Sun E3500 with USB Keyboard?

I've got a Sun E3500 server and have a Neuro-Logic RFT-17 Rackmount LCD Console that only has a USB connection. I know that this rackmount setup is MADE for Sun, as it is actually being sold by Sun. Are there converters to go from the Sun 8-pin layout to USB? Thanks!!

Hello,
you are using a Neuro-Logic RFT-17, which is "just" a LCD display and a keyboard that fits into a rack.
Please don't get me wrong, but did you even thought about contacting Neuro Logic Systems, Inc. ?
http://www.neuro-logic.com/1u.htm
According to their FAQ, two (keyboard) options for Sun are available: USB or 8-pin serial.
http://www.neuro-logic.com/1ufaq.htm#6
The User's manual isn't available for download (links returns to the same page !!!), but this is from the data sheet: "USB and Sun Serial connectors".
Using an add-in USB board (are there any for S-Bus ???) won't help to solve the issue. The OBP only supports "standard" Sun keyboards with Mini-DIN connector (this is what NLS calls 8-pin serial).
If the RFT-17 isn't equipped with USB and Mini-DIN keyboard you can take the KVM "route".
Despite the fact that a Sun server doesn't require a directly attached keyboard/monitor, these systems are managed thru network or (serial) console/management port (console server for multiple systems and capturing the console logs), you can extend your installation with an expensive (Sun certified) KVM that offers adapters for USB and Mini-DIN attached keyboards.

  • Sun Type 6 USB keyboard Driver

    Hello,
We're using Exceed to allow PC users to connect to our Sun Blade 150's. Our design engineers want to use the sun keyboards they are used to (Sun Type 6 USB keyboards) including all the sun keys on the left of the keyboard. I'm trying to get a keyboard map built in Exceed to allow this to work but haven't been able to yet. I'm not sure that the PC is seeing any interupts or signals that are generated when the sun keys on the left are punched.
So to summarize, we have Sun Type 6 USB keyboards plugged into PC's. The PC's connect to Blade 150's using Exceed X Windows. The keyboards work fine except the sun keys on the left. I'm trying to get those keys to work.
Anyone tried this? Do I need a windows driver for the Sun keyboard? Anyone know of one?

  • Pm-suspend with usb keyboard

Hi everyone. I have usb keyboard attached to my desktop, and I use pm-hibernate. To make it work I use widely-known solution with SUSPEND_MODULES="ehci_hcd uhci_hcd ohci_hcd usbcore" in /etc/pm/sleep.d. Everything works well except that keyboard layout and repeat rate set in ~/.xinitrc are reset after suspend. Does anyone know how to get xset and setxkbmap called properly on each resume?

Nope.  I was wrong about that.  USBx does not appear to apply to me because no entries of the sort exist in /proc/acpi/wakeup.  Here are the contents of the file.

  • Connecting moog slim phatty with usb keyboard via Logic

Hello. I've just got moog slim phatty. but i dont have a midi keyboard with midi out to connect it to phatty. I have only usb keyboard m-audio oxygen. I've read that i can link them with DAW. So i have opened Logic and phatty and oxygen connected to macbook via usb. So could anyone tell how to make slim phatty receive signals from oxygen?
    Thanks

    Hi Newbie,
Did you use Audio Midi Setup.app to configure your rig? I searched on "midisport uno" at M-Audio and found this document about how to do it:
    http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=e3b32ccf8b9f32387cd32f1ba3635 408
The search turned up some other docs that may be useful, like this one on installing the midisport in Mac OS X:
    http://www.m-audio.com/index.php?do=support.faq&ID=86b0ee2afbf78aecc731133c55ef7 d9a
Evidently, some midisports are plug and play with OS X, some are not. If yours is not, there may be a driver to install and options like buffer sizes to set up.
Hope this is a little help,
    Paul

  • GRUB with USB keyboard

    Hello guys,
I have GNU GRUB as a bootloader on my MSI 845E Max machine. It all works fine, I can boot Windows and Linux with it, but for some kind of reason my USB keyboard won't work in the GRUB menu.
Turning Legacy support on on the USB controller doesn't solve the problem, because it prevents the Linux kernel from booting.
I mailed you guys about half a year ago about this problem, but I got no answer.

  • No boot with USB keyboard

I just got a Neo2-FIS2R which has v1.5 of the AMI BIOS. If I have a USB keyboard plugged in boot freezes at various places. With a PS/2 keyboard there is no problem at all and once in Windows XP the USB device is recognized and is usable.
Doe anyone know if later versions of the BIOS fix this problem as the release notes don't say.
    thanks

    Problem still not fixed...
Finally plucked up the courage to upgrade the BIOS from factory supplied 1.5 to the latest on the MSI site (1.9) and installed latest Intel c/s drivers.  As I've ruined a perfectly good optical drive through attempting to re-flash the firmware I was a little nervous but followed the (non-FAT) instructions on the MSI website & it worked fine.  System kept asking for boot floppy until I fixed the PATA/SATA parameters and XP couldn't see my RAID array for a while but fixed that also.
BIOS still refuses to recognise the keyboard regardless of whether it's plugged into the motherboard USB 2.0 ports or the LG1710's powered USB1.1 ports. I don't have another USB keyboard to hand so I'll live with it for now and use a PS/2 keyboard when I need to play with the BIOS.
Although it's a relatively new product I suspect the keyboard is the problem, it shows up as 2 user interface devices in Windows although I don't know if that is any indication.

  • [K8N NEO3-F] Problem with USB keyboard and PS2 mouse after upgrading BIOS

    Hello everyone!
I have upgraded BIOS from 1.1 to 1.4... I have Sempron 2600 (64bit) so BIOS v.1.1 did not recognise it.
The motherboard works, but after upgrading I have a small problem with my keyboard and mouse.
When I use USB keyboard my PS2 mouse doesn't work. When I connect PS2 keyboard mouse works!!!
Can you tell me what's wrong?
    Thanks, bartull@
PS. Does BIOS v.1.3 recognise Sempron 64bit? Can you give me a link to it?

I think that the problem may have been caused by flashing either with liveupdate or with winflash.  I had the problem when i used winflash correctly (shutting down all programs, checking all the boxes to clear bootblock and cmos) but had usb keyboard connected during flash.  My suggestion is to reflash with floppy to last bios version that worked using only ps2 mouse and keyboard with the following instructions:
DOS floppy flash shall be performed with :
    awfl833d.exe w7030nms.180 /py /sn /wb /cc /cd /cp /f /e
(Replace biosfilename with appropriate version for Neo1/neo2 etc , switches remain the same )
    After flash is complete :
TURN OFF PSU (don't restart) wait 15 seconds
Turn on again , press the power button .
Enter BIOS and load optimized defaults (NO OTHER CHANGES) , save + exit
Boot the system again with the floppy in the drive to let the DMI pool build and update itself .
If that works, then reflash to the bios you tried before with the same procedure.  Once you have stable system with ps2 keyboard and mouse working, re-enter bios and enable usb and keyboard support as a lot of bios' have it disabled by default for some strange reason.
    Good luck.

  • P7N Diamond (still) won't boot with USB Keyboard

Hey everyone, I have my box up and successfully running now, thanks for your help. I have 2 remaining issues. The motherboard will not post with my USB Saitek Eclipse I keyboard plugged in alone, I have to plug in a PS2 to get it through Post, then switch it out.
Also, almost every time I cold boot, I get a message that says, "Operating System Not Found." When I reboot, it works fine.
I've read through previous posts, but nothing seems to directly address my issues. Do you think the keyboard thing is a wait-for-BIOS-updates fix? Has anyone else successfully booted with a USB Keyboard on a P7N?

The only time I had an "OS not found" error was when bios for some odd reason set first boot priority to the usb port on my dell monitor as well as other usb devices before my boot drive. I changed boot priority and it went away.

  • IMac Won't Boot With USB Keyboard Connected

We have a suite of 10 iMacs (10,1 - 21.5 inch), but one of them will not boot and has issues coming out of sleep while a USB keyboard is plugged in.
Have tried swapping the keyboard with another iMac - the other iMac still boots but the problem iMac continues to play up.
Tried plugging the mouse into the iMac's USB instead of the keyboard's.
    Tried SMC reset, PRAM reset.
Re - imaged the machine from a time machine backup of one of the other iMacs, which made the issue go away for about a month... but then it returned.
Using a magic keyboard is fine as a workaround, but the users need the number pad, and if possible I'd rather fix the issue than buy a clunky separate keypad.
Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be very appreciated!

    Hello strathglass
The same thing can also happen with other connected devices such as external HD's and iPods, the Startup Manager is lost and searching for a boot volume.
    1. You may be able to fix it by going to: *System Preference / Startup Disk* and select the *Mac OS X 10.5.5 on Macintosh HD* then *Click the lock to prevent further changes.*
    2. Leave those devices that cause boot issues disconnected until the iMac is up and running!
    3. Only sleep the iMac, and be sure to disconnect those devices be for shutting down or updates that require a restart!
As a habit, I have always ejected and disconnected all mounted USB devices (flash driver, iPods, cameras, card reader, etc.) from my hub be for sleeping, restarting or shutting down...

  • 975X Platinum PowerUp - PS/2 Mouse wouldn't work with USB Keyboard!!!

I cannot get my PS/2 Mouse move with when USB Keyboard is connected.  Both PS/2 Mouse and Keyboard work fine together. Similarly, both USB Mouse and Keyboard are OK.  Any solution???  Would be grateful for any assistance. Thanks

    Quote from: mike315 on 09-February-07, 23:00:26
I built two 975X PUEs for two different people, finished them about 10 days apart.  They both ran fine for about a week and then on the same day, in two different houses over 25 miles apart they both "lost" all USB devices.  Yes, the USB Controllers still showed just fine in Device Manager but every USB port was dead.
I went to both locations, UNinstalled ALL USB Controllers, let WindowsXP re-boot and re-find all controllers, which it did.  All USB ports went immediately active and have been fine for about two weeks since.  By the way, I didn't unplug or re-plug anything.
I can't prove my theory, but both PCs were set to download WindowsXP updates AUTOMATICALLY and INSTALL them, and both PCs were using Broadband, i.e., "always on".  Tell me I'm crazy, but I think a WindowsXP update knocked out the USB ports.
OK, I'm crazy, but answer me this:  What are the odds that two PCs - in different locations - would experience the SAME exact HARDWARE problem - and no others before or since - at the exact same time?
And, if you Google for USB problems IN GENERAL, you'll find other people experiencing the same thing about the same time, especially if they use WindowsXP BUT do not have Internet Explorer 7 (IE7) installed . . . which was exactly the situation with my two 975x builds.  Also, many of these people identify their recent problems as USB wireless mice problems, which is how both my build PCs were being run.  By the way, IE7 has already been identified as causing driver problems with some hardware, e.g., older model scanners.
Very nice, but that really doesn't answer the topic or helps :P nice story though.

  • No sound with usb keyboard plugged in

    Mac Book Pro 10.7.5
    Logic Pro 9.1.8
I plugged in my M-Audio Keystation Series 88es via USB into my Mac Book Pro. Opened up for a new project. I have two external speakers (Alesis) via USB.
I select the GM device icon in the right panel, and select grand piano to check the audio. I play the keyboard, and I get no sound.
I checked the Audio, and the keyboard is showing up in the drop down. When I play the keys, I can see the numbers in the lower panel on Logic Pro change according to the keys being used; but no sound. How can I correct this, and get sound?
When I plug in gagrage band with this same keyboard, I get sound.

    Pancenter,
Thanks for your input. I have looked at the manual in this section prior to my question, and tried several actions.
In the "core audio" area, the two drop-down menu's (input and output) show "USB Audio Codec." In the large window of pro logic, to the right the "library" tab is highlighted and there are two columns; in the left column I have three icons, GM Device, Other Objects, and USB Keystation 88es, my USB keyboard. When I select the keyboard Icon, in the column to the right sixteen piano icons show up labeled channel 1, channel 2, etc., through 16. Also, a window on the left hand side of the large logic pro window has the USB Keystation 88es identified. Seems as though the system is identifying the keyboard and speakers, yes?
What I did read (before, and again now) in the manual was that, I can optimize settings for core audio hardware by gong to the "audio midi setup utility," (Applications/Utilities/Audio Midi Setup). This is what I have not been able to locate. Is this the right track? Could you help me locate this?

  • Setup with USB keyboard and microphone

I am a novice to Mainstage 3 but I would like to use it to some sound experiments, but I would like to be able to set it up so that I can have input from mye USB keyboard (M-Audio Keystudio) and a microphone (either CADu37 USB-mike or Behringer C-1 XLR). It seems like I need to get an audio interface to be able to do that, but it also seems like most only have the normal MIDI In and Out and not USB. If they have USB they are only USB-powered but no USB-connection in.
I also tried to add aggregate device in the Audio MIDI Setup but didn't get it to work. Maybe it isn't for that, either? Perhaps the keyboard should be connected directly to the computer and not through a USB-hub as it is now?
Anyone has a good tip or advice?

If you cant connect a ps2 keyboard you should RMA that board and fix that port. USB keyboards wont work if USB drivers are not loaded . There may be a work around but none that im aware of.

  • Z77A-G43 cant access BIOS with USB keyboard

    Hello guys,
I`ve been running into a bit of trouble.
It seems that I can no longer access the UEFI / BIOS menu at boot time by means of DEL key.
Even though my USB keyboard is powered and lighten up, the motherboard won`t take input from it. I can`t use ANY of the keys (DEL, Pause, F11 ..) until OS is done booting.
On the other hand, and old PS/2 keyboard apparently works just fine.
Now, I did tried the usual steps for troubleshooting: reset bios, then update to the latest version (2.12) / clear CMOS, etc.
    So far, no luck.
Whats boggles me is that I know FOR SURE that the keyboard used to work some time ago. I mean, it`s  the only one I have and I know I used it to set up the BIOS when I initially put the PC together.
Any further advice will be most welcomed.
    Thanks.

Thats it man, turn it off and it will work. The same happened to me, now I can acces it without any problems.

  • Does Logic Work With USB Keyboard?

if so what ones would you recomend?
also a portable mic, doesnt have to be great quality that can go in the mini jack of a mac book. just for ideas.
    thanks

    Hi Syn,
    The answer is yes.
If your just looking for a basic keyboard to just record onto logic, take a look at the keystation range from M-Audio. Ive had one for a while now and never had a problem. I don't need much else for what im doing.
As for something a bit more advanced i wouldn't know enough to reccommend something. But the Keystation Pro 88 or Axiom range look ok.
On the mic side of things i have a JTC CX-07S Mic.
Nice and cheap and very portable. You will have to get a 1/4 " adaptor for it but it will do the trick.
Hope this gives you a few ideas or at least points you in the right direction.
