Sun Java System Messaging Server doesn't support some ISO 8859 charsets

Hello,
I couldn't find any link to report bugs on the Sun Java System Messaging Server, so i guess i'll report it here:
Sun Java System Messaging Server currently doesn't support the ISO 8859-13 charset, which is the standard charset in the Baltic states. When a person recieves an email in that charset, every non-ASCII character in the message becomes absolutely unreadable when displayed in this webmail application.
This has been tested with this version of the product:
X-Mailer: Sun Java(tm) System Messenger Express 6.1 HotFix 0.01 (built Jun 24 2004)
Furthermore, you can test the case by yourself using this link: http://www.lietuvybe.org/testas/. You can enter your e-mail address there to get a few sample messages in Baltic and Cyrillic charsets. You will see that the Sun Java System Messaging Server passes all those tests except this particular one. So, it's a very nice product. :)
It would be very very very cool if Sun would fix this small, but very important issue.
regards,
Rimas Kudelis

Hey! :)
I am feeling some bad vibes, here.Hey, sorry, I didn't want you to think it's personal. I didn't really mean to hurt you or whatever. You are trying to help and I do appreciate that. I really do.
The reason i'm a bit sad is about the policy of others:
First, i am not a provider of that webmail service i'm talking about. A big Lithuanian company is. Personally, I rarely use webmail apps at all, and even when i do, i use an app i internationalized myself. :). Meanwhile, i install Horde IMP as a webmail application for my small servers, and i'm satisfied with it.
The problem i described is literally not my problem. It's a problem of that big Lithuanian company mentioned above (and the users of its webmail system). I suppose this company does have that account already and, furthermore, they are the ones who should post to this forum or file a support request., and they are the ones who should be worried about that bug. However, reality differs. In reality, big companies in Lithuania don't care about correctness of their webmail apps too much. However, there are a few maniacs like me who do. We test their webmail apps, we contact them and describe them their problems and ask them to fix those problems. Sometimes, they do that, but in most cases we either don't get a reply at all, or we get something like "we'll take a look at it later". For example, lately, we had an issue with one of the most popular webmail providers in Lithuania skipping a MIME-version header. Fixing this issue is just a single line of code. However, we had to push them annoyingly for kinda few months until they finally fixed it.
That was the first aspect.
The second is that i don't really like to create hundreds of accounts for myself just to ocasionally report bugs like this one. If only Sun would let me to simply file a bug, and forget that, i would gladly do it. But no, i have to find a deeply hiden support page, then fill a form, create myself an account and a password, then log on, then fill some misterious support request... Do I have to do that for a company that won't even consider thanking me? I think that's too much. Furthermore, every party on the net enforces it's own username and password restrictions. That sucks too. I wish i could just log on as "rq" everywhere like this forum, using the same password i could easily remember. However, i have to use "rq", "er-ku" or "erku" or "rq@something" as my username on different platforms, and sometimes even my (long enough) password is not accepted. It's hard to track such accounts, and in most cases like this one, i don't really want to have an account at all, as i'm just passing by.
To summarize the post: I'm NOT a licenced user, and all I wanted was to file a bug, which affects licenced users and ordinary people.
How do i remove my account from this forum now? :)

  • Sun Java System Messaging Server compatability with ipv6

    Dear All;
I am planning to upgrade the network to ipv6, I would like to know if anyone knows about any issues with Sun Java System Messaging Server 5.2 running over an ipv6 network. Is such information posted anywhere on Sun's website?

  • Sun Java System Messaging Server - necessary components

People, prompt: for Sun Java System Messaging Server besides ldap, what is necessary?

    Hi,
What is it you want to do with your messaging server installation? If you don't want UWC access (i.e. IMAP/POP access only) then Messaging Server is all you need (along with an LDAP server which may or may not be installed on the same system). A mail-relay system for example requires very little, in fact during configuration you can disable the store to leave MTA functionality only.

  • Sun Java System Messaging Server for Windows xp

    Hi,
We are in a project that uses Sun Java System Messaging Server on Windows xp platform. But we didn't find the software download.
Please tell how can i have that software?

Messaging Server 6.x has never been released for Windows. A windows release is projected for the future, but that may be months away.
Messaing 6.1 is available NOW for Redhat Linux AS2.1 u2 and Solaris X86. I have installed both, and find them both good.

  • Sun Java System Messaging Server

    Hi all,
I am new to Sun Java System Messaging Server. In fact right now I don't even know how to install it. Which is why I'm here. I need to know if this server can run on windows xp OS. The other option that I have is Ubuntu Linux 64bit, though I am not so fluent with that operating system.

I visited the link above and under the operating system requirements the OS I have is not listed. But can Someone please confirm my suspicion that this server cannot run on winXP or Linux.
    Thank you,

  • Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.3

    Hi.
I've seen that there is a new release of Messaging Server in the Documentation Area: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/coll/1312.2
    Unfortunately, documentation is password protected...
It will not be included in JES from 2006Q4 release, but only in Communications Suite.
I haven't found the software on download area: any idea when it will be available?
    Thanks.
    Bye

    Thank you. I know.
There is the problem that is a part of some thing that look like stand a lone product . I have Directory server and Admin Server which come with Solaris 10 but it is not full version and I do not like it. I can not upgrade it(or replace with new) be cause I do not have enough disk space in root dir and all space allocated in /export/home/(mistake I make in Solaris installation process).
I just want to say that this software very difficult to install. I thing that, If it was stand along product it could be much easy to do it. However I have not idea how it is done(I mean server) and it can be not relevant.
Now( I try to install it in this moment) I can not configure it (may be just access manager) be cause I have dot in the hostname. Is it really important or it just stupid program that validate user input?
I write it with hope that some body else have similar problems and this fact finaly lead Sun to do some thing with this software.
It spatially important for people that pass from Window to Solaris and actually not specialists in this OS.

  • Wildcard Certificate use in Sun Java System Messaging Server (IMAPs/POPs)

I'm trying to use a wildcard certificate acquired from GlobalSign and am having problems getting
it (properly) into the cert database.
I tried using certutil, and that didn't seem to work at all, it would list without user cert status:
    rmorneau+root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config# /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/certutil -L -d .
    GlobalSign-Ext-CA CT,c,
    *.xxxxxxxxxxx.edu ,,
I had some success using msgcert and pk12util, but after importing it in, then seeing that it did
have user cert status, after a quick restart of Messaging (IMAP/POP), SSL quit for IMAP and kicked all
my IMAPs users out temporarily (until I put the original cert8.db and key3.db back).
    -------- ImapProxy_20101115.log----
20101115 135531 ImapProxyAService.cfg (id 2590) SSL negotiation failed for IP XXX.XXX.X.XXX: Cannot connect: SSL is disabled. (-12268)
    pop.xxxxxxxxx.edu u,u,u
    GlobalSign-Ext-CA CT,c,

I truly appreciate any help on this matter.

    2. Does the certificate nickname in NSS match the configured certificate nickname in the product?I'm not sure, but I'll try that the next time I try this... will probably be late at night were I won't be interrupting IMAPs and POPs
Makes sense. Prior to release 7 update 4, the servers have to be shut down before modifying certificate databases. As of 7 update 4 you can do a one-time migration to the cert9.db/key4.db format that >should allow certificates to be updated without taking the servers offline.
This was in the log just before the other log entry that I showed before.
    20101115 135440 ImapProxyAService.cfg ASockSSL_Init: couldn't find cert imap.xxxxxxxxx.edu (-8174)
This is the key line from the log. The server is looking for a certificate with the NSS certificate nickname of 'imap.xxxxxxxxx.edu' and is not finding that certificate so issue 2 is likely the problem.Yes, this was it. Oversite on my part, forgot they had to match and could not be a form of just domainname.edu or *domainname.edu.
You either need to modify the default:SSLCertNicknames setting to match the nickname of the new certificate, or install the new certificate using the existing certificate nickname of 'imap.xxxxxxxxx.edu'I modified the default:SSLCertNicknames setting.
Thank you CNewman very much for all your help.
And, for those trolling for an answer with more detail via an Internet search (that is, if Oracle doesn't screw up these forums for anon searches)::::
With the private key in hand (not password protected), I used 'openssl' to get it into a pkcs12 type file:
(It is best to do this as root and not as sudo root as you might run into problems if your host
does not have root power to write to your home dir on the/a NFS share.... you will get "unable to write 'random state'".)
    root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config/GlobalSign-certs-new# /usr/sfw/bin/openssl pkcs12 -export \
    -in ket-wildcard-cert.pem -inkey private.key -out cert.pkcs12 -name xxxxxxxxx.edu
    Enter Export Password:
    Verifying - Enter Export Password:
Where "private.key" is the key file, and "ket-wildcard-cert.pem" is the (pem format) cert from our cert provider,
and cert.pkcs12 is our cert file that will be imported into the database, and xxxxxxxxx.edu is whatever you (nick)name your cert
    in the database
(I think you could use a password protected private key if you have that password.. I don't.)
Next, I used 'msgcert' to import the pkcs12 cert file into the database (I'm sure there is a way
to use certutil or even pk12util to do the same, but I'm on Sun Messenger 6.3 at this time, so that's what I used.
If someone would like to elaborate for those....?):
(It is best, when using 'msgcert', to do it where your mailsrv user has some privs.. I took my pkcs12 cert and moved into /tmp.)
    root@mmp1:/tmp# /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/msgcert import-cert cert.pkcs12
Enter the PKCS#12 file password: (blank)
Enter the certificate database password: (token password in sslpassword.conf)
Make sure your (wildcard) cert nickname matches what you have in
    ImapProxyAService.cfg and PopProxyAService.cfg at the "default:SSLCertNicknames" field.
    Edit if need be.
    root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config# /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/certutil -L -d .
    GlobalSign-Ext-CA CT,c,
    xxxxxxxxx.edu u,u,u
    root@mmp1:/var/opt/SUNWmsgsr/config# grep default:SSLCertNicknames *AService.cfg
    ImapProxyAService.cfg:default:SSLCertNicknames xxxxxxxxx.edu
    PopProxyAService.cfg:default:SSLCertNicknames xxxxxxxxx.edu
Then, of course, restart the msg service(s).
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/stop-msg
    /opt/SUNWmsgsr/sbin/start-msg

  • Migrate pab from Netscape 4.15 to Sun Java System Messaging Server 6.2

    Hi all!
I have installed JES 6.2 and through MoveUser and a little LDAP attribute modify I have migrated all mail/account from Netscape 4.15 to JES.
Now I have to migrate PAB from Netscape Webmail to JES Messenger Express 6.2.
All my PAB stay in o=pab of SunOne Directory Server. How can I migrate this structure to another root (o=pabjes, for instance) for JES Messenger EXpress?
There is any scripts to do that?
    Thank you very much
    Best Regards
    Marco

    First, thank for the answer.
    I tried,
but Netscape and JES PAB are quite different.
    This is an entry Netscape:
    dn: cn=170695183, ou=testcomune, o=pab
    mail: [email protected]
    givenName;lang-it: Plutarco
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: person
    objectClass: organizationalPerson
    objectClass: inetOrgPerson
    objectClass: pabperson
    cn;lang-it: Plutarco Plutone
    memberofpab: 117080712
    sn;lang-it: Plutone
    cn: 170695183
And this is an entry JES:
    dn: un=ziopinoc6173be, ou=testcomune, o=pab
    mail: [email protected]
    un: ziopinoc6173be
    givenName: zio
    objectClass: top
    objectClass: person
    objectClass: organizationalPerson
    objectClass: inetOrgPerson
    objectClass: pabperson
    sn: pino
    cn: zio pino
As you see, in dn JES appear un instead of cn.
    Attributes are little different.
Really, in JES Communication Express I can see also the old entry of pab. But I can't edit them by click to "Display Name": all field appear empty in the opening window.
So, I think two operation are needed:
    1) a script that modify attributes from netscape pab to JES pab.
    2) when I add a JES account, the pab is added in a tree that is not the netscape pab. The autocreate netscape pab was:
    ou=<uid>,o=pab
    the autocreate JES pab is:
    ou= <tree_of_account_on_his_root>,ou=<uid>,o=pab
To avoid confusion, I would like keep old tree style also for new account without change it by hand in paburi attribute.
    Is that possible?
    Thank you very much again
    Marco

  • Sun Java System Web Server support for Red Hat EL 5

Does anyone have any information when the Sun Java System Web Server might be supported on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5 Server?
    Thanks

Certification of RHEL5 will likely happen with one of the upcoming Update releases.
There is, as far as I know, no reason why Web Server won't run on RHEL5 today though (I use it on Fedora Core 7 without ill effect, and the RHEL trail the Fedora releases a bit in technology versions).

Anyone know of a good book to get someone totally up to speed on Sun Java System Messaging server? I haven't found one yet, and all Amazon seems to have is stuff from 2002 and earlier.

The 5.2 book is very good, and 90% of it applies to 6.x as well.

  • Java 1.5, Servlet 2.4 support in Sun Java System Web Server?

    Hi All,
Does anyone know when the next version of Sun Java System Web Server will be released? 6.1 has been around a while and it doesn't support the latest Java releases, which is odd for a Java product from the company that owns Java. My Sun rep didn't have an answer for me and suggested posting here.
I have seen references to people trying to use 1.5 with their server in another forum, but they were reporting problems and their questions weren't answered.
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    Try the new
SAP NetWeaver Application Server, Java EE 5 Edition
thus you will have the chance to use the latest Servlet 2.5. The download package includes also the new SAP NetWeaver Developer Studio.
