Please what is this all about? Where can one get to read well about this..is it free to get?

But is there any Linux Distibution in which Java and its GUI application just compiles "natively" such that all swing APIs and all avaliable GUI platforms, all available look and feels and the Huge Java API are sort of pre-bundled in it.
I think this can sort of accelerate Java based application development. Of course i know its possible to put all this together by oneself by using any specie of Linux but i believe that an all-in-one distribution can still inspire java development on linux platform....well pardon my ignorance if there is any.

Try this:
Log into a termina as rootl. (Select failsafe terminal or command login)
To get the name of your network interface driver, type:
/usr/sbin/ifconfig -a You'll see something like this:

In my case it is hme0 so I create a file called /etc/dhcp.hme0:
touch /etc/dhcp.hme0If you want to set a hostname, put it in a file called /etc/hostname.hme0 for example:
rm /etc/hostname.hme0
echo myhostname > /etc/hostname.hme0Most broadband providers preconfigure ADSL modems to default to DHCP so if you do this, connect the ultra 10 to the broadband modem and reboot, the ultra 10 should pick up an IP address and be connected to the internet.

Sun Java Desktop System [ SSH hanging]

Hello,
I am running latest solaris 10 release (10/09 Generic_141445-09 ) using gnome-terminal GNOME Terminal 2.6.1 (supplied with solaris)
from within gnome terminal, as root, I can start interactive ssh session from this box to anywhere fine.
BUT
from within gnome terminal, as ANY OTHER user, the INTERACTIVE ssh connection from this box to any server HANGS (remote commands run fine)
This issue does not happen from within XTERM window:
from within XTERM terminal window, I can successfully start an interactive ssh session to anywhere (as any user).
so that means problem is either with some environment variable(since it works for root from gnome-terminal) OR with the GNOME terminal app (but it is working for root???)
root user is using /sbin/sh shell. other users use /usr/bin/bash. there is no .bashrc file at the moment,
can anyone help? do i need a patch? or reset some variable?

The session that hangs does it establish a connection first? Does it prompt for a password etc? If you could tell me the results of the below commands:
As root
ssh server
ssh user@server
As a user
ssh server
ssh root@server
If the first two tests pass and the second two fail then could you please send the following output:
As root
ssh -v server (just login with a password then kill the connection)
As a user
ssh -v server (again run either until it hangs or login if you can and then kill the connection)

If you log in using accessibility features on the Java

error dialog might appear: Error activating XKB configuration.
How can I solve this problem? Can I disable accessibility features (especially when I log in using NoMachine NX Client)?

but today it's release 3 already and it's said it already integrated in JDS

Good question. It appears to have been installed with Solaris 11/06, as I have all of the packages listed here:

However, it does not appear in the Java Web Console. I tried adding it using the wcadmin command, but haven't managed to get it to run as per the docs. The documentation assumes that it is already installed and visible in the Java Web Console...

An application for the Java Web Console should have a WEB-INF directory and an app.xml file. The apoc packages come with neither, so something is missing.

Uninstall Java Desktop System?

Hi,
when browsing the docs (docs.sun.com, search for java desktop system), I've a tough time in finding how to unistall the java desktop system. Also, using the prodreg package manager, I only find some GNOME packages, but nothing about jds.
Can jds be removed (while preserving the CDE/KDE desktop managers)? If so, how?

There's no 'official' method of uninstalling JDS that I know of.
You can get a list of all JDS packages using this command:
pkginfo -c JDS3 | awk '{print $2}'
Note that this list includes all packages delivered by the JDS team,
including things like Python, libpng and mozilla.
To uninstall all packages, you can feed that list into pkgrm (as root):
sed -e 's/ask/nocheck/' /var/sadm/install/admin/default > /tmp/admin
pkginfo -c JDS3 | awk '{print $2}' | xargs -n1 pkgrm -a /tmp/admin -n
rm /tmp/admin
This will uninstall all JDS packages without asking.
Or almost all... it won't uninstall StarOffice, to uninstall that too, run
pkgrm SUNWsogm
pkgrm SUNWsom

Great question! Although the Java Desktop System is based on open source software, there is no requirement that you will open source your software. You are free to charge for your application, and Sun will even help you (once your applications is "Java Desktop System Ready") to go to market.

Black Screen with cursor. Java Desktop System.

Hello everyone.
I've installed Solaris 10 05/08 x86 32bit in VMWare Workstation 6.5.
After I logged in in the system (Java Desktop System, Release 3), I've got only a black screen with cursor, nothing more.
X server: Xsun server configuration:
Video Device: VMWare Inc vmware0405
Video Driver: XF86 VMWARE
Resolution/Colors: 800x600 65536 colors @75Hz
Screen size: 17 inch
Monitor type: MultiFrequency 56Hz (up to 1280x1024 interlaced)
But the CDE starts normally.
What's the problem?

P.S. Computer with VMWARE Workstation: Asus P4P800SE, P4HT 3.0Gz, 2.0Gb Ram, Ati AIW X800 AGP 256Mb..

Sun Java enterprise System 2005Q1 installation problems

I have installed 2005q1 parts in my solaris 5.8 box and had some problems running sussessfully portal server and access manager. So I had to uninstall them again.
The uninstaller from /var/sadm/prod/entsys/uninstaller did not give me option to un install all components, so I have removed some packegs using pkgrm command.
Now I am trying to reinstall webserver/directory server/access manager again and now getting the follwoing problems.

it seems that you have not uninstalled the previous entire installation. You can clear all installation manually. first, you need remove all information about your previour installation in "/var/sadm/install/productregistry" file, and then deleted the previous installation directory , now suppose you can reinstall it successfully again, good luck!

Issue: non-root access to Java Desktop System

Rookie here. i have been using Solaris 10 with no problem and accessing the GUI thru the Java Desktop system with no problem. i created a new non-root user 'user1' on the system with all default parameters assigned to the user when doing 'useradd user1'. these default parameters assume a default home directory is assigned to the user, correct? i am able to access the system with 'user1' via console and remote, but i cannot access the GUI thru the Java Desktop system with this user. It accepts my credentials then it flashes a couple of times and sends me back to the welcome log-in screen.
Are there additional permission that i need to grant this user to access GUI via JDS? i'm able to do everything else as normal. Any help is appreciated.

doing 'useradd user1'. these default parameters assume a default home directory is assigned to the user, correct? i am Incorrect. man useradd paying attention to -d and -m. Solaris defaults to /export/home and will usually throw an error if you try to use /home as it's controlled by the automounter.
If it's just a test user account then userdel followed by useradd again.

Java Desktop System Login to Zone?

Hi all.
I have installed Solaris 10 (Kernel version: SunOS 5.10 Generic_137138-09) for i386. I have created a single non-global zone which runs happily and that non-global zone can be accessed with SSH remotely and locally by root. Zlogin also works for my zone. Additionally, the zone seems to be running an X server because if i "ssh -X myzone" I can run graphical applications in my zone (like xclock) from the Java Desktop System in my global zone.
Now, what I would like to do, if possible, is to login with the full Java Desktop System to my non-global zone. When presented with the graphical login screen on the console I choose "Options" then "Remote Login" then "Choose Host From List", I see my non-global zone on the list. So I then highlight my non-global zone and click "OK". I am returned to the login screen. But it still says "Welcome to <my global zone>", and when I logon I am still in the global zone. I also tried typing in the non-global zone name in Options -> Remote Login -> Enter Host Name, but still no luck.
So, what might I need to do to login with the Java Desktop System to my non-global zone?

Is there any particular reason why you did the minimum install? I perform an "Entire Distribution without OEM SUpport" installation, and select everything except the Documentation (since there is no documentation CD - go figure) and the Java Enterprise System (since I do not need to run those servers). I do install the Companion CD which contains a lot of the software.
When the installation is finished, the Java Desktop System is up and running, after tweaking XFree86, of course.
Unless you are **REALLY** hurting for disk space, you might as well install the entire distribution. They claim that you need 9 GB or so, but in reality I've been able to install it on a 4 GB hard drive.
As to where exactly it's located, I'm not sure because it's always been installed for me. If you can, reinstall with an Entire Distribution and the additional software selections that I mentioned. You'll have JDS.

Java Desktop System Release 3 - Login problems

Hi all,
This is my first post here so apologies if I'm in the wrong area. I've recently installed Solaris 10 (5.10 Generic_118833-36) onto a V245. I wanted to see if I could get the gui desktop to work so I downloaded/installed Hummingbird Exceed on to my Windows XP workstation. Having launched Exceed XDMCP broadcast I could see my host in the list so I selected and clicked OK. I was instantly presented with the blue login shell, so good so far. In options, sessions I chose Java Desktop System release 3. When I tried to login as root the login shell just dies and disappears but If I use a non-root account it takes me all the way in to the desktop gui. The same thing happens if I use select CDE as the session type as well.
So my question is how do you login as root?
I gues it's a config file somehwere that needs a tweak but I've not been able to find anything helpful on Goolge so far.
Any help is most appreciated.

I just removed the locales using the same tool and I can log in now.
Does anyone have any idea why this is or the correct way to install extra locales ?
