SUN FOR BROKE
This is not a question... It's a the truth... SUN is dropping their grace. Once they made everything better than anyone...
Now FX is not only late; it's poorly equipped... Sun has forgotten who they market too... They built many software that made MS cringe. From a moderately well equipped OS, to an API that threatened to destroy the Microsoft Monopoly...
9ish Java 1.4 the marker Java API was built. Offering many of the features needed to make mature Java system independent software. NIO was out and SUN was worrying webcams into the picture...
Now webcams have been dropped; HARD... Adobe monopolizes the browser-based content, has full support of media capture devices. And Sun has decided that nix just isn't worth the effort. whether it be UNIX, LINUX, BSD or whatever NIX programmers build everything better... Just because FX is graphical doesn't mean Sun should drop the Nix support.
Sun needs heavy programmers to help break the damning monopoly of FlashPlayer they need to listen to their developers. Sun needs to identify what it's missing swallow it's pride, and Identify what we, the developers, need to create a better market for their software. Gone are the glorious days when the Apache Foundation by sun made everything we need and wrapped it in a bow...
Please Comment if you feel that SUN has lost it's soul and if you demand they earn it back
There is a version for *nix, it's just not out yet because it's not ready. However, JavaFX has been shown to work on Android phone which is Linux-based. It will get supported eventually, don't rush things as it is still new technology.
Anyway, Sun is bought by Oracle and will no longer be there.

IBM Distributed Queue Manager versus the Sun JMQ Broker
Hi,
I am not very familiar with the Sun JMQ Broker but wondering if it has similar features to
In IBM's MQ Series, where there is a concept of DQM (Distributed Queue Management), which allows
sending/receiving messages between geographically distributed "nodes/servers". I glanced through
the Sun JMQ admin guide and it appears that Sun's JMQ Broker Architecture works similarly.
Can someone who know please confirm this?
Thanks a lot,
FredSun's Glassfish Message Queue (aka Java Message Queue, Open Message Queue) uses an architecture of distributed message brokers. There's a technical overview here: [http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/821-0028/aerdj?a=view|http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/821-0028/aerdj?a=view]
If there's any particular feature you're particularly looking for, please ask in the Message Queue forum at

My ipod was submerged in water momentarily. I have dried it with a hair dryer and have placed it in the sun for 1 hour. It will now turn on but will only bring up the connect to itunes screen. When I connect to itunes it is not recognized because it is locked with a security code. I have tried to reset the ipod using the instructions in the user manual to no avail. The accessibility screen is functional because I can turn on/off the voice over and the black and white screen. I think I am making progress but cannot unlock it. Does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks
Unfortunately, using a hair dryer or placing the iPhone in sunlight, at best, will dry the outside of the device. If water got inside, it may still be possible that this water has not dried and can short out the internal battery or cause other circuit damage ... and what you are seeing may be the results of that. I would recommend that you leave the iPhone turned off and take it to your local Apple Store. They may be able to help, but I wouldn't expect them to offer you a replacement. Sorry!

Reporting on DSO for Broker's Statement (Line Item Reporting)?
Dear experts,
I need to create a BW report based on data from FS-CD and ICM for a client in the insurance industry. The report is broker's statement which has in total 3 sections/pages (or in 3 levels). The requirements are as follows:
1. Overview of the total commissions (grouped by different categories) earned by a broker for a specific month
2. When the broker clicks on the "commission group", it will jump to another page showing each commission items of that group
3. Details for each commission item (line item in DSO) can be drill-downed in another separate page
Currently, I have a consolidated DSO for the commission line items. The data will be loaded to an InfoCube followed by a MultiProvider for reporting.
I am new to BI and I assume that I should follow the following approach:
1. Use RRI for the jumps between different details levels
2. Use DSO for reporting the line item on third page
3. Use Report Designer for the layout because the reports are formatted like Balance Sheet
Is it possible that I report on the InfoCube via MultiProvider for the 1st and 2nd levels whereas DSO for the 3rd level?
Could anyone please give me some suggestions on this?
Thanks in advance.
Regards,
JoonHi,
any updates? I read that the RRI capability of the query is not supported in BEx report. Is it true?
If so, is there any workaround to enable this?

Thanks Sun for handcuffing our Solaris 10 boxes
You guys have me in a major holding pattern. I have a Solaris 10 box that was running the SUC (the acronym is funny) preview release without problems. When updating to the 1.0 release, I can not load updates. The system can not re-register becuase I get the error "Sun Subscription Key already in use". This machine is supposed to be my patch proxy for 25 other machines, as it was with Solaris 9. We also can not download patch clusters because of your requirement to register Solaris 10 machines, and guess what, can't do that either. I have a Silver Spectrum contract and expect you to honor the terms of the contract with the necessary support to fix this issue so I can patch my Solaris 10 machines. Please reply or resolve this issue.
Hello. I can appreciate your frustration. As I cannot see your contact details I cannot contact you directly but please note that we are aware of your issue and are pursuing it right now. I am working with our entitlement team and Peter whom I believe are working with within the Solution center. We should be contacting you soon with more information. Thank you for your patience.

Persistent Store Problems for MYSQL Enhanced Cluster With OpenMQ 4.4
I am trying to implement an enhanced cluster with failover. I have edited the config files for each broker instance for a persistent store. I have appended the following to each of the config.properties files:
imq.brokerid=myclusterinstanceINSTANCE1 # I substitute INSTANCE2 for INSTANCE1 for broker #2
imq.persist.store=jdbc
imq.persist.jdbc.dbVendor=mysql
imq.persist.jdbc.mysql.property.url=jdbc:mysql://xxx.xxx.xxx.xx:3306/test
imq.persist.jdbc.mysql.user=user1
imq.persist.jdbc.mysql.needpassword=true
imq.persist.jdbc.mysql.password=mypass
imq.cluster.ha=true
imq.cluster.clusterid=mycluster
imq.cluster.brokerlist=xxx.xxx.xxx.x:37676,yyy.yyy.yyy.y:37676
I then create the persistence storage with "imqdbmgr create tbl". When I view the data in the tables it creates, I have one row. Under Store_Version, I have 410. Under LOCK_ID, it has NULL. When I go to start the brokers with imqbrokerd, I get the following error:

I believe this error is attributed to the NULL value under LOCK_ID. I think that the value under LOCK_ID should be the name of the broker from the config file (even though I specified them in the config files). Any ideas?? THANKS!Just some pointers -- maybe this will be of use:
If you haven't already read it, please take a look at the [ MySQL setup guide|https://mq.dev.java.net/OpenMQ_MySQLCluster_Setup_Guide.html] .
We recommend using NDB Data-store of MySQL Cluster, though this isn't an absolute requirement. Due to some issues we have found with earlier versions, we recommend using MySQL Cluster, 7.0.9 or better (the current version is 7.0.16, or 7.1.5). Either of these would contain Connector/J.
I'd also recommend using the latest version -- MQ 4.4update2 (just in case you happen to have an older copy). There were many minor improvements in the integration with MySQL from the original 4.4 release, to update 2. This is linked at the MQ download page: [https://mq.dev.java.net/downloads.html] -
Attn: Sun. Can we distribute the JRE with a program we write?
I'm trying to find out whether it's legal to distribute the JRE with a program I write. If you look at the license agreement when you download the JRE, first it has the regular license agreement, which says that you can't. But then it has the "supplemental" license agreement (and it says that this "modifies" the regular license agreement). In section 2 of the supplemental license agreement, it quite clearly states that you can as long as you don't modify it and you include some little messages in your documentation.
So I'm hoping to get an answer from someone who actually works for Sun. It seems pretty clear to me that we ARE allowed to distribute the JRE with a program, but people keep sending me emails when I tell them about it - saying things like "You can't program in Java because you can't distribute it."
What I want to do is have an installation program that installs my game and then installs Java (with Sun's JRE installer - this is included ONLY so that it can run my game, as stated in the supplemental license agreement). I should also mention that I do actually intend to SELL this program, so if that's a problem, please say so. Anyways, could someone from Sun tell me whether this is allowed or not? I don't want to break the law.
- Steve FletcherThe JRE includes a readme file that explicitly states that distribution is permissible, given certain conditions. In particular, look at the 1st paragraph below:

Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition
Version 1.4.1
The Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment is intended for software developers
and vendors to redistribute with their applications.
The Java 2 Runtime Environment contains the Java virtual machine,
runtime class libraries, and Java application launcher that are
necessary to run programs written in the Java programming language.
It is not a development environment and does not contain development
tools such as compilers or debuggers. For development tools, see the
Java 2 SDK, Standard Edition.
=======================================================================
Deploying Applications with the Java 2 Runtime Environment
=======================================================================
When you deploy an application written in the Java programming
language, your software bundle will probably consist of the following
parts:
Your own class, resource, and data files.
A runtime environment.
An installation procedure or program.
You already have the first part, of course. The remainder of this
document covers the other two parts. See also the Notes for Developers
page on the Java Software website:
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/runtime.html
Runtime Environment
To run your application, a user needs the Java 2 Runtime Environment,
which is freely available from Sun for application developers to
redistribute.
The final step in the deployment process occurs when the software is
installed on individual user system. Installation consists of copying
software onto the user's system, then configuring the user's system
to support that software. You should ensure that your installation
procedure does not overwrite existing JRE installations, as they may
be required by other applications.
=======================================================================
Redistribution of the Java 2 Runtime Environment
=======================================================================
The term "vendors" used here refers to licensees, developers, and
independent software vendors (ISVs) who license and distribute the
Java 2 Runtime Environment with their programs.
Vendors must follow the terms of the Java 2 Runtime Environment Binary
Code License agreement.
Required vs. Optional Files
The files that make up the Java 2 Runtime Environment are divided into
two categories: required and optional. Optional files may be excluded
from redistributions of the Java 2 Runtime Environment at the
licensee's discretion.
The following section contains a list of the files and directories that
may optionally be omitted from redistributions with the Java 2 Runtime
Environment. All files not in these lists of optional files must be
included in redistributions of the runtime environment.
Optional Files and Directories
The following files may be optionally excluded from redistributions:
lib/charsets.jar
Character conversion classes
jre/lib/ext/
sunjce_provider.jar - the SunJCE provider for Java
Cryptography APIs
localedata.jar - contains many of the resources
needed for non US English locales
ldapsec.jar - contains security features supported
by the LDAP service provider
dnsns.jar - for the InetAddress wrapper of JNDI DNS provider
bin/rmid
Java RMI Activation System Daemon
bin/rmiregistry
Java Remote Object Registry
bin/tnameserv
Java IDL Name Server
bin/keytool
Key and Certificate Management Tool
bin/kinit and jre/bin/kinit
Used to obtain and cache Kerberos ticket-granting tickets
bin/klist and jre/bin/klist
Kerberos display entries in credentials cache and keytab
bin/ktab and jre/bin/ktab
Kerberos key table manager
bin/policytool
Policy File Creation and Management Tool
bin/orbd
Object Request Broker Daemon
bin/servertool
Java IDL Server Tool
In addition, the Java Web Start product may be excluded from
redistributions. Depending on the platform, the Java Web Start
product is contained in a file named as follows. The actual
product version number would replace the <version number> notation.
javaws-<version number>-solaris-sparc-i.zip
javaws-<version number>-solaris-i586-i.zip
javaws-<version number>-linux-i586-i.zip
javaws-<version number>-windows-i586-i.exe
Redistribution of Java 2 SDK Files
The limited set of files from the SDK listed below may be included in
vendor redistributions of the Java 2 Runtime Environment. All paths
are relative to the top-level directory of the SDK.
- jre/lib/cmm/PYCC.pf
Color profile. This file is required only if one wishes to
convert between the PYCC color space and another color space.
- All .ttf font files in the jre/lib/fonts directory. Note that the
LucidaSansRegular.ttf font is already contained in the Java 2
Runtime Environment, so there is no need to bring that file over
from the SDK.
- jre/lib/audio/soundbank.gm
This MIDI soundbank is present in the Java 2 SDK, but it has
been removed from the Java 2 Runtime Environment in order to
reduce the size of the Runtime Environment's download bundle.
However, a soundbank file is necessary for MIDI playback, and
therefore the SDK's soundbank.gm file may be included in
redistributions of the Runtime Environment at the vendor's
discretion. Several versions of enhanced MIDI soundbanks are
available from the Java Sound web site:
http://java.sun.com/products/java-media/sound/
These alternative soundbanks may be included in redistributions
of the Java 2 Runtime Environment.
- The javac bytecode compiler, consisting of the following files:
bin/javac [Solaris(TM) Operating Environment
and Linux]
bin/sparcv9/javac [Solaris Operating Environment
(SPARC(TM) Platform Edition)]
bin/javac.exe [Microsoft Windows]
lib/tools.jar [All platforms]
- jre\bin\server\
On Microsoft Windows platforms, the Java 2 SDK includes both
the Java HotSpot Server VM and Java HotSpot Client VM. However,
the Java 2 Runtime Environment for Microsoft Windows platforms
includes only the Java HotSpot Client VM. Those wishing to use
the Java HotSpot Server VM with the Java 2 Runtime Environment
may copy the SDK's jre\bin\server folder to a bin\server
directory in the Java Runtime Environment. Software vendors may
redistribute the Java HotSpot Server VM with their
redistributions of the Java Runtime Environment.
Unlimited Strength Java Cryptography Extension
Due to import control restrictions for some countries, the Java
Cryptography Extension (JCE) policy files shipped with the Java 2 SDK,
Standard Edition and the Java 2 Runtime Environment allow strong but
limited cryptography to be used. These files are located at:
<java-home>/lib/security/local_policy.jar
<java-home>lib/security/US_export_policy.jar
where <java-home> is the jre directory of the Java 2 SDK or the
top-level directory of the Java 2 Runtime Environment.
An unlimited strength version of these files indicating no restrictions
on cryptographic strengths is available on the Java 2 SDK web site for
those living in eligible countries. Those living in eligible countries
may download the unlimited strength version and replace the strong
cryptography jar files with the unlimited strength files.
Endorsed Standards Override Mechanism
An endorsed standard is a Java API defined through a standards
process other than the Java Community Process(SM) (JCP(SM)). Because
endorsed standards are defined outside the JCP, it is anticipated that
such standards will be revised between releases of the Java 2
Platform. In order to take advantage of new revisions to endorsed
standards, developers and software vendors may use the Endorsed
Standards Override Mechanism to provide newer versions of an endorsed
standard than those included in the Java 2 Platform as released by Sun
Microsystems.
For more information on the Endorsed Standards Override Mechanism,
including the list of platform packages that it may be used to
override, see
http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/guide/standards/
Classes in the packages listed on that web page may be replaced only
by classes implementing a more recent version of the API as defined
by the appropriate standards body.
In addition to the packages listed in the document at the above
URL, which are part of the Java 2 Platform, Standard Edition
(J2SE(TM)) specification, redistributors of Sun's J2SE
Reference Implementation are allowed to override classes whose
sole purpose is to implement the functionality provided by
public APIs defined in these Endorsed Standards packages.
Redistributors may also override classes in the org.w3c.dom.*
packages, or other classes whose sole purpose is to implement
these APIs.

Eclipse/Sun Java Application Server
Hi,
I'm running MyEclipse 5.5.1 on an XP machine and Java System Application Server on a Win 2003 server in an intranet. I want to deploy directly from MyEclipse, but the server won't start. Have tried Tomcat wich works fine, firewalls are disabled. The log file complains it can't find the path/file specified, although it DOES exist.
An example, this file does exist: C:\Sun\SDK\imq\lib\imqjmsra.rar
Thanks,
Mattias
Here's the complete log file:

I'm running MyEclipse 5.5.1 on an XP machine and Java System Application Server on a Win 2003 server in an intranet. I want to deploy directly from MyEclipse, but the server won't start. Have tried Tomcat wich works fine, firewalls are disabled. The log file complains it can't find the path/file specified, although it DOES exist.
An example, this file does exist: C:\Sun\SDK\imq\lib\imqjmsra.rar
Thanks,
Mattias
