Sun One DS 6.2 instance inaccessible behind router?

Hi!
I have a publisher and consumer instance, each residing behind a router with NAT enabled. I am able to create and delete the consumer instance from the publisher's DSCC but I'm unable to access it. I have added port mapping rules for 389, 636 and 11162 for cacao to the consumer instance which is given a static IP address. Is there a way to get this set up working?

Hi,
The consumer must have access to the machine that runs DSCC ports 3998/3999 tcp.
In advance the consumer must allow traffic originating from source port 3998/3999 of the DSCC machine.

Giannis

  • How would a corporation deploy Sun ONE Web Proxy Server?

A corporation should deploy Sun ONE Web Proxy Server at the following key places:
    * The Internet gateway: Sun ONE Web Proxy Server deployed just behind the firewall facilitates access to the Internet and reduces response times and communications expense.
    * Major sub-network connections: Marketing, Sales, Product Development, Human Resources, and Finance departments might have their own subnetworks. An Sun ONE Web Proxy Server deployed at each subnet can reduce traffic on the corporate backbone.
    * Remote offices that are disconnected from the internal network: Sun ONE Web Proxy Server can provide a quick mechanism for replicating content when necessary, providing better company integration and increasing network performance without large capital and communications expense.
    * Internationally: Outside the United States, communications bandwidth is typically much more expensive, making Sun ONE Web Proxy Servers even more cost effective. Every international office can make use of an Sun ONE Web Proxy Server.
    * Outside the firewall as a Web server substitute in reverse proxy configuration: This protects information on the secure Web server behind the firewall and offers load balancing via caching.

  • Installing Sun ONE Instant Messaging...

Hello, I am doing an evaluation for for my company on IM, and would like to install Sun ONE Instant Messaging - on a windows Server.
In the documentation it states I require :
A web server, such as Sun ONE Web Server Enterprise Edition.
A directory (LDAP) server, such as Sun ONE Directory Server
    and.....
A messaging server (SMTP service), such as Sun ONE Messaging Server.
I'm assuming that I don't have to use any of the above, (we already have a web server (IIS), a directory server and an SMTP server)
    Is my assumption correct ?
If no, then I would have to purchase Sun ONE messenger Server for instance, and the license policy starts with users over 1000! i.e. License for 1-4,999 Users (Minimum of 1000 users required.) [+ $20.00 each]
    Can anyone help?
    Regards

your assumption is correct. The SMTP server can be any SMTP server that can route messages to the domains used in user's offline delivery email adresses. If you do nto configure an SMTP server, the system will not be able to forward offline alerts to users' email.

  • Sun one web server 6.0 admin instance

    Hi,
After installing Sun one web server 6.0 sp6 on HP-UX, the admin server instance seems to work fine (i.e. I can bring up the admin web page). However, I cannot bring up web page from other web server instance. it gives me this error "the page cannot be displayed". Am I supposed to get a default webpage from this web server? How can I tell if this web server is working properly? Please help.
    thanks,

    Hi,
thanks for your prompt reply Joe. No, I don't get anything in the access log but I got some error messages in error log. It looks like the error indicates the web server crashed. Please help. I've been struggling to get this web server running and it's going nowhere.

  • Scalability of a single instance of Sun One 7

Upto how many concurrent users can a single instance of Sun One 7 scale (let's say on E10K with six CPUs & 6-8 gig memory), considering that a single JVM runs everything (http server, web & ejb containers, messaging server etc) ? Are there any numbers available ? Is there an option to have multiple JVMs within a single app server instance (like multiple KJS in iPlanet for scalability) ? If not, is clustering(in enterprise edition) the only option to achieve the equivalent of multiple KJS ?

Our performance engineers can comment on the core of your question, but here are some answers to other aspects of your post:
    - The Message Broker always runs out of process. By default, each app server instance starts/stops its own broker process. After creating an app server instance, you can disable the auto start/stop of the broker and map your JMS resources to a broker that could be shared by multiple app server instances.
    - In AS 7.0 Platform Edition and Standard Edition, there is one JVM process per app server instance. You can configure multiple app server instances to house the same apps and resources, but you will have to keep these configs in sync on your own and you will need to provide your own front end load balancer that routes traffic across these instances.
In the Enterprise Edition, configuration of cloned instances and built in load balancing across such instances will be available in the product.
    - Keep in mind that the built-in HTTP server is a highly refined and efficient subsystem. You might be thinking that its presence incurs a lot of overheard when in fact it is very lean.
We'll have our perf engineers comment on the scalability characteristics of app server 7.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Sun One Web Server instance not starting

I have installed Sun One Web server 6.1. The administrator server is starting up. However, the instance of the web server through which I want to serve the web pages is not starting. Altough, there are no error messages that are shown when I am starting the server. Please help.

I would check the logs directory for a PID file. It could be that there is a bogus pid file and when it tries to start you will get no error message. If there is a PID file delete it and try again.

  • Problem with maxprocs 1 on Sun One Web server 6.1

I am using sun one web server on Unix with maxprocs set to 3.
This means that there are 3 jvms running my application under 1 instance. However I have certain components like an application cache that I would like to share between these 3 processes.
Additionally is there a way to configure the server so that requests from 1 session are served by 1 process only.
I am really stuck here. Have searched in all the documentation, but in vain. Would really help if some one of the Sun Developers could answer this.
    Thanks
    Chetan

    Elving,
It is great to hear that there is no predefined limit on number of sessions but if that's the case why the webserver always starts with 1000 allowed by default. Are there any potential performance reasons behind it?
I have your link open in my browser for a few days now as a reference because I am experimenting with different Session Managers. I am trying to find a solution for BheegaChicken to be able to accomodate several thousand simultaneous sessions for his application.
We use V6.0SP2 and SP6 and for BheegaChicken's app specifically V6.1SP2...
I have spent some time in the past looking for the answers how to handle higher then 1000 sessions capacity on one instance and that was even before V6.1 was out. I have found the following reco that talks about optimal performance for sites using threads:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/816-5690-10/perf6.htm#17580
    *** start qoute
    Multi-Process Mode
You can configure the server to handle requests using multiple processes with multiple threads in each process. This flexibility provides optimal performance for sites using threads, and also provides backward compatibility to sites running legacy applications that are not ready to run in a threaded environment. Because applications on Windows NT generally already take advantage of multi-thread considerations, this feature applies to Unix/Linux platforms.
The advantage of multiple processes is that legacy applications that are not thread-aware or thread safe can be run more effectively in iPlanet Web Server. However, because all the Netscape/iPlanet extensions are built to support a single-process threaded environment, they may not run in the multi-process mode, and the Search plug-ins will fail on startup if the server is in multi-process mode.
In the multi-process mode, the server spawns multiple server processes at startup. Each process contains one or more threads (depending on the configuration) which receive incoming requests. Since each process is completely independent, each one has its own copies of global variables, caches, and other resources. Using multiple processes requires more resources from your system. Also, if you try to install an application which requires shared state, it has to synchronize that state across multiple processes. NSAPI provides no helper functions for implementing cross-process synchronization.
If you are not running any NSAPI in your server, you should use the default settings: one process and many threads. If you are running an application which is not scalable in a threaded environment, you should use a few processes and many threads, for example, 4 or 8 processes and 128 or 512 threads per process.
    MaxProcs (Unix/Linux)
Use this directive to set your Unix/Linux server in multi-process mode, which may allow for higher scalability on multi-processor machines. If you set the value to less than 1, it will be ignored and the default value of 1 will be used.
    Tuning
You can set the value for MaxProcs by:
Editing the MaxProcs parameter in magnus.conf
Setting or changing the MaxProcs value in the Magnus Editor of the Server Manager
Note      You will receive duplicate startup messages when running your server in MaxProcs mode.
    *** end quote
If it is not relevant anymore please explane.
I am still interested to understand which of the SessionManagers is recommended by Sun to have optimal performance for sites with high number of sessions and using threads. It is not really obvious from http://docs.sun.com/source/817-6251/pwasessn.html. On top of this that's documented just for V6.1. What about V6.0?
Thank you very much for your cooperation!

  • Problem instaliing sun one LDAP server on windows server 2008 r2

    Hi all ,
I am trying to install Ldap server (Sun ONE Directory Server) on windows server 2008
    I am using apache-tomcat-7.0.28 and java jdk1.7.0_05
I am following this manual for installing :
    https://blogs.oracle.com/marginNotes/entry/installing_directory_server_enterprise_edition1
I have a problem with the cacao agent and how to install it .
I've got this error message :

I stuck and with no other solutions . I hope if you could to help with this issue .
i will glad to know if there is any other ways to install this specific Ldap server ,
    Thanks,
    Alon

You most likely skipped the step of starting the installed server prior to trying to access admin URL. Please check this document:
    http://docs.sun.com/source/817-1830-10/win.html
    Relevant section is:
You can start the Administration Server in either of the following ways:
    # Select Start Menu -> Programs -> Sun ONE Web Server, and choose Start Web Server Administration Server.
    # From the Control Panels Services item.

  • Crystal Reports XI and Sun One 6.1 web server SP 5 Error finding JNDI name

I am trying to create a Crystal Reports XI report in a JSP using Sun One 6.1 Web server sp 5.
At this point I am getting the error Error finding JNDI name on Sun One
The application will run on Netbeans/Tomcat
    I have done the following:
    I edited CRConfig.xml
    <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?>
    <CrystalReportEngine-configuration>

    <DataDriverCommon>

         <JDBCUserName>lab_ro</JDBCUserName>
         <JNDIURL></JNDIURL>

    </JDBC>
I created a report using JDBC (JNDI) connection and have the JNDI Connection set to the name of DATA.
The report works just fine in Crystal Reports.
Then in Netbeans I created an application and it runs in the Tomcat part of Netbeans

  • Error message when starting new webserver on Sun One

    Hi,
I saw a similar post on this topic a couple of months back. Tried the suggestion, but my results are different from that person's results.
I'm trying to create a new webserver on a freshly-installed Sun One server. Ultimately, I'd like to migrate our old iPlanet 4.1 webservers, but right now, even creating a plain vanilla instance on this server isn't working.
    Symptom #1 from error log:
failure ( 7563): Invalid configuration: Could not determine base pathname of the file
From what I understood in a previous post, this may be due to a permissions problem. The suggestion made was to try running the webserver as root, and if it works, that's the likely suspect.
When I try setting the webserver user to root, though, I get a different error message:
    Symptom #2:
security ( 7683): Temporary directory /tmp/https-mercury-test-310a6482 (specified by the TempDir magnus.conf directive) is not owned by the server user. This is a potential security hole. Please change TempDir or remove the directory and restart the server.
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Liz

It appears there was some problem during install/setup of your non-root web instance. To debug this issue, you can try running truss on the start script to find out what is causing the problem. Alternatively, if this is a test/lab setup, you may want to remove this and do a clean install one more time. I've had no problems running as non-root users so this should work for you.
    Thanks
    Manish

    2. I got the drivers [b][b][b]mysql-connector-java-3.0.8-stable-bin.jar and placed it in the <stdudio5>/lib/ext/ directory.
    3. And I successfully got through that one also, and in the database section it showed me the icon for connecting to mysql database. I gave the url, username, and password. It worked fine.
    4. Then I created the connection pool, JDBC resource, and Persistence manager for my server instance. It was also successful.
    5. When I built a cmp bean accessing the table in mySQL database, it is giving me these errors.
If you notice these error, it is asking for vendor type. But i don't have any option to choose the vendor type when i configured the database resources.
Can soem body suggest some other method and clear this error. I am struggling with this since a week.
    Thank you.

The AS7 error suggests that you have not set up the server startup classpath to include the driver jar. The steps to do this are included in the article mentioned in Chris's reply, namely:
    http://developers.sun.com/tools/javatools/tips/tip03-08-22.html
Note especially the part starting with Step 3 under the section "Enabling the JDBC Driver in the IDE."
