Sun Linux 5.0.9

Can some one give me some information as to what this Sun Linux 5.0.9 OS is? Is it the same as Red Hat AS 3 except its called Sun Linux for Sun or is it totally different?
Thanks

Appears to be based on the EARLIER Linux 2.2
kernel that was used on the Sun Cobalt machines around 2000-2001, or so.
Don`t know for sure - but - it was probably a version based on the Red Hat version at that time. There will surely be someone more knowlegable out there that may probably shed some light on this subject.

  • How do I increase the thread limit on Linux?

    OS: Linux (or Sun Linux)
    Kernel: 2.4.9-31enterprise
    Memory: 2GB
    CPUs: 2
    Java: 1.4.1_01
    I have a dual processor Cobalt LX50 and I am running
    into a thread limit with Java. No matter what I do
    with the Java JVM parameters (heap and stack), I
    cannot get any more than 949 threads. My "top" and "vmstat" output
    shows that I am no where near my memory capacity.
    Below is a simple Java program (28 lines long) I have
    used to test this limit. My question is simply how do
    I go about increasing this limit. Is there some kernel
    parameter I can set or maybe have to recompile into
    the kernel? My /proc/sys/kernel/threads-max is 16383.
    I do not believe my ulimit settings are the problem,
    but I will post them anyway. The problem also occurs
    on non-Cobalt (plain old PCs) uniprocessor machines
    maxxing at about 1018 threads. The other interesting thing is that when I run the same program through the Kaffe VM with -Xms64M and -Xmx512M I do not run into the thread limit problem. Does anyone know what I need to change to get my thread limit up? Also, rewriting the way the program uses threads is not an option.

    Hi,
         My Linux runs
    * Redhat 6.1
    * Sun jdk 1.2.2
         I guess that it must be the native vs. green threads problem here.
    I remember that Sun Linux jdk 1.2.2 only supports green threads. Does that
    mean I have to use other jdk like IBM's?
    Thanks

  • ORACLE XML PARSER FOR JAVA FOR AIX

    Hi people!
    I'm looking for the Oracle XML Parser for Java 9.0.2.0.0C, my 9iAS is BI Installation 9.0.2.3, where can I get it? In the Downloads Section there is only the version for 10g, and the existing versions for 9i are not for AIX (my OS is AIX 5.2L).
    Thanks.

    Thanks for your help, I navigate through this link and, even it shows a table where appears the release for AIX (9.2.0.6.0), when I get to http://www.oracle.com/technology/tech/xml/xdk/software/prod/utilsoft_java.htm
    it shows me only downloads for Sun, Linux and HP-UX, but not for AIX.
    Has the version for AIX being deprecated or something like that?

    Hi,
    I use Sun Studio Express (3-Dec-2006 Build) on SUSE Linux 10.1.
    When I was trying to compile the following code, I got an error message regarding <string.h>. The same codes works fine with g++ compiler.

  • Adding video driver to Solaris 8

    I have installed Solaris 8 on my Dell Latitude laptop and everything is OK except that the configuration assistant for the X window system doesn't include my video card (NeoMagic 2360B). • Best way to define mapping

    Hi
    I am evaluating Kodo in the prospect to migrate an existing application
    which uses a different JDO implementation and I am currently wondering
    what is the best way to define the mapping.
    So far, we have only used __.jdo__ metadata file with default values and
    some jdo extension. Then we delegate to the JDO implementation the task to
    define the schema and create it in the relationnal database.
    I am trying to reproduce the same process with KODO. But :
    - I am encountering some problem with the kodo extension.(but they are
    certainly some mistake from my part, I will introduce some at the end of
    this email)
    - I understand that kodo can use a mapping file.
    Here are my very first questions
    - Which method should I use. Only JDO extension, or mapping file.
    - if I use the mapping file, is it possible to only specify info for
    fields which are different than default behavior of kodo
    - If I use the jdo extension only how can I :
    specify the name of a table for a particular class?
    specify the name of a join table?
    Specify the name of a column for a particular java field?
    Is there a way to configure the mapping tool to use a custom naming
    convention for the whole project (for a particular package)?
    I already made a small evaluation of kodo 7 month ago with version 3.1.0,
    but with this version, there was a bug discussed in this forum which
    forced me to use the mapping file. But I had to define the complete
    mapping, which was a huge task especially when you have to repeat field
    mapping for sub classes. My first tests with kodo 3.2.2 works with jdo
    extension, but I still have some issues as you can see from my questions.
    Thank you for your answer.

    Nicolas,
    You need to define which mapping file using the kodo.jdbc.MappingFactory
    extension. Note that with either format that the mapping information
    must be complete (or you can have Kodo create them for you):
    http://solarmetric.com/Software/Documentation/3.2.2/docs/ref_guide_conf_kodo.html#kodo.jdbc.MappingFactory
    The metadata mapping factory is more verbose though all of your
    information is in a single file. .mapping files are more consise but
    need to be deployed in addition to your .jdo metadata.

  • CSA on Other Operating Systems

    When does Cisco plan to have a CSA client for other operating systems like SuSe 10 desktop and OES server?
    Also, when will they have a client for 64-bit windows architecture? (64-bit may only seem like the buzz word of the moment, but with all future [Microsoft/Novell/SUN/Linux]Server technology coming out 64-bit it makes me nervous when in my environment is mandated to have CSA on all machines including Servers.)
    Does Cisco have a client in development for additional operating systems?

    There are QFS drivers for linux client support, not sure about windows.

  • Cli pdf printer for Solaris?

    I'm trying to find a tool that allows one to print directly to the printer PDF documents without having to go thru a pdf reader GUI.
    I've investigated xpdf + gpdf, kpdf to no avail.
    The reason for this request is i'm generating many pdf documents from a compiler / compiler project that i'm writing that will eventually be released as open source.
    I've gone to Google but haven't been too successful regarding Sun / Linux type tools though there are cli tools available for windows.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank u for yours eyes and ears

    Adobe acroread can do that, the only problem is that the new acroread (seven and later) which are available for the SPARC platform requires an X11 display, but that can be ignored with a simple script and Xvfb:
    #!/bin/sh
    INPUT_FILE=$1
    PRINTER_DESTINATION="-d ppm"
    if [ $2 ]; then
    PRINTER_DESTINATION="-d $2"
    fi
    # For Acroread to function correctly it needs a X11 display, the easiest way
    # to fullfill this requirement is to use Xfvb.
    # Check if Xvfb socket exists, if it doesnt, start it:
    if [ ! -r /tmp/.X11-unix/X1 ]; then
    /usr/openwin/bin/Xvfb :1 > /dev/null 2>&1 &
    fi
    DISPLAY=localhost:1
    export DISPLAY
    #Spool the file first, rather than toss it directly to lp:
    /usr/sfw/bin/acroread -toPostScript -size a4 -pairs $INPUT_FILE $INPUT_FILE.ps
    lp -c -s $PRINTER_DESTINATION $INPUT_FILE.ps
    rm $INPUT_FILE.psThe ancient acroread version available for the Solaris x86 platform does not require a X11 display, but still accepts the -toPostScript option.

  • Version that iFS 1.1 support and Character_set

    Hello,
    - Which version of SUN, Linux, Compaq 64 are
    supported with iFS 1.1 ?
    - What is the implication of the CHARACTER_SET that had been defined during the installation for the clients ?
    - Does the index language will be the same for all the documents?
    - How does it work with the database, whether this one has not the same CHARACTER_SET defined ?
    - How does it work during the UPLOAD(browse) of one document. In view of the fact that it's also possible to choose a CHARACTER_SET?
    Thanks in advance for the help.

  • Slow? polyhedron comparison

    I ran the Polyhedron (http://www.polyhedron.com) set of general
    fortran benchmarks as a test of code speed. Some 64bit ran slower
    than I expected, which I've not investigated yet. Polyhedron ran all the
    ones on the left with an Opteron 2.4G dual cpu, with 333 sdram.
    This is similar to our older Sun v2100z's
    Polyhedron only tests Linux compilers; I tested Sun Studio11
    with patches to late May, on Linux/Solaris, with Lahey as a check.
    My Lahey number is within about 6% of their number. I didn't try very
    hard to find the best compile options, unlike Polyhedron. I just
    used -fast for Studio11.
    times in seconds per iteration; larger is slower.
    The solaris 10 numbers are derived from a 2.8GHz system,
    scaled to compare with 2.4GHz; the dram speed was 400 instead
    of 333 so it is not quite apples and apples.

    I am having the same problem. I am using ISNAN() on the pc. When I ported my code to the Sun Solaris Fortran I wrote a little function:
    FUNCTION HEC_ISNAN (X)
    LOGICAL HEC_ISNAN
    REAL X
    INTEGER isn
    isn = 0
    isn = IR_ISNAN(X)
    HEC_ISNAN = .FALSE.
    IF (isn /= 0) HEC_ISNAN = .TRUE.
    RETURN
    That worked fine. I copied everything over to a Sun Linux Fortran and now I am getting:
    hec_lib_call.o(.text+0x5b6): In function `hec_isnan_':
    : undefined reference to `ir_isnan_'

    I tried the above suggestion about using ieee_is_nan,
    FUNCTION HEC_ISNAN (X)
    USE, INTRINSIC :: IEEE_ARITHMETIC, IEEE_EXCEPTIONS
    ~code not shown
    isn = ieee_is_nan(X)
    and I get the following:
    USE, INTRINSIC :: IEEE_ARITHMETIC, IEEE_EXCEPTIONS
    ^
    "hec_lib_call.f", Line = 205, Column = 58: ERROR: Unexpected syntax: "=>" was expected but found "EOS".

    If I take the USE... statement out, it does not find the ieee_is_nan call. Am I missing something? I'm not familiar with either the Sun or the Linux environment.
    I'm using Sun Studio 12 for Linux.
