Sun IDM vs Oracle IDM

Hi Everyone,
The current version of IDM we are at is 6.0. We are thinking of the following options:
1. Upgrade Sun IDM 6.0 -- IDM 8.1
2. Migrate to latest Oracle IDM.
Could someone please let me know the pros/cons in considering one over the other options?
Thanks,

Hi,
A very interesting question but not one that can be answered easily.
As Oracle is in the process of buying Sun then the future of both products is uncertain. Sun IDM might survive or Oracle IDM might survive or the future Oracle IDM product may be a combination of both. I do not believe that we will see a resolution to this for at least 6 months. Even then it will only be an annoucement.
I also do not see an major improvements in either product until there is greater certainty of what will be the future product.
For your particular circumstance I would upgrade from Sun IDM 6.0 -- IDM 8.1. The main reasons are as follows:
- Software currency. IDM 6.0 is no longer supported.
- The upgrade is free of licencing costs.
- Improved functionaility of the latest version of Sun IDM.
- Little training is required
Migrating to Oracle IDM would not be a trivial task and would probably include significant cost eg training, licensing and potentially hardware.
I hope this helps

    Got solved. Needed to edit weblogic.policy file as mentioned in http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/E21764_01/install.1111/e12002/oes.htm
    19.3.2.2 Editing the weblogic.policy file
    To edit the weblogic.policy file, run the following command:
    IDM_HOME/common/bin/wlst.sh IDM_HOME/oes/modifygrants.py
    Note:
    The above command will only work if use the default policy name, weblogic.policy file. If you change the default name for the policy file, then you must open the file in a text editor and add the following lines, as shown in the example:
    grant codeBase "file:${idm.opss.oracle.home}/modules/oracle.jps_${jrf.version}/*" {
    permission java.security.AllPermission;
    grant codeBase "file:${idm.opss.oracle.home}/oes/*" {
    permission java.security.AllPermission;
    grant codeBase "file:${oes.client.home}/-" {
    permission java.security.AllPermission;
    };

  • Oracle IdM integration with Microsoft ILM 2007/FIM 2010

    We currently have ILM 2007 in our environment with limited usage at the moment. We are looking at purchasing Oracle Identity Manager to implement an enterprise wide IAM solution.
    We were wondering if it is possible to continue using ILM like a middleware between our AD forests and the Oracle IdM. Where the Oracle IdM is the overarching IAM solution and Microsoft ILM 2007/FIM 2010 is like the metadirectory for our AD forests.
    Is this possible without installing the Oracle Management Connector on any of our DCs and using ILM as the directory that Oracle IdM connects to. All AD account provisioning/de-provisioning, acct updates, password sync/reset will be initiated from the Oracle IdM to ILM and then implemented on AD. In order words no direct interaction with AD domain controllers from Oracle IdM, everything will go to ILM and ILM in turn applies it to AD.
    Is this possible?
    Is there a custom connector that will work with ILM 2007/FIM 2010
    Is this a simple customization or something that can be problematic and expensive?
    Any feedback is much appreciated
    Thanks

    Is this a simple customization or something that can be problematic and expensive?It won't be simple. Problematic and expensive maybe, depends on how good you are with OIM and ILM

  • Error when install Oracle IDM 11gR1 11.1.1.6

    Hello everybody
    I've tried to install Oracle IDM 11.1.1.6 with this instruction (http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E23943_01/install.1111/e12002/instps2.htm#INOIM75552).
    My system:
    - 2 VMware virtual server (one for Oracle DB 11gR2, and one for IDM)
    I installed Oracle DB then run RCU for creating schema for:
    - Identity Management - Oracle Internet Directory
    - Identity Management - Oracle Identity Federation
    I installed IDM without configuration, the installation was successfully. After all, I tried to run config.sh script form IDM_ORACLE_HOME.
    Most of steps I did was same to documentation, but each time I tried I got a different errors. I cannot complete installation with GUI wizard, so I tried to do with response file.
    The error I got is unable to start oid server. That is full log of my installation, please review and help me to detect the problem,.
    Any suggestion is appreciated.

  • Application hangs on first login - First run - Oracle IdM

    HI,
    I am new to Oracle IdM (Xellerate). Just finished setting up my install (Win 2003 SP1, SQL 2000 sp3a, OIDM 9.0.1, JBoss 4.0.2, JDK 5.0).
    When I try to login to the xlWebAp using xelsysadm/xelsysadm, my server console hangs after displaying
    [XLJobStore] Handling 14 triggers that missed their scheduled fire time
    Is this normal? Am I missing something here?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Clarification on Prerequisite components for Oracle IDM 11gR2PS2

    I am new to Oracle Fusion Middleware. However, I am familiar with IDM concepts of a different vendor.
    I started with installation documentation and would like to have clarification on IDM components (Includes OAM, OAAM, OIM, OSTS, OES, OIN, OUD, OIF, ESSO, OIC, OPAM). While referring "Oracle Identity and Access Management 11g Release 2 (11.1.2.x) Certification Matrix", first section describes system requirements which tells us about supported  "Processor type, OS Version, OS 32/64 Bit, Database" etc for 11gR2PS2 (11.1.2.2.0). "ID&Access" tab tells about LDAP supported for specific component(s).
    Notes -
    "Some Oracle Identity and Access Management components require an Oracle Database. Ensure that you have an Oracle Database installed on your system before installing Oracle Identity and Access Management. The database must be up and running to install the relevant Oracle Identity and Access Management component. The database does not have to be on the same system where you are installing the Oracle Identity and Access Management component."
    I am aware of the fact that configuration will be difficult in these type of architecture I mention below and it is not recommended. Moreover, I will not be able to use RCU. Let's ignore the configuration part for a while.
    As mentioned above, when I went through first section it says, database supported for Identity Management 11gR2PS2 (11.1.2.2.0) is "Oracle Database". Whereas in the section which specifies about the supported LDAP type, specification are as below -
    (for ease of understanding I have just take two components from the IDM suite).
    OAM - Oracle Internet Directory
            - Oracle Virtual Directory
            - Microsoft Active Directory 2008,
            - Novell eDirectory 8.8,
            - IBM Tivoly Directory Server 6.3
            - And as per list...
    Whereas, OIM Server supports,
    OIM - Oracle Internet Directory,
           - Oracle unified Directory,
           - Microsoft Active Directory 2008
    However, I do not find Novell eDirectory or IBM Tivoli Directory server in the LDAP supported list for OIM Server.
    My Question is,
    In the list of supported database, it has been listed as "Oracle Database" everywhere. Whereas support  for LDAP type we have option(s) from different vendors. Does this mean that if I plan to use LDAP something other than Oracle Internet Directory / Oracle unified Directory / Oracle Virtual Directory, my database should be 'Oracle Database' only ?
    Scenario 1 - I want to use OAM server and since OAM supports LDAP from Microsoft, IBM, Novell.
    Can I go for IBM Tivoli Directory Server as LDAP type and IBM DB2 as database type ?
                                                    or
    IBM DB2 as database type and Oracle Internet Directory / Oracle Unified Directory ?
                                                    or
    (If deploying on Windows system) Microsoft SQL server as database type and Microsoft Active Directory 2008 as LDAP type ?
    Or is it Mandate that my database should be "Oracle Database" irrespective of LDAP (IBM TDS / Microsoft Active Directory / Novell eDirectory) I select.
    Scenario 2 - I want to use OIM server and apart from Oracle Internet Direcotry / Oracle Unified Directory it only supports Microsoft Active Directory 2008 as per list.
    Does this mean that if I use 'OIM Server' component of Oracle IDM 11gR2PS2 (11.1.2.2.0),
    My database will be 'Oracle Database' and as a option for LDAP I have Microsoft Active Direcotry 2008 ? Yes, We have Oracle Unified Directory if we don't opt for Microsoft Active Directory.
                                                                        or
    If I plan to use Microsoft Active Directory 2008 as my LDAP can I use Microsoft SQL server as database ? Or Should I use "Oracle Database" only ?
    And, the OIM components doesn't support IBM's DB2 or IBM's Directory server / Novell eDirectory. ?

    Any OIM experts, can you guys help!!

  • Integrate Oracle IDM with Sql Server 2005

    Hi Guys,
    We maintain the employees information in Oracle IDM and we want to integrate Oracle IDM with Sql server 2005.
    how we can this.

    The DB connector?
    The 9.0.1.4 version supports SQL server 2005.
    The latest version of the GTC db connector might also work.

  • GRC -IdM integration (HCM IdM GRC IdM)

    Hi IdM & GRC Gurus,
    We want to implement a scenario where IdM (7.1) gets user data from HCM, followed by Workflow and SoD analysis in GRC (5.3) and Finally IdM performing the Provisioning (HCM > IdM > GRC > IdM), however I donu2019t see any documentation for this exact scenario. If SAP's direction is for IdM being provisioning solution and not GRC (CUP), the above scenario should be implemented. SAP documentation "SAP IdM Compliant Provisioning using GRC Access Control Configuration Guide. PDF" is similar but here GRC (CUP) is doing the final provisioning.
    I have following questions
    1     Which Framework should be imported in IdM to implement IdM - GRC integration, where IdM gets user data from HCM, followed by Workflow and SoD analysis in GRC and Finally IdM performing the Provisioning (HCM > IdM > GRC > IdM)?
    2     GRC Provisioning Framework (GRC 53 Provisioning Framework_Folder.mcc) that is available on SDN, is based on HCM to IdM followed by GRC conducting SoD analysis and provisioning. Can the same framework be used for a scenario where IdM does the provisioning in the last step (same as question 1)?
    3     "If answer to question 2 is yes? What are the changes/customization required to GRC Provisioning Framework (GRC 53 Provisioning Framework_Folder.mcc)? As per the limitations (page 37) mentioned in the document SAP IdM Compliant Provisioning using GRC Access Control Configuration Guide. PDF, ""It is not possible to only carry out a check for Segregation of Duties, without having the
    request provisioned to the GRC Access Control back-ends. It means that the Identity Center
    cannot just ask if a certain entitlement assignment is valid.
    If the request is approved, the accounts and role assignments will always be performed in
    the GRC Access Control back-end systems."" If this is true, how can we impliment HCM > IdM > GRC > IdM (IdM doing provisioning in the end)?"
    4     If GRC Provisioning Framework (GRC 53 Provisioning Framework_Folder.mcc) is implemented along with HCM framework (SAP Provisioning Framework_Folder.mcc) and HCM_Staging_Area_Identity store.mcc, which Identity Store should GRC Provisioning Framework be imported (HCM_Staging_Area OR SAP_Master)?

    Hi Joel,
    within the VDS you create a local user ('HR_USER') and you choose some password. Later while configuring the HCM system you use these credentials to define the connection from HCM to the VDS.
    Kind regards
    Frank
