Sun Enterprise 250 Server; memory upgrade
Dear Gurus
Please let me know , if we can upgrade E250 memory from 1GB to 2GB and adding 100GB space.
Our hardware vendor is suggesting to replace the server as this is an EOL ( End of Life ) Server and can't upgrade the memory or disk.
Anybody have any clue?
Hello Krishna,
the E250 is extendible upto 2 GB of RAM (16 modules each 128MB). If your system uses 16 modules 64MB each (1GB), all modules must be replaced with 128MB modules.
Even if the higher capacity (73 or 146GB) disks aren't listed in the E250 page of the Sun System Handbook they might work (but won't use the the Ultra160/Ultra320 mode, that means no increased thruput). If the system is under service contract, extending the system with these disks might invalidate the service contract. If the system isn't under service contract talk with the dealer or directly Sun about a trial.
The followup system of the E250 was the Fire V250 (upto 8 internal disks!), which went EOL in 09/05. The current followup is the Fire V240 (only upto 4 internal disks).
Buying or leasing a newer system is more expensive, but offers much higher performance (faster disks and much faster cpus). I would suggest to call Sun, probably you can Trade-In the system.

Hi,
Because I can't ping it and got no response on the console, so I had to reboot the E250 server.
When I reboot SUN E250, I got the following message on the console and then it stops.

Anyone knows what's the problem and how can I fix it?
CheersYou either have a mechanically or electronically failed disk drive or else your Operating System (I an presuming it is Solaris on that SPARC system) is completely mucked up.
If it is the OS at issue, you will need to install everything fresh.
If it is the 18GB disk drive, you will need to replace it and install everything fresh.
Either way, at some point you will have to go get your OS installation media and install everything fresh. The solution is not that difficult to understand. -
Hi,
I have sun etnerprise 250 server. When I start the server power is on, but its not showing any display on monitor. I think I have to reset my bios setup. how can reset the bois setting. Could any one tell how to reset this bios setup? If this problem is related to any other issue please let me.
1) If I start the bootable OS system will it work?
Thanks,Here is your system's resource page in the Sun System Handbook (the "SSH").
http://sunsolve.sun.com/handbook_pub/Systems/E250/E250.html
There is a link on that page for "Related Documentation", where you'll find all the manuals.
There is no "bios" on a Sun SPARC-based system. Review the manuals.
The low level hardware layer is an OpenBoot environment, a.k.a. OBP.
The default output device is never a monitor, but is to the primary serial port (TTYa),
via a serial communications link to another computer -- think Hyperterminal.
Even if this particular system had been reconfigured to work with a Sun video card and a Sun monitor,
you must have a Sun keyboard/mouse kit plugged in for output to go to the screen.
No keyboard and/or no mouse? No signal to the monitor.
Additionally, if you've turned the keyswitch to the diagnostic position,
you force output to the TTYa port instead of any monitor, in a failsafe fashion.
Spend some time with the E250's manuals. -
Oracle 9.2.0.8 on SUN M9000 Blade Server Memory Limit
Is there a 32Gb memory limit for Oracle v9.2.0.8 residing on an SUN M9000 Blade Server?
We currently have an Oracle v9.2.0.8 installed on M9000 and whenever the database memory is increased, the database locks/ceases to function.
The (verbal) history which I have about this database is there is a 32Gb Memory Limit for Oracle v9.2.0.8 database installed on an M9000. Can anyone confirm/assist?user4447247 wrote:

We currently have an Oracle v9.2.0.8 installed on M9000 and
whenever the database memory is increased, post COPY & PASTE show what is changed to which value
by default 32-bit SGA can not exceed about 1.7GB & never more than 4GB.

Can't execute web app from NetBeans 3.6 with Sun Java App Server 8
Hi there,
I'm tyring to execute a java web application called myfirstjsp.
In directory ...\myfirstsjp I've got:
- index.jsp
- WEB-INF dir
- META-INF dir.
I can run myfirstjsp from NetBeans if I choose the Netbeans default server, Tomcat 5.0.19 (this web server is configured to port 8084).
However, when I try to execute myfirstjsp from NetBeans with Sun Java System Application Server 8(configured to port 8080), it gives me an annoying message:
The Sun Java System Application Server 8 could not start.
More information about the cause is in the Server log file.
Possible reasons include:
- Port conflicts. (use netstat -a to detect possible port numbers already used by the operating system.)
- Incorrect server configuration (domain.xml to be corrected manually)
- Corrupted Deployed Applications preventing the server to start.(This can be seen in the server.log file. In this case, domain.xml needs to be modified).
I checked port conflicts but none found.
The other two options don't give me a place to start (I don't know what to do with domain.xml)
I'm working with:
- Windows XP Pro
- J2SE 1.4.2_04 (installed in C:\Program Files\j2sdk1.4.2_04)
- Sun Java Application Server 8 (installed in C:\Program Files\Sun\AppServer)
- Netbeans 3.6 + Sun Java System Application Server Plugin (installed in C:\Program Files\NetBeans3.6).
My PC has the following environment variables:
PATH(in user MGoncalv)=C:\Program Files\Sun\AppServer\bin;,?ut
PATH(system variable)=C:\Program Files\j2sdk1.4.2_04\bin;D:\ProgramFiles\OraReportNT\bin;C:\OraHome92\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;C:\Program Files\Personal Communications\;C:\Program Files\IBM\Trace Facility\;%SystemRoot%\system32\nls;%SystemRoot%\system32\nls\ENGLISH
CLASSPATH(system variable)=.;C:\OraHome92\jdbc\lib\ojdbc14.jar
By looking at the Sun App Server log file, I discovered that the log outputs of
- Start Default Server (a link in the folder created by the installation of Sun App Server)
- and trying to execute myfirstjsp from NetBeans through Sun App Server
are very similar.
Below is a piece of server.log when I tried to execute myfirstjsp from NetBeans through Sun App Server. Please, pay attention to the EJBC error:

Is this EJB compilation error normal ? if not what does it mean ? Sun Java App Server installation isn't OK ?
I tried to look into the Sun App Server Troubleshooting, searched forums... but couldn't squeeze any valuable info from any of them.
If you have any sugestion regarding this problem, or you know some web site that addresses it please tell me !
Many thanks,
MiguelI seem to have the same problem, I cant run sun application server 8.1. The server is in c:\sun\appserver\, I am using netbeans 4.1. I recieve the same comment above:
The Sun Java System Application Server 8 could not start.
More information about the cause is in the Server log file.
Possible reasons include:
- Port conflicts. (use netstat -a to detect possible port numbers already used by the operating system.)
- Incorrect server configuration (domain.xml to be corrected manually)
- Corrupted Deployed Applications preventing the server to start.(This can be seen in the server.log file. In this case, domain.xml needs to be modified).
I cant see any port conflict, the server is set to port 4848. I dont know about any configurations.

thanksI just had the same problem this morning. I believe the app server starts and if you browser directly to your app you'd get it, but the connection between the appserver and the IDE is somehow lost. An easier solution than completely reinstalling for me was to delete the .Creator folder in my home directory (C;|Documents and Setting\<username>\.Creator) and restart Creator

Enterprise 420R Memory upgrade question...
I wish to upgrade/expand the memory in my 420R from 2Gb to 4Gb. I have a complete set of memory totaling 4Gb from another 420R with boot issues (to be resolved later). I remove all memory fro the ailing 420R, set aside, then remove original 2Gb from 420R and replaced with the 4Gb of memory. When booting the server, it still reports only 2Gb RAM (the "replacement" ram from the ailing 420R was reported correctly on that machine; I removed the memory riser card, still populated, and all MB RAM modules, and installed this into the "original" working 420R). Is there something in NVRAMRC or some other setting that needs attention in order for the system to see all 4Gb? FYI: I performed a "boot -r" after booting to the PROM screen first, but the system seems to "hang" during this, with the following Response:
{0} ok boot -r

...and the cursor just sits there NOT flashing, no useable prompt. System appears to hang here and does not seem inclined to proceed further. Keyboard will not initiate a power-off, nor do any keys seem to work. If I initiate a power-off at the front panel switch, then a Power On from the keyboard, I get the same thing, and the system does NOT boot.
Any Ideas, anyone?? I am not very well versed in SUN hardware, but was "gifted" these systems (plus some drive arrays and a couple of 220Rs). I am sure these systems were fully functional when removed from service. I would like to use them as either Web servers or possibly as "File System" servers, for B/U and archive purposes.

mikey5555(AT)consolidated.netharoldkarl,
just took all memory modules out for an "eyeball" and found the following:
All modules are "Samsung" from Korea.
2ea M344C1683DT3-C60C1 (0111 in upper right corner of label)
8ea M344C1683DT2-C60E0 (0035 in upper right corner of label)
6ea M344C1683DT2-C60E0 (0038 in upper right corner of label)
(this taken from the ONLY small square paper tag on one side of each module, the side without the 2 labels with barcodes)
These modules were installed in another 420R, and it reported 4GB in the "header" of the boot prom screen, while they only show 2GB in this 2nd 420R. Assuming these modules will work with each other, is there a preferred order or "pairing" of these slightly disimilar pieces?
I did check for fully seated modules b4 removing, but did not find any that were obviously not seated well.

Error message upgrading Sun One Web Server
We currently use Sun One Web Server SP 4. I have a RSA Cleartrust Agent to install that specifies SP 5. I downloaded SP 7. When I try to install it I receive the following message - "A previous release of the Web Server has been detected in the server root. Please select a different server root." I tried stoppping all the services, then installing, same result. The documentation says to run the install, it would detect the previous version and install. Do I have to uninstall the previous version? I do not want to do that. Thanks in advance.

Sun sparc enterprise t5140 server bus speed
Hello,
what bus speed have sun sparc enterprise t5140?
I found these datasheet:

but without bus speed specification.
Thanks a lot.Hi.
It's problem found same bus on T5140 becouse this server have different architecture.

Sun Java Application Server 8.1 Upgrade Solaris 9 to Solaris 10
I have Sun Java Application Server 8.1 (version 8.1_02 (build b06-fcs) ) and HA which are currently installed on Solaris 9 box (Sparc).
Now, I plan to upgrade Solaris 9 to Solaris 10. What should I need to do before and after migration?
Thanks. Before I start, disclaimer -- I have no knowledge of Hibernate and the following comments are based on the stack trace you have included.
I think your permissions might be set all right but you might have an error in the hibernate query. It looks like hibernate uses antlr to parse the queries. While parsing the query, antlr is encountering an exceptional condition and is trying to exit the VM (by calling System.exit()). Obviously, the hibernate code does not have that permission and therefore the exception is logged.
My guess is if you fix the query such that hibernate/antlr can parse it, you will not run into this error.
Hope this helps, -
Setting XA DataSource on Sun Java Appliation Server 8.1 enterprise with MyS
Hi everyone,
I am developing a J2EE application that requires to query data from 2 different MySQL catalogs using CMP EJB. I am using MySQL JDBC Connector/J 5.0.4 (currently latest), and deployment server is Sun Java Appliation Server 8.1 enterprise edition.Everything worked perfectly till I started to query both datasources in a single transaction. For a case when both datasources are configured as follows:
Resource Type: javax.sql.XADataSource
DataSource Classname: com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optional.MysqlConnectionPoolDataSource
I get the following exeption:
[#|2007-01-18T13:21:41.445+0100|SEVERE|sun-appserver-ee8.1|javax.enterprise.resource.resourceadapter|_ThreadID=15;|RAR5027:Unexpected exception in resource pooling

at com.sun.gjc.spi.DataSource.getConnection(DataSource.java:70)
If I change DataSource Classname to "com.mysql.jdbc.jdbc2.optional.MysqlXADataSource" I get the following exeption as soon as I deploy application:
[#|2007-01-18T12:23:47.151+0100|WARNING|sun-appserver-ee8.1|javax.enterprise.system.core.transaction|_ThreadID=12;|JTS5041: The resource manager is doing work outside a global transaction

at com.sun.enterprise.distributedtx.J2EETransaction.enlistResource(J2EETransaction.java:397)
The tricky part is that the method that involves both datasources is actualy ejbTimeout and it has "RequiresNew" transaction option.
Any help is appriciated. I can provide more info if necessary.
Thanks in advance
AmirI think this is the MySQL JDBC driver bug. They claim that the 5.0 version of JDBC driver supports distributed transactions (XA)
http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.0/en/connector-j-versions.html
However it is not tested on Sun AS. Is there anyone who succeeded to execute distributed transaction on Sun Java Appliation Server 8.1 enterprise with MySQL database? -
Sun One App Server 7.0 Enterprise (?)
Is there a Sun One App Server 7.0 Enterprise Edition being planned ? If so what would be the differences between the standard edition and the enterprise edition ?
RahulRahul,
Yes there is an Enterprise Edition in the works. It will address the load balancing and fail over needs for deployments. More details are available here: http://wwws.sun.com/software/products/appsrvr_ee/home_appsrvr_ee.html
We will also be releasing more information in the October and November.
Cheers,

I'm a little unsure as to what your actual problem is. You say "Can I upgrade Sun ONE Identity Server 6.0 schema v1.0 to schema v2.0" in the question subject but then don't clarify this in the above.

The applications are mostly jsp, and are all over the board. There is a lot of XML parsing, some db connections, and all sorts of other home grown things. However, if the jsp applications were leaking would that not be in the heap?
How would I hunt down these allocations?

Struts & Sun ONE Web Server Enterprise Edition 6.1
Is there a web page that explains how to install struts and Tiles so that all web pages on the server use the information. I am trying to install on Sun ONE Web Server Enterprise Edition 6.1.
I would like to do a company web site with one location for layouts, images, etc and then all later installed web applications can use this information.Hi,
Its wise to use Oracle THIN client, unless you will need any OCI specific features.
Oracle OCI driver requires that your client must have a Oracle Client installation to connect using OCI, but the thin driver only requires classes12.jar in the client host to connect.
You can browse thru the Oracle JDBC Developers guide for more info.
