SUN HBA card + Apple Xraid 7Tb

I am about to connect SUN x4100 (Solaris 10) + SUN HBA card (SG-XPCI2FC-QF2-Z, http://www.sun.com/storagetek/storage_networking/hba/) to Apple XRAID 7Tb (http://www.apple.com/xserve/raid/specs.html).
Does someone know any showstoppers that this alliance can produce? (some compatiblity problems, performance issues or something like that)...
Since SUN HBA card has SFF LC connector - I need to use SFP-LC tranceiver to connect the card to XRAID that uses SFP. Will this tranceiver suite my needs? - http://www.finisar.com/optics/FTRJ8519P1xNL.php
The only page that can be found at SUN.com is http://www.sun.com/iotechnologies/faq_xserveraid.html. This page does not privide any additional information about SUN HBA card model/number.
  Windows XP

I don't know; I don't work with Solaris much personally. I've certainly had issues with Solaris 9 on SPARC, but that's a totally different beast.
I'd suggest you try mounting it with a big (2.5TB+) LUN. IF it doesn't work, try slicing the LUN in 2 and rebooting the host, and looking again. If it works, then there's your answer.
If you don't have live data on there, it's really not hard to re-merge the 2 LUNs into 1... so testing this isn't all that much time or effort.

  • Any idea Xsan works with SAS HBA card?

Xsan works with FC HBA card, how about SAS HBA card, if yes, can I purchase
SAS HBA card from Apple? Thanks.

To use SAS drives in the Mac Pro you need the RAID card:
    http://store.apple.com/us/search?find=macpro+raidcard&mco=MzE2OTk1OQ
And then you can buy the Promise SAS drives:
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/MB195G/A?mco=MzE2OTkyNw
    http://store.apple.com/us/product/TV824ZM/A?mco=MzE2OTkyOA
I believe the former is for the older (non-Nehalem) Mac Pro, and the latter is for the new (March 2009) Mac Pro. Double check my work; I didn't read it all that carefully. But this is the direction you need to go to use SAS drives inside a Mac Pro.

  • Solaris 9 HBA card detection

    Hi,
Every time i install a fresh copy of Solaris 9 OS, i make sure i install the HBA drivers and generate the sd.conf file . But even then, i am not able to see the HBA cards detected. Kindly help.

I think you could be in luck with the SG-XPCI1FC-QL2 as it is on the handbook for the E250.
However, you have lucked out with the SG-XPCI1FC-QF4 as there is no chance you will make one of those work in a E250. These cards require the new I/O assemblies for the large Sun Fires.
I think the SG-XPCI1FC-QL2 is rebadged Qlogic QLA2300 (I am not certain of this but I will give it a go in the future) . Go to the Qlogic web site:
    http://support.qlogic.com/support/os_detail.asp?productid=122&osid=22
You will find the drivers there.
    Good luck.

  • HP HBA Card compatibility-SunStoredge9990/Tagmastore 9990,SunStoragetek6540

Is there any site or way to check the compatibility of this HBA Card...
    "HP StorageWorks FC1143 4Gb PCI-X 2.0 HBA AB429A" with Sun Storedge 9990 / Hitachi Tagmastore 9990, Sun StorageTek 6540.

I think the HCL is more for letting you know what hardware - in this case, the HBA - the Solaris OS will support. So, I'm thinking that most fibre-channel cards are built to an industry standard for fibre-channel and that if the OS has a driver for that particular card, it should meet your needs when you connect your Solaris server via the HBA to your 9990/6540. There may be an issue if link speed on each end doesn't match and HBA can't strp down to 9990/6540's link speed.
One way to find out for sure (if you already paid for the HP HBA) -- connect it up and see if it works.

  • Right HBA Card for X4150

    Hello all,

  • Is there a way to make LUNs for apple XRAID visible to XSAN 3?

I have an apple XRAID with two controllers and 14 750GB drives. This and the server is connected to a silkwork 200e. I can mount the raid in Disk Utility, etc. but I can't see the LUNs in XSAN 3.
Interestingly if I break the array in disk utility and then re-create it the LUNs will show up temporarily in XSAN.
I took a look at the array in RAID Admin, but the LUN masking is turned off as far as I can tell.

You can't use a software RAID set with Xsan. Break the array. Partition each of the two LUNs as free space. If necessary, use the "dd" command in TS1268 to wipe out existing filesystem metadata. You should be able to label the LUNs for Xsan then.

  • Finding firmware version for HBA card

Does anybody knows a command in solaris 9 to display firmware version for HBA cards or other pci cards currently in system

I've not heard of a way of reading add-on card firmware levels from the OBP...
However, you might be lucky insofar that the firmware levels get displayed at boot time. Emulex cards always do this as one of the very first things that pass on the screen after powering up.

  • How to install HP X132 10G SFP+ LC SR Transceiver (J9150A) in HBA card

    Hello guys,
I want known how to install HP X132 10G SFP+ LC SR Transceiver (J9150A) in HBA card. Kindly revert back as soon as possible.
Note: If you have screen shots or documents. kindly share me.

HP's support site has a doc on installation and removal of the SFP+ tranceivers:

Figured I would post it since I found your question before I found the doc.

  • RAC Diagram: Where does HBA card fit in?

    Version : 11g
I know that all nodes in a RAC configuration have an HBA card and that HBA is somehow connected to the Shared storage. In the following link, we can see that, through NIC meant for public IP, nodes connect to Shared storage.
    http://www.akadia.com/services/ora_rac.html
So, where does HBA fit in the whole RAC set up?

    GarryB wrote:
So, where does HBA fit in the whole RAC set up?At physical h/w and driver level.
For the public RAC network you use what? A network card (aka NIC) and a network driver.
An HBA is like a NIC. But instead of wiring into a network switch, it wires via fibre into a storage array switch (where the switch connects to a SAN). It also needs a driver.
Typically HBAs have dual fibre channel ports. This means that the kernel, via the driver, will see the very same storage device (aka LUN), twice. Once via the one port and then again via the second port.
A LUN will however have a unique identifier (called a <i>WWID</i>). A driver (typically Multipath on Linux, or Powerpath when using EMC) is used to create a logical device that Oracle CRS and ASM can use. It uses the WWIDs to determine the unique device (LUN) and then creates a single logical devices that "sits on top" of the physical devices that points to the very same LUN on the storage server.
So instead of the application layer having to deal with the complexities of mulltiple I/O paths to a LUN, this is done by the driver. The application layer simply uses the logical multipath device and the multipath driver does the rest.
So a HBA is pretty low down in RAC architecture - and RAC itself does not deal directly with it. Just like it does not deal directly with a NIC and its settings.
PS. As already mentioned, the URL you referred to uses IP as a storage protocol and thus a NIC instead of a HBA. Questionable whether this is a good idea as a HBA provides dual 2Gb pipes - and the typical NIC used will be shared IP running at best at 1Gb, using a high latency protocol like TCP. A better option than HBAs are using HCAs and Infiniband instead. This runs dual ports at 40Gb (each) using the low latency SRP storage protocol.

  • Drivers for Sun Floppy under Win 2000 on SUN Pci card.

    Hi,
I'm running a Sun Blade 150 with Solaris 8. I have a Sun Pci card with Windows 2000 loaded. When Win2k boots, it asks for drivers for a "sun floppy". I've looked around for these drivers but I can't find them. Can anyone point me to them. Thanks.

Take a closer look at the actual card,
particularly at the central Ethernet chip.
If I recall correctly, it is a DEC DC2115x chipset for 10/100Mbit connectivity,
and should be natively recognized by Linux.
The 501-5406 QFE card, as shown on a 3rd party web site.
Install it and boot your system.
You should know in just a few moments whether it'll work,
or whether the Sun firmware is of any concern.

  • Aperture and Apple XRaid

    Hi,
Is anybody using Aperture with an Apple XRaid system?
What's your setup, do you store the library on it or only referenced files?
    How is the performance?
    Thanks and Regards,
    JO

The Xserve RAID should be quite fast for Aperture. Given that it's really attached and on 100% of the time (this is the way the RAID is designed to be used), I'd store the entire Aperture library on it.
I haven't used the RAID specifically with Aperture, but have used it for numerous other things -- this would be a great use if you have the money for the setup.

  • Unable to enable HBA Card in the Cisco UCS c22 m3 server

    Hi All,
I need your help desperately to setup the cisco ucs c22 m3 server in our environment. We have a C22 M3 server and I did the basic config of CIMC and we have a LSI megaraid controller connected to one of the PCIe and the other PCIe has a dual port 8gb HBA card. We installed the RAID and we can see the LSI Megaraid controller. But I cannot see the HBA card and there is noo light near the card. I hope I need to enable something so that the card should work. I tried enabling in the BIOS menu I can see the PCIe slot is enabled but I am unable to see the HBA functioning. Couldyou pleasehelp me to resolve this.

    Dear Manuel,
Thanks for replying me. See the answers for your queries.
What kind of HBA card are you trying to use?
If I am not wrong we are using "Qlogic QLE2562, 8Gb dual port Fibre Channel HBA".
How many CPUs do you have installed on your server?
I opened the box and saw only 1 CPU installed. But the solution is given by CISCO pre sales. We have 2 PCIe slots configured. One for LSI RAID controller and the other with dual port Fibre Channel HBA.
    Awaiting your reply.
    Thanks and Regards,
