply allow admin access, open an explorer window and right click on Computer, then select properties. In the System window that appears, click Remote settings on the left. Now in the bottom half of the window select "Allow remote connections to this
computer" and leave the option requiring NLA in place. Click Select Users..., you'll see that the administrator user already has permissions to connect, so if you're only planning to connect with that then you're finished, otherwise find those users you
    want to grant access.

  • Windows Server 2012 - Direct Access clients and the Windows 8 firewall

    Hi,
We're running a simple proof-of-concept for Server 2012 Direct Access, we have a single DA server behind a firewall using NAT. We have a number of client devices setup for DA and running Windows 8.
Our issue is that we can only get the Windows 8 direct access clients to connect (when outside the corporate network) and work with the windows firewall disabled (public network profile).
With the windows firewall disabled everything works exactly as expected. When outside the corporate network the client detects the network state (public network profile), connects via DA and all internal resources can be accessed successfully...fantastic.
Is there some specific guidance on manually configuring the windows 8 firewall for Direct Access ? We've tried the obvious TCP:443 with edge traversal enabled but without success.
Much of the information we have found relates to UAG rather than Windows 2012 DA.
    Any assistance is appreciated.

    Hi,
There isn’t any specific configuration on the firewall.
Just confirm that port 443 can be forwarded to DirectAccess server.
Of course, make sure you are using IPsec first.

  • Add users to Windows logon screen (server 2008 R2)

    Hello
Our one server was setup to display 3 user names in the logon screen, vs just the username / domain options to fill out.
The settings have been blown away somehow, and i need to re-add a few users to the logon screen.
I have tried the suggestions with no luck. Most sites recommend Interactive Logon: Do not display last user name gpo
setting. This did not work for me.
    Any help would be appreciated.
    Thanks

    Hi Giermo,
Please try to modify the regeistry to achieve this, please also note Always make a backup of the Windows Registry before you modify any settings:
    Open regedit
    Press Windows+R
    Type regedit + enter
    Navigate to [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\ProfileList]
You will probably want to right-click on “ProfileList” and click export to save the entire subtree in case something goes wrong.
You will find several subfolders or “keys” named something like “S-1-x-xx…”, open them one at the time
Each should contain at least the three value-sets, “Flags”, “ProfileImagePath” and “State”, some will contain more
Look at the end of ProfileImagePath for the name of the user represented by the key
You will usually have one for each user on the system, and one for each of the three system entries ‘systemprofile’, ‘LocalService’ and ’NetworkService’
Delete any key (i.e. the whole “S-1-x-xx” folder) that does not contain at least those three values. Also delete any empty key named default.

  • Not getting windows logon screen

    HP 4530s Win 7 64 bit
Still dealing with the keyboard problems. After changing 3 keyboards, with 3 Case#'s, was told problem is probably in the software and before they would proceed I needed to return the system to the defaults (system restore from F11), disregarding my system image and if keyboard problem persists, then they will do something. I knew this was going to be a gigantic headache requiring many hours to get everthing back. Used Windows Easy Transfer to save user stuff and restore it after. Was right about many hours. After about 6 hours I have most of my stuff back, but will need several more hours to get things into correct folders etc. At present, my biggest problem is that instead of getting the Windows logon I get a HP logon that is similar in function to being in Safe Mode. It is a white screen and the cursor is large and moves jerkily. There are 2 circles in the center that appear to have a finger print in one, not sure of the other. In the upper left is a button for PASSWORD and above that Audible Alerts Disabled, F5 to Enable. Above that is the computer name. How do I get rid of this and get the Windows Logon instead?

    Hi Glamorgranny,
First, you may want the sidebar displayed so we can easily see connected devices:
Show Sidebar - Choose View > Show Sidebar (this feature will display iTunes features on the left side of the application including Library, Store, Shared, Genius, and Playlists).
Note: if you do not see the "View" option, turn on the menus by pressing Control-B.
    iTunes 11: Frequently used features
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT5649
Afterwards, your device should be displayed if connected:
After clicking on the device on the left hand side, you should see the Summary page. You can then navigate to the different tabs:
For more information, see this resource:
    iOS: Syncing with iTunes
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1386
If your device is not displayed in the sidebar when connected, see this article:

  • Cannot apply Direct Access Client GPO on Windows 8.1 Enterprise client

Hi, I have made a Direct Access environment on Windows Server 2012 R2 Essential.
All setting seems to be ok, but i'm completely stuck when i have to export the DA client GPO to the client computer.
The client computer is a Win8.1 Enterprise, already joined to the domain.
When execute the command gpupdate /force, it complete successfully but when i do a gpresult /R i have nothing in the "Applied Group Policy Object" field (N/A) while i should have the Default domain GPO and the DA client GPO.
What is wrong at this state ?
    Thanks

My user1 is in the "DirectAccess" group.
In all the tutorial i saw, i have never seen you have to add the computer object to this group but only the user.
Anyway, i have just add it to the group.
From my first post, here is what i did.
ran a Group Policy Result, from the DC to the client.
It give me the error RPC unavailable.
So i open the local policies on the client > Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > Network > Network Connections > Windows Firewall >
Domain Profile > double click on "Windows Firewall: Allow inbound remote administration exception" > tick enable
I reran the Group Policy Results, and it work this time.
Now i have the result for the User1 on TECH2 client pc.
On details pane > Denied GPOs
The DA client setting is deny with the reason "access denied" ...
Now on the client computer after a GPRESULT /R
    Computer settings
    Applied Group Policy Object
    Default Domain Policy
    Local Group Policy
The following GPOs were not applied because they were filtered out
    DirectAccess Client Setting
    Filtering: Denied (Security)
    DirectAccess Server Settings
    Filtering: Denied (Security)  -> normal

  • Sequencing the IBM iSeries Access Client 7.1

    Hey All,
I was wondering if anybody has experience in sequencing the IBM iSeries Access Client 7.1...
We're currently trying to sequence this application under Windows 7 Enterprise (x86) with the App-V4.6 SP1 Sequencer. We've checked the Windows 7 compatibility of this version and it is supported. Every function of the application is working during the monitoring
phase of the sequence process. The main function we're (currently) interested in is the Emulator with the SSL encryption to our AS400 mainframe. This function requires the SSL-option to be installed. We've installed this with the rest of the application during
our sequencing and during the monitoring phase, we're able to connect to the mainframe.
However, when we transfer the finished sequence to a test system, the Emulator pops up with an error message "SSL option is not installed". After some repackaging and investigation, we've managed to eliminate all the file exclusion that occured during our
sequencing process. This includes a lot of "dirt" into the sequence but at least gave us the confidence that everything that was installed by the setup was also included in the Sequence. We've also excluded the Windows CA store as one of the possible causes.
The IBM iSeries Access Client uses it's own SSL encryption methods.
My question to you all is. Has anyone ever succesfully packaged the IBM iSeries Access Client V7R1 on Windows 7 Enterprise and has anyone encountered/solved the issue we're currently facing?
Thanks in advance for your time and effort!
Microsoft Exchange Server enthousiast. "This is your M drive. This is your M drive after a virus scan. Get the picture?" "Friends don't let friends virusscan the M-Drive"

The option installs the ability to use encrypted connections to your AS400 mainframes. The IBM client installs an extra program in %CSIDL_PROGRAM_FILES%\ibm\gsk7.
Unfortunately there's no exclusion in the Sequence that would point to anything crucial. The IBM client creates a folder in the "My Documents" folder which is (ofcourse) excluded from the Sequence. Other then that only the following is excluded:
<MOREINFO DESCRIPTION="The unsupported shell extensions detected are as follows:">
    <ITEM DESCRIPTION="HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\AS400System\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers"/>
    <ITEM DESCRIPTION="HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\AS400System\ShellEx\PropertySheetHandlers"/>
    <ITEM DESCRIPTION="HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Drive\ShellEx\DragDropHandlers"/>
    <ITEM DESCRIPTION="HKLM\SOFTWARE\Classes\Printers\ShellEx\ContextMenuHandlers"/>
But in my oppinion this should not be something that will block the functions of the application itself (since this is drag/drop handler for the seperate file transfer client...)..
But correct me if i'm wrong ofc.

  • Mountain Lion -- buggy logon screen resolution

    Mac OS v10.8.2
Have any of you experinced buggy logon screen resolution?  I have attached some pictures below.  When I wake up my iMac from sleep, a logon screen comes up but from time to time it's gets buggy.
When buggy happens, all I see is my Desktop background, but there is no logon screen.  As I start moving the mouse icon, it begins to erase the desktop background and logon screen appear from behind.  The more I move the mouse, the more I see it.  After I click a username, then enters the password... everything is normal again.  I wonder if this is known issue.
(I have marked out the usernames for my privacy)

    Hello,
To post pics you need to use the tiny Camera icon in a reply to upload them... drag & drop will disappear as soon as you post.
    Resolution
Move the mouse or trackpad cursor over the center area of the login window so you can see the user icons. Click on the icon of the user that you would like to login as, type in the user's password, and press Return.
If the login window is configured to show only the name and password fields, type in the user's name and password into the fields, and press Return (even if you cannot see the rest of the login window).
    Additional Information
This issue will not occur if the display is not sleeping when the account is logged out. Use the steps below to confirm that the account is not configured to log out automatically while the display is sleeping:
Open System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General.  Click the padlock to unlock the preference pane and enter your admin password. Click the Advanced button at the bottom, then see if the option "Log out after N minutes of inactivity" (where N is the number of minutes) is enabled.
Open System Preferences > Energy Saver and configure Display Sleep to occur after the account is logged out, by dragging the slider to a number of minutes that is greater than N was set to in the previous step.
Important: If automatic log out is not needed, disable "Log out after Nminutes of inactivity" in System Preferences > Security & Privacy > General. This will also prevent the issue.

  • Logon Screen - Users now required to click on 'Other User' before entering account info

    Hi all,
we recently deployed a number of updates to the Windows 7 devices on our estate. The updates installed ok but now the Windows logon screen has changed.
Previously: the user pressed ctrl + alt + del and then had to enter their Username and Password
Now: the user presses ctrl + alt + del, the user has to click on the 'Other User' icon and then enter their Username and Password
Can anyone provide any information on why the Other User icon may have suddenly appeared or, more significantly, suggest how it may be disabled? In GPO
Interactive Logon:Do not display last username is set to enabled.
Any help would be much appreciated since i'm stumped.
    Thanks!

Quick update, managed to figure out how to fix this issue:
in GPO; Computer Config > Adm Templates > System > Hide entry points for Fast User Switching (set to
    Enabled)
I still have no idea why the installation of updates caused Fast User Switching to kick in, but hiding the entry points seems to have solved the issue. If anyone has any suggestions as to why the problem manifested itself in the first place, i'm all ears!

  • REMOTE DESKTOP SERVICES CLIENT ACCESS LICENSES FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS SERVER 2012 STANDARD AND DATACENTER

I am using a window 7 professional  service pack 1 and I purchase REMOTE DESKTOP SERVICES CLIENT ACCESS LICENSES FOR MICROSOFT WINDOWS SERVER 2012 STANDARD AND DATACENTER. but  the seller did not send me any installation CD or instruction
    on how to use it.
Please how can I use it on my window 7 professional  service pack 1.
    Thank you.

Though Bill is absolutely correct for most CALs, Remote Desktop Services does have its own special licensing server.  I haven't installed one on 2012, yet, but here is a step-by-step guide for 2008.

Here is a lab guide for 2012 -

But, the explanation of your environment begs the question - what are you trying to do?  You say you have a desktop OS and you are talking about Windows Server products.  In that light, your question does not make a lot of sense.
